Jacky Donovan

Jacky Donovan might not have nine lives, but she does have a few. Bored with being a 'Stepford' housewife in Southampton, Jacky packed her bags and headed to London then Gran Canaria over a decade ago. She's now an established memoir author and, more importantly, curious about heroic pets. Her latest books, "Simon Ships Out" and "Smoky" -- the memoirs of the world's first celebrity cat and dog respectively -- are Amazon No.1 bestsellers, whilst her erotic and humorous personal memoir, "Instant Whips and Dream Toppings", is a whip-crackingly captivating bestseller for adults.

In between her writing she has recently trekked to see Mount Everest; tandem jumped from a tiny plane; been on Canarian TV due to her crazy long fingernails; run a lesbian dining club; escaped from a yoga holiday in a dinghy; and regularly does charity work for Breast Cancer and Gay Pride. She currently spends her time between backpacking the world and her home in Gran Canaria.

I was given a free pre-publication copy of this book for an honest opinion. I tested it out on my six year old grandson. We read the book together as a bedtime story and he loved it. He loved that there were pictures with every page of writing-his words were "It's VERY colourful" and he was smiling from ear to ear. I read it to him but he could read quite a few sentences and he started joining in too so he was quite happy with that. He was particularly amused by one new expression he hadn't heard before which was in the book. As it's not the way he would describe it I wondered about this but he thought it was great and he had many chuckles about it! In fact, rather than it needing another term so not to repeat-he was really pleased when the word popped up again and he could have another laugh at it. He has kept saying it around the house too! I told my partner about the book and he said-oh that's why he's kept saying this then! When we had finished the book-without prompting/asking what he thought-he said "It's ACTUALLY quite goooooooooooood!" which is praise indeed from him. He gave the book 10/10 and 5 stars out of 5 stars. It definitely passes his test! I really like the illustrations and the overall presentation too. The author has done a great job, this is a very good children's book.
