Xavier: I've wanted her since the moment I met her. But it's been ten years. I've been in prison. Locked away from the one woman I couldn't have. I'd kill again to keep her safe. To make her mine.
Farrah: I wanted to kill that bastard. Xavier Santini ripped my family apart. Now it was my turn for revenge. I'd do anything to find out the truth. About my mother's death. About him. I'd even pretend to fall in love with him. But then I realized, after all this time, I was still his.
Wasted is a FULL LENGTH, Standalone with NO CLIFFHANGER and a HEA. For a limited time, it also includes Uncovered, a full-length romantic suspense!
Morgan Black is a hair stylist by day and hottie writer by night. She walks her dogs in high heels and never leaves the house without red lipstick. She firmly believes in the power of Zen, and does Yoga freely in her backyard, in her favorite set of pumps. Morgan Black also writes hot vampire erom under M. Black.
The story didn't quite do it for me. Xavier's side of it had this great buildup about a guy who would and did do everything for this girl he loved and then Farrah's was about revenge. It peaked my interest for sure. Then he gets out and they come together. Don't get me wrong, it's sexy as hell. Xavier has a very dominant bedside manner that warms you right up but that's about as good as it got. The story component from there just starts to fall a little flat. The pacing seems inconsistent. Lingering in some places and blazing through parts that move the story forward. Farrah and Xavier staying together seems due to his pretty much demanding it, her not really having other options, and her not knowing any other type of life. It felt almost forced. The blurb called this a HEA but they fast forward 6 months after the climax of the story. Hardly a HEA and more a HFN. It also ends at 46%. Safety gang: There are no OW/OM. No sharing. There is no rape/abuse. They do not use protection ever. Neither are virgins.
Wasted, was more like wasting my time reading it. Frail story, a Godawful insta-love, paper-thin characters and an uninspired, dull writing style. Although the first few chapters held some interest and showed a lot of potential, sadly nothing materialized later on.
I am certainly a big fan of mafia romances and i have read a lot of them with various characters and many compelling plot-lines, so i can't assert that this is not my cup of tea, because it is. While reading the synopsis i was absolutely intrigued by it and i was really optimistic, but in the end it just wasn't meant to be.
If this is the first mafia romance you are reading, you will find it better than i did, based almost exclusively on the wow factor such a story inherently carries. Espionage, secrets, revenge and hot -sometimes angry sex. But is it enough?
Well i think that the sex part plays a huge role on the downfall of this story. It was so much and right there from the very beginning without even a slight build up to it. By the 1/3 of the book i couldn't take it anymore. The incessantly "in your face" presence of it, had me for the first time in my life wanting to skip chapters on a book.
Well of course i didn't and that's a good thing because otherwise i would have lost some crucial events and no one wants such a thing to happen on an ARC. Even though i found it as a whole below mediocre, i have to say that the second half is significantly better and with a healthier pace but still not enough, that being said 2,5 stars is my final rating.
THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK
- A bit monotonous. - I never felt their intense chemistry. - Farrah as a character is not very likeable or mature. - Xavier on the other hand is great. Maybe the only saving grace. Alpha, hot and strong. - I also liked his parents. - The story was a bit blurry at points while at other it was extensive and well-thought out. - Extra material, bonus book in the end.

I was really looking forward to this being that I love mafia books but sadly I was left disappointed. We have Xavier, he's the son of the crime boss, he just served four years in prison and on the day he gets out, he goes straight to Farrah. She's our female lead in this book, she's had a plan for Xavier for the last ten years and it's not just to be with him.
The reader is meant to feel these two have been pining for each other in some way for the ten years that they've been separated and to feel this connection through multiple pages of sexy time. This just didn't work for me and sadly I didn't connect with these characters. There was no flashbacks to show them at younger times, to show any kind of bond between them. Even in the present they have no conversations, just one liners to each other. I was disappointed because this book could have been hot, but it just wasn't executed particularly well. The conversations they did have were during times we didn't get to see, the reader is told about them in monologue form from both POV's in the following chapters.
