Jian, geboren en getogen in Beijing, is pas afgestudeerd politicoloog. Mingyue groeit op in een boeddhistisch klooster, omringd door tweeënzeventig monniken, ver van de bewoonde wereld. Ik heb tot bladzijde 247 gelezen, maar toen had ik er echt genoeg van. Ik hou niet van het verhaal, er gebeurt niet echt iets. Net zoals de steedse Jian, begon ik mij steeds meer te ergeren aan de wereldvreemde Mingyue. Ik ben niet zo geïnteresseerd in de Boeddhistische leer en zeker niet in de regels en ideeën van de kloostergemeenschap waarin Mingyue verblijft.
Dus ben ik maar gestopt in dit boek. Hopelijk is mijn volgende keuze beter en interessanter.

Het begon goed, een onverwachte start, even puzzelen hoe alles in elkaar stak en gniffelen met de soms koldereske beschrijvingen. Helaas de slapstickachtige taferelen bleven maar duren. Er zat geen vaart in het verhaal. Het slot gaf een nieuw elan maar ook deze hoofdstukken waren veel te lang uitgesponnen. Ik heb het toen opgegeven.....

Heldere Maan by Lulu Wang is a most wonderful, poetic and romantic book.
It is an astonishing introduction into Buddhism and an attempt to explore alternative and viable human relationships. I wish this work would be translated in English, so more people all over the world can enjoy this new outlook on life and relations.

Voor mij geen Lulu Wang meer. Alleen Het Lelietheater vond ik een mooi boek, maar mevrouw Wang ontwikkelt zich niet in een richting die mij boeit. Jammer.

I always love reading the books written by this author. Like her style of writing. Sometimes very straight and to the point, other times very colorful. But I always learn something from them and, as a matter of fact: I do not really care if the writing is according to reality. After all I'm reading a novel, product of the writers fantasy, not an encyclopedia. This time She took me on a journey to China with two faces: the modern city-face and the monastery-face. Two worlds that meet in two persons: Jian from the big city and Mingyue that grew up in the country side.
They differ a lot, but are attracted to one another. Their story grabbed me and I read the book with pleasure.

It was not worth reading this book. I really liked The Lily Theater, that's why I wanted to read this one as well. At the beginning I was curious on how the story would develop. Even though the style disappointed me I finished reading the book, only to discover in the end that it was not worth it.

I wish more of her work would be translated in English, so more people all over the world can enjoy her books.

Zo goed als ik het lelietheater vond, zo teleurstellend vond ik dit boek... veel te langdradig en esotherisch voor mij.
