Why Does God Allow Suffering?: Little Book of Guidance

Rate this book
Robin Gill sensitively examines the various explanations that theologians offer to the problem of why the world contains so much innocent suffering. A book for all who want to believe in God but struggle to do so in the face of the pointless cruelty that appears to be built into God's creation.

This is a short book. (I read it at a single sitting.) It sets out, in a compact series of logical steps, an argument to justify continued belief in a loving God who is the sole creator of the universe. I was already familiar with much of the further reading suggested at the end of the book, but this did not mean that I had nothing to learn from this slim volume. Its brevity brought things into clear focus and its clear, twenty-first century writing style makes it more accessible than some of the heavier tomes referenced in the bibliography. It would make a good starting point for a young person of faith experiencing their first encounter with the Big Question, “Why does a loving God allow so much suffering in the world that they created?”
