When Symphony Ryelle discovers she is one of the Narcoli, a race of immortals, it’s not long before the elves of the Uthor Igni tribe destine her for beheading at the end of their scythes.

While hiding in the most unlikely places, Symphony learns of the existence of a group of Narcoli who call themselves The Gathering. She promptly sets off to discover their sacred society of protectors, but what she doesn’t realize is that her enemies are closer than she thinks. Having grown up in an orphanage with little instruction on the toils of survival, will Symphony’s knowledge of books and pleasantries help her evade capture? What’s in store for the other immortals of The Gathering when the Uthor Igni come, and what does the elven leader want with them? With her only means of escaping lying in the dragon lands of Acariya, Symphony must decide whether her fear of the beasts is worth her life.

Full time author, mother, and seeker of knowledge, Amara E. Starling is a temporary resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, but permanently resides in the deepest recesses of the human imagination. There are few topics Amara won’t write about, and she often finds comfort in breaching the darker subjects that society tends to shy away from. Her writing style is often poetic and thought provoking, and embraces the theme of finding strength in the face of adversity. Fragments: Book One of the Symphony Ryelle Saga is her debut novel.

When she’s not writing, Amara can be found wandering through state parks, finding adventures with her children, donating to charities, and more often than not, drinking copious amounts of coffee while passionately researching into the night.

What do you know of myths? Do you believe in moon children and the rare eclipse?

Dragons, sky ships, and dark elves? Yes, please! And can we talk about that gorgeous cover? It's what drew me to this book, and I'm very glad for it.

This is the story of Symphony Ryelle: Narcoli, orphan, and would be lover of a mysterious benefactor. This is not an adventure story though she certainly has her share of that. This is the story of a woman’s life, her journey to discover who and what she is.

Her story starts in an orphanage, where the girls are sold as “wives” to rich men. Her rescue from the orphanage comes at the hand of an enigmatic savior. Like a fairy tale, her savior disappears each night, returning the next morning with food and laughter. He procures her a job on the sky ships, and then leaves.

From her humble beginnings in an orphanage, to the snapping sails of the sky ships, and beyond to faraway places and further adventures, Symphony seeks answers. She makes friends and enemies wherever she goes. She becomes, in her own words, a woman of determination, traveling to distant lands to meet more of her kind, The Gathering, and learn about her lineage.

To our own protection first; to the dragons, our last breath.

I absolutely loved this book. Loved it. It has shades of Jane Eyre and Robin Hobbs’ Ship of Magic, with a scope reminiscent of Patrick Rothfuss’ The Name of the Wind. I’m certainly not looking forward to the wait for the next chapter in Symphony’s life. I loved every minute of this book, and I was sorry to reach the last page. If you enjoy dragon tales, dark fantasy, and strong-willed characters, don’t even hesitate. Add this book to your collection.
