Aspen was more likable this time around. Totally called it on who the man eater was.

There were quite a few tense moments (which was a good thing) and the story moved along at a good pace. I thoroughly enjoyed this book 2 in the series, which really needs to be read in order.

Hello readers!
Oggi sono qui per parlarvi di Aspen, il secondo volume della serie The Dragon Kings di Kimberly Loth, edito Queen Edizioni.
Ricordo di aver letteralmente divorato il primo volume, e con il secondo non è stato diverso.
La trama procede rapida e si evolve senza intoppi; si svelano nuovi colpi di scena e la dinamicità delle vicende non manca.
Nel parco di Yellowstone, anche dopo la morte di Marcellus, le uccisioni non sono cessate e la caccia al drago continua.
Tuttavia, durante la lettura, ho avuto modo di avanzare i miei primi sospetti su chi sia il responsabile.
A questa vicenda si intrecciano altre nuove complicazioni, una profezia e il consiglio dei draghi daranno filo da torcere ai nostri protagonisti, che però non si perderanno d’animo.
Mi affronti nonostante le tue paure.
Sei più coraggioso di gran parte degli uomini, e anche di qualche drago.
Il nostro Sid scoprirà realmente cosa significa avere le responsabilità di un sovrano;
dovrà compiere scelte difficili, senza tralasciare le possibili conseguenze;
si troverà costretto a dire addio a persone davvero importanti per lui, e ciò lo porterà a una vera e propria crescita che manifesterà in tutta la sua risolutezza.
Anche in questo volume posso confermare che il suo personaggio mi trasmette estrema dolcezza e determinazione, tuttavia è diventato un pelino più istintivo.
Ci sono personaggi nuovi? Sì.
Ma vorrei parlarvi di un ritorno di fiamma!
Skye l’abbiamo conosciuta nel primo volume, ma il suo personaggio è stato solo una comparsa, probabilmente la ricorderete come la draghessa con cui Sid era fidanzato prima di intraprendere la sua esperienza umana e conoscere Aspen.
Inizialmente non mi è stata particolarmente simpatica (poi capirete perché), ma con il procedere della storia guadagnerà molti punti.
Anche lei sarà un concentrato di dolcezza e determinazione, l’ho percepita molto simile a Sid in questo.
[..] Skye apparve sulla soglia. Sgattaiolò in aula, e lui dovette ammettere che era assolutamente meravigliosa come umana, proprio come lo era in forma di drago.
Anche questo volume è raccontato in terza persona e trovo sia una scelta veramente intelligente, perché abbiamo la possibilità di seguire in modo omogeneo tutte le vicende.
La narrazione è semplice e senza troppe pretese, il punto forte è sicuramente la trama e il mondo fantasy; il ritmo della lettura è scorrevole, vi susciterà curiosità sin dal primo capitolo.
I dialoghi mai troppo lunghi o troppo corti, mai inopportuni, anzi, rispecchiano perfettamente le personalità di chi parla.
Il suo corpo era scosso dai singhiozzi.
Non provava niente che non fosse tristezza e dolore. Fece di tutto per rialzarsi, per comprendere quell’esperienza orribile.
Questa serie mi ha coinvolta tantissimo, durante la lettura mi sembrava di essere a Yellowstone tra i Draghi e di poter volare insieme a loro.
Scopriremo ancora di più di questo mondo, nuove specie e nuovi poteri, nuovi complicazioni e colpi di scena, nuovi addii ma anche nuovi personaggi. Sembrerà di non averne mai abbastanza.
Ma Aspen? È ancora viva? Se siete curiosi vi conviene leggere subito il secondo volume!
Continuo a pensare che sia un Fantasy costruito nel dettaglio, ogni elemento è ben studiato e con il procedere della lettura ogni tassello giungerà al suo posto.
Impossibile non innamorarsi di questa serie se amate il genere; intanto attendo con ansia il terzo volume.
Non vedo l'ora!

