A vintage game remastered. A retro boss looming. A cocky player annoyed.
Industry Giant Tornado Tech has finally released a new version of their breakout arcade game hit Vambrace and Keaton Clarke is primed and ready to play it hard all night long. Every nook must be delved into as deep as possible and Keaton Clarke is just the gaming master to do it.
But not all games are created equal and Vambrace hides a terrible sensual secret within its coding. The game pulls off the gauntlet to challenge Keaton, the self described master of all things Vambrace, directly and he needs to be ready for an entire new kind of challenge, whether he wants to take it on or not.
As the digital labyrinth falls into pixelated panic an important question remains unanswered. What kind of retro game experience would secretly plot against its own players? More importantly to Keaton is his own personal question, “What do you mean this story isn’t all about me?”
Warning: Contains m/m situations and pixelated monster banging. While part of a series, this novelette can be read as a stand alone story!
CB Archer is a novelist who lives happily in the sunny Okanagan Valley, nestled in Canada (America's Hat).
He maintains a regular secretive existence in the real world, and at night writes filthy filthy things that would make even the most experienced librarian change to Blush Shade #6 (The highest of the shades).
Hopes for future books within the same worlds exist within the minds of naughty gamers everywhere.
Ok, so I'm not entirely sure what I expected from this book. I clearly didn't read the ENTIRE description, so it took me a little by surprise. The m/m stuff was definitely not my kind of thing, but the writing was excellent and the story was actually darn funny. A lot meta humor going on and I loved that. This is a good fit for the gay gamer in your life, so if you know one, recommend it. If you don't know one or aren't one yourself, just prepare yourself for "pixelated monster banging" and a lot of really great humor.
My oh my! This is my first read by CB, but I knew what to expect. Naughty pixelated pleasure enhanced by super secret cheat codes! All right.
As a gamer, I had to laugh at the die-hard fan that is Keaton. I mean, I won't lie, I've been in line for a midnight game purchase a time or two, but Keaton's dedication is over-the-top. Which describes everything else about this little romp.
If you're looking for a serious read, keep looking. But if you're in the mood for naughty hilariousness you're in the right place.
After reading Breakers of the Code by the same author, I had to see what Vambrace was about.
(It's really hard to say anything without giving spoilers. I hope I didn't.)
In this short story, we return to the virtual world. This time we do with the player Keaton Clark, who had broken the code of the previous version making it possible, finally, for all players to finish the game. For some he's a hero, for the mobs in the game…not so much.
Right from the beginning of the story, I laughed hard. I mean, if you are a gamer, you may recognize yourself a bit here. No, I've never camped a store for a week but I did camp one once or twice for a few hours when an expansion was coming out. Anyway, you have to read it to understand what I mean. After those chapters, I was sold. I had to finish the book.
Over all, I liked this story. It flowed well from the acquisition of the new game to the last mob encounter and just like BotC, it is filled with humor and a couple of erotic m/m.
Absolutely hilarious! I can't say much for fear of giving away spoilers, but in this shortish novella we meet game-obsessed Keaton Clarke, who finds himself literally sucked into the latest version of his favorite game, where he has a VERY close encounter with...well, you'll just have to read the book to find out :) I'm not a gamer and I don't normally read m/m erotica, but even so I couldn't stop laughing! Warning: if you don't want to read explicit descriptions of male game avatars getting it on with each other, then this is not the book for you, but if you don't mind (or actively want to read about) exploring the sexual possibilities that entirely pixelated bodies provide, you'll find lots of grin-inducing hijinks here.
The layout is done partially as game text boxes, which was too much for my elderly Kindle to handle. I recommend reading it on the Kindle app instead, where it worked great.
Once again, CB Archer has managed to combine humor, video games, and some incredibly niche sexytimes into a book that I heartily enjoyed, yet still left me scratching my head as to what, exactly it was I just read. Seriously, from beginning with a three page description of an awful stench to ending up channeling the author's inner Dr. Seuss, there isn't a whole lot of ground that *isn't* covered despite this being a short story. Obviously, this is still an erotic tale, so I can't simply recommend it to all readers, but to those inclined, come for the sexy, stay for the laughs.
WTF did I just read? lol I am sorry but I was so thrilled to get something so original and unique I got through it in one afternoon. This is a book for the gamers among us..ie me. It was funny and creative with all the filth necessary to take it up a notch. If you love video games and enjoy a hilarious and creative take on them, then you must grab a copy and spend a hilarious afternoon like I did.
They say you never forget your first time, and I have to say that this is one I will never forget. CB's first entry in this series perfectly balances description, exposition and sexy pixelated intercourse into a highly enjoyable package. Will definitely be continuing to read the series at some point in the future.
Keaton Clarke is an obsessed computer player. He especially enjoys finding cheats and has sexy encounters inside the game "Vambrace" which feel real to him. Funny dialogues.
What a fun book. If you're a gamer at all, which I am, you'll love all the tongue in cheek references to computer/roleplaying games. One of my favorites is the lamb meat that heals them... then of course, if a character can swallow down a whole piece of lamb, what else do you think he can get in his mouth?
I read this after reading Breakers of the Code, so I think I was spoiled a little. This one is still very funny, with an interesting, unlikable main character. It doesn't have the depth (ha) of Breakers, and is much shorter, but is still a satisfying read.
I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I'll give props to the author for the uniqueness of the concept but, unfortunately, that was what I liked best about the story. The descriptions in the book were nice at times but it was a little too much in the beginning, especially in regards to body odor. (Really, just too much there.) I didn't really like the protagonist at all; his ego was terribly over inflated and I found him to be a jerk. Kinda the point, I know, but I want to actually LIKE my main characters. There was a redemption of sorts at the end of the book but it really wasn't enough for me to change my opinion of Keaton. -.- There are also dub-con elements in the story so fair warning if that's an issue for you. It was an interesting read but I didn't like it as much as I expected to and that was a shame.
