I love that in this fairy tale the selfish princess doesn't get the hero, rather he marries his good friend, who is an ordinary commoner. However, I felt the language in this book was a little too formal.

A childhood favourite. Lushly illustrated and simply but beautifully told and rather romantic too! I will have to find a copy of this again!

The illustrations are beautiful! The story is sweet and lovely... But a little on the sappy side.
