There was a part of me that suspected the twist at the end, and I like how it's revealed. And since this is a Valentine's Day issue, we get some dialogue between Batman and Catwoman and between Jim and his wife to fit the theme.
If last issue was new years, we are jumping to a very happy valentine's day! But in actuality our story starts in the early week of January as the Maroni brothers sit arguing in a cell...only to be bailed out by the Viti family. Uh oh, the Viti family blames the falcone family for the deaths of the current leader, Lucia Viti, mother and brother. That places the Maronis right in the middle of the Vitis and the Falcones. Hahahaha, that just smells of trouble. But now it's February...and batman has been shot. As he continues to refuse any help, especially from the police force, Batman decided to go try and protect who he believed to be the next target. He was right, and the target thought so too, which is why the cop was at the ready in military fatigues and armed with a sniper rifle to take out his would be killer. But as Batman once broke the man's ribs...this was the perfect moment to take a few shots at Batman first. This also provided the perfect distraction for killer. With Batman weak and down, and the cop focused on him, it didn't take much to come from above and slip a noose around his neck. When batman finally woke up, Gordon and a few cops were standing over him as the body hung above with a hangman's game sprawled on a picture of Gilda Dent. This time the game reveals the phrase "Guilty as Sin." And Gordon couldn't be more disappointed that Batman didn't work with him on this.
Over the last few weeks Catwoman has been doing her own investigation trying to find Carmine's missing body, this has lead her to a stall in the Marlin Cafe where riddler is attempting to cower and hide from her, lol. So, where do you hide a dead body. Answer: you hide him in plain sight. The riddler lead catwoman to the city morgue, right before she could checkout a John Doe...she was attacked! Only to wake up inside a sealed coffin making it's way down a conveyor to an incinerator. How many deaths does Gotham deal with that they need this big a crematorium?! On second thought...this makes perfect sense. Luckily batman was able to get the same info from riddler and swoop in, break her out, and carry her to safety before her death. Falcone's body in not in the morgue if it ever was there. When we talk about the biggest fumbles of all time, this will certainly make the list. After surviving near death the two spoke on the roof, where Selina asked bluntly what she is to him? Ally, competition, criminal, a stupid damsel in distress? With this being valentine's day she is ready to drop everything, literally, no secrets between them off with the masks and only have each other...Batman only wants to know her relationship to Falcone. She leaves him standing up there.
Speaking of Falcone, Sofia now knows her brother Alberto has completely lost it. He brought her by the manor to propose that father is still alive. But Sofia does not care in the slightest what voices his crazed mind believes he is hearing, she saw their father die. But Alberto still maintains that maybe she saw what he wanted her to see. Bruce Wayne popped by Selina's house the next day...only to find a moving van and the boss holding a letter he was instructed to give Bruce in case he decided to finally show up. He has left Selina alone on too many Holidays and now she has left, they are through and she does not want to be found. Once again...Bruce is completely alone. But hey this is still Valentine's day after all, and just because Batman AND Bruce are completely alone, doesn't mean our other characters have to be. Jim got a bit of a scare when he came home to find his door open, only to realize, luckily at the right time, that Barbara is there with their son waiting for him. And of course Porter couldn't help but have one of her shadowy getaways with her mysterious lover at the Hotel Essex. The business comes up as usual, as she talks through the team Gordon has put together, and how they should pose no threat to none other than Harvey Dent!! OMG!! I did NOT see that coming. I 100% thought she was with Mario...but DENT?! NO ONE TELL GILDA!
