The human world is as confusing as ever for our canine hero. He can't understand why Trixie is getting bigger and bigger, and Rex is getting more grumpy. Then Trixie comes home with another small human! And nobody seems keen on our hero getting very close to him. But he soon finds consolation with the rather attractive lady dog next door who goes through a rather similar transformation to Trixie! A rambunctious dog's eye view of the chaos a small baby brings to the house.

"Howler" was as great as "Rover"! Michael Rosen's clever story is told by a dog (we don't know his name) and his pets: Rover (the girl), Cindy (the mom) and Rex (the dad). But this time, something is changing because Cindy is getting bigger!
I love the way he writes the possible side of a dog when a new child is born! ❤

Book written from the dogs point of view. Nice story showing how the family dog might be feeling in new situations such as a new baby and how the humans shouldn’t forget about the dog. Good to read with children who have a pet.

Howler is such a cute and funny book. I love that it is written from the perspective of the family dog. The pictures are fun because they look as if they were drawn by the dog with crayon or colored pencil. They aren't super elaborate. The dog adds his own little comments on the pictures themselves too. There are also some different framing techniques used throughout the book. Some pages are full bleed whereas some are framed which adds diversity to the book. It is a fun read and it is a great book about adding a new baby to the family.

Howler is a great book for children and parents who are expecting a new baby in the house. This book is written in the perspective of the family pet dog and reveals the feelings of being left out by the family due to the arrival of a new baby.
This a fantastic story that children can relate to and parents can help children understand that the arrival of a new baby does not make them less important.
It is also quite a good way to introduce reproduction to young children in KS1.
Over all a lovely read for young children and parents!

Written from a great perspective- the family dog. The family ar preparing for the arrival of a new baby. Of course the dog thinks the new cot is a new bed for him, and tries to lay claim. The new baby is noisy, so he calls it Howler. He is jealous because noone pays attention to him any more, only Howler. Howler takes over the house as babies normally do.

I can't wait to read this one to my kids, they will love the illustrations of the dog. I love the whole twist on reality that the dog gives the story. Who is Howler? Great read for children expecting to have a baby brother or sister soon.
