A new steamy, novella length, shifter fairy tale, retelling of Beauty and the Beast from USA Today Best-Selling author, Sylvia Frost...
Twelve years ago curvy Bel Booksmore snuck into a mysterious farmhouse in the woods and had her first kiss and glasses stolen by its owner. Now a successful writer, Bel thought she would never return. But when her father unwittingly steals a million dollar rose, she’s dragged back into alpha werewolf Samson West’s world. And this time, whether by claw or by contract, he’s not going to let her go.
Nice short modern retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I would have liked a little more detail on Bel and Samson's first meeting. Any the "why" Samson and his brothers had to "repurchase" their parents home after they died. Didn't understand that.
First book for me by this writer. I didn't think this was a beauty and beast storyline. Bel is dared to enter an old house that is supposedly haunted next campsite she was staying on as a young adult. Samson is a werebeast that finds Bel sneaking into his house. Samson takes Bel's virginity and that when he realises she's his life mate. Now Bel is a adult and a YA paranormal writer she comes home to find out that her dad has picked a rare Rose that is worth 1.5 million dollars and is being sued. She goes to the house to try a resolve the issue and ends up cleaning for a grumpy Samson who had been isolated in the house and lands for years has been left feeling lonely and heartbroken that his mate ran away. Enjoyed but could have been better and didn't think this had a lot to do with beauty and beast. Good HEA
This is the story of Isabella, (Bel) and Samson West, strangers who aren’t really strangers at all. It is a slightly different take on the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale. Bel is a writer who is home because her story genre isn’t the “it thing” that it used to be. While home, she comes across a legal notice for her father for a sum of money that neither of them has because he inadvertently destroyed a rose belonging to Samson West from a garden that was cultivated by his deceased mother. To get out of the lawsuit, Bel reluctantly agrees to become Samson’s house cleaning lady even though she’s no good at it. From that point, the two spend a lot of time avoiding their obvious attraction. Samson’s wolf goes through mood swings over how his mate it while Bel keeps trying to rationalize what she really already knows. Along the way to a HEA in their story, we meet Rex and eventually Luther West, Samson’s brothers. Rex is rather quiet and calm in his words and actions despite having alpha tendencies while Luther, who was a bit of a bad seed has gone feral. That’s the reason for why Samson and Rex were at the house to begin with—they were looking for Luther. While there are other things going on within this story, I don’t want to give too much away. After reading this story, I HAD to buy the next one because I had to know what happens to/for Samson’s brothers! Sylvia Frost has a writing style that just pulls you in making you want to read til the end to learn what happens so I can’t wait to read Cinder’s Wolf—Frost’s version of Cinderella.
I’ll admit that I almost didn’t start on this story because the abbreviation BBW (big, beautiful woman) in the title made me think it was going to be erotica — all sex, no story. But then I read a teaser for the second book in the series and was immediately hooked. I’m a sucker for a good fairy-tale retelling, so I decided to give this one a try.
I was instantly drawn into the interesting world-building, which was painted with a very light but elegant hand (no infodumps here!). The author’s writing is a notch above most paranormal romances and I ended up thoroughly enjoying the story.
I don’t want to spoil anything, but suffice it to say that “Beauty” is legally blind and the beast is a werewolf. Expected and unexpected antics occur, the pages turned awfully darn fast, and I was ready for the sequel before I knew it.
I love that this is a romance that features a plus size main character! And a hero that doesn't love her in spite of her curves but because of them! This was just a sweet fluffy novella set in a world I'd love to know more about! Werebeasts are known but they were considered to have gone extinct 200 years ago? What happened? What other kind of beasts can people turn into? How do mate bonds work? It is a mark of a good author that I'm looking forward to reading a full length novel that hopefully answers those questions
This may be a novella, but for once, who the heck cares? Not me. Normally I stay away from them, but in this case I didn't and I'm glad. I can't wait to read the rest of this series. For those who are interested in shifters, this is the book for you. For those interested in HEA, this is for you as well. For those of you interested in hot, dominant alpha male werewolves, then I recommend this book to you. And Sylvia, I'm coming for the rest of your books!!
It wasn't the worst thing I've read, but I don't have anything particularly positive to say either.
A Beauty and the Beast retelling, with a BBW YA author (Isabella, h) and a reclusive shifter (Samson, H). Some details close to the traditional fairy tale outline - the father stealing a rose, the daughter taking his place to settle the debt, and a growly and hermit-ish male lead. No Gaston equivalent or selfish sisters (depending on the original version you prefer). Pretty much just the two of the leads getting together.
I love a good B&B retelling, but this one just didn't do it for me. There's no real spark between the leads, and they even spend a fair amount of time avoiding each other. Maybe if this hadn't been a novella-length, there would have been more time to actually develop the characters, their history, and their connection. Developing their connection would have also helped the story feel not quite so rushed. Plus, it felt like we were dropped into an existing world, but it's the first in a series. Some of the details that were unique to this world didn't feel developed, just referred to as if we should already understand them - like some of the intricacies of the mate mark, the werebeasts being extinct, even the magic portal that Samson thinks about. I suppose it could be setting the groundwork for more development in future stories, but when the mate mark (for example) plays a significant point in the plot here, shouldn't we understand a little bit more about it?
