So as it turns out being the Chosen One of the Dragons isn’t really all it’s cracked up to be. Oh who am I kidding? It sucks. It sucks big time. Suck on a level of… I don’t even have an analogy for the level of suck.
My folks are the King and Queen of the Gold Dragon Clan. Oh and the First Knight is my other dad. Yeah, I know, two dads. Sue me, I’m a freak. Or maybe not so much in this day and age. Magically aged from three to nineteen, now a year later I’m finally starting to get my life together. You know, the one I was thrust into overnight. Toddler to adult in the blink of an eye with no learning curve in between. Now, here I am. I’ve got two great friends in Rose and Rory. Rose newly promoted Queen of the Werewolves, mostly, but that’s a story in it’s own.
I’ve got a hot boyfriend. Seriously, he’s really hot. He’s also… annoying as hell? Ugh, I shouldn’t even say that to myself. See the other part of being ‘Chosen’ is that I was reborn. In my last life Lou and I were married. We were together for years and for him all those memories, all that time, is still right now. The downside is for me, it’s the past.
My mentor, Remy, is an Ancient Black dragon and as it turns out he was the Chosen One of his age. And have I mentioned that he failed? Yeah the price of failure is that magic dies. One step at a time until it’s gone from the world completely. So, you know, no pressure or anything. I fail and every shifter, every witch, every creature that has a magical nature will just fade away.
I’m not ready to save the world…

I am forged. I am new. I am steel and I know what I have to do. I’m the Chosen One and it’s my duty. HOLEY DRAGON WINGS THAT WAS... WAS... BEYOND WORDS!! So DRAGONTACULARLY EPIC! WOW! JUST... WOWOHWOWOHWOW! While this went in a totally different direction than I expected, that I wanted - needed - it was still one helluva rush of an adventure! And that climatic last third or so of this book was exceptionally, well... CLIMATIC! Trust me, once you read it you will understand what I mean, what I can't find the words to say! Besides, I REFUSE to give spoilers! I had the opportunity to read this entire World from beginning to end, all one after the other and I cannot even explain just how DRAGONTASTIC of an adventure that was! Starting with Loving Two Dragons, to Desired by the Dragon, and then to Elise’s trilogy – Dragon Heart, Dragon Magic and ending with this one, Dragon Fate. And even after all of that I STILL am not ready to say good-bye to my new friends! I wish that I didn't have to say good-bye to ANY OF THEM! EVER!! But all great things must end, right? James has blown me away with Elise's last story, but I am hoping that this is just The End of this chapter in her life. (Pun not intended, but funny all the same!) I ran through so many emotions in this book that I feel emotionally exhausted! Fully sated, but exhausted. Once again James has blown me away with his phenomenal talent and genuine gift for the crafting the EXACT stories I love to lose myself in! To be transported into a story, to actually feel like I am living the story with the well-developed characters, feeling their emotions, riding shotgun with them, to even BE them, is something that I look for in every book I read, but no one does it just as FANTASTICALLY as James does! And I haven’t even mentioned the one major part that I LOVE to point out to prove James’ talent beyond a shadow of a dragon! His ability to write a story from a 19-20 year old's perspective is one thing, but for that 20 year old to be female... well that takes it to an entirely different plateau, never mind level! I am COMPLETELY, WHOLLY & UTTERLY CONSUMED by this book, series and the Dragon World James has created here. It has touched me mind, body and soul! **Reviewers Note: I have read & reviewed every story in this Bonus Edition of Dragon Fate. This review is ONLY for Dragon Fate. JAMES D HORTON CONTINUES THIS GREAT STORY I WAS GIVEN THIS BOOK FOR AN HONEST REVIEW Elise Ddraig (Golden Dragon, Princess) is Dragon Chosen, She must learn to use and control magic for the battle against the agent of Chaos. She was taken at 3 and magically aged to 19 now a year later she is finally getting her life together. She still has her close friends Rose (newly appointed Queen of Werewolves ) and Rory another werewolf (who is so in love with Rose and she doesn't even know it). And she has a "HOT" boyfriend (Lou) S who she was married to in her last life...problem he remembers everything as if it were yesterday and she remembers it like a movie she saw but not like it was really her. Her mentor Remy (an Ancient Black dragon ) was the chosen one of his time and he failed, fail and magic dies, one step at a time. If Elise fails everything with any magic disappears, and Remy doesn't let her forget it. She has to have combat training, magic training, more combat training, also has to do research, craft spells of her own and patrolling for vampires and demons. She also has to go to a magical place for combat training with Cannetia who doesn't seem to like her so she gets to take it out in a more painful way. She will meet the Chaos guy but not know who he is....he will find ways to see her many times but not tell her who he is, he also doesn't deny it when she ask after she finds out. They will at one time be shown two outcomes of the battle, one if she beats him and one if he beats her. They are not really thrilled with either. Can she come up with a way to change the outcome for all? Will he go along with it if she does? What will happen to Remy? When the magic island is attacked, who will be hurt ?or killed? who will survive? Who is attacking them? How are they attacking a protected place?
