Half-fae Sam Gollet is no stranger to solitary confinement—being a half-fae working as a vampire enforcer will do that to you. She is also accustomed to solving the crimes within the supernatural community inside the Illinois Mystical Reservation when the feds refuse to lift a finger. After being released from Solitary, she finds herself quickly embroiled in the mysterious deaths of leading members of the fae community. Despite having been ostracized by the fae community, Sam agrees to solve the murders at the risk of her own safety. As the body count rises, she'll be forced to show her allegiance to the fae and prove that she's not in league with Heywood’s vampire gang, all the while trying to rebuild her crumbling friendships, avoid rejection from her family, and dissuade the unwanted attentions of a mage living outside the reservation. It seems like no matter what she does, all they can see is her allegiance to the vampires, leaving her wondering if she is stuck with misguided allies.
My journey to become a writer began in 8th grade, when I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and pulled from school to recover. During this time, I was left alone for hours on end and it was then that I discovered new friends within the pages of books. I also learned the blessing of creating my own friends by writing down the stories that plagued my lonely mind—as demented as that sounds. Therefore at the ripe age of fourteen, I wrote my first novel. It sucked! But I kept going and now I am finalizing my first indie novel, with sequels to come, and two other series along with a fiction based blog. I never imagined that first horrible novel about a man who crash landed on his long lost home world would turn into a lifelong passion. I now live in the
The main character is strongly defined and what I particularly like in these novels is when she has her arse kicked she suffers. She doesn't get right on up again and fight on to save the day, she suffers and drags herself around without acting like a bouncy ball.
The supporting characters a good with a fine couple of nasties thrown in, and the mystery element keeps the plot kicking.
I am LOVING this series!! I am so surprised because usually this type of paranormal isn’t for me fae’s but you know what getting out of my comfort zone had really made me see that I like new things!
Sam Gollet goes through a heck of a lot in this book. I love that she doesn’t let things affect her, she should maybe process it all but she keeps moving and helping. I love that she is so dedicated but I want to see her take some time for herself to. She really goes through a lot and her body boy she is a fighter she just keeps bouncing back. I love her friends and how they help, her family man her family… I won’t say more on that but just dang man.
The suspense and mystery of this book made me not want to stop it for ANYTHING. (Sorry Kids, LMAO) The twist in this one SHOCKED me and I can’t wait for the next book like NOW lol I have loved the audiobook Janelle Tedesco is a new narrator for me and she is quickly becoming someone I look forward to listening to.
I almost loved it! There was just a bit too much angst and Sam being obstinate after people help her. Sam is forever thinking no one will help her since she has been hated by family and neighbors since childhood. Now she is trying to save the very Fae who have turned their backs on her.A good follow up to book 1 with hints of book 3. Janelle was a fine narrator. free for an honest review.
Misguided Allies, the second book in the Void series, picks up a few months after the events of Cornered Magic. Sam is continuing to fulfill the role of enforcer and gopher for Heywood, head of one of the vampire clans on the Illinois Mystical Reservation. But as Sam deals with Heywood's growing demands, and threats against her friends an family, prominent fey begin to be murdered. Is this the work of rogue vampires, or maybe the newly captured and imprisoned wizard is involved? As more fey are killed, and there is evidence that vampires may be behind the deaths, Sam convinces Heywood that it is in his best interest to let her investigate. But as Sam digs deeper into the murders, she learns that the fey community still mistrusts her and her void abilities, especially now that she seems to be employed by the vampires. It will take all of Sam's wits and skill to figure out what is going on and stop the murderer.
In Misguided Allies, Charissa continues to explore Sam's confined world within the mystical reservation. This book is almost twice the length as the first one, and Charissa makes wonderful use of this additional space to give us more depth and background to the characters. Not only for Sam, but for her friends and family. Sam continues to be put into some tight places because of her powers and unwanted association with the vampires, and Charissa does a great job of showing us how these struggles affect Sam. Sam does a lot of growth in this book, not only in how she deals and reacts to people she has known all of her life, as well as the new people she's met, but in understanding her powers. Her gift is essentially wild, everything that she knows how to do with it Sam has learned on her own. In a way this makes her more powerful (and dangerous), and in the climax of the story you really get to see Sam shine using her gift.
I still would like to know more about the world that Charissa has created. We are given a few more glances into the everyday life on the mystical reservation, but the events leading up to the climax of Misguided Allies still make me wonder how the fey, vampires, werewolves, and wizards let themselves be put into this reservation in the first place. It is the one thing I really want to know more about. There are some hints, but it is an unresolved issue that I hope Charissa will answer in a future book.
I read the audiobook version of Misguided Allies, narrated again by Janelle Tedesco. Janelle does a good job of making each character seem unique and different, and she really makes Sam's character come to life. There was a minor problem at the very beginning of the book - a sentence seemed to be repeated, but overall the quality of the production was very good.
I recommend Misguided Allies for anybody who enjoys urban fantasy. Charissa has created a very interesting and unique world that is fun to explore.
