Lioslath of Clan Fergusson has defended her clan and her orphaned siblings against countless enemies. So when Laird Colquhoun, the man responsible for the death of her father, arrives at the gates of her crumbling keep, she'll fight him all the way!
It's soon clear Bram's famed tactics of seduction and negotiation won't work on this guarded, beautiful woman. But when the sparks between them turn to passion, and they're forced to wed, Bram must do whatever it takes to win over his new bride…
Nicole first discovered romance novels hidden in her grandmother’s closet. Convinced hidden books must be better, Nicole greedily read them. It was only natural she should start writing them (but now not so secretly). If she isn’t working on the next book in her historical series, she can’t be found. No, seriously. Because she’s always working on the next story!
I love Scottish romance books. Give me a laird, muscles, a hot accent and I am so there. This book is the third in the Lovers and Legends series. The reader does not need to read the other books in order to enjoy or understand this one.
I found myself not liking or connecting with Lioslath. I thought she was too stubborn, too standoffish, and too full of pride for her own good. Yet, I understand WHY she felt this way. She had a lot of awful stuff happen to her as a child and then as an adult. She's learned how to get along by herself. She doesn't really depend upon on anyone. She has a hard time connecting with people and understanding them, probably because she doesn't understand herself. However, despite me not liking her in the beginning, she redeemed herself at the end, and I softened toward her, just a tad.
Bram was an easy character to like. He knew that life was fleeting. Sometimes there are hard times, sometimes good times. A person needs to have the fortitude to get through the rough times, and enjoy the good times. He knew to cherish and embrace what you have when you have it.
These two characters think that they know a lot about people and the world, and about each other. They are both so wrong. Lioslath and Bram have much to discover about themselves as well as each other. They both have absolute feelings that needs to be challenged by each other, which is what happens, and oh man does the sparks fly.
I loved the development of Lioslath and Bram's relationship. It was very slow going due to Lioslath getting in the way of herself, and yet, when she allowed Bram to get to know her, to "SEE" her, it was beautiful. Emotional, romantic, all of the adjectives that a reader wants to see within a romance novel.
Lioslath's younger siblings were a hoot and I enjoyed the part they played in getting these two characters together. Her youngest brother is especially funny, because he's a five year old, and, well, I think we all know that the most unexpectedly funny things have a tendency of flying out of their mouths.
Give Nicole Locke a try. Check it out and see if this book might be worth reading.
Poi stiamo parlando di me!
The Highland Laird's Bride by author Nicole Locke is third in her Lovers and Legends series and absolutely one of my favorites! This story revolves around Lioslath of Clan Fergusson and Bram the Laird of Colquhoun.
If you've read the previous two books then you have seen Bram and heard a little of the Fergusson clan. I'll admit in book one it took me awhile to start to like Bram. He was Laird of his clan, and came off as arrogant and used to being in charge and in control of everything and everyone around him. But oh my, in this story I absolutely fell for him! He was a fantastic hero and the romance between him and Lioslath was one of the best. Lioslath was one of those heroines where you immediately want to see her get her HEA. I absolutely loved her, so strong and she challenges Bram every step of the way. She's not the type of woman Bram thought he wanted as wife but they were absolutely perfect for each other. I really had a hard time putting this book down and if I could rate it 10 stars I would! Absolutely loved it!
The series can be red independently, but it makes so much more sense when read together. When you see the whole picture of the Clan Colquhoun adventures to safeguard their people and all of Scotland during the English invasion of 1296, it makes a very good series. Looking forward to more books.
finnished and whlie this book only take me a few days to read. i didn't enjoy it. i don't like the hero. i just don't feel he listens enough. i really hope the next one is better
The thirteenth century is drawing to a close and Scotland is in turmoil. The chaos brings Bram, Laird of Colquhoun to the gates of the Fergusson keep where Lioslath, daughter of the house, has barred the gates against him. Bram, famed far and wide for his skills as a negotiator, meets his greatest challenge when he bargains for the wary Lioslath’s hand in marriage. With honeyed words and capable hands he eventually breaches Lioslath’s defenses, though not without overcoming dangerous obstacles along the way. Lioslath, in the meantime, distrusts Bram’s carefree manner and fights to keep him at arm’s length even as she desires to hold him close. The manner in which Bram unlocks Lioslath’s heart is the draw of Locke’s work; her hero displays an eloquent understanding of human nature in a series of romantic declarations that are worth remembering for the third date. While The Highland Laird’s Bride has romance and passion in abundance, it lacks a strong historical foundation. The politics that lead Bram to Lioslath’s doorstep are convoluted and not fully explained until the end of the text. The complete absence of a male leader in Clan Fergusson also defies credulity. This a book for those who demand little history of their historical romance.
I'm going through a Mills & Boon phase. this is a recent phase brought on by a friend's recommendation and the fact that WHSmith have helpfully been selling them at 5 for the price of 4! Like the other M&B historicals I have read, this one was excellent. I loved the feisty Lioslath and Bram is the typical alpha male. I don't usually read medievals (I'm usually a Regency girl), but I might well start after this. But be warned. Ms Locke's books are fairly saucy, so if you are a bit of a prude then this one might be a bit too hot for you. But some of us like it hot!