Elise is struggling with being "The Chosen One" and all the responsibility that entails. She is trying to figure out who she is after her rapid change from a child to an adult. Everything is a struggle to keep in balance between friends, responsibilities, Leo, and even her nemesis, Matthew.
Matthew knows Elise is supposed to be his enemy but he can't help but feel pulled toward her. With all his anger and thoughts of revenge, is there any room for anything good?
What an exciting read! The world of dragons, shifters, magic, invisibility and secret islands, genetic experiments and good verses evil! Seriously, this book was packed with so many experiences and there is never a minute to be bored. The characters are rich and fully developed. The world of the book is fascinating and exciting. The characters are twisted and turned and put through the paces and you have a front row seat to every minute. The author brings you right into the book until you are so immersed you can almost see, touch, and smell the action around you. This is not one of those books you read a few pages and then you're content to lay it down. No, this one will make your heart pound and as you sit on the edge of your chair and devour every word, you will find you just can't put it down until the very last word! A fantastic read that anyone who loves a good romance, excitement, adventure or simply one great story this one is not to be missed!
Let me start off by saying Dragons are my favorite shifters and the way that James D Horton portrays them has me wanting more and more from him in this style. This trio of books (which I understand you can find in one single book now as well) is unlike any other Dragon shifter book that I have read. Well the wolves too. This author has a way of writing us the reader into the books as if we were actually there. I feel like I fly with the Choose One, I fight with Rose. I feel her angry at having to marry someone she doesn't love much less know.
This book brings us to the end or maybe it doesn't of this series. We get to find our more about Elise and Lou, which I shouted finally and i got a punch in the ribs for that. I meet new dragons and see old friends and new enemies. This book is so good and now that we have all three of them I will have a Dragon Choosen weekend were I sit with wine, chocolate and read all three books back to back and savor the "burn". I HIGHLY recommend this book that was gifted to me for my honest review and I look forward to seeing what I hope is a spin off series from this book. So many threads that can be woven from this series...... AND one suggestion is to NOT just read this book YOU really need to read all three to understand the entire complex happening. (Think long and hard about the last couple that and remember Elise has 2 fathers...that is all I will say on that so no story line is given away).
*I received an ARC of this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*
Elise still isn't happy about being the Chosen One, but when life as she knows it is put in the balance she'll have no choice but step up and be the person/dragon she was meant to be.
Lou is caught between a love lost and love that simply isn't the same. He's a protector and he needs to be loved by someone he can protect.
Chaos may be the Chosen One to destroy her and magic, but he has a few agendas of his own. If only he could get Elise on board with his radical movements then things would be right, but she isn't one to follow and neither is he.
"Don't stand against me. Let me do what has to be done."
So much happens in Dragon Fate that it kept me glued to the pages. Surprise alliances, hidden agendas, true identities, and I love so deep it can overcome just about anything.
I love how the stories all entwine within one another bringing back characters from other short stories I've enjoyed. On that note, there are some more loose ends to tie up, but Luke seems to be on that. This one, however, does bring Elise's story to an end...or is it a beginning?
My Favorite Moment: I'm not entirely sure why, but I absolutely loved the moment when Elise met Matthew. It fully captured my attention and drew me into the moment.
