A gay friends to lovers romance novella of 32,000 words.
I’m Aaron. I’ve got a crush the size of Europe on Joe, who lives across the street, and when he’s around, I transform into a prize idiot.
The rest of the time I’m a trainee plumber, following my father and brothers into the construction industry. On Sundays, I transform into a player in the amateur football league. In all, a confident, well-adjusted guy. For a 20-year-old virgin who lives with his parents and falls apart over the boy not-quite next door.
Joe’s cute, sexy and fun. I know he’s fun because we used to play together as kids in the massive posh house that he lives in with his parents, the doctors. Now he’s at university, studying literature; we don’t see each other anymore.
How do I ask a guy for a date when I can’t string together a coherent sentence when he’s around, and I don’t even know if he’s gay?
And what’s more, no one knows I’m gay.
This is a feel-good romance about two young men who are crazy about each other and do lots of kissing, hand holding and taking their clothes off.

Aaron a 20 year old closet virgin and trainee plumber / weekend amateur football player. Aaron have a secret crush on his across the street old time friend Joe Blacwell son of the "doctors"and a English Lit student. They drifted apart when Aaron discovered he was gay and had a crush on Joe so the easy way was to drift apart and let things be.
If only Aaron knew Joe was just as gay ...
After years apart Murphy plays his part in getting these two old friend back in the same orbit. One thing leads to another and soon they discover both are gay and have an attraction to each other.
Aaron soon discover in order to keep Joe he needs to face the music and jump out of the closet....
I have to be honest this was not my normal kind of read I kind of like my characters a bit older. This was a typical but oh so sweet story of young love and I can't wait to see how these two guys mature into amazing men. They have so much heart and soul.
This was a sweet coming of age story. Aaron and Joe were childhood friends who lived across the street from each other. As they grew, life took them in different directions - Joe to university and Aaron into the family business to become a plumbers apprentice.
Aaron has been in love with Joe for forever. He turns into a complete idiot every time he sees him. This is why he stopped seeing Joe years ago. But now he wants to ask him out. The problem? No one knows Aaron is gay. Not his parents or the rest of his family, not his work mates, not his football league, not his friends and certainly not Joe. So how does a 20 year old virgin who lives with his parents, and falls apart over the boy from across the street, ask that guy for a date when he can't string together a coherent sentence when he's around? You'll have to read the book to find out! ;-)
Aaron is a 20 year old football playing plumbers apprentice who has been hiding the fact that he is gay for quite some time. From afar, he’s been secretly crushing on his old (but now distant) friend Joe for years. Aaron and Joe live across the street from one another and finally, after years of waiting, watching and wanting, Aaron finds an (awkward) opportunity to reconnect with Joe.
It doesn’t take long for Aaron and Joe to confide their feelings for each other and begin a relationship together. Unfortunately, Aaron struggles with keeping his first relationship a secret from his family, especially considering that Joe himself is out and proud to his own family and friends and doesn’t want to feel like Aaron’s dirty little secret.
There was minimal angst, mostly dealing with Aaron’s worries about coming out to his family. The story was mostly full of sweet and tender moments, and largely focused on Aaron’s first sexual experiences with the lovely Joe.
I had a few niggles with the writing, which took me out of the story a few times. There were a handful of errors with punctuation and grammar. A couple of times full-stops were absent at the end of paragraphs, which seemed like a glaringly obvious mistake to overlook. There was even a character named Sean whose name interchanged between Sean and Shawn on a couple of occasions. In truth, it all just needs another edit for the problems to be fixed and for my issues to be non-issues.
I enjoyed this enough to eagerly seek out the sequel, so that’s a plus!
Nice little novella. A coming out story with lots of kissing and full of sweetness. A bit short so I can't wait to read what happened with the guys next.
Aaron has known he's gay since puberty but has never come out to anyone. He's also secretly crushed on his neighbour, Joe, for all of that time. Aaron and Joe start a relationship after bumping into each other and discovering that each other are gay.
The friendship and banter between these two was the highlight of the book, I certainly had a case of the chuckles while reading this. I loved Aaron's enthusiasm with everything to do with Joe :-D.
There was lots of sensual exploritory sex which was well written and pretty hot, as well as fumbling virgin moments.
There were a few minor editing issues, with names being switched or a 'he' instead of and 'I', but nothing that distracted from the story progression. The characters were fun and engaging and the story was well written. I guess this is a 3 star and not 4 because I felt it dragged a bit for me, not much other than Aaron's sexual awakening happened for most of the story. I think that is more a personal taste issue because I can struggle with YA at times.
If your after a nice fluffy YA book about two gay boys discovering each other and falling in love, this would definitely do the job :-) Especially for such a good price!

