Mak is Whack
I've no clue exactly what made me pick up this book, but I'm sure glad I did. Mak is a dark, erotic, psychological thriller that took me on one hella twisted journey.
Mak, or Poppy, to some, is a recovering drug addict. From the start, she appears as an organized, intelligent, a bit naive, and likable thirty-four-year-old woman. As a child, she was raised by her dad, whom she truly loved. Considering she didn't have a mother, there were still enough positive role models in her life.
Unfortunately, Poppy was the target of some pretty horrible abuse/bullying as a school-aged child. Maybe if she had confided in her dad, or possibly if she had a mom to comfort her, Poppy's inner demons wouldn't be fighting their way to come out to play—and boy do they ever.
She bonds really well with Lottie, one of her fellow members of NA (recovery center for substance abuse). Lottie has a toddler daughter, Georgia, whom she loves dearly and is actually a good mom to.
Mak is consumed with revenge and boy does she get it. The best part? Lottie is just as deranged as she is. After a while, Mak feels comfortable enough to tell Lottie about the poor fate handed to victims number one and two, and her intentions about finding and punishing future victim number three. The plan that these two come up with is just as sinister and demented as they are—the best way to define them? Think Thelma and Louise starring in A Clockwork Orange.
When all is said and done, Lottie and Mak wind up having feelings for each other that are more than that of a friendly nature. So, be aware that there definitely are a couple of lesbian sex scenes.
The pages of this book are chock full of colorful details and description. A few of the phrases and words are Aussie slang, so I found myself having to look them up which was no big deal. This book is pretty different from anything I've ever read, but I love to be pulled out of my comfort zone every once in a while.
The storyline is compelling, the characters complex and colorful, and the writing is brutally raw yet thoughtful and honest. With all that taken into consideration, this fantastic book was easily a five-star read for me. I highly recommend Mak by new and upcoming author Shay Bell.

Mak is an intense, dark read about revenge that throws twists and turns in your direction at every corner. Mak has had somewhat of a hard life, and turned to drugs to help her deal with the emotional pain of being bullied. Through Narcotics Anon and her own inner strength, she cleans up her act and is now drug free. Mak still has a few skeletons in her closet that need to be taken care of before she can be fully happy.
Mak strikes up a friendship with Lottie, another member of NA. As the two get closer, you start to find out that they both have a lot in common. At first, you don’t really get to see what a disturbed person Mak is; slowly her demons start to make their presence known, and you are floored with just how ruthless she can be.
She does things that are unspeakable, but she feels she is vindicating herself from the abuse she suffered as a kid from her peers. Skeptical at first, Mak takes a risk and confides in Lottie, warily hoping she would have the support she needs from her friend. Turns out that the both of them see things in the same warped way. The two plot together to finish the business Mak needs to accomplish in order to carry on with her life.
Mak's adventure takes on another twist as the last person on Mak’s list turns out to have been an innocent victim, just like herself. After Mak hears her story she turns her vengeance to the source of all the pain and suffering Mak faced as a child. Mak and Lottie leave nothing undone—all loose ends tied up in a nice big, bloody knot. After doing so, they find themselves as more than friends—their own sexual and emotional relationship begins naturally.
I have to say that I felt like I was on a roller coaster through much of this book, you never knew what was going to happen—the story was as unpredictable as Mak herself. The paragraphs are heavily loaded, curtesy of the author's painstaking care to detail. His character's, as troubled as they were, were actually likable. The storyline blew me away to the very end. The editing top notch. Outstanding job by first time author, Shay Bell. I look forward to reading more of his work and I highly recommend this book.

3 stars!! Revenge is strangely erotic!!
This book is a stand alone, partially true story (or so I read).
I enjoyed many parts of this book. I liked the main character, Poppy and the journey she was on. I adored her Uncle Gary. I even liked Dave. But truth be told the story dragged so much the first 50% that I tried to quit a few times. Also I did not care for the reasons for the revenge. It just felt so petty. I am not sure but this book did not do it for me. I could not in good conscious give this a lower rating because it was wrote quite well and the erotic parts were written very well.