The plot at times moved well and others it just dragged. There are also quite a few plot holes that just ruined the flow of the story for me. I also founf that for a short read there was multiple plots and sub-plots that I felt could have done with going more in-depth.
This book is said to a standalone, but I still have a few lingering questions. Overall, this could have been a really good book, but for me it failed to deliver.
When I found “Wasted” the first book in Morgan Black’s new series “A Dirty Boys of Chicago” I was a little unsure if it would be a book for me.
In our Blog we have certain reading specialties and “Mob” books are usually more Lauren’s than my “Thing” but the Blurb had this Bad Boy flair about it so I thought I would try it.
And basically I was not wrong.
This book has on its Pro side a lot of bad boy vibes and while I could not really connect with the female lead – the connection with our bad boy lead was perfectly fine (#wink) …
But the con side of the book also weights heavy – while I thought I might have an issue with the mob subject – which turned out totally fine against my expectations. My problems came from a totally different side. It was the pace of the story that was off.
The story is missing a constant flow. At times the story runs like hell and at others it just drags on. And the reader feels like ends just do not meet up.
If I add that to the total Insta love feeling that is floating above the whole story I cannot help but only give the book 3 stars.
Still it is an interesting start in a promising new series – and as I have seen many series turn out totally fine even if their first books had hick-ups – I would not be surprised if this series would be one of them.
I found this to be an entertaining start to a new series, and while I liked it, there were times where I felt the story was rushed. I've never felt the need to seek revenge, but given what happened with Fallon when she was a teenager, coupled with the stories she was told over time, I can certainly understand why she's seeking revenge.
So one thing that works in favor of this story is that Fallon and Xavier already know each other, so we're not subjected to unbelieveable insta-love. Although I will confess that I did roll my eyes at the point where both characters see each other again for the first time in a decade, and the events that immediately followed. My initial reaction was "WTF?! Really?" But I can't deny they do have great chemistry together. Xavier's father had me simultaneously laughing and cringing; for whatever reason, I would always imagine his father the way Robert DeNiro played Paul Vitti in "Analyze This". Don't ask me why because I have absolutely no clue, but there it is.
So what we have is a tale of love, loss, betrayal, revenge. You know, just another typical day when you're dealing with the mafia. By the end of the book, some questions are answered, but there are still some that will hopefully be answered in future books.
Wasted is the first book in the Dirty Boys Of Chicago series and it was a good start to a series that has the potential of being one I will end up loving. It was a fast paced read that combined some very hot sex scenes, insta-love, with the reuniting of two people who never expressed their feelings but felt the same way about each other, add some revenge, a dose of the mafia and some drama and it was fairly entertaining.
I liked Wasted but I won’t say that I loved it. I wish there would have been more, it did feel rushed in certain spots that left me asking is there going to be more to happen or will it just be left alone for now. For the first book it was a good start, I will continue on reading this series because I can’t pass up reading about some sexy mafia bad boys.
We meet Farrah and Xavier. Xavier's family is in the Mafia with his dad being the current head.
Farrah's mum was the accountant for them. It's while she is doing her job she is gunned down and killed in front of her.
Xavier always held a torch for Farrah but after her mum's death vanishes with Xavier not knowing what or where she is.
For the past 4 years Xavier has been locked up in prison but has never forgotten about Farrah and is determined to get his girl. With the help of a private detective he manages to find Farrah but he doesn't get the welcome he was expecting as Farrah has been manipulated to believe that Xavier has played a part in the death of her mum.
The chemistry between Xavier and Farrah is red hot and can't be denied but both Xavier and Farrah are carrying secrets that will need to be revealed before either of them can move on.
