In Tom's second year at Hogwarts, his friendship with muggle-born Jana progresses. I am hoping against hope that this bubbly and smart Gryffindor does not become a target for the future Voldemort! There is a bloody Quidditch match and an International Potions Competition with participants from schools in countries as far away as China and Nigeria. I am delighted with the kind of diversity that Styles provides that JKR could only dream about.

Unfortunately, I didn't think this book provided sufficient growth to Tom Riddle on his journey to become Dark Lord Voldemort. The focus of the story seemed to be the International Potions Competition. It was fun for a while but not worth the screentime it actually got.

What pages didn't have anything about the potions competition, were taken over by Quidditch, also very boring beyond a point. Once again, the Slytherin Belinda targets Jana and gets her way. But that's really about the only exciting plot-advancing thing that happens.

There was some world building and I loved the concept of bookworms, actual beings that recommend the best books to you, depending on your interests. There were some fun moments and I really enjoyed all interactions with and between the two Eastern Europeans, Marca and Antonin.

Overall, this is skippable as Tom doesn't appear to make a move to further his cause much.

this is the second book i read from David Styles and the series Tom Riddle's Schooldays, and i have to say i like it a lot.
to be able to know more about the childhood of Voldmort is priceless, and i have to confess i read certain parts of this books afraid of what he will do or think next.

i love Jana and i'm super curious to know what will happen to her.... i'm afraid that he will do something nasty.

i will continue to read this books for sure.