This was so far out of my norm for books that I read, but holy cow did it work for me! Mak and Lottie were awesome and I loved how they ended up in the end after all that had happened. Such a great book!

Poppy got her revenge, but good. I was cheering her on. Don't mess with little girls who grow into strong, determined women. I couldn't put this book down, it was written with so much intensity.

Bravo Shay!!! Wow, I have to say I loved this!! The story and characters have everything I look for in a good read. Shay isn't just great as telling a story, oh no, he puts you their. My emotions ran high with Stiletto, one minute I was laughing along, one minute I felt as if I couldn't breath, the next, I wanted to throw my device out the window I got so mad. And for me, thats what I want! The main Character, Poppy, also known as Mac, Is so tormented by her past and the demons that haunt her, that in her own sick way of a therapy deals with it in a way she feels that only she can. Through out the twisted journey Poppy sets off on, she finds unconditional love, and closes chapters in her life which she was happy to end. There were times while reading my heart broke for Mac, and even characters I wanted to hate, I felt for. I was kept on my toes from the little twists to fun Australian terms. Again, bravo Shay and well done, I look forward to my next great read from you.

This is a good debut novel for Shay Bell. Set in Australia, Mak tells the story of Poppy (Mac), a troubled girl who is trying to rebuild her life. Growing up with no mother, and finding it hard to make friends, Mak turned to drugs to relieve her pain. After the death of her father, she decides to turn her life around and quit the habit. When we meet her, she is in a Narcotics Anon meeting, and has reached a huge milestone, being one year drug free.
The further into the story we go, the more we see just how disturbed she is. Holding on to some events in her past, she is determined to make those wrongs right.
Lottie, her sponsor and friend from NA becomes mixed up in her plans for revenge. Together they take things to another level, in both their friendship and their revenge.
This book was very descriptive and painted a very clear picture of the characters and their surroundings. I don't personally know anyone like these characters, so I found it hard to relate to them, but obviously that is up to everyone's own preference.
I think the story-line had a lot of potential, and I would have liked to have seen the ending be a little less rushed. I felt like it was all too easy, and needed just a bit more.
That being said, well done, Shay on your debut novel. You did it!

Past Meets Present
This book was a great book and a new author to me. I would recommend this to readers who are looking for something different, suspenseful, and hot! I will warn some people that there are mf, fmf and ff scenes. However, this book is so much more than that! So, skip over those parts, if that's an issue, because the bigger part of the story is what the message is really about! I did have some problems with the language, due to the country and phrases used, which I usually don't, but I had was patient and it wasn't enough to turn me away or stop me from reading this book the whole way through! There is a glossary in the back, but it wasn't those words that I had a problem with, although many may, who knows what reader knows what. This book is based on Poppy aka Mak, who went through something as a kid. Due to this, after losing her dad, she takes a wrong turn in life. After letting a friend in, Lottie, and having some family friends (who are more like family, and who help raise her, than they are friends), she decides to take control of her life. This means going back to the past for her. Will the three main people who changed her life in the past, remember her when she confronts them? Will they help to give her the answers she seeks?

Meet Poppy (Mak) from the start you know she is tough and there is a history as to why, this is definitely not your sweetness and light romance we would all love to have. It is however an extremely well written, dark, full of suspense, passion, strength with added genuine soulful love and understanding. Poppy turns to drugs when her father dies and has to deal with her past as well, she isn't a young girl she is 34 so you will get how much the sadness, loneliness, isolation and revenge has been building. She manages to get herself clean and meets Lottie at a rehab meeting, they have a brilliant friendship between them and with Lottie's little girl Georgia they have plenty of fun time too. Poppy sets out on a path of revenge on the three she blamed for a brutal time she had when she was younger, some scenes are hard to read and raw but they are vital to the story and sadly in real life these things happen and the effects are ongoing. This is the story of an independent, strong woman who has no financial worries who has come through alot and only acted on what deep down we all would like to do to those who have done so wrong..... This is definitely a must read that will certainly get your heart rate going and you won't want to put it down for sure.