This was a good start to a new series focusing on the Chicago underground, where the men are ruthless and the women who love them. The book dealt with criminals, second chance romance, and lots and lots of steamy sex. Xavier seemed like a good guy if you look beyond his profession and Farrah seemed a little weak in the knees at times. I liked the world it painted out for me and hopefully, we'll meet more kick-ass Mafioso men. Looking forward to reading Dante's HEA next.
Xavier is not a bashful person, “get out of the car. I need to be able to see you better as I eff you.” I really loved Xavier's dad I know I shouldn't have but I thought the old man was a hoot, “fine. If she means that much to you, then she is part of the family now. Let's go blow up some of the Irish. It's been a while since I've gotten blood on my hands , and I don't like to get boring in my old age.” I really liked this story it was short and a good read.
I had an issue of really getting into this story. From reading the book blurb, I had high hopes for this story, but I just found it to be an okay read for me and I am not sure why. There was a lot of action, danger, and sex in this story.
Bonus story: Uncovered was an interesting read.
ARC received from publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I found this book, least in the beginning, like when you watching t.v. late at night and you pass Cinamax. Right in the middle of a Skinmax flick. Not the it was bad, I would like more details, then haven't seen each other in ten years and insta love..
This is the first book in the Dirty Boys of Chicago and oh my was it steamy HOT. When I first read the synopsis it intrigued me then I started reading the book and I was hooked. But it was too short for my liking and there were still some things missing from the story maybe more background. Xavier was this hot alpha male that had stayed away from Farrah because she was part of the family. Her mother was an accountant for their family and she was a forbidden fruit. But the moment that she disappeared and it had been 10 years since he saw her he would look for her and she would be his. The day he got out of prison he went directly to her and that was when things got interesting. I was trying to figure out who she was speaking with I didn’t know if she was speaking with someone in the FBI or who knows. I knew sooner or later she was going to have to tell him why she was with him. Xavier had also made her a promise about not doing anything to put him back in jail but soon he would be breaking his promise. Xavier is a man that would to anything to protect his family but when it came to Farrah he would definitely kill.
Wasted was a good read. Like I said earlier I was hooked but things happened too fast and I wanted more background. I wanted to better understand the characters and know why her mother was murdered not just the summary of it. I also wanted to know what Farrah had done all those 10 years she was away from the Santini family. Now as for the chemistry between these two characters of course there was fireworks. They were so HOT together. This is my first read by Ms. Morgan and I have to say she had major creativity. I know that I will to on the lookout for the next book in this series.
Totally recommend this read!!

I really enjoyed reading this book. It has a great storyline, lots of action, suspense, angst, decade old secrets, lies & betrayal, murder, hot steamy sex, and many twists & deceptions that you never see coming. Overall is was an intriguing book. As much as I wanted to, I just could not relate to the characters. I liked both the Hero and the heroine, but they were very underdeveloped. Had they been developed, I believe that it would've made for a better story all together. Some of the situations, like them meeting, instantly having sex, and then living together all within just a few hours of them reuniting after years apart just made the story seemed extremely rushed and at times forced. The author had a great idea with the storyline, but IMO the story needed more time and depth added to reach it's full potential. This is the first book I have read by this author and I like her writing style and her storylines. I would love to read more of her work that had more development to the characters and the story itself. She is definitely talented and I can't wait to see what she has in store for her future books. I've stated some of the things I had issues with in this book, but that's not to say that everyone will have the same reaction. I would recommend this book. I received a free copy through NetGalley ih exchange for a honest review.
I enjoyed “Wasted”, Farrah and Xavier knew each other years ago. Xavier’s family is mafia and Farrah’s mother worked for them as their accountant. Farrah’s mother was killed and she went to live with her mother’s family so she and Xavier didn’t see each other for 10 years. Xavier just got out of a four year jail stint, he paid his attorney to find Farrah and the first thing he does when he gets out of jail is to pick her up at the crummy diner where she works. They have instant, explosive chemistry (pretty hot scenes) and he pretty much tells her she is moving in with him and is his girl. This is a short novel and there is a lot going on between the mob families that is unexplained. You know pretty quickly that Farrah has an ulterior motive for being with Xavier, but she is falling in love with him. Xavier just wants Farrah and he actually wants to go more straight since getting out of jail. I’m not sure if this is a second or third in a series, but as a reader it seemed like there was more going on in the story that I didn’t have information about. Pretty hot love scenes and lots of chemistry between Xavier and Farrah. Good story line and I would read more by this author.

