Dr. Jack Graham is the pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church, one of the nation's largest, most dynamic congregations.

When Dr. Graham came to Prestonwood in 1989, the 8,000-member congregation responded enthusiastically to his straightforward message and powerful preaching style. He challenged the Prestonwood family with a vision for a larger outreach, and in 1999, the church moved from its North Dallas location to a new 7,500-seat auditorium in west Plano.

Thriving with more than 33,000 members, Prestonwood continues to grow with seven weekend worship services, four midweek services, about 300 Bible Fellowship classes for all ages, and multiple outreach and community ministries that reach thousands. In 2006, the church added a second location, the North Campus, in a burgeoning area 20 miles north of Plano. And in 2011, Prestonwood returned to its roots--beginning its third location, the Dallas Campus, about two from miles from its original location.

Dr. Graham has served two terms as president of the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest American Protestant denomination, with 16 million members and as president of the SBC Pastor's Conference.

He is a noted author of numerous books, including You Can Make a Difference, Lessons from the Heart, A Hope and a Future, Life According to Jesus, Are you Fit for Life?, Powering Up and Unseen. Dr. Graham's passionate, biblical teaching is also seen and heard across the country and throughout the world on PowerPoint Ministries. Through broadcasts, online sermons and e-mail messages, he addresses relevant, everyday issues that are prevalent in our culture and that strike a chord with audiences worldwide.

Dr. Graham was ordained to the Gospel ministry in 1970, and has a master of divinity degree with honors and a doctor of ministry degree in Church and Proclamation from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

`Angels` is a Christian living book written by author Jack Graham. The tagline reads, `Who are they, What do they do, and Why it Matters`. The author's position is that angel's are all around us, we only need eyes to see and hearts eager to receive their assistance. In order to write this book Jack used The Holy Bible as his reference.

I found it interesting that the angels will administer the final judgement. Page 41 says, `They will be the ones separating those who know Christ and those who do not.`

Angels don't know what it is like to be forgiven, angels don't have a plan for Salvation, and they don't understand grace. Their decision either to follow or forsake God was a one time and permanent event. With that said, this book is more about Jesus than angels. Angels are very powerful but must never be worshiped (pg# 60). They are here to minister, protect, and comfort us.

There have been many times in my life when I knew an angel was ministering to me. I could feel the power of the comforting angels at those times.

If the reader enjoyed this book you may also enjoy James McDonald's book Always True.

I found this book a bit preachy, maybe because it was written by a pastor.

I expected detailed information and personalized accounts about angels. Instead, this book is more of a Biblical study on the purpose of angels. Familiar stories, such as Old Testament's Jacob wrestling with the angel, were featured. I didn't feel particularly moved nor did I feel the examples were complete enough to warrant a book. Fresh accounts and/or expert analysis was missing.

Pages: 211; Publication Date: 2016; Not part of my book collection.

Sermons in print

This is easy reading that looks like it started life as a sermon series. Don't expect too much profound theology or in depth study of angels. The theme gives a platform for a devotional book using Biblical references to angels as the starting point for various loosely related themes.

Angels from the Realm of Glory

What I like about this book from Jack Graham is the mixture of scripture and modern life examples that bring life and credibility to this whole subject of Angels. Not that we should ever class scripture as anything less but so often has been. I have to say I'm a big fan of Sheila Walsh and her music so a added bonus for me to here some of her testimony but which it was in less stressful times for her. Back to the review and the personal mixture with the historical that gives a wonderful blend of the relevance of this subject of Angels (that causes such confusion to many) but here is a wonderful easy to follow book that does indeed makes sense of this subject. i do highly recommended this book how could in not.

I think the author was correct in that he hesitated to write a book exclusively about angels. A worthy topic but one that has already been covered (quite well I may add) in Billy Graham's book years ago plus he devoted some time to angels in his "Unseen" book previously. This still is a good resource for the references to angels in the Bible and what their purpose was and how they accomplished it here on earth. I found the book more in tune with how to live the Christian life and see it to a successful end, certainly a worthy topic but somewhat unrelated to the topic of angels in my opinion.

We used this book with our church life group in conjunction with four of Graham's sermons on angels. It included a lot of good information concerning angels and how they serve as examples and models to our worship of God. There were a few times that I felt he was stretching it to make it tie in with angels, but it was a good resource when our group had discussion.

Was hoping for a strong Theological discussion. Instead it was light on Scripture teaching but full of sports analogies and stories from Pastor Graham's life and ministry. Not bad, just not what I expected.

I love angels. They're are the most directed connections with God. I always speak to my guardian angel Andrew for my necessities. My idea is that God is too busy sometimes for hearing from us and he needs these messengers that I call the postmen of God.