When I first received this book I was told to keep an open mind, and by golly you certainly needed too. I am not sure what I was expecting but this book was so different but so good and it was my first book by Shay Bell Author
I haven't read to many books about hardcore revenge but I want to now, this was a great book, some things shocked me and it really wasn't normal but I am so glad I gave this book a chance.
This book had everything, violence, LGBT which I have only read m/m so that was interesting there was some m/f/m which was also great, suspense, and you really just didn’t know which way this book was going to go.
This is a book about revenge and the main characters Mak (Poppy) and Lottie we so awesome, they were both such in the moment people and just went for what they wanted. All the plotting and secrets were what kept the story so interesting, and just kept you intrigued and I didn’t want to put the book down I needed to know how this was going to end.
I really did like this book and if you’re looking to get out your comfort zone, or just read something completely different then you have to give this book a go it was just brilliant.

I have been looking for different books lately. Something fresh not your everyday same romance story. So when I was ask to check this author book out I was like why not. Stiletto is dark, raw, emotional and erotic all mix in one and I bet you thought Stiletto was just pair of women shoes...
Poppy (Mak) was a girl that lost her mom when she was little and all she had was a father and his friend she called Uncle Gary and his wife she called Mum. Growing up all Mak wanted was to make friends but the other children in the neighborhood had other ideal in mind and believe when I say they were not innocent.
Once I started reading this book I could not put it down. The twist and turns around every bend will pulled you in. This sorry will break your heart or put a smile on your face.
In this book you will meet Dave the nosy sexy neighbor that like to keep a eye on things..*hint hint* and Charlotte the only true friend a girl needs and you will learn how hard life was for Mak growing up.

It's not my normal read, but I was intrigued. I mean the warnings before the book even started would deter most readers. It's like when you see all the signs, stop, turn back now, save yourself, but you go in anyways, yeah that's how it was for me going into this book.
In this book Stiletto, we follow Poppy (Mak) on a week long binge if you will. The books starts off with her 1 year clean meeting, that just doesn't leave her as fulfilled or satisfied, it's like she's missing something. Thinking back on her childhood of being teased and bullied and ridiculed, it's something she just can't let go of. She need to get revenge for her younger self, and that is what she sets out to do.
This book is full of sex and revenge, it's a really twisted book. If you're into that kind of thing, or you just want to take a trip down the rabbit hole to see what it's like, I would recommend this book.

After the death of her Dad, Poppy(Mak) takes some wrong turns in life, deciding that she needs take back her life. After meeting Lottie, they become fast friends. Poppy decides to take revenge on those that have wronged her though out her life. With everything that has gone on in her life, Lottie tells Mak that she’s been living in a time warp and sets out to help bring her to the present.
Mak sets off and stars seeking revenge, and you find out what happened to her as a young child, although when Lottie starts to ask questions, she realises that she needs to let her know, what her plans are and Lottie agrees to help her. Then Mak finds out that Lottie had her own revenge as well. Your kept intrigued, with the twist and turns, waiting to see how Mak will plan her next revenge. After everything Mak went through when she was younger and her revenge she does get a happily ever after.

I was torn with this book. I didn't realize that there was a revenge plot (other than the blurb telling me) until about halfway through. There was some reference to things that had happened in the past, but not what they were or that they were serious enough to seek revenge. Once that was established, though, I really got into it. I liked Poppy, even though she was an odd duck, and loved learning what made her tick. It was an interesting storyline that had me thinking about it even when I had to put the book down. The dialogue of the book didn't seem to flow smoothly, and there were times that it was forced, and that could be distracting. Overall, the way the book ended was nice and tidy and I thought it was great!

