When Maxine Nicholls discovers her fiancé is cheating, she turns to Twinkies and Dynasty reruns, but her little sister has a better plan - unbridled rebound sex with a stranger.
As one of the Leafs' hottest players, Antony Laurent tallies scores on and off the ice, but when the chiseled defenseman hits a slump, rumors of a trade send him to interrupt a managers meeting at a swanky club. That night a chance encounter with Maxine results in an evening of unforgettable passion.
But a game of casual sex soon turns into something neither one of them expected, a chance to find THE RIGHT FIT.
THE RIGHT FIT is not an erotic novel, however due to sexual content, this novel is intended for adult readers (+18) only
NHL defenseman, Antony Laurent, meets, esthetician, Maxine Nicholls, who is on the rebound after catching her fiancé cheating on her. This sports romance takes place in Toronto and Florida. It is suitable for adult audience.
I felt bad for Max. Her ex-fiancé, Johnny, really messed with her self-confidence. Anthony is much better for her. I love that he likes her the way she is. I like Anthony. He feels guilty for his brother’s accident. He’s worried about being sent down to the minors. He pushes himself hard to take care of his family. I appreciate that Max and Anthony both have issues they overcome in this novel.
They have interesting friends and family. I like Carmine. He gave Max good advice and was a sweet man. I like how the characters evolved in the story, especially Marc toward the end of the novel.
It took me a little while to get into this story. I enjoyed it more as I kept reading it. I like the nail polish names and their significance throughout the book. I also thought the name Max considered for her business clever. I enjoyed the ending. It made the story feel well concluded. I would like to see a sequel with Marc and Kayla. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
It took me a bit to get into the story but I stuck with it and I'm really glad I did as I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a bit slow starting for me but it was a sweet romance read.
Maxine is on the rebound after her last disaster of a relationship when she bumbs into Antony who is a professional hockey player. This then leads to a rollercoaster of a journey which I enjoyed going on. I also enjoyed the interconnecting characters who you got to see and I hope we get their own stories in the future.
A sweet romance story about finding love when you least expect it involving a sexy hockey player, perfect.
A really great sports romance that I enjoyed reading! Maxine and Antony made a really good pair! There is this undeniable connection between them which was explored beautifully. Each character has their own set of problems and issues to overcome. Maxine has just come out of a relationship after discovering that her fiance was cheating, and that has really done a number on her. Antony has hit a slump in his career as a hockey player, and so when he comes to know that he might be traded off to the minors, he knows he's got a problem on his hands.A chance meeting with fate bringing them together time and again, they explore the attraction between them.Neither thinks they want something serious. But sometimes, just as the title says, you never know when you might find your right fit! ;)
In the beginning it was a little weird.I don't know whether it was because of the writing style or maybe due to the fact that I was sick, the first few chapters didn't have me connecting to the book. But after a few days I picked it up again and weathered through to find a story that I really liked! There are many other secondary characters who were quite interesting and added a lot to the story too! Daphne Dubois is one more author to add to my ever growing list of authors to watch out for!
Maxine, an aesthetician in Toronto, is recovering from her last relationship, which ended when she saw her boyfriend sleeping with someone else...in her bed. It has been a long six months, but she gives in when her sister wants to set her up on a blind date. That date is a bust, but she ends up encountering a mysterious (and hot) stranger. She doesn't think anything of it until they run into each other again.
Anthony is a professional hockey player, and in Toronto, that is like being sports royalty. When he runs in to Maxine, she intrigues him. She has no idea who he is, and likes him just for him. When she unwittingly helps him get out of his recent playing slump, he knows she needs to be in his life more often.
I would give this book 4 stars. This was a cute, and I loved the characters. I read it in one sitting. I was asked by the author for an honest review.
This was cute quick read about Maxine, a woman who caught her ex-fiancée cheating on her and left her with some major self-esteem issues and Antony, A NHL player who is trying to run from his demons and just find a place in life for himself.
When the two meet, Maxine assumes that Antony is someone else, with Antony not correcting her in fear that after she finds out who he really is, things will change. Antony never expected to actually like Maxine in such a way that he wants to continue seeing her, but his lies just get drawn out more and more to a point that he doesn't know how to get out of the huge hole that he dug himself into.
Maxine is a little curvier than the average girl and she doesn't have the best self-esteem after her ex- Johnny left a number on her. So when she starts to fall for the cute French-Canadian who has a hard time telling her his feelings, at least in English.... the two have an instant connection and she wants to explore it more. But she starts to get that Antony has some secrets. But who is she to judge when she has her own.
I really liked Maxine and her entire family. Antony was sweet and sexy but you really felt for him and his whole situation. Any fans of sports romance will like this book. It has the right amount of balance between the romance and the sports. I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more books from this author in the future.

Maxine has had one helluva year. She caught her boyfriend-should’ve-been-fiancé cheating – in their bed- with the lights on! Need I say more? Antony Laurent has had one helluva year. Rumor has it he’s about to be traded to the minors. What to do, what to do? How about hookup for a hot night so they can forget their trouble? One night of passion. One night of unforgettable- but-we-move-on-afterwards sex. Simple, right? Well if it were, there wouldn’t be a story now would there? One night stands don’t work out quite like that when both people are craving for a special connection – despite what they claim. But because they’re not trying to impress each other, things go so smoothly, and that’s exactly what they end up doing- connecting. And I don’t just mean external body parts. Quirkiness and lust combined created one interesting night that led to more interesting nights with some days thrown in. Mix in a protective brother, a gay best friend/roommate to that brother (who’s like another brother to Max), and a set of twin sisters who only have their looks in common (other than familial love, that is), and you have a cast of quirky, wonderfully charming characters who make just about every scene a laugh-out-loud moment. I got a little bothered by Maxine’s self-loathing and refusal to see the good in herself, but I understood. Sometimes, we are our own worst enemies and most critical judges. But, poor Antony. I felt his pain. There was nothing more he could do to express (verbally and by action) that he truly cared for her. I got kind of irritated by the length of time it took her to come around; but believe it or not, I still liked her. Maybe, I’m just not patient enough. Read the book, and let me know what you think. This is the fist book I’ve read by Dubois. I really like her writing style. She has a knack for dialogue and balancing out narrative, infusing just enough backstory to make the characters relatable without overdoing it. I want to know what happens with the other characters, especially Crosby and the TV show she was auditioning for. And Rose, dear, sweet, colorful, everybody-is-out-to-get-everybody-else Rose. I so want to meet the guy who falls for her. I’m definitely keeping up with Dubois! Won’t you join me?
