HONEST REVIEW

THAT MOMENT YOU REALIZE THAT THEIR IS ONLY 10 PAGES LEFT IN THE BOOK AND YOU KNOW IT'S NOT GOING TO END WELL!
Moan, by Kenya Wright was billed as Eyes Wide Shut meets DaVinci Code, but I was not impressed. Emily is an African American reporter, who is a self-identified sex addict. When her editor, who is a good friend, offers her a chance of a lifetime interview with the Sex Tycoon of Europe, Roman Meade she initially refuses because she feels she won’t be able to resist sleeping with him because he is so handsome.
We learn in the book that when Roman was down financially watching Emily on television became his lifeline. He describes how watching her made him want to be better.
While the book was very fast paced, we don’t learn until towards the end of the book why Roman actually insist on Emily being the first reporter allowed to interview him and see inside his world of sex parties. It was at this point that the DaVicni Code reference was made clear when we discover who “The Devil” actually is. In most books when an author kills off a major character, without good reason in my opinion, it sets a tone for the remainder of the story.
We never learn the backstory of Emily’s history that shows us how she is able to do much of what is described at the end of the book. The “history” lesson about orgies over the centuries was enlightening. As were the descriptions of the various costumes and rooms that were well written and created great visual imagery. While I have read other of Ms. Wright’s work and enjoyed them this book is not a story I would recommend to others to read.
