This is a good introduction to leading volunteers well. It’s a very quick read, with many stories fleshing out the need for and practical nuts and bolts of leading volunteers in sustainable, growth-ready ministries. Several recommendations feel common sense, but practical “now, when, and how” tips and challenges can help leaders visualize how to make them manifest.
Great book of practical ideas for leading groups of volunteers. I had read parts of this book before and appreciated discussing with colleagues. At times, the specificity to churches wasn't totally relevant, but I thought much was helpful, encouraging and applicable. The layout was my favorite part!
I thought it was a good book, but, it just seems to say the same old message in a different way. No fault of these two authors and practitioners in the trenches with all of us. There just is not a lot more to say toward this topic of volunteers, we really seem to just be down to practicing the hard work and being consistent in it.
There are not a ton of books that speak to church volunteer directors, much less in an effective way. Miller's work here is important and needs to be read by more individuals who run organizations in need of improved volunteerism.
A must read for anyone in Youth Ministry! I work in a nonprofit that leads volunteers so I was able to pull a lot of practices from this book. Well written and well thought out, very much liked it, but not for every volunteer manager.
