Quill and Ink… is divided into seven sections entitled Inspirational, Motivational, Creative, Antiquity, Cats, Short Stories and Creative Visualization. In each section the author seeks to share her inner most thoughts, life experiences and guidance with the reader in these areas.

The first stanza of the first poem, Thoughts, is a good introduction to the content and context of this book.

“Thoughts come in massive crowds.

I see them as clumps of clouds.

Some are dark, angry, forbidding.

Others are light, airy, forgiving.”

The section entitled Motivational, begins with an interesting piece on the importance of the human factor in achieving writing success. The author provides guidance on all aspects of the writing, editing and proofreading process in the context of the central theme of the necessary and vital human factor.

The following stanza from a poem called Light and Color in the section headed Creative stands out in my mind:

“The rays of sun and reflection

Create splashes of color selected

By the hands of gods and goddesses

That no artist with brushes

Could duplicate on canvas

In oils, pastels, or elements”

The Short Stories section includes some delightful tales about unexpected discoveries of unknown ancestral roots and people regressing and experiencing a short period in an ancestors life. These stories are beautifully written and provide plenty of food for thought in the context of the paranormal and ancient myths and stories.

I received this book as a gift and enjoyed it so much I had to share it. The author begins with an introduction comparing the book to the mystery of the standing stones of Stonehenge whose secrets have never been revealed.

Yet, I found the exact opposite. This author reveals some of her deepest feelings and thoughts, written in songs, verse, stories, and visualizations. The following stanza touched me - obviously, it was something I needed to hear.

"The quill and the ink, The rose and the thorn, teaches us patience and reticence."

The second section of the book is dedicated to the reader who is also a writer. The author, who is also an editor, shares editing tips, proofreading advice, and examples of how a piece should be written.

The prose contained in this small book is cleverly written for the writer who will understand the courage it takes to write a book and bring it to fruition.

An excerpt from her novel, Annie's Story: Blessed With a Gift, is also included with a Foreward section dedicated to her paranormal experience with age regression to help her cope with extreme claustrophobia. Annie's Story is the result of that experience. I've read that book and you can read the review here.

Quill & Ink is the perfect gift for the writer in your life. I loved the opportunity of getting to know more about this author. I think you will, too. <3

Quill and Ink…Inspirational, Motivational and Creative Writings by Deborah Bowman is an anthology of poems; short stories and inspiring articles that evince author’s understanding of emotional aspect of life. A profound thought that holds your interest right in the beginning is ‘the quill and the ink, the rose and the thorn, teach us patience and reticence.’ The poems exude the philosophy of life…”you’ll have to dig a bit to find your true purpose…Destiny and infinity are never-ending goals!”

Section – 2 of the book is dedicated to writing process that inspires the writers and reassures them how their imagination cannot be hijacked by computers. Only a human mind can keep track of a fictional plot, its consistency and clarity. Bowman wears the hat of a writer and an editor alternately while sharing her experiences in this part of the book.

Deborah’s short stories are gripping as they slowly drift into past and present, with surprising details. Her style is crisp and intuitive, quite different from a storyteller as she writes in various genres. This book clearly reflects her penchant for diverse interests.
