A Cowboy Christmas #2
Christmas on My Mind
The future looks merry and bright…
The little town of Branding Iron, Texas, keeps an annual tradition that makes the holidays especially festive—the Cowboys’ Christmas Ball. But Sheriff Ben Marsden, busy with work, joint custody of his son, and caring for his aging mother, has no plans to attend. Not until a pretty newcomer to his small town gets involved in the planning. Suddenly Ben finds himself wanting to keep a close eye on Jessica Ramsey, and not just because her relatives seem to be in jail more than out. He can tell the mysterious redhead has secrets in her past, but now that she’s bought a little fixer upper with her mom to start a bed and breakfast, the whole family’s turning over a new leaf. With the prospect of dancing and celebrating ahead, surely there’s time for everyone to unwind. Because this year, more than ever, Ben’s got Christmas—and loving—on his mind.

It's Christmas time in the little town of Branding Iron Texas and all the residents are preparing for the annual Cowboy's’ Christmas Ball.
Jessica Ramsey has no family left to call her own. She sets out to Branding Iron to find the woman who gave her up for adoption when she was just a baby. Finding herself stranded on the side of the road when her car breaks down, she is rescued by Branding Iron's very own Sheriff Ben Marsden.
"She pressed upward, feeling the heat that burned through their clothes, flowing between their bodies, molding them together. Her pulse surged, pouring desire through her veins. Heaven help her, she wanted him, in all the ways a woman could want a man."
Sheriff Ben Marsden takes notice of Jessica Ramsey right away. She's all big eyes and sweetness. Unfortunately Ben doesn't have time for romance. He's back home taking care of his ailing mother and trying to deal with his ex wife over custody of their 8 year old son.
Will a holiday filled with love, wishes and whispered prayers bring these two lovebirds together? Or will secrets and misunderstandings make this a heartbreaking Christmas for everyone...
So where do I start with this review...I enjoyed this one, but I didn't love it. The small town setting I loved. It felt festive and Christmasy. The secondary characters were interesting. Everything was just so sweet and angst free. I could best describe it like a marshmallow, super sweet, squishy, but without any real substance.
And there lies the problem as to why I didn't love this one. Major issues (alcoholism, child custody, attempted kidnapping) all get wrapped up in a easy no mess it's a "Christmas miracle" sort of way. There also isn't any sexy times in this book *Gasp* I know right?! Now I am a big girl and can read a book without sex if the couple have off the charts sexual chemistry, unfortunately that isn't the case in this book.

Ben should have been sex on a stick. Tall, dark, cowboy Sheriff with a smoky Texas drawl and a cowboy hat, yes please! Turns out Ben was about as exciting as cardboard. There wasn't an ounce of spark between him and Jess. With just a few passionate kisses between them, I found it more than a little hard to believe theses two were in love enough to be getting a HEA. Jess I enjoyed more. She had a big heart and her interactions with her mom and other town folks I found sweet.
Overall this one was enjoyable, if a little bit fluffy. I'm sure readers who enjoy a simple and smooth sailing holiday romance will be ALL over this one. If that's you, then I say "go for it."

This was a cute chick flicky book. A light hearted easy read.

I enjoyed this holiday romance that had some exciting action but other times it was kind of slow going as both hero and heroine dealt with all their problems that just kept getting worse and worse until snap, all fixed. Jess's car breaks down just as she is entering town, with lots of 'baggage', then sheriff Ben helps her out and he has issues of his own.

