The Servant Queen and the King she serves is an exciting new resource for Year 6 primary school children celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Produced by Scripture Union in partnership with HOPE, the Bible Society and the London Institute of Contemporary Christianity, this 12-page booklet uses the Queen’s own words to draw out the central role of her trust in Jesus and open up questions about the Christian faith.
I enjoyed this quick read (although it was 63 pages, not 12!) into the faith of Queen of Elizabeth. I felt some of it was "watered down" a bit and would have loved to see a more in depth look into what she believes. Faith, Jesus Christ, and serving Him all are spoken of but there is never a definite reference to His sacrifice on the cross for our salvation.
Reading this has given me a lot more respect for the Queen after seeing how she values God as important in her life! There were a couple things I didn't agree with, but it was still a worthwhile and interesting book to read :)
Of all the touching stories in this faith-filled book, the one that impressed me the most was that of Albert Simes who sent a Christmas card to the queen each year from Izmir in Turkey each year from 1952. When on a state visit, she met him, she unexpectedly acknowledged the cards and when, in 2011, his grandson sent a card instead, she had her aides find out why and wrote to express her condolences on his grandfather's passing.
This depicted the queen from the angle of her Christian faith. Borrowing largely on past Christmas messages, it showed her allusions to her faith in God and the power of prayer. Nicely illustrated and an easy, quick read. I would have liked a bit more of an in depth look at her faith but appreciate that with the queen being such a private person, such information might have been difficult to acquire.
Although quite a private person, not often expressing her opinions, the Queen was always very clear about how her Christian faith shaped her life. This short book( to commemorate her 90th birthday), often centres around her Christmas broadcast messages, interspersed with beautiful photos and biblical quotations. As one of the most important people of the last century, she still maintained an incredibly humble servant heart, following in the footsteps of Jesus and radiating His love and light to all she met. She did not choose her role, but her long life of dedication and consistent service speaks volumes to this troubled world.
I finished this book today, just for hours. The book mainly based on the queen's broadcast speech and many photos of the queen. Truth need not much word. Some sentence quotes from the bible touched me because the Queen did exactly what the gospel told. Respect other people no matter who they are, and never let other people waiting for you and help who need help. And do work is not just for money but serve the others. So impressive!
I have long studied the British monarchy and knew the queen was a deeply spiritual person, so I was excited to read this. It is quite good, lots of photos, some I'd never seen and that's saying a lot, BUT be warned this book is only about 60 pages long. I paid way too much for it. But it is good.
A lovely little book that was owned by my mother detailing the service and religious beliefs of QEII as well as her abilities to remain regal despite country and family issues throughout her reign. I know my mother regarded this book highly and I find quite a bit to contemplate that fits both my mom's and the queen's life.
A short but encouraging read as I did not realize what a godly woman of faith Queen Elizabeth II is---faith and family is first and foremost especially in her yearly Christmas message where she encourages all to follow the example of Christ and love and serve others.
Certainly worth the purchase. Of all public figures, I admire Queen Elizabeth II the most. I appreciate her willingness to name the name of Christ and His resurrection. I admire her strength of character and her unwavering commitment to an office she did not choose.
A really quick read. An enjoyable read, I didn’t know a lot about the Queen beforehand. She seems to have a strong faith and be a woman of integrity and has a servant heart.
Couldn't help to finish reading it right after I received it. This book is certainly a valuable resource to understand the foundation of the Queen's integrity, resilience, strength and wisdom. She always refer herself as "servant" and make reference to Christ who came to serve but not be served. I am so impressed by the episode of her coronation in 1953, her symbols of the Queen's status were removed - the Crimson velvet robe, the diamond diadem, the necklace, leaving only a white dress, as pure and as innocent as a bride, came before God and was anointed by oil and was given the most valuable thing - the Bible - surpass all the sceptre, orb and stuff that worth millions of pounds.
This short book was written for the occasion of the Queen's 90th birthday and is a beautiful commemoration of the personal life and faith of Queen Elizabeth II, with the foreword written by the Queen herself. The book quotes a lot from the Queen's Christmas messages in which she speaks about her faith in Christ and shows how she strives to live a Christian life. The book by no means covers her life and faith in depth, but it does provide some great insights into the mind and personality and faith of the Queen. She is a true servant in service of Jesus Christ, her King.
Loved this intimate look into the life of Queen Elizabeth II. It's beautifully told in the Queen's own words, demonstrating the central role that her Christian faith and the Bible have played throughout her life. Hers has been a life of unstinting service to God and her country, and she's someone I admire. Thank you to my darling niece, Karen Lynn, who gifted me this lovely book, and who has resided in England since her marriage to a Brit in 2002, and whose five darling children are both the Queen's subjects and American citizens!
An interesting look at the Queen's faith. I learned a bit I didn't know and appreciated her attitude through out. She could teach our politicians a thing or two about religious freedom being for all faiths.
Really nicely illustrated look at the life and faith of Queen Elizabeth II. Read it and learn new things about the longest reigning monarch in British history.