Misguided Allies The Void Series, Book 2 By: Charissa Dufour Narrated by: Janelle Tedesco
‘Misguided Allies’ is a well written, well told story that immediately grabs your attention and captivates it to the very end and what an ending it is! Charissa Dufour takes us back to her creative and imaginative world where vampires, werewolves, faes, & mage are forced to live in reservations under the control of humans. The story picks up after book 1, ‘Cornered Magic’, with Sam Gollet, a half-far Void in the Illinois Mystical Reservation. Sam, the main character, is still ostracized by her own kind because of her ability. Heywood, the head vampire use blackmail to force her to work as a enforcer for him. This causes her to be even more of an outsider to her family, friends & Fae community. Yet she continues to go out of her way help others and try to find out who is murdering Fae in the reservation. The storylines are interesting and action packed with drama, suspense, mystery, twists and a touch of romance. Character development continues, it is great finding out more about each character their abilities and powers. I highly recommend this book and series which gets better and better. Thank you for another great story!
I listened to the Audible edition, Janelle Tedesco is an awesome narrator and storyteller. She performs the voices of all the characters gives them heart and attitude as well as their own distinct voice. She switches characters effortlessly, sets the perfect tone and adds the right amount of dramatic flair to enhance the story even more. Thank you for another great and entertaining listen!
Misguided Allies picks up where book 1 left off. Man, it was just as great as the first one, only this time we get a whole story instead of a teaser. It doesn't end on a cliffhanger but we are left super excited for the next book in the series to see what Sam will get into next. There isn't a whole lot of world building or explanation of who everybody is, since we got all of that in book 1. I think a listener who is unfamiliar might be able to follow along without book 1, but would enjoy the story more if they listen to book 1 first. Sam is one tough bada chick. Very strong main female character. Captivating paranormal story with some mystery, betrayal, and a little romance; and is well written, too!
This narrator gives us another fabulous performance in this second installment to the series. She really brings the characters to life and draws the listener in more by intensifying this freat story. Definitely an excellent fit as Sam and gives good character distinction. Very impressed with her and would love to hear more performances by this narrator!
I received a review copy at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I just love the 2nd book of The Void Series.
Sam, a half-fae Void, is ostracized by her own people, much less the humans who control her home—the Illinois Mystical Reservation. Packed into the Reservation with vampires, werewolves, faes, and mages alike, Sam does her best to travel below the radar, but when her only friend asks for her help she can’t say no. Her work to solve a fae’s murder brings her to the forefront of vampire politics and changes her life forever.
Love that this writer makes it easy for me to get to know Sam and her friends. When I started I count stop reading. I was like "WHAT NO WAY!" When I found out who's the bad guy turn to be. I can't wait to get my hands on book 3!!!!
This is the second book in The Void Series. The first book was suspenseful, and this one is absolutely breathtaking. The world building is fantastic, and the characters are great, intriguing and well developed. Sam's story is entertaining! The storyline is complex, filled with action packed, twists and turns, intrigue, romance, and mystery. Janelle Tedsco did an amazing job with the narration. Now, I can't wait for the next book in the Series.
Like my last review I really enjoy this series. Narration is on point. Main female character is strong in most ways and her only weak point (or to her disadvantage) is love and empathy. No real smut but still a good amount of angst between Mfc and love interest. I still just don’t understand her undying loyalty to those who couldn’t care less, poor sausage just needs some love! Looking forward to book three.
Gifted audio in exchange for an honest review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is a wonderful 2nd installment in the void series. The story moved quickly and efficiently along with lots of twist and turns. I found my heart hurting for Sam for so many reasons. Such a great story. The narrator does a fantastic job of bringing you into the story. I can’t wait for the 3rd book!!
Charissa has done it again in the Void series and I couldn’t be happier. This book has everything from betrayal to understanding and definitely keeps you wanting more. Once again Sam is pulled into some seriously dangerous situations and yet she is able to pull herself to the top finding some surprising allies along the way. I can’t wait to see what comes next!
I was super excited to listen and review this one, and it did not disappoint..Samantha is a force to be reckoned with!! She is getting better with her gift and wont be held down any longer...this one is steamier too!! I really enjoy this series, its different and keeps your attention..the narration is excellent also!!
I received this book at my request for free but the review is of my own. Sam is back dealing with jolted friends, an upset family, trying to solve cases, and working for a vampire she hates. Life is still not simple for her as she’s trying to figure out who are suddenly killing the fae and how to get away from the vampire she works for. Another awesome tale of a very believable character.
A naive, self-sacrificing idiot is naive and stupid. That is the plot. Wow. TSTL all the way. But I guess that is the only way for the mysterious and sexy master magician to rescue his damsel or somesuch. I don't actually know, I haven't gotten that far.
The pace really picked up and the plots thickened. By the end of the book things reach an explosive conclusion - question is what will happen in the next book
Magically delicious! (yes the cereal is mentioned in the book but it also describes the series) I am thoroughly enjoying this series - there are quite a few more books to go, too--bring them on!
Good magic world-building, a bit too much killing and destruction... feelings of characters do not read true, love, lust, racists behaviors do not seem correct/logical to self-preservation
Well worth reading. Continues the momentum from book 1. Still has the problem of incorrect/misspelled words noted in her other books. Really needs to get a better proofreader. If you can overlook this nuisance, you won't be disappointed.
