Whales and Tails is a cozy mystery series set on Madrona Island, a fictional island within the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington State. As a fourth generation islander Caitlin Hart is struggling to make her way as the economy and culture of the island evolves toward a tourism based industry. Cait lives in a cabin on her aunt's oceanfront estate where she helps her aunt run Harthaven Cat Sanctuary. When she isn't working with the cats, she helps best friend Tara, operate the coffee bar/bookstore/cat lounge they own, named Coffee Cat Books.
In the 7th book in the series, Cait finds a cat locked in the confessional at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church, which leads to the discovery of a body locked in the trunk of a car. Cody is dealing with a life changing decision of his own, and Finn has multiple crimes to deal with, so Cait enlists Tara's help to track down a killer.
Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home. Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

On the beautiful island of Madrona, Cait Hart and her best friend, Tara, own and operate Coffee Cat Books. Cait is also active in community affairs and often finds herself involved in local turmoil. Her boyfriend, Cody; Aunt Maggie; sister, Siobhan; Tara; and police chief, Finn; are all used to Cait's amatuer sleuthing efforts. When Cait goes to return a cat she found locked in the church confessional, she's shocked to find its owner murdered. Fortunately, Cait knows the perfect little girl who will love the cat, Sydney, and provide it a forever home. Fun, intriguing, and full of surprises as Cait and her friends follow the trail to the killer with the aid of two tabby cats!
The author provided me with a complimentary ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.
I love the cohesion of Kathi's stories and characters. They flow together so well that I feel like I'm reading one book. In A Tale of Two Tabbies we revisit some of my favorite characters and are introduced to a few new ones. Kathi takes you on an emotional rollercoaster that is well worth the ride.
Another fantastic book by Kathi Daley. I've loved every book in this series, and A Tale of Two Tabbies was no exception. Mystery, murder and cats with a touch of magic about them, all add up to a fun, cozy delight. Clean, sweet and just a super good read. Highly recommended.

Review:
When Cait finds a cat locked in a confessional at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, she knows something is amiss. The cat belongs to a member of the church and although the cat is there, the owner is nowhere to be found. When Cait and her boyfriend, Cody, take the cat to return to the owner, they find the owner’s home has been vandalized and no sign of the owner. When they are located, they are found in the trunk of their car, murdered. Cait and Cody have another murder to solve. But that is not the only mystery to surround them. Cody has been acting weird lately and Cait does not know what the problem is. Cait’s Aunt Maggie keeps taking clandestine trips and will not share any information with Cait or her sister, Siobhan. Cait feels like she needs to find answers to the mysteries so that her life can settle back down.
The characters are well rounded and well developed. It was nice getting to visit with all of them again and learn what has been happening in their lives. The author is very talented in creating a setting that is warm, welcoming and feels like home. It is always a joy visiting the places that this author creates.
The mystery is well plotted and I like the fact that past mistakes play a part in present day happenings. And I enjoy reading about the cats that appear in Cait’s life whenever she has a mystery to solve. I think it is clever how they are able to help Cait in her sleuthing. I also enjoy the mystical magical feelings to this series.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. If you enjoy cat cozies, this is a must read. I would suggest reading the books in order but that is not a must. What is a must is reading this book and the others in the series.
Loved this book. When Cait finds a cat shut in the confessional, Cait and Cody deliver her home which leads to bigger problems. When they begin to investigate they find there are many layers to be uncovered with many secrets coming to light. I love the characters in this series, Ms. Daley writes characters that you want sit down with and join, which you do in this series, you can put yourself there easily. The mystery was excellent, I wasn't sure who did it and found out the same time that Cait did. I will definitely continue on with this series.
