Sometimes even the simplest gesture, the tiniest nod, can set off a wave of unexpected anarchy. Just when Shawnee begins to settle into the comfort of her growing family, she comes face to face with the worst kind of darkness. Unstoppable, primordial, and undying, Ileana's vengeance aims to dismantle everything that Shawnee has worked so hard to build. With blood on her hands and indebted to an ancient evil, Shawnee finds herself a pawn in a game she never intended to play.
Max grew up just outside of New York City, spending most of her formative years outdoors creating wild ghost hunts with neighborhood kids, setting booby-traps to capture unwitting family members, and building clubhouses on top of ten-foot walls. Max wrote her first story at the age of twelve and titled it Circles of Friendship. Through the years, Max has written several short-stories and poems, all of which met the wrath of the “Not Good Enough” monster and ended in fiery demise.
Max regained her confidence when she began writing scholarly articles and research theses on her first trip through graduate school. It took several years for her to break the habit of the formal writing that marred her creativity. An additional Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing was Max’s biggest support in this. Max writes primarily sci-fi/fantasy, paranormal romance, and Young Adult stories.
I think that's it for the series right? I really enjoyed the journey! This last book in my opinion was the one with the best story, really well written. I was a bit miffed at first that the worst moment of the other book came back to haunt us, just as I was getting over it, but eventually I did got over it and enjoyed the process with them. Finally the moment I've been waiting for since the first book, it was clear since then that Shawnee needed both of them together, I'm just sad that it took so long to happen, but it was a great scene. Quite the ride overall, thank you Max Ellendale/1
Exciting, loved it. Here we get to experience more of Shawnee's strength not only with her bond mates but with her pack and allies. I like how Shawnee and Xee have become closer through their silly antics and their mutual love of family. I love Vanessa's character, she is strong yet meek, she is out spoken (when she speaks) yet shy and not even Mal's love and mate bond with Shawnee can beat the fierce Love and devotion this Cat has for her mate. Hope to read more real soon, especially about the new kit.
Before May 23rd, I’d never read a book by this author, and now I’ve read five books. One of which, the first one, was lesbian fiction. The rest were part of a shifter fantasy series that included LGBT people, and a dynamic I do not think I’ve actually read before – a three person relationship involving two women and one man, with one of the two women being the ‘core member’ (since she’s the one the other woman, and the man, wish to be with, not with each other). A poly relationship. Though I do not think that specific word was used.
There was a good bunch of action, thrills, chills, etc. in this book. One specific problem, and I’m not really sure if the problem was one that developed because I read all four of these books too close together (not one after the other, but still in a short period of time), or if the dynamic that I noticed would have still been there regardless. The talking too much dynamic.
There was a ton of talking talking talking going on in this story. Heck, the lead character, Shawnee, is in the process of being kidnapped – and she’s talking her head off while walking along with her kidnapper; chattering as she is grappling with various people here or there in captivity, etc. etc. Both internal and external talking. I mean, the point of view character literally hears voices (has from first book), so it’s not like there wouldn’t be a lot of talking going on. It just . . . got very irritating to me as the book progressed. Just how much talking was going on. Mind – there were some great scenes here or there, actually the story line itself was pretty solid, it’s just was too filled with talking talking talking talking…
Well, I think that’s basically what I wanted to mention about this book. Solid enough storyline, marred by too much talking.
Actions and decisions made can have more of an impact that expected, and that certainly is the case here, with vampires being the focal point for this volume, and ancient vampire seeking dues for the death of one of her own. But that is not the only consequence of their actions, with other surprises in store as well.
This is definitely the best of the books in the main series, but it wouldn't be what it is without everything that has followed before. Shawnee has her bonds with both Mal and Vanessa, but even still there is much growth and a lot to be learned for them all. It is, after all, more than just about the vampire's game. It is good to see Shawnee heal more, and her relationship with her mates develop and get stronger. And really, see all of the growth for all of the characters.
At the time of writing (7 years since publication) the final book in the main series, and the one which Wolf's Consort takes place in, but it's not too hard to guess what the teased 5th book will be about, and I look forward to reading that when it comes out as well.
It's an enjoyable series with its moments, with Shawnee working through her trauma and healing, along with the roller-coaster of actions and drama that seems to surround her. And by the time you reach this book, you'll already know what to expect.
Alright. 4 books in and still clamoring for more. I don't have a clue how to not leave spoilers for this book because so much happens and sooooo many loose strings are all tied up! I wanna know more about two-spirited family-ness! Hahaha- I am seriously crossing my eyes, fingers, toes that there's one more book. I'm scared bc there's no cliffhanger... just a HEA but... this author can cook up plot from nothing so I'll continue to hope:) Amazing series. I will read them again and again. Just a beautiful story with everything from horror, to love, to romance to name it... A to Z!
It really was hard to put the book down and go to bed. I wanted to know what happened next! The bonds between Shawnee, Vanessa, and Mal continue to strengthen. The mother/daughter relationship of Ana and Shawnee matures as we learn more secrets from the past. Also, an exciting addition to the family! I can’t wait for the next book.
What's better than werewolves, vampires, and sexy weretigers? Nothing at all. Strong story with a believable ending I also like the way it wasnt all neatly tied together because life isnt like that. Looking forward to more in this series.