This is a very simple story about first love between two friends living just streets aparts. Even though Aaron and Joe had known each other for years, they didn't realized they were attracted to each other. They both assumed the other one was straight. Everything changed when one day they met not once, but thrice and finally Aaron got courage to ask Joe out (or should I rather say in, since they stayed in house?). It is quite predictable that from this point we can observe things between boys getting physical and the affection between them growing.
It is not very original, but it would be almost impossible to create a story about young, (more than a little bit) immature love that has not been told before. Both MCs are quite annoying - especially Aaron with his overthinking and everything being "the best moment in his life" and I am really sorry but everything here was just a lil bit "plastic", unreal. I didn't feel anything while reading :(
There are two absolutely great moments: lampost that was the reason for Aaron and Joe talking again and Rob. OMG, Rob! Isn't he just great?
Aaron is a 20-year old man, apprenticing as a plumber, who has lived across the street from his friend Joe for years. He’s been attracted to Joe for almost as long but has never voiced those feelings to anyone, let alone Joe. Not to his family, not to his football teammates, not to the people he works with.
For the past couple of years, Aaron hasn’t spent time with Joe, mostly due to the pursuit of their different careers taking them into different worlds and Aaron’s fearful growing attraction to Joe. But a chance encounter with Joe and a light pole on their street starts something that Aaron didn’t have the courage to do back when they were teenagers. Aaron finally understands what he has been missing and he can’t get enough of Joe.
The people in Aaron’s life quickly notice the difference and assume that Aaron is spending time with a woman, which Aaron unfortunately doesn’t correct. Conflict later comes because of Aaron’s reluctance and fears to acknowledge their relationship.
I found myself really liking Aaron. His funny, self-depreciating internal comments had me laughing out loud, especially in the first half of the book. He has good heart, even though the blue-collar norms that he lives with causes him to make a few mistakes and stumbles along the way. I connected more to Aaron because of the first person POV, but I still enjoyed Joe as well. There were a few times that I didn’t quite understand Joe’s motivation for some small reactions, but that’s to be expected, not being able to hear his thoughts.
Overall I enjoyed the writing, especially the turn of phrases in the first half of the book that leant well to conveying Aaron’s thoughts and feelings. There was some exposition in the middle of the story that took me away from the action and emotions of a couple of scenes, making it lag a little for me. There was a time or two in the latter part of the book that I would have liked a little more understanding of Aaron’s emotions to make a better segue between his thoughts and actions.
However, that still didn’t take away from my enjoyment of these two. I definitely want to read the next installment of Aaron and Joe’s story.

My kinda story—very sweet, very sexy with an endearing voice telling the story of a first love. No big issues, crazy drama or truckloads of angst and I was smiling throughout the entire thing, hence 5 stars from me. I'd definitely pick up another NA story from the author.
I love that the book was written from a teen/early adult's perspective. The storyline was decent. What cracked me up the most was Aaron's description of Rob! Hahah way more original than a brick house. Considering Aaron is 20 I feel like he could get away with the level of immaturity that was there. Overall this book would be recommended for anyone whom is into boy-love, boy-meets-world kind of stories. I wouldn't mind reading the next book, easy and fast read.
This is a sweet story of two neighbors discovering the other is gay and attempting a relationship together. Aaron is a virgin and in the closet. Joe is a bit more experienced but still very sweet.
The writing is fairly plain and a little too much “tell and not show” but I enjoyed these characters and thought their story was very sweet.
Aaron lives across the street from joe, they've lived across from each other since they were little. The used to hang out and be friends, but not in a while. Joe doesn't know that Aaron is gay and has had a massive crush on him for ages and every time he's around him he's awkward and hilarious. However, Aaron isn't out to anyone, not his parents or his friends or anyone at work. I can't imagine coming out would be easy in a job with a bunch of manly men like a plumber.... I can see why he never came out before, and he really hasn't had to, he's been single and never dated. Aaron's inner dialogue through this whole thing is so cute, it had me laughing out loud several times, he's quirky and cute, I liked him.
Joe, already out with his family and friends is comfortable with his sexuality and finds Aaron's awkwardness cute. This story is from Aaron's POV but it's not hard to guess where Joe's at and see things from his POV as well....When agreeing to hang out turns into making out that turns into dating, I kinda figured Joe would get tired of being a secret, or not secret per se but, people not knowing about Aaron....Getting caught out together and Aaron puts his foot in his mouth again it causes some hurt feelings and a silent treatment.
I got where Joe was coming from but I was kind of upset at him at first, I felt like he should have been more supportive of Aarion, coming out is a personal journey that one has to take themselves, however.... he totally redeems himself as the supportive boyfriend and he's actually very sweet and accepting of everything that goes on between them. They were very cute together and I enjoyed reading how they started, I'll be looking forward to the next one!!!
Streets Apart is the first book I’ve read by H. J. Perry. I found it to be an enjoyable read with lots of HOT scenes. Aaron and Joe are both young adults and have been neighbors for years. They played together as children but they have grown apart. Aaron has known that he is gay for several years but he hasn’t come out to anyone yet. He’s had a huge crush on Joe for a few years and this is part of the reason he’s let their friendship drift apart. Aaron doesn’t know that Joe is gay, too. A chance meeting sets things in motion for the two of them to get together.
The author is English so there are some terms and references throughout the story that I’m not familiar with but this didn’t diminish my enjoyment of the story one bit. Every time that “football” was mentioned I had to remind myself that they were talking about what we American’s call soccer. This wasn’t a bad thing I only mention it because I had to smile to myself as I read and tell my brain to understand football as soccer.
While I might not be familiar with all of the terms (some I suspect were slang) I was able to get the gist of what the author was trying to get across. There were funny moments in the book, too, as Aaron (a virgin) found his way while he and Joe explored their budding relationship. This book has a happy for now (HFN) but the author’s website indicates that there will be another book in this series and I look forward to reading it.
Ah, to be young and in love (*^^)^*) This was a very sweet story. Reading from Aaron's POV how he's been crushing on his friend and neighbor for years. And from afar. Just from across the street really but it could've been the other end of the world... He's funny, it's cheery and awkward and all sorts of fun inside his head. He's trying to figure himself out, trying to grow up a little but his mind won't make that easy. He's adorable ^^ His crush, Joe, he's all the way where Aaron wants to get. More comfortable with who he is. And even if he doesn't realize it, he's making things easier for Aaron being the way he is. Not everything's blue skies and birds singing and clouds made of cotton candy for Aaron and Joe but close enough. Aaron will be the man he wants to be for Joe before the end.
Short, cute love story with lots of sexy Brit flavoured kisses \(^▽^)/