During a break from choir practice, Cait finds a reddish orange cat locked in one of the confessional booths that is quickly identified as Sydney, Theresa Lively's cat. But when she and her boyfriend, Cody, go to her house to return the cat, they find the house empty but apparently vandalised. After contacting their police officer friend, Finn, they learn that Theresa's body has been found locked in the trunk of her car. With the help of Sydney and another cat, Lucie, Caitlin moves forward with the investigation...an investigation that may prove to have a disturbing personal connection. Can she solve this murder or should she leave things alone? And what is going on with Cody and why does he want to have a conversation with her...is he breaking up with her? I enjoy this series and the various island residents, as well as the adorable cats that appear in each story. I look forward to the next book in this series to learn more about the continuing relationships between Caitlin, her family, Cody, and her friends. Disclosure: I was gifted a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
In the latest book in The Whales and Tales cozy series, A Tale of Two Tabbies Madrona Island is awaiting Spring. Spring always brings about new beginnings but unfortunately one member of the island will not see its appearance. While Cait and Cody are at choir practice they find Theresa's cat Sydney locked in a confessional and Theresa nowhere to be found. Odd thing because she is the pianist so after practice Cait and Cody go over to Theresa's house to check on her and bring Sydney back. To there shock they find the house in disarray and no Theresa! They then get Finn involved and he finds Theresa at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church parking lot in the trunk of her car dead. People aren't always as they seem and some secrets may need to stay buried or people will pay the ultimate price. There are a lot of twists and turns and emotions in this book. The residents on Madrona Island are having hard decisions to make that will affect everyone. Will Cait and her sleuthing get her into trouble or worse the next victim? Keep your hats on because Spring is coming in like a lion!!!
This is my favorite book in the series so far. We learn many secrets that have been hidden for years--secrets that were shared only in the privacy of the church confessional in most cases. We also learn that Cait and Cody's relationship may be facing serious changes. All of these things are playing out as Cait and her amateur sleuthing team attempt to help local law enforcement solve a murder case--with the help of a couple of cats, of course!
As usual, the characters and the plot are well-defined and well-written. There are twists, turns and red herrings throughout the story to keep you guessing until the moment of the final reveal. If you haven't read this series, then what better time to start than NOW. :)

A Tale of Two Tabbies ( Whales and Tails Mystery - Book 7 ) By Kathi Daley
A Tale of Two Tabbies is the seventh book in Whales and Tails Mystery series. I really enjoy these cozy mystery stories by Kathi Daley. She does not disappoint me . She had me hooked right from the start and did not let go till the end. Yes there is two Tabbies in this story. Is one to help Cait with her investigating to find a killer ? Cait finds a cat locked in the confessional at Saint Patricks Catholic Church. This is just the start of a very good cozy mystery that keeps you guessing till the end. Join Cait as she is involved in trying to find a killer. There is also some very good looking recipes in the back .
This book is CATtastic! I give it 5 paws! As with Kathi Daley's other books, this one too has a lot of heart and warmth to it. It's not just a mystery, it also has a sweet romance. I loved the side story about Miranda and Sydney, the cat. It will really melt your heart. The main character, Cait, is very likable and so are her friends. They remind me of the Nancy Drew crew, snooping all over town. I also enjoyed the coffee bar/cat lounge, such a cool concept. This is the first book that I have read in the Whales and Tails series, and I will be reading the rest! You must read this book, especially if you love cats! I received this book for free from the author in a blog giveaway.
Never thought Kathi Daley could write a series to top Zoe Donovan, A Tale of Two Tabbies has just proved to me that Whales and Tails has become my favorite. As always the characters engaging and you feel like you know them and in this book new things are happening which could really be fun as the dynamics change within the Hart family. Also the story line in this book is one that has what I call a nice puzzle with a few twists. Blackmail, murder, missing persons and few clues to lead you to the solution it's a fun time on the island.
The latest book in Kathi Daley's Whales and Tails mysteries is my favorite...so far. Caitlyn Hart and her friend/business partner, Tara are busy with their coffee bar and cat sanctuary and when island resident Teresa Lively's body is discovered and her cat locked up in the confessional. Through her sleuthing, Cait leans Teresa was blackmailing several people living on the island. Even Caitlyn's personal life seems to be slightly stressful. An enjoyable read and will keep you guessing right up to the end!