This is a fantastic book which I can totally recommend to readers. Its different to what I usually read from my M/M books, but it completely held my attention all the way through. Poppy aka as Mak to her friends has had a troubled childhood and upbringing to her school days to her parents.. She's planning revenge.. A great book that his some hot scenes between the main characters.. There's one scene in this book that I absolutely loved at the start that had me laughing my head off..and in other scenes as well..You gotta read this one, I wont be looking at a laptop the same way again without laughing.

Wow! Just the cover alone drew me in to want to read Stiletto, and I am so glad that I did.
There were so many twists and turns that I couldn't put it down, I needed to keep on reading to know what was going to happen next. Poppy is hardcore, she is mad at those who bullied her as a kid, and she wants revenge and boy does she get it! I got sucked into her world from start to finish.
I also loved Lottie. I love her daughter Georgia and how much Poppy loves her. Poppy and Lottie have an interesting friendship! lol. I thought they were great and work really well together.
Stiletto is a must read!! I can't wait to read more from Shay! I love that his writing flows really well!! :-)

Wow what can i say about this amazing book! This was a new author to me and thought why not give it a go after another Author I respect had promoted this book .OMG was I hooked very early on to the strong woman that is Poppy. She had been through so much and recovered a strong indepent woman on a mission, I wont spoil the book by giving away the plot as you really need to experiance the emotional rollcoaster for yourself, not for the faint hearted as its very suspencful, dark and violent at times and heartwarming and fun too, you wont be disappointed in this read.

I have to say this book was not only erotic & full of guessing at what Poppy went through as a child, it was damn good. The author caught you within the first few pages & kept your attention throughout the whole book. It is very well written & flows easily. I highly recommend this book to any & all that enjoy this genre. An author that is worth following & a must read.

Not normally the genre I would read. This book is dark, erotic and fast paced. A bit hard to follow some of the Aussie lingo ( there is a dictionary at the end) but a really good story about finding revenge to the childhood tormentors and the character also finding herself peace and love. Revenge is definitely sweet in this book. I'm glad I was pushed out of my comfort zone and glad I read this book.

This is not something I would typically choose to read but I'm so glad I did. The author has artfully told the story of Mak and her desire for revenge . There is so much going on in this book I really hate to say more for fear of spoiling the book. The characters are interesting, likable and a little quirky
The author did a great job of setting the scene, I felt as though I were watching the character interactions unfold. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Awesome story though not a sweet fairy tail.
Bad things happen to many of us in our lives. Very few of our real live nightmares are exposed to the light of day. If you have suffered at the evil hands you know the lasting scars it brings. I loved this version of how justice could be served. Cold has always been the way I believed it should happen. Yet with the beauty of a love formed and happy endings too.

Absolutely one of my favourite books of 2016!!! Stiletto was raw, emotional, dark and erotic!!! Shay kept me intrigued from page one. I loved every twist and turn in Poppy (Mak's) journey. Love Shay's twisted mind and the wonderful characters he has created!!! Would highly recommend Stiletto to all my friends!!!

Amazing
Wow! I've just finished reading this tale of one girl's revenge.
We meet Poppy aka Mak very early on in the book. This girl is tough and takes no prisoners. Violent story with lots of sexiness so don't be expecting a mills and boon type of romance. Very enjoyable romp.

3.5 stars...this book was an interesting read for me. It was dark but erotic but the slang (Aussie slang) threw me off a lot. I honestly had a hard time getting into this one and it dragged a bit for me. It had plenty of twists and turns that I wasn't expecting but it just wasn't for me. It is well written and if this genre is something you like, I'm sure you'd enjoy it.

All I can say is wow and I think I wanna find out the true life events that inspired this story!! This book does have quite a few steamy scenes so be warned about that. The suspense will keep you guessing all through the book. This is the first time I have read anything by this author and I must admit that I am going to be following them from now on!

This book was twisted oh so good... a new author to me and i have to say i like it. I would recommend this to readers who are looking for something twisted, suspenseful, and sexy sexy! Poppy aka Mak is an abused soul that is yakking control of her life and exacting revenge.... With a little help which makes it even better...