Xavier just got out of prison, having served four years for a crime associated with his mob family. Upon his release, he immediately runs to find Farrah whom his lawyer finally managed to find after years of not being able to locate her.
Farrah was yanked from Xavier's life nearly ten years ago after the death of her mother. The author portrays Xavier and Farrah of being very close when they were younger, having practically grown up together since Farrah's mother worked for Xavier's mob family. The downfall here is I really didn't feel like they were that close; perhaps if there had been flashbacks of their time together when they were younger I would feel differently but I found the author to be very vague in this area.
I was surprised, and found it unrealistic, that Xavier would run straight to Farrah upon his release without looking into her history better. Given that it was suspected that she witnessed her mother's murder, I would think that Xavier would have had his attorney dig deeper.
The big issue I had for this story was that I just didn't feel the connection beyond sex with these two.
If you purchase the ebook, this story concludes around 50% and then you have a second book (unrelated to this book) to read.

This was my first book by Morgan Black. This was a story about 2 people that have a second chance at love, and happiness. For me, I would have liked a little bit more of their past history right at the beginning of the story, and a little longer epoligue...like a big mafia wedding?babies? :) Overall I enjoyed this book, it was a quick read. There was an Italian mafia rivalry, family love and devotion, a bad ass man with strong muscles, lots a hot sex!!! I loved Farrah and Xavier these two faught through a lot off shit to finally figured out that they love each other and despite all the odds against them - they can't live without each other, they belong together forever.
So at the end of the Wasted story was another 3-part (Boston Buyer's Club #1) story (which I didn't know when I put in my original review ) this one is about Hudson and Calla she is a good college girl, hard worker- he is hot, might be envolved with the wrong poeple, throw in some Russian Mafia....you kinda get the idea! Well that story to me was even better then "Wasted" so I give it 5★★★★ :)

Xavier Santini comes from a mob family. He spends time in jail for a crime that he committed protecting his family. All he can think about in jail is the one girl that was hands off to him.
Farrah became part of the Santini family since her mom worked for the family. Once her mother was murdered she was taken away and went back to living a normal life trying to pay her bills. But one thing that she wanted was revenge for her father’s death. To get her revenge she has to face the one man that she loved growing up.
This was kind of a short read for me. I felt the beginning of the book was awesome. Xavier was getting out of prison and going to find Farrah to make her all his. Farrah is out for revenge but as soon as she sees Xavier for the first time her feelings knock her revenge right out of the window. Don’t get me wrong the chemistry between Xavier and Farrah is hot!! I just feel as if the storyline could have given me a little more. Overall it was a good read.
Have to say I just loved it when a bad boy tries to redeem himself even as bad as Xavier Santini. In my head when I started reading about him I imagined Justin Theroux that brooding, sexy and dangerous in Xavier Santini. Morgan Black created this hot man for us showing us all his secrets, vulnerability and most of all his feelings towards the forbidden fruit, Farrah. Now here is a girl who at a young age witnessed her mothers death and now a war has started. I loved that Morgan Black wasted no time with Xavier and Farrah getting together and man the sex between them was hotter than ever as years went by. Wasted is more than a book of the Mafia but of a family watching one of their own and a man getting the woman of his dreams after all these years. Loved it.
