I am: Self esteem book for girls

Rate this book
I am is a book about self-esteem for girls. This book was written to help increase the self esteem of African American Girls. Girls need positive affirmations ingrained in their minds so that's what they think about. And when negativity and self doubt creeps up and it inevitably will she can replace it with I am.

I am provides a strong foundation.

Girls are bombarded with images of what supposed perfection is.

Kids hear enough negative messages. They need more positive messages.

This book is for every girl who will experience doubt, unbelief, shame, unacceptance or belittlement.

This book is for the little girl who doesn't like a part of their body (who is perfect in everyway that counts). This book is for the little girl whose innocence maybe tarnished by someone else's insecurity.

High self-esteem is critical to our children’s future. It puts them in a better position to handle peer pressure, stress and bullying.

Words have power. Do you want your child saying the right words-positive words over and over?
Do you remember reading the Three Little Pigs and Goldie Locks & The Three Bears when you were a kid? Can you recite it almost word for word? How much more confident could you be if you read something like I am over and over?

Children with self-confidence will do better in school, go further in life clearly because they believe in themselves they are able to take more risks. They are able to deal better with setbacks. They beam self-confidence. They stand out from others. They attract attention.

Positive words must be ingrained in our children-in their minds and hearts. They must believe they are valuable. They are beautiful. They are enough. They are perfect just the way they are.

Our children grow up to be, say and do some of what they see us be, say and do. We all want to give our children/grandchildren the best possible chance.

While this is a children’s book, it is best if read with your child or grandchild. It is best to use this book to start a discussion and then reinforce some of the sentences-reinforcing the positive messages.

Don’t believe self-esteem is important-ask the anorexic teen who was already a size 2 but still wants to lose weight or the 14 year old teen pregnant by 18 year old looking for love in all the wrong places. Hopefully this book will encourage self-love.

While the pages in this book are plain and simple, the message is very powerful.
Have you ever experienced low self-esteem ever in your life? Do you currently experience low self-esteem? If so, you understand how critical it is to have to have high self-esteem and the importance of self-talk.
Self-esteem for kids needs to be nurtured. Girls have to hear positive words over and over about their self-image.
Our daughters and granddaughters are bombarded with messages from the media of what they should look like.
If you feed your children’s mind with positive words, then they are more likely to think and speak positive words.

This book is basically a words of encouragement book for African American girls. On each page, are words of positive affirmation. It can be used to remind girls of their worth and make them feel better when they are down. The book ends with the famous poem by Useni Eugene Perkins, "Hey Black Child". The poem basically is saying that as a black child, you can do whatever you want to do, if you put your mind to it.

This topic talks about the idea of race which is what my children's book is about, but I wish it had more of a story-line. The illustrations on each page were the same and the affirmations start to seem a little repetitive after awhile, so I feel like it would be hard to keep a child's interest with this book. This book is an uplifting but I would read it more as an adult than as a child.

Thanks

This book should be a required reading for all little girls. Positive reading brings about positive behavior. Great job Mrs. Miles!