Some continuity errors. Those things always drive me up the wall. Like how fast time passes (is it one week like he says, or weeks like she says?). Or things like "the first time he had ever called her by her nickname" was at 82% through, even though he'd used her nickname before (at 45%, for example). If you're going to highlight a detail like that, make sure it's accurate.
Also, the mate mark. A patch of fur at the small of her back. So, a furry tramp stamp? Weird, just weird.
Alternating 3rd person POV. No cheating, no OW/OM drama, no love triangle nonsense. Following a general Beauty & the Beast outline, it's the story of two people drawn together. Not clean, but not a lot of explicit details either. HEA but no epilogue - more of an HFN? No cliffhangers either, though two brothers have been introduced and two BFFs for future stories.
Would I read more by this author/in this series? I dunno. I'm not opposed, especially if it's another free Kindle find, but there are other SPN authors I prefer, so I guess I just wouldn't be in a rush to get to the next book here.
This is the first time I read this author. I had this on my kindle for awhile and finally got a chance to read it. I am impressed of how good it was. The details weren’t over bearing and the author made you want to continue reading more. (Even though we knew the outcome before).
A good short, hot, and true-to-its-tale kinda story. It's a shifter adaptation of Beauty and the Beast and still true to its original story. Not much twist since it's a short erotic novella. Not much of a side story nor background of the characters too. But it's still leaves a good after taste reading. Wished it could be more, though.
I'm not usually one for third person, but the fact that this was a novella made me willing to give it a shot, and I'm glad I did. Bel and Samson are perfect for each other. This book was sweet but also the right amount of steamy. I loved the banter and only wished there was more. Overall, it's worth the read.
Finally a shifter book where the big reveal doesn't go "oh, cool. You turn into a wolf. Nbd." And I liked that Bel was strong without being either Wonder Woman or a complete bitch.
I don't think it comes as a shock anymore that once again I give one of her books a 5 star rating. i'm addicted and cant get enough of her work. In fact right now in starting number 2 in this series.
Beauty and the Beast is my favorite.. so I love reading it in any form. Sylvia has cought the love and romance of them. If not better than the original. Looking forward to reading Cinderella next.
This one was too short for me. It had me from the beginning, then again beauty and the beast is one of my favorites. I will continue on with the series.
Novella length, this reboot of the classic fairytale has a strong and sassy heroine-ironically a YA author who writes shifter stories-and the brooding, lonesome beast who just happens to be said shifter.
This is a well written story with lots of happenings told over the course of a few months-Samson's missing sibling and his hidden secrets to the unexplainable attraction Bel is hard pressed to believe is possible simply based on their physical appearances-until she finally looks beneath the surface. I do appreciate the fact that Bel and Samson didn't just jump into bed in the first chapter. The build-up was well paced and made the sexy times much more appealing and believable.
This is the first book I've read from Frost and I enjoyed it. I liked her writing style and will definitely be checking out her other books!
A retailing of Beauty and the Beast, and I enjoyed it. You have the dad who messes up , the daughter who tries to fix it, the beast who wants to mean, burly, but ends up being so freaking cute. I know big bad wolf isn't cute. But he is, I enjoyed this , well written, quick, read.
This is a shifter story, which lends itself well to an updated version of Beauty and the Beast, as well as a curvy girl romance. I thought it was a good retelling, incorporating many elements of the traditional version as well as modern updates.
I thought it was a decent read. Its a re-telling of Beauty and the Beast with a chubby heroine Bel and a hunky werewolf Samson. Overall, the book followed the telling of Beauty and the beast minus Gaston. If you are looking for sex, this isn't it, this was tame no descriptions. However, I only gave it 3 stars because the ending seemed rush and could have been much better.
I love Beauty and the Beast so when it comes to spin-off books, I can't seem to get enough of them. This is a quick, romantic read where the Beast is a werewolf who might sue Beauty's father for stealing his rose. Of course Beauty rides to her father's rescue in a comedic fashion. I thought this was a really cute take and really enjoyed the story.
I really enjoyed your own personal twist on the story. I keep reading about these werebeasts and want one of my own. Imagine going through life missing a piece of your heart/soul only to find it and fight against it because of fear or other deep seeded issues. Come and join Samson and Bel for a ride you will enjoy and not want it to end.
A very easy read with a few chuckles thrown in until arrive at a lovely happy ending. Nothing too thrilling or fast paced. It's all centred on the relationship between them. I enjoyed it but not as much as I enjoyed Cinder's Wolf (the next in series). Can't wait for Luther and Red's story. They've got to be the wild couple!
Aww this is my first book from this author and it was a really sweet one. I had been craving some beauty and beast love so I thought I'd give this a try and it did not disappoint. I'll admit that the story was a little far fetched in order to fit the original beauty and the beast storyline, which is why I'm giving it 3stars but it's a cute afternoon read none the less.
AWESOME FAIRY TALE I loved this retelling of the classic fairy tale, but with a new take and a few surprises. My only complaint was that it was too short. It was so good, I wanted more.I can't wait for the next book. I received this book as a gift for an honest review. Patsy Sacco