Once I have had the privilege of seen one of these creatures. I was in a very sad phase of my existence, it was morning and my day was to starting. I looked in a corner of my bedroom and appeared this vision. A golden kid. A kid I couldn't precisely tell the age of. Although he was smiling, these eyes impressively profound had seen a lot of world and had a profundity for that age that couldn't be so young, but much more old.
He was looking at me and he was smiling of a tender and warm smile. He was sat, and with an arm he was holding up his head. His ears were extremely long and thin. He had a round face, beautiful eyes and hair. He was completely golden.

Later I thought: now I will watched somewhere else because the angel will remain. But no....The angel disappeared. Some golden sparkles appeared as for saying me that He left and then nothing else.

I have angels in every corners of the house, in my bedroom, in the kitchen, in the corridor. My favorite angel is Clarence from the movie by Frank Capra because he is human and very often we meet as also tells the author in Angels a lot of Human Angels as well.

Said that, I requested with enthusiasm the book written by Reverend Jack Graham Angels published by Bethany House this past June 21st through NetGalley.

It was summer-time and unfortunately I couldn't read it at that time.It wasn't still time.

I did it these past days and I was truly shocked for the beauty of this book. I am catholic and I read every Sunday at the mass so I know the scriptures. It was an enchanting experience.

More than a book about angels, and trust me it is a book about angels, it's also the story of our Christianity thanks to many important, fundamental Bible passages, daily life anecdotes of the author or people he met during his life.

Angels are connected with God but we mustn't never forget that WE must live our existence, not our angels. We can't ask to them the impossible.
There are specific roles, says the author, that can't be played by those celestial creatures.

I was impressed while I was reading the book about the religiosity of this pastor. Reverend Jack Graham discovered God and Jesus since his early childhood because his parents very religious and enthusiastic. Then once, close to their Arkansas' village afforded a pastor in a tent for a week and the vision of Jesus exploded in the mind of little Jack vividly and it hasn't never abandoned him.

The Bible passages for discovering the power of Angels? The encounter between Saint Mary and Archangel Saint Gabriel announcing her the arrival of Jesus Christ, while she was the promising spouse of Joseph.

Then the story of Abram ready to sacrifice his son for God, a sacrifice unwanted by God, who tasted the religiosity of Abram, then the story of Hagar...

The book wants to focus also on our actual condition.

We rush. Always, and everywhere. We rush when we are at home, we rush to the office, we rush when we return home, we rush for going to the cinema.
We rush while we pray.

We have a lot of fears: the fear of losing our job, the fear of losing our health, the fear of dying, the fear of terrorism the fear of living.
But insists the author, in Jesus, and God we can find a firm and proper answer.

Angels will always watch over us.
Not only: reverend Graham is more than sure that each of us has a guardian angel and wagons of angels watching over us.

Reverend Graham gives us also some suggestions for living better.
An old saying: "Show me your friends and I will show you your future" is one of them." Like also: "Walk with the wise and become wise." (From the Proverbs.)

And if you want to search for angels: "Hang out with lightness, you'll get brighter."

Graham tells that the three quarters of angels have chosen God and not Lucifer, the other ones became fallen angels, and that the Golden Army close to God, is experiencing an existence of Light close to the Creator.

A lot of anecdotes while you will read the book you will see, will involve also the sphere of darkness, so Lucifer, and the mundane temptations.

At the end of the book the author remembers that sometimes we need some hope. A special section with precious advice directly from the Bible.

A great reading. I suggest the book to everyone and in particular to all that people, Angel lovers who wants to discover the most important passages in the Bible and New Testament where these creatures play a big role. The book is also tremendously inspiring for living a good and christian life.

Surely a gift very appreciated for this Christmas.

Pastor Jack Graham has written a great book here about angels and their divine inspiration and mission in guiding and protecting those who love and follow God. The overall focus of the book, however, is centered on Jesus Christ. We have a loving Heavenly Father who is for us every step of the way and whose angels are with us as we go. Angels respond to the will of God and faithfully point us toward Christ. Angels were present at every critical moment in Jesus' life, and angels are present to guide and protect those who love and serve God today.

I have been a big fan of Pastor Graham for the past several years. I enjoy his podcasts, full sermons, and of course his books. If you've ever listened to him preach you know that he powerfully and boldly preaches the Word of God. He is very straightforward and sticks to the Bible. This comes through in his writing as well. I read an article today from The Gospel Coalition by Jared C. Wilson that stated "Sometimes gifted preachers are gifted writers and sometimes gifted writers are gifted preachers, but more often than not, guys gifted to preach aren’t necessarily gifted to write (and vice versa)." Jack Graham is definitely a gifted preacher and writer.