CHRISTMAS ON MY MIND is a slow burn contemporary story that I was pulled in to from the very first page. To be honest, I fell in love with the cover the minute I saw it. I knew I would read it anyway, because I love Janet Dailey, but the cover really pulled me in. I mean, a cowboy? What more could you want?🤗 I loved everything about this beautiful story and I’m excited to recommend it to my reading friends. Janet Dailey always has a way of grabbing her readers and she never lets us go.
CHRISTMAS ON MY MIND really takes a turn that will have you unable to put this beautiful story down. Neither Jessica or Ben are looking for a relationship, but they can’t seem to ignore their growing feelings. Janet Dailey writes some amazing, cowboy, all the feels stories! Jessica has many secrets and Ben is just what she needs! He just needs to convince her of that!💕. Janet Dailey has definitely earned my respect for her writing talent. Her books have been hard to put down. I highly recommend any of her books. Ben and Jess’s story was full of humility, revelations, & suspenseful action. It delivered a true special meaning of the spirit of family at Christmas.
CHRISTMAS ON MY MIND is filled with twists and turns and had me staying up way too late one night to finish! I had to know where Janet Dailey was taking us and what would happen to Ben and Jessica. I really loved how the whole community came to Jessica and Ben’s aid and only wanted them to feel loved and realize that they were home. Its a cute story. I did enjoy that the story had many details that made their time together seem longer. There is so much heart in Janet’s writing that I’m always left with a huge smile on my face and my heart very happy. All of the characters are very interesting and believable, so much so that I felt as if I’ve known them for a very long time. I love how Janet does that to me each and every time.

It's Christmas time in the small, rural town of Texas where love is in the air, second chances are given and families reunited. This is a light hearted, sweet romance coupled with the reconciliation a mother, in need of desperate help, and a daughter willing to do whatever it takes, despite the challenges.
Jess Ramsey is traveling from Kansas City to Branding Iron, Texas, to try and locate her birth mother who put her up for adoption. She also has a secret she hopes is never revealed. Her clunker of a car dies on the highway just miles from her destination leaving her stranded. Talk, dark and easy on the eyes, Sheriff Ben Marsden pulls up behind her car to lend a helping hand. When he finds out the reason she has come to his sleepy little town, he is the bearer of disturbing news. Jess' long, lost mother is behind bars and is a full fledged alcoholic.
Ben a divorcee, is the father of eight year old, Ethan, whom he adores and wants nothing more than to have custody of him. His ex-wife is as cold-hearted as they come. When he meets Jess, there is an instant attraction, but he knows she is hiding something and is determined to find out what it is.
An enjoyable romance sure to put you in the Christmas spirit!

A really good story centered around a young woman who was given up for adoption who is searching for her birth mother. Jessica Ramsey is looking not only for her birth mother but home as well. On her way to Branding Iron, Texas her car breaks down on the highway into town. The first person she encounters is Sheriff Ben Marsden. On the ride into town she explains she she is looking for her birth mother and as it turns out the sheriff knows exactly where she is and reveals that her mother (Francine) is currently in jail and that she has some serious issues. I really like this story of how a disfunctional family can become whole.

The first I’ve read from Janet Dailey in a long time, the attempts to remake a life and change its direction in a small town, with all that entails intrigued me. Capturing the sense of a small town, with all of the long-memories, childhood mistakes that follow you through your life, and the skeptical, if not without reason, expectations of change.
Jessica has arrived in Branding Iron with a purpose and a mission, buried in secrets and full of issues. Despite a rather inglorious entrance, she was intriguing: both for her look and story. Ben is the Sheriff: busy with work, battling his ex for custody and an aging mother that requires his attention, Jessica is little more than a distraction he doesn’t need.
The town of Branding Iron is full-on holiday mode with THE event of the year coming soon (the Cowboys’ Christmas Ball) and being new in town, Jessica joins in the festivities to plan it all.
Here’s where I ran into a major case of ‘okay – what will happen’, and the lack of depth in the plot with plenty of issues to grab on to (alcoholism, redirecting a life, the ongoing tension with Ben and his ex) left me wondering just when any of it would be prevalent in the plot.
And it never was. So, I expected the couple to blow me away – and they were convenient and not quite believable in a sense of the modern day. A not uncommon problem I’ve encountered with stories from authors who have been in the game for a long time…
The story was enjoyable despite the lack of actual tension or resolution that did not resolve in a flurry of candycanes and gingerbread men with a dose of miracle thrown in for good measure. Fans of Dailey are sure to find this book right up their alley, and it’s a candy-floss, non-demanding getaway story that is easy to put down and pick up again later. I just wanted more believable substance overall.
I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