I got this book from net gallery for an honest review. Xavier, is part of the mafia which his father is currently the head of: and he has been in prison for the last 4 years but is desperate to find the woman he loves. Farrah watched her mum get gunned down and then suddenly disappeared. Xavier, through private investigators finds Farrah but all is not what it seems: both have secrets which can either unite or destroy them. Xavier knew what he wanted and he was a man on a mission to finally have the one woman he always loved. As opposed to Farrah: she was targeted easily by Ramsey and manipulated to believe and see the worst in Xavier and avenge her parents death. I enjoyed this short book and would definitely recommend this book.
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The story alternates between two points of view: Xavier and Farrah's. After reading two chapters, I was totally hooked, wanting to know why their perspectives about each other were so different. She struggles between her feelings and honoring her parents. And Xavier is doing the same, but his struggle is between his love for her and his loyalty to his family. I love Xavier. He is a bad guy but with Farrah, he is just perfect. The book is full of hot scenes! The story is good. It made me nervous several times, not knowing whay it was going to happen. It is the first time I have read a book by this author, but definitely, it won't be the last one.
Wasted was a short mob story. So the writing was ok. I just wasn’t impressed with the whole plot. All the mafia thing did not convinced me, I had the feeling I was reading scenario for a really bad movie. The character poor develop. Like they see each other for the first time in 10 years and they fall in love immediately. Serious you know that the guy is a killer and you are determined to kill him and you sit with him in a car and have sex the same night. And she does it without protection! The events that happen afterwards are lame. But the sex scenes were not bad at all, on contrary really hot. I was not satisfied with the story that’s way so poor rating. *ARC provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review
copy courtesy of Netgalley This a quick read. Farrah and Xavier grew up together and were secretly in love. They lost touch when Farrah's mother was murdered. After 10 year, 4 which Xavier spent in jail, the are reunited. They start off as if they never parted. However, they both have secrets that could tear them apart. The story was a little rushed. The is a lot of interaction between the mob families that create some tension, but the story never really comes together. Just as the action gets you going and things start to get interesting, it ends. It is okay as a teaser/introduction to the series.
I loved this short, sweet, sexy, sassy, exciting mafia story. Farrah was part of a family until one day her mother was killed and she was forced into another family. Life was not the same as she waited to get her revenge on him. Xavier has been thinking of her every day and could not wait to be released so he could claim her. As their past and present combine Farrah and Xavier will need to be honest with each other to make things work. I loved the start of this series and look forward to reading about more Bad Boys!

A DEFINITE MUST READ!!!! Xavier Santini sexy mafia bad boy is no saint and when it comes to the love of his life Farrah all bets are off. Reunited after 10 years Farrah's out for revenge after witnessing the death of her mother and Xavier is the target. Secretly in love with each other when they were younger but never admitting their feelings and Xavier felt she was to young to pursue at that time but now that Farrah is grown up he is letting her know exactly how he feels and he's not letting her go again and he's making Farrah his this time! Highly recommend that you read!!!

Xavier and Farrah are explosive. Xavier has always wanted Farrah from the moment he saw her she was his. His been locked away and even those irs been ten years he still owns Farrah and he would do it all over again to protect her but will she listen to him. Farrah has waited for her chance to get revenge on Xavier to find out the truth behind her mother's death, she'll do whatever even pretend to love Xavier but her heart will know the truth, she's always been his but can she trust him?
I received this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
DNF I made it 25% and just couldn't read any more. The story was slow and too introspective. The author spoon fed me all the information instead of showing it to me.
It's not often that I don't finish a book, but in this case, I just couldn't.
The Mafia romance is a new genre for me. I really liked this book. It had great characters and a suspenseful storyline. Xavier is a bad boy enforcer for the Santini family. Farrah was a part of the mafia family until her mom is killed, now years later she wants revenge. What starts out as a revenge plot, turns quickly. I'd love to read more in this series.
I really enjoyed this book! It was not overly long so read in a nice timely manner, I read it in a sitting. I fond it well written and the characters where cool. Extremely hot in places! I will be looking for more of Morgan Blacks work.
I received this from Netgalley but I enjoyed it enough that I purchased it for my kindle!