Aaron has had a crush on the boy across the street, Joe for a couple of years. They used to play together as children, but school and jobs have gotten in the way. A chance encounter makes Aaron face his crush head on.
This was a great read. The premise is good, and it's well written. It was quick and easy to read, and it flowed well. Aaron's character was very well developed. Joe's character could use some more development, but since this is just the first installment, I'm hoping for further development in book two. The characters had a great chemistry and connection. They are both likable and I'm looking forward to seeing where the next installment leads them.
This was a delightful, sexy and enjoyable read. Highly recommended!
This is a very simple story of Aaron and Joe. Aaron is an apprentice plumber and Joe is a uni student hoping to be an English teacher. They live across the street from each other with their respective parents. They used to hang out as younger teens but have not in a while. They reconnect and start dating. Joe is out but Aaron has never told anyone he is gay before. That leads to some minor issues. Pretty much the rest of the book is Aaron's family, friends, and coworkers finding out he is gay in one way or another. Nothing overly interesting but quite sweet with some lovely expressions.
Unfortunately it was seriously marred by endless repetition. It was like every chapter had to retell us facts we had read already. Sometimes several times over. I honestly think the book would be 10-20% shorter if all of the repeated bits were removed.

Very sweet and cute story about Aaron 20 years old he who is an plumber who has been in love with Joe his across the road who friend who they have been friend since teen but just recently they connect again. Once They find out they are attracted to each other they spend time. Just two guys get to know each other. No real drama expect Aaron is not out. Will they two get past all that and what will the future bring. Cant wait to read more.
A nice story about a boy and his crush on a friend. I liked the way the relationship developed between Aaron and his crush, Joe. The relationship was sweet, their story humorous and realistic (to me, anyway). This is a HFN story, but quite satisfying, nonetheless. Looking forward to reading more about the lads and more from the author. D.
I thought Joe and Aaron made a great couple, loved their age, and the crush they had on each other. Aaron treated Joe with such care and gentleness. Aaron had some issues with coming out but Joe never lost faith in him. Thank you.
This book was really adorable! I found Aaron and Joe to be so damn cute! Some of the steamy scenes were a tad bit too much for me to handle, but otherwise, I really wanted more!
It was a good story, just wish it ended better. To me it ended in the middle of the story. I understand there is going to be another book to this story.... just saying. At least it did not end in a cliffhanger. lol
Eh... honestly a 1.5 star rounded up only because I didn't hate it. I didn't really like it either and was unpleasantly surprised at the end to realize that this is NOT a whole story. It is a Serial not a series. I won't be continuing on with this serial. And I sadly won't recommend it.
Quite a sweet little story. Two boys living on the same street with two very different experiences of coming out. A nice light hearted read to entertain you for a couple of hours.
I disliked this short novel but feel that with re-writing and better editing it could be a good read.
I see no need for books to be rendered into American English especially when it is done so badly. The writing was clunky and sometimes almost incomprehensibly wordy. It read at times as if it was badly translated from another language.
The sex scenes were just awful, turning what should have been sweet first time experiences into something that sounded like low-grade porn.Less can be more: a graphic scene then has more impact.
There was, at the core of this,a set of good ideas: Joe and Aaron live opposite, are from different backgrounds. One is a university student, the other a plumber's apprentice and, aged twenty, they fancy the pants off each other. How will they get together and how will it work out?
If the rest of this series/serial is similarly written, I will not be tempted to buy.
Sweet coming out story! Aaron has had the hot for his old friend and neighbor Joe. Older now, they reconnect and much more than that. Aaron is not out yet so he has his moments, and Joe is not to be played with. In a world full of straight men, and homophobics Aaron has to find his way. Joe is the sweetest and Aaron falls hard for him. I liked that it brings in some characters from skyhigh scaffolders series. Sean and Simon are lovely brothers! I don’t know if this is the start of another series but it should be.