"His eyes reminded her of homemade root beer, just poured, with the bubbles still sparkling."
Car trouble in the middle of the road is where it begin for Jessica Ramsey and Sheriff Ben Marsden. Money she inherited from her adoptive father will help the heroine start a new life. But why did she choose Branding Iron, Texas, of all the places, to make plan to start a Bed & Breakfast ? To meet her birth mother is the answer. But if you think the woman who gave her life is the one who's gonna have the biggest suprise, think again. Their first meeting certainly happen in an unusual place but the connection between the two women is immediate. If only fixing a house for her future business was Jessica's only challenge to come...
We see what an extraordinary and caring person Jessica is when she take care of her fickle mother and because she have absolutely no resentment despite the fact her life with her adoptive parents wasn't that great either. Ben is a good guy too. He moved back in the family house to help his mother after a bad fall. Divorced and not seeing his eight-year-old son as often as he would like because his ex is making things difficult for him didn't make Ben lose his optimism. He's smart enough to feel Jess is hiding something so he take his time with her. But when he finally realize his feelings for her are pretty serious, there's no going back.
Christmas On My Mind is the story of a second chance for a daughter and a mother, and a charming romance between two person who deserve the best. I probably read more Christmas stories this year than all the others. There's something just so comforting about it :)

Whenever you read a story by Ms Dailey, you know that it will be thoughtful, heartwarming, with interesting characters as well as having a good plot and romance. That doesn’t mean that obstacles don’t have to be overcome, but that you will have a great story in your hands.
In this one, we have Sheriff Ben Marsden, a respected sheriff, divorced, living with his mother due to her fragile health. He has a son whom he shares custody with his ex-wife. The other main character is Jessica Ramsey. She has come to Branding Iron looking for her birth mother as well as hoping to make a new life in Branding Iron. She is in for a surprise when she meets her mother.
Nothing is simple for these two, very much how life truly is , thus making the story and the characters very real. At the end , trust, love, compassion and understanding prevail in this Christmas story that will leave you feeling the spirit of Christmas.

A wonderful holiday story taking us to Branding Iron, Tx. Sheriff Ben Marsden has his hands full. Working hard to protect the town, worrying about his son and what his ex is up to, helping out his ailing mother. Doesn't leave much time for a personal life but the newcomer to town tempts him beyond measure and has him yearning for things he had long ago given up on. Jess Ramsey comes to town looking for her biological mother. Growing up she didn't have the best of lives but now she's all alone so she's hoping to get to know the woman who gave her life. The woman she finds may not be exactly what she was hoping for but she wouldn't give up on her. Plus, staying in Branding Iron is looking pretty good as she spends more and more time with the sexy Sheriff.
Loved this small town holiday romance and I would definitely recommend it!

Evidently this was Ms. Dailey's last romance book; I was disappointed, though. It was too predictable.

A book about the long arm of the law, a chance meeting, reformation of characters, Texas, and Christmas thrown in! Surprisingly better than I thought - actually quite touching.
January 1, 2026
Cute, cozy holiday romance with very little spark. The plot was predictable and the characters lacked depth. I liked both Jess and Ben but didn’t really feel them or the love that I was told was budding between them. Jess’ mom was quirky but way too selfish to believe the townsfolk would care much about her.
The side stories involving Ben’s hideous ex and Jessica’s evil ex felt contrived and were far too easily resolved. I knew what was going to happen after the first few chapters, I just kept reading to finish the book.
More substance next time, please.

