This story began thousands of years in the past with the story of a Centurion who gave his life the capture a demon who threatened the world as he knew it.

Present time, the Brookhaven National Laboratory seems to be in the middle of a battle with the scientists urging for caution versus Duncan Wesley who wants to go full steam ahead on the project. Doctor Prabinwah has recently taken over from Doctor Wu who is presently missing. In another area Joe is out driving when he encounters a creature he has never seen before. Little did he know that one event would change the course of his life. At first glance, these random people have nothing in common, once all the players a set the story quickly takes a life of its own in a direction that this reader never expected.

Joe found himself captured by a hidden group called the Sylvans who captured and mind scanned individuals so they would be forced to do their bidding. Joe wasn't one to take orders well and his teaching from his Shaman grandfather gave him the strength to never give up. The players come together as they learned that there was more at stake than their freedom, the entire world.

The unexpected twists and turns brought the book to life and held me spellbound to the very last second. It was fascinating how Indian mysticism, an ancient artifact, a hidden race, and modern culture blended into an incredible story.

Strangely compelling. It took me awhile to get into this story, but once I did, the story pulled me along. The book relies more on telling rather than showing, and there are a few glaring grammatical errors, but despite that, I was fascinated by the concept and the plot. I liked the main characters once I got to know them, but I would have enjoyed getting to know them better with a little more development. The evil being below the ground contained enough of a nightmare quality to be frightening, but I did appreciate the restraint in the descriptions of the victims. All in all, this was a solid read, and I would read more by this author. My recommendation is to stick to the book beyond the first few chapters in order to get to the meat of the story. I was glad I did, as it entertained me quite nicely once I understood where the plot was going.