Finally Elise is coming her own. It seems like some don't remember that Elise was magically aged from three years old to 18 and never had a learning curve to help her mature. She's training like crazy and patrolling on her own, but she is still just a kid in a grown up body. Things are starting to click into place. As for Lou, he was starting to make me a bit crazy trying to get her to feel like he does. She does love him, he was her first love as a child and has always been there for her. She has never had the chance to even think about anyone else as a romantic interest. There is an abundance of action, romance, fear, fighting, betrayal, and love to go around. This was a terrific read and it kept getting better. It makes so much more sense if you've been with Elise since the beginning. You can see how much she's grown and matured and accepted her role as the Chosen One. I also loved how she stood up to everyone, her father included, to find a better way to end things besides killing everyone. I also was excited Rose finally figured out Rory was worth the effort. I know I will sit down later and start from the beginning with Elise's parents and read it from beginning to end. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. After which I loved it so much I bought it also.
Elisa and Matthew are mortal enemies and meant to fight each other until death. He’s got a plan to be free from all the confines of his life, but so does Elise. They each know their plan is perfect, but it can only go one way. Their attraction only makes it more difficult, but when the world is at stake, it becomes the ultimate struggle to choose the right path.
Dragon Fate is an in depth novel of adventure, struggle, and ultimately, love. This isn’t a smooth, easy ride and you’ll remain on the edge of your seat from the beginning to the very end. The magic keeps the story from having a uniform path. You’ll feel that anything is possible and the fantasy is let loose to surprise and excite you like nothing else. The hero and heroine were intriguing and thought provoking, but without the supporting cast of characters, it just wouldn’t have been the same. Every character added to the complexity and interest to this dragon adventure. You’ll find plenty to keep you occupied and completely wrapped up in the tale. The ending was sigh worthy after all that came before it. Don’t miss it! 5 Stars!
There was a lot of information given on characters during the first chapter of the book and the characters where never mentioned again or I am assuming they weren't mentioned again because I didn't read the whole book. I couldn't grasp the storyline of the book and didn't realize till later that this was part of a series. Maybe reading the first two books in this series would make this book more enjoyable but I do think the first chapter would have been better spent giving a bit of background on the main characters. While reading this book I felt like I came in the middle of a conversation. I received this ARC from the author for an honest review.
I love this well written paranormal action series. That said these kind of need to be read in order to fall in love with the characters and the story plot. This is full of dragons and werewolves and magic. This is about The Chosen ones, one good, one bad, both set up to fail, but together and against all odds, they find a better way, both loners, both trained that it must be this way, both trying for a new way! As I said love this book I dont want to give to much away and ruin the plot, but I will say after much hardship and misinformation the book in in happy way! I received this for an honest review.
Book 3 - FYI .Elise is the "Chosen One". Being magically aged so that she can save the world has been a little hard on her. Training and patrolling is not giving her any time with her friends or Lou. Lou still sees her as her past self (his wife) and not as she is now. Elise meets Mateas. Mateas seems to have his own issues. Elise winds up working through everyone's issues. She gets her HEA. Rose and Rory get their HEA. I was happy to see that. Book 3 took some interesting turns, the new Ancient one was neat. I enjoyed reading it. I look forward to more of Mr. Horton's books.
This is the third book in the Elise Ddraig, Dragon Chosen series.Matthew is the Champion of Chaos, Elise Ddraig is his mortal enemy the Dragon Chosen and the the Champion of Order. She has been magically aged from three years old to 18,she is now 20. Elise meets Matthew at a convenience store one night, they are suppost to fight each other to keep their world in balance but what happens if they fall in love? I think if I had read the first books I would have had a better grasp of what was happening. I was gifted a copy for an honest review barwatts@telus.net
I have read the whole series which has been quite an adventure. James Horton's books are filled with wonderfully written characters and imaginative story lines. That said I did have a little trouble keeping up in the beginning but the book was good to the end. I would recommend this series to anyone who wants some adventure and suspense with their romance. I received this book free in exchange for an honest review. Why no voting buttons? We don't let custom
Dragon Fate is about the two chosen ones. The two that must face each other and determine what happens to magic in the world. No pressure right??? There is a lot going on here and while I didn't like everything it was well written and progressed in a way that made sense. While it can be read alone, I would suggest that you read the other two first for the full story.
This was a great conclusion to this series. Elise finally comes into her own. Mateas is a really well written, complex and dark hero. Really enjoyed this book and series. Received this ARC for free for an honest review.
