Didn’t expect much as it is a free Apple Books app giveaway. Some of the stories are utter rubbish, some of them are a decent read and have a potential to motivate the reader to spent a few thoughts on the given topic.

Fantastic storytelling and writing in this collection of short stories. I loved the author’s play of words, the dialogue used, and the topics he wrote about. I liked the titles of the stories, and also liked that some stories were sequels to other stories. In the short but infrequent time I spent reading the book, I knew each character, so when their names came up again, I got excited to know what more they were up to.

The first short story “Lady In Waiting: A Tale Of Loneliness” was a nice one, and had a few twists in the just few pages that it had. I read it twice because I enjoyed it.

“Ade and the parents: on tribalism” got me cracking, I don’t know how many times I read it. When Ade commented on his mother’s fish stew and how he wanted her to cook it for him all the time, I knew trouble was coming, and the epic response from his dad was too funny... basically if Ade got serious with his relationships, he would have already settled down and be complimenting his own wife’s stew, not someone else’s wife.

I did not expect much from this book, however I was pleasantly surprised by it. The writing is quick and easy to read. I particularly appreciated the length of the stories, as it was exactly the length what I was looking for reading when commuting to work. The stories are not only about love but also includes other “factors” which play a role in a relationship - race, parents expectations, success in work or feminism. I particularly liked thoughts about feminisms as there were different angles presented. It must also be said that those stories are not very romantic ones - not a romance as I would expected in the beginning. It is more of realistic view on love, or maybe even bit cynical, and was very refreshing.

Overall I enjoyed it but I felt the stories lost their tone and became a bit monotonous and dull as you read along. Interesting discussions on race, marriage and relationships which provide some perspective into today's culture and society. A few typos and grammatical errors which could be easily fixed by proper editing. Definitely a quick and easy read - witty, funny and vivid. Hope to see more