Wow if you are looking for a solid, homey, feel-good Christmas romance, you need to read this!
Following Jess Ramsey she is clearly running from something right into tiny town Branding Iron, Texas where she immediately meets the cute sheriff/cowboy Ben and they take a liking to eachother. Jess meets her birth mother here, the town drunk, and Ben’s mother where she is staying since Branding Iron doesn’t have an inn.
Taking what little money she has left, Jess takes in two fixer uppers, a little house with great B&B potential, and her mother. With the help of Ben and the town, she starts to let her guard down, build up the B&B, steer her mother straight, and prepare for the town Christmas ball!
Just in time however, some secrets from her past come out and Jess’s and her future isn’t safe anymore.
My six word review:
Some people are fixer-uppers too!
Overall, this was a really enjoyable read! I throughly enjoyed the character development of Ben and his son, and everyone just had a great backstory and felt so real. I did think the end felt a little rushed, where everything just BAM worked out perfect and that threw me off a bit. However overall it’s just so adorable and heartwarming! For a romance it’s a slow burn with no big fire, just a few hot kisses! Pretty PG-13 at most!
I give this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars!

It took me a little while to get into this one, but it was worth the wait. The main characters are engaging. Both Ben and Jess are hard working, giving people. Both also have had rough patches in the past that not only make them leery but present challenges in their present ad well.
I couldn't help cheering for Jess at each small milestone. Sam can't resist the feisty independent newcomer either
Life's thrown and continues to challenge both if them. They choose to rise to meet each one.
I fell a little in love with Ethan and Clara too! He's as adorable as Francine is flamboyant and obnoxious. Who hasn't dreamed of a fab mom like Clara? Even Francine grows on ya. She has a way of drivin ya yo the brink then steppin up at just the right time with invaluable help or genius ideas. Sam and Ethan are such a great pair. How could you not fall for the caring kid and his yummy protective daddy?!

Christmas on My Mind by Janet Dailey
She's just arrived in town, hot on the lead to find her mother who had given her up when she was born.
Francine is in jail for another for being drunk and fighting. Jess will be housed at the sheriffs mothers house til they sort things out.
Ben Marsden knows everybody and likes helping out Francine.
Story follows Jess and the relationship she builds with her mother and story also follows Ben. There is an attraction between the two...
Looks like a predictable story line but it's anything but. Lots of twists and turns and secret pasts that come to the forefront and then more action.
Excerpt from another of the author's stories is included.
I received this book from The Kensington Books in exchange for my honest review

A delightful Christmas romance..
Jessica finds herself broke down on the side of the road contemplating her life. Seemed like her past , especially with men, was nothing but bad news!
Sheriff Ben Marsden comes to Jess’ rescue and helps her arrive at her destination in Branding Iron ,Texas. Just in time for the annual Cowboys Christmas Ball, Ben and Jessica find their lives intertwining and soon Ben wants to keep her close. Ben is battling his own problems with fighting for custody of his son and caring for his mother . Jess provides her own shroud of mystery with secrets of her own. A Christmas romance is in the works in this quaint holiday story! A great read!

Christmas Miracles Do Happen
The characters in this story are spectacular. They grab the reader's heart from the first few pages. The plot involves enough tension to make the reader nervous while unfolding in a heart warming way. It is suitable for young adults as well as mature reader's.

It was a well written story you get pulled in from the start. You are drawn to each character, as if you are friends. Everyone has struggles in life it is really how you handle them that counts. Another great read by Janet Dailey.

Typical Janet Dailey
I have been a fan of Janet Dailey for years. As usual, this book didn't disappoint me. It had its own special romance mixed with a bit of intrigue in a small town setting. The characters were well defined.

This is a really cute love story. the main character is looking for her birth mom and finds her in jail, meets the sheriff in a really small town and decides to take on the problems and open a bed and breakfast.

This second book in the series is just as good as the first and maybe even better. The characters from the first book have small roles in this book and that is always fun. I enjoy these "happy ever ever" books by Janet Dailey, which are well written and interesting.

Great book
Loved the story, nice characters (mostly) and from the descriptions, wonderful country side. I appreciate the fact that alcoholism is addressed along with other problems we face in today's world. Clean, romantic scenes are a plus.

Another loving story of life and loves in Branding Iron. Jess comes to Branding Iron looking for her natural mother. Jess stays on and love develops between the Sheriff and Jess. Nicely laid out and good flow of story.
