A great book helping the entrepreneurs remember that success isn't owning your own company, but it is the freedom that it offers if we're able to manage the company correctly.

My non-fiction review for audiobookreviewer.com: The competitive Business and Investing audiobook category contains book giants like Think and Grow Rich, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and Rich Dad / Poor Dad. While the content in these books is timeless, ultimately the conversation with the authors of these books one way from audiobook to listener. Kelly Roach, a business growth strategist, recorded Unstoppable: 9 Principles for Unlimited Success in Business & Life opening a clear two-way communication stream between listener and author. The book, part biographical, part prescriptive nonfiction/educational, provides a tangible narrative followed by practical advice for the entrepreneur.
While there is a clear commercial bent to it, there is valuable and foundational wisdom for the businessperson. The author makes clear her drive comes from the principle that “wealth and success without freedom and fulfillment is poverty” and that “happiness comes from progress.” The sentiment echoes the timeless wisdom of Dostoevsky who said, “Deprived of meaningful work, men and women lose their reason for existence.”
The stories and instruction follow the entrepreneurial American dream, to leave the corporate world and provide for family and future through an entrepreneurial venture that aligns with a person’s values and mission. There is a clear marketing aspect to the book, but it is not subversive, rather it is an open and lucid model of how one must articulate one’s value in the crowded and competitive business world. The book has three facets that take advantage of the audiobook medium as a marketing tool.
First, the major thread of the book is a story of someone who achieved traditional wealth and success and found herself dissatisfied. As with many professions, like becoming a physician or attorney, the practice and day-to-day falls far short of the original promise or television celebrity of the career. When someone has worked an entire life for a goal, how does one recover, regroup, and reinvent themselves? The author provides practical instruction as to how others might do it.
Second, much of the book is in the second person liberally using you, your, and yours. In other genres, this second person use often fails as a reader loses their suspension of disbelief as the observer or hero of the story. However, in a book with educational lessons from a business coach, the direct conversation creates connection and impetus.
Third, there is an effective use of beginning each major section with a narrative and explanatory and instructive follow-up. This is what marks the business genre, approachable stories that provide a foundation for a greater point. This models the “stories sell and facts tell” maxim.
The work is authentic, encouraging, and worth a listen.

Kelly Roach is both narrator and author with the apt and enthusiastic voice of and experienced mentor. The narrator’s intonation and energy fits both the story and purpose. Much as Stephen King narrates his On Writing in a no-nonsense Maine accent, the mid-Atlantic author provides a blend of the authoritative, host/commentator, and enthusiastic. Tanner Gers provides an intro and outro that shows the clear and lucid baritone of an experienced podcaster and presenter.
