I stayed up late to finish this because sleep is for the weak and this book is AMAZING. (Though, it’s from Jill Williamson. I’m not sure what else I expected.) It’s supposed to be a novella, so I’ll keep it short, but count me a rejuvenated fangirl.

The plot:

Like the rest of this series, there are several perspectives we follow through the course of the book. I didn’t expect to be surprised as often as I was. Several times, I was predicting one outcome and got one very different. There

The characters:

I’ll try to limit this to a few lines each. It may be difficult. *clears throat* Here we go.

Wilek: I’ve mentioned before that he reminds me of my favorite character from my favorite film of all time—Prince Hector. He still does. He messes up, but takes responsibility. He tries to do the right thing, but half the time gets screwed over by his father and brother (Janek, not Trevn). I just want him to be safe and happy and LIVE, DAMN IT.

Charlon: I was glad to see more moral dilemmas with her in this one, more conflict. The interactions between her and Zeroah were especially fascinating and I enjoyed that development. Zeroah has also begun to grow on me—probably because she’s grown a (small, but still existent) backbone. (YES!)

Trevn: Ah, my spunky summer child. It’s hard not to love him. The author has admitted he’s her favorite and I see why. Idealist, hardworking, romantic at heart…my sweet baby. Written believably with flaws to match his perfections, he is perfect because of it.

Kalenek: The storyline of a guard who can’t fight has intrigued me from the start. I feel bad about him and Onika just because I don’t see how it can end well, but the relationship between him and Wilek is a bromance for the centuries. Watching Kal juggle his duties as Wilek’s shield, Mielle and Amala’s guardian, and his feelings for Onika was a deeply engaging and truly helped me integrate emotionally with his character.

Mielle: She didn’t get as much page time as in previous installments, but she was still around enough for me to say her and Trevn are an OTP to die for.

Miscellaneous others: Janek and King Echad can die at any point and I won’t be sad. Janek had two sentences where I thought I might reconsider my assessment, but no. The same goes for Rodegoth and Mreegan. Seriously, it can’t happen fast enough. Ulrik is an idiot who needs to be slapped like the foolish child he is, Qoatch should find someone who appreciates his loyalty, and Inolah is awesome. I ship Hinck and Pia and that Tennish High Queen should take a chill pill. Or several. And someone slap Amala, too, because she’s also an idiot child.

In short, this series is amazing and you can download part 1 for free for all major eBooks. It’s awesome. I highly recommend you READ IT as well as the companion trilogy, the first of which is also free. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have downloaded part 5 and have a date with my Kindle.

The fourth episode of Jill Williamson's Kinsman Chronicles takes courtly intrigue to a whole new level. Actually, it takes it out to sea.

Following the cataclysmic events of the previous installment, we find an entire race of people living at sea, searching for a new home. It's like Battlestar Galactica with sailing ships.

Intrigue, betrayal, and giant sea serpents. What more could you want?

This book continues the epic saga of King's Folly - and nothing was lost! It was so fun reading about my favorite characters in such a different situation from King's Folly and the character development continued on a very consistent and satisfying arc. I loved the new developments between the realms, as well as the individual characters. I loved the characters when they faced such a grand disappointment, I loved the characters at their worst - and their best. So now I'm waxing on the definite poetic end of things... Oh well. So for pros in a nutshell: Great character development, great storyline, great plot variation, great imagery. Cons in a nutshell: I wasn't a fan of how the characters weren't communicating. I hate it when I know the answers and it seems like the characters don't because ya know... author interference. However, this wasn't really that big of a problem for me because the rest of it was SO GOOD!!! Anyway... That's about all for now, folks.

Finished Part 4 awhile back. Amazing like all the previous books. Can't wait to get the full bindup, King's Blood, in the mail so I can keep reading the story in a physical format. :D

I've read the first books in a row, and am waiting for the next two to come out.
Easy, entertaining read - but it drives me crazy that the books end with so many questions...

The journey has taken to the sea as the search for a new home to settle consumes the five nations. As the ocean raced in and covered their lands they were forced to strike out in search of new lands to settle. Will their common goal of finding new land bring the five nations together or cause them to war even more?

Rulers of the lands struggle to maintain hold of their fractured nations as the ships scour the sea. Trevn has to not only learn how to be a Captain, but also how to gain the respect of the crew, nothing is easy for them. Will their food last long enough to find a new land? Will the land be rich enough to sustain their multitudes? Will wars over the land kill them all?

Throughout all of their struggles Charlon and the Magonian Chieftess are waiting, biding their time until they can rise up and seize control of Armania. Will anyone stop them in time, or will their plot go unnoticed until it is too late?

This is a great continuation of Williamson's exciting new series. I'm really enjoying these books and can't wait to see what happens next. I have the next two installments pre-ordered, I just wish I could keep going now. :( Waiting is tough.

The characters are amazingly deep you will find yourself invested in them and their outcome, and the story is paced great and keeps you guessing. This was a really fun read and I can't wait for the next story!

A great series. Well worth the read. The characters are not one-sided, but are complex. It is interesting to see how the story is developing. Can't wait to read the next one.