Finding a fellow parishioner's cat locked into the confessional at St. Patrick's Catholic Church leads Cait and her friends into another intriguing murder investigation. Finding the cat is followed by finding his owner's body in the trunk of her car. Cait's investigation unearths the woman's blackmail business with unfavorable implications for several island residents, including Cait's beloved Aunt Maggie. A compelling read with many twists and turns makes this another wonderful entry in this cozy series.
A Whale of Two Tabbies is an excellent book and I didn't want it to end. I love how cats show up to help solve the mystery in these books. It was hard to figure out who the murderer was as there were so many people to choose from. If you want a great cozy read, pick up this book!!!
Kindle Unlimited liked it but didn't love it hence 4 stars. Wasn't anything stupid such as typos or anything like that, just didn't love this.

A good cozy mystery laced with romance, plus some cats to make me smile, is a hard to beat combination.
Finding Theresa Lively’s cat in a church confessional starts off the mystery. Where is Theresa? Does a mysterious list of initials and numbers mean anything? When the cat is found and they cannot find Theresa, Cait and her fiancé, Cody, decide that they need to call in Finn, who is the resident deputy of Madrona Island.
After Theresa’s body is found, Cait and her friends start trying to determine who would have a motive to kill her. Their efforts lead to finding various possible clues, but even some of the clues themselves need to be unraveled before they make sense.
On the romantic side, something has come up in Cody’s life that makes Cait worried that it could put a strain on their relationship. Although he promises her it will not, she still fears that their future together could be in jeopardy.
The author does an excellent job in leading the reader down the various paths of the investigation. All seem plausible until they are proven wrong. However, clues are there that this person is indeed responsible.
This book is part of Kathi Daley’s Whales and Tales Cozy Mystery Series, but each book in the series can easily be read as a standalone.
When Cait finds a cat locked in the confessional, she knows something is amiss. She attempts to return the cat to the owner and makes a gruesome discovery. Now she has a murder to solve. Cait also notices something is up with Cody as well as Aunt Maggie. What is up with these two? This is a great book full of mystery, with twists and turns to keep you captivated throughout. I love Kathi Daley's books, and this one was another winner!
I am still enjoying this series immensely! They are quick clean reads with such interesting characters. I had no clue in this one as to who did it; the guilty party really caught me off guard. I highly recommend this author and this series! I also find the location of this series interesting since I am a Southern girl. I had to look up the location and it looks so beautiful!
There are cats and then there are cats! In this book they do everything from helping find clues to performing therapy. WHile the cats are doing their thing, Caitlin and her friends are trying to decipher the clues they found. It is an interesting book mixed with love and intrigue. I honestly had no idea who the killer was and that is saying something. Good on ya, Kathi!!!
Still enjoy the setting and the main characters of this series, but the plot in this one seemed truly unrealistic and far-fetched, both how the blackmail happened and the new man in life of Cait's Mom. The setting is still lovely and enjoy the scenes in the bookstore and around the island. For a small island, this is certainly not one to live on, given the amount of murders that occur on it.
I love these cozy mysteries on Madronna Island. I love the story filled with suspense, twists and turns with a cast of engaging characters. This book is recommended for those who love mysteries.
These stories are always interesting and fun to read. If you enjoy a cozy mystery you can just curl up on the couch and enjoy this is it. No bad language. Like the stories of all the clever cats.
I have read many of the stories in this series but decided to start at the beginning and read them all in order. It is taking time to do this but enjoyable. The bad part is I am missing any new books written by this wonderful writer.
Another murder to solve. Another cat helper to work with. Who bugged the confessional? Who are the people being blackmailed and why? Will Cody be sent to Florida? What is going on with Maggie? Good book. Enjoyable to read.
Caitlan finds Sydney, a previously adopted cat, in the church confessional. While looking for the owner, she finds chaos. This book has several twists and turns as the mystery unwinds.
