ARC graciously provided by Netgalley in exchange for a honest review

i loved the writing and the Mystery, it was great, just a little confusing when you start reading a new chapter , because you don't know who's point of view is that, and the novel had too many characters ! Stella’s relationships never worked out , after losing her job (as editor of the website and newsletter of a small non-profit that fought to protect B.C.’s salmon) and her house too she had eventually to move out from vancouver to Syron Lake « small town in USA » "Moving to Syron Lake felt like the best decision I’d ever made. Little did I know how quickly all my expectations would be turned upside down." i I enjoyed Stella she is a great character ! the story is a bit long but still a good read :D

Run Girl Run by Alex C. Franklin is a fast paced political thriller. It begins in Monte Carlo, Monaco with the death of a rich tycoon who was a co-founder of a large uranium mining company. Several individuals including the FBI and the Sec. of State of the United States believe it was murder and begin to investigate. Meanwhile, the main character, Stella Jacobs, moves to Syron Lake, to start a new life as a romance novel writer and await the return of her former boyfriend. Her plans could not be more wrong. Syron Lake is the location of the former uranium mine named Syron Lake Resources. Stella inadvertently stumbles on a breech in the radioactive waste containment pond that spills into Syron Lake. Since she was a former activist, she wants to find out the extent of the spill and to hold the company responsible for the clean up. What she doesn’t realize is how deep the corruption and political intrigue is and the people involved who have a stake in the mine. Not knowing whom to trust and trusting the wrong person, she soon finds herself running for her life. As all the twists and turns take place you find yourself further drawn into the story and on a wild wide. Franklin has written a well-researched and exciting novel. Although it was a little slow and confusing at first with the introduction of multiple characters it soon picks up. The characters were multidimensional not always showing their true nature until further into the story line. From the second half of the book you can’t stop reading and the twists at the end come as a surprise. The mixture of governmental policy, mixing with big business, environmental issues and corporate greed are well done and realistic. I particularly like the strong female characters that develop through the book. For a first novel, Franklin has written a great novel and I look forward to reading her future books

5 Stars. This is excellent debut full, length novel with an interesting, intricate mystery, which takes you from one end of the world to the other. When you start a new chapter, it was a little confusing, because the author tend to use pronouns and you weren’t quite sure whose point of view you were reading. There were a lot of characters, which made it harder to figure out who was telling the story. The Author Alex C. Franklin did a lot of research on the politics and environmental issues, along with police procedurals, assassins and everything else. At times it was a little hard to understand for me, just because I didn’t know all about some issues or procedures, so I had to do some checking on my own. However, a little over half way through, I was being so drawn in, that I didn’t want to put the book down and enjoying it more and more.

Stella Jacob is an environmental activist, living a quiet life in Canada; she witnesses a spill of radioactive waste. She wants the company responsible to be held accountable, and then everything takes a turn for the worse. An American in Monaco is killed, an FBI director is suspected of foul play along with the US Secretary of State.

This is an international thriller that will keep you guessing, on the edge of your seat, and bring out emotions that you never thought you’d display by reading this enjoyable book!

3.5 stars. Not a bad read. I thought the main character was a little naive, but I guess it was needed for the plot to work. I haven't read too many books set in Canada, but I wouldn't have known if they didn't mention it as it was pretty generic and could have been set anywhere. Likewise, the main character. The only clue that she was a person of colour was that she was originally from Trinidad. I liked that.

This was a good book that took you from one end of the world to another. It all has to do with a uranium mine in Canada which was to be turned over to the government to be responsible for in the future when cleanup would be needed. A man who dies in Monaco in what looks like an accident and this mine can't have anything to do with each other, or can it? A breach is made in the pond of uranium which was not from natural causes, then people start to die in the area and on and on. There are many governments involved and what will happen to end this endless process? Read to find out.

Calling this book "a thriller" may be a bit much. It was interesting, but never really drew me in. I found it a bit disjointed. And really, Stella -- you love this guy? According to the book you didn't spend much time with him before reaching that conclusion. I found that part really unbelievable. On the plus side, the look into the dark side of politics was interesting, if disturbing. An okay book, but nothing remarkable.

Pretty good story about political corruption. Not much running until the last half of the book. Takes place mostly in Canada. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the copy.