This book begins with an excellent heartfelt foreword by Roma Downey (of Touched by an Angel fame). Roma reminds us that if we have a solid faith in God that we will see His divine activity all around us. Although the Bible says very little about angels, this book is saturated with scripture that, as mentioned earlier, serves to point us toward Christ. In his last book "Unseen", Jack Graham devoted one chapter to angels. In this book he lays out fifteen key aspects of Christ's sufficiency made manifest by angelic dealings in the biblical account. He also gives depictions of what Heaven will be like, as told in the scriptures. Pastor Graham includes commentary and quotes from noted pastors and biblical scholars. Personal stories are also included where people have experienced angelic intervention or presence. One thing I found intriguing is the use of several different translations of the Bible throughout the book. The majority of scriptural quotations come from the ESV, but he also utilizes The Message, The Amplified Bible, The Living Bible, KJV, NKJV, NASB, and NLT. I see nothing wrong with this, rather I believe certain translations can make the content more illustrative or relevant to today's society. I wanted to include this point so that other readers would be aware of it.

If you believe in God, and you believe that the Bible is His infallible and inerrant Word, then you believe in angels. Pastor Graham points out the ABCs of divine protection in this book: "For those who have placed their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, protection is Available, protection is Beneficial, and protection is Constant." That, brothers and sisters, is a comforting thought. I would recommend this book to all Christians, young and old. May it serve as a reminder of the divine presence that encompasses us all as we live each day for Christ. I received this as a free ARC from Bethany House Publishers on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a book about angels unlike any I've read before. Rather than merely facts about angels, although there are some, Graham has provided readers with spiritual concepts and practical lessons for life from biblical stories about angels.

From Isaiah's account of angels giving God glory, crying, “Holy, holy, holy,” we learn the importance of holiness and what it means to us. He includes an acronym for holy with four points to help us on our own journey of holiness. From the story of Jacob and the stairway to heaven we find that angels constantly live in the presence of God. “...[Angels] have determined that the only way to live out their true purpose is to obey God and accomplish his purposes. They have made it their sole aim in life to connect the glory of heaven with the realities of planet earth.” Graham includes practical ways for us to know the will of God and do it too. Other lessons include the coming judgment, angels as an example of spiritual fervor, how to combat temptation, that we are never alone, that God equips us for what He asks us to do, and a few more.

I appreciate that, in general, Graham does not speculate. He sticks to Scripture in describing what angels can and cannot do. He does tell some great stories about himself and contemporary people and their encounters with angels.

My only hesitancy with the book is Graham's use of Psalm 91 when writing about our guardian angels and our protection. While he tells some wonderful stories of angels protecting believers from harm, I couldn't help but think of cases where believers have been tortured and martyred. I still have plenty of questions about the promises in Psalm 91 and the reality of Christians being persecuted today.

I found the exploration of angels and their choices very interesting. Angels have (had) free will. We know this because some rebelled. The ones remaining in God's presence remain perfectly obedient to His will, Graham writes. “The evidence of angelic free will we find in God's Word shows up at their creation, but never again after that.” This is the first I've read about this “one time” free will for angels and I am still trying to think it through.

This book would be a good resource for a pastor or teacher preparing for a series on angels. It's good for all Christians as Graham is very personable in his writing. It is an encouragement to be made aware of all that angels do in our lives and what that means for our own spiritual walk.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher for the purpose of an independent and honest review.

About the Book:

Leading Baptist Pastor Teaches the Truth about Angels
Myths about angels are everywhere. Do we become angels when we die? Are angels always hovering nearby, on guard to protect us from danger? Can we talk to them? Many of our ideas about angels come from the media, which is more interested in ratings and ticket sales than truth. As Christians it's important to understand what angels "really" are.
Pastor Jack Graham walks readers through Scripture, revealing the truth about angels and their roles as worshipers of the Lord, witnesses to his glory, and warriors fighting on his behalf. Focusing on practical application, Dr. Graham separates fact from fiction, encouraging you to become a better worshiper, warrior, and witness.
Includes end-of-chapter questions. A small-group curriculum DVD will also be available.

My Review:

Angels are a very popular idea, thought, spirit, or person. You see items everywhere that are either models of angels or discuss them in some way. Jack Graham tackles this very controversial notion and backs it with scripture so that we all become a little more away of these marvelous creatures and so that we know what they are really all about.

There are four parts to the book. Part One: The Wisdom of Angels as you Start the Journey, Part Two: The Protection of Angels as You Sustain Life's Blows, Part Three: The Encouragement of Angels as You Soar on Eagles' Wings, Part Four: The Presence of Angels as You Stay the Course With Christ.

The author provides stories from others as well as scripture to back up the thoughts and facts of these marvelous creatures. They are truly Heaven sent.

Angels have always fascinated me, as a child they were something that comforted me.

My adopted mom took me to church nearly every Sunday, I would listen to the message the pastor delivered, go to Sunday School every time. I would here about angels in various parts of the bible, and would always want to know more about them. I was hungry for more knowledge but, no one could explain them to me.
Psalm 91:11 ESV,

For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.

The book is set up into four distinct parts. Part one is about the wisdom of angels. Part two talks about the protection of angels. Part Three is the encoragement of angels. Part four is the presence of angels. I really enjoyed the breakdown of the book because it packs lots of information in.

Ultimately, Jack Graham takes on a topic that at its core is very controversial, then backs it with scripture. He provides evidence to back up the facts, opinions, and ideas that he expresses in this book. This book isn't just an opinion piece, there is weight behind it.

This book is perfect for anyone that is looking to learn more about angels. Anyone who is looking for resources, including pastors or teachers. I hope you will check it out.

Angels : Who They Are, What They Do, and Why It Matters by Jack Graham is an interesting book on the topic of Angels. I always loved the TV show - Touched By An Angel starring Roma Downey, which showed guardian angels always helping people. Roma Downey writes a beautiful forward to this book as well.

The author uses scripture as well as true life stories to explain Angels and who they are and what their purpose is in this book. Broken up in four parts,
1. The Wisdom of Angels as You Start the Journey
2. The Protection of Angels as You Sustain Life's Blows
3. The Encouragement of Angels as You Soar on Eagle's Wings
4. The Presence of Angels as You Stay the Course With Christ

No we shouldn't idolize them, but LEARN from them. As they watch over us, protect us, and teach us to worship God! I loved this book and highly recommend it to others who also would like to learn more about Angels.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I am a member of Prestonwood from January 2020, where Dr. Graham is pastor. However, I owned this book prior to joining.

After the release of his prior book, Unseen, Dr. Graham was encouraged to write a book about the topic of angels from a Biblical standpoint, given the numerous falsehoods about them in secular media. However, he didn't want to do so for three reasons: 1) he consider the topic to be "fringe", 2) he had never preached a sermon on the topic (most of his books are based on prior sermon series), and 3) he believed he covered the topic to the extent possible in Unseen. But meeting with a couple who were friends of his, he was encouraged by the wife (who was battling cancer, and who would pass away while the book was in the final stages) to do so.

This is a good book on the topic, helping Christians understand what the Bible says about angels as opposed to the misconceptions.

This book starts with Roma Downey ( actress of Touched by an Angel tv show and also producer and actress of The Bible mini-series).
Jack Graham does a wonderful job with this book and helps the reader understand why Angels are here. God created angels to watch over us, protect us, and teach us how great God is. There is many wonderful bible verses in this book and wanted me to dig into my bible deeper. I also loved how he did little things like…HOLY – H-Harness Your Thought Life, O- Obey Christ, L- Love God With All Your Heart, Mind, Soul, and Strength, Y-Yield Your Life Completely To Him. I learned so much from this book. I am looking forward to the DVD when it comes out in the future.

This book is more than it appears.
Often times when you see a book on angels it really focuses on angels, perhaps too much. But Jack is up front that this book is different. It really is focused on Jesus and the Father and how they use angels.
I absolutely loved this book. It flowed with truth and gave me a better understanding of how God uses angels to minister to us. Every time I picked this book up I walked away with a sense of God’s great love for us.
Jack also used a lot of personal stories and other people’s stories through out and I always engage with that.
Overall, a great book that I highly recommend.

If you've ever wondered about why angels are so revered in today's media but rarely mentioned in The Bible, Jack Graham has the answer for you in this book. It's not about how we humans should idolize them, but how God created them to watch over us, protect us, and teach us how great God is. Graham points out via many, many bible verses and recounts of how angels exist and what their purpose is- which the main purpose is to glorify God. As Graham states in his book, his publisher stated to him "it's about time [for a book on angels]..." Love this book, it answers a whole lot of questions I've been asking for a long time.

Pastor Jack Graham tells us what angels do and who they are. Angels are always worshipping the Almighty and are only obedient to Him. I think this is the most important lesson I learned from this book. When there is an angel involved, it is always because God sent the angel. Graham teaches us more about angels by using references to angels from the Bible and stories about encounters with angels. This is a great book if you want to learn more about angels.

Angels by Jack Graham is an excellent book for people who want to get a biblical view of angels. I could tell that Graham did his research on biblical accounts of angels. I liked how he applied it to our lives and how we relate to God. He didn't just take angels out of the context of a relationship with God. I also liked how he included day to day examples of how knowing different things about angels would and should affect our lives.