Still really loving the series but had a few issues with stuff, like how an 18 year old girl was able to sit in on a meeting with the President of the United States without anyone batting an eye. Also I figured out who the bad guy was by the end of the first book and they have yet to suspect anyone close... It getting hard to think of these people as intelligent............ Still I really like the characters aside for a few lapses in judgement and the plot is still intriguing.

Se nel primo libro della serie Obsidian e Aspen iniziavano la loro conoscenza e la loro storia d’amore, in questo volume li vediamo affrontare pericoli di altro livello: sono costretti a combattere per la loro vita mentre intorno a loro muoiono le persone care.
Li abbiamo lasciati convinti di aver eliminato il drago mangiatore di uomini, li ritroviamo a dover affrontare il rischio di essere uccisi e di dover combattere una guerra che coinvolgerebbe tutti i draghi e avrebbe ovviamente conseguenze anche sugli umani.
Il legame tra SId e Aspen li metterà in pericolo di vita, l’arrivo di Skye , l’antica compagna di Obsidian, inviata per separarli ma diventata in breve la loro più grande alleata, li porterà a trovare una soluzione.
Obsidian viaggerà con Aspen tra tutte le specie dei draghi alla ricerca di alleati che lo rendano in grado di affrontare un consiglio sempre più determinato a impedire il suo legame con un’umana.
Vedremo i due ragazzi entrare sempre più in sintonia, essere disposti a tutto l’uno per l’altra.
Cresceranno, affronteranno il mondo con progetti e voglia di futuro e Aspen sarà davvero la protagonista di questo volume.
Conosceremo nuovi personaggi, entreremo sempre più nel mondo dei draghi, nelle loro tradizioni, nell’oscurità che avvolge molti di loro. Saremo catapultati in un mondo ricco di magia, di antichi miti e vedremo Aspen muoversi perfettamente a suo agio tra ali e scaglie.
Come vedete sono molto reticente sulla trama, ma in questo libro sono talmente tante le cose che possono cadere nello spoiler che, a parer mio, è meglio omettere del tutto gli avvenimenti.
Vi posso dire che Aspen è fantastica: forte, determinata, una perfetta compagna per chi aspira al trono dei draghi. Sapere se ciò sarà possibile, quali ostacoli incontreranno lo scoprirete solo leggendo.
Un libro adattissimo a qualunque età; la trama è accattivante e scorrevolissima, i personaggi davvero ben delineati e avventurosi. La parte romance è sviluppata quel tanto che basta a giustificare il rapporto che lega Obsidian e Aspen ma non è il “piatto” principale.
L’intreccio, il giusto susseguirsi degli eventi, dei colpi di scena sono alla base del successo di questi romanzi.
Non vedo l’ora che la serie continui perché i nemici sono infidi e i due ragazzi di certo in pericolo. Inoltre voglio sapere di più di Rowen, il fratello di Aspen che si sta trasformando da ragazzo terrorizzato a giovane di carattere e…

The more you read the interesting it gets!
I'll write the things I don't like about this book 1st.
So the thing the bugged me the most is the book doesn't explain why there are dragons? Do they live in a different world where they alway existed? Did they just show up one day and all the people say hey did you know that there's dragon at yellow stone now! That's cool!
The other thing that I didn't like is this book seems to have the Twilight vibe. Been there done that and I sick of copy cats!
That being said I still gave this book a good review because I like the dragon side of this book and want to know more. The characters are fun and the romance is decent (not as steamy as twilight though!) There's no swearing and no sex although sex is mentioned and I'm pretty sure there will be some in the books to follow! Although they are "married" in dragon terms. So over look the bad cover and give this book a try if you like fantasy and twilight then this is the book for you.

What?
I didn't finish. I dropped the story at about 5% in. I made allowances for the first book's teenage weirdness but I couldn't finish this. The characters feel nothing after a string of murders and these were people eaten alive by flying monsters.
One of the teenagers is concerned that newspapers get the picture of one Dragon executing another proving dragons handled the murderer. How this picture proves anything other than dragons will kill each other, I don't get. She is OK with the pictures of her favorite teacher being eaten alive. The five hundred year old Dragon has the whole brooding teenager persona that is not attractive on human teenagers. A teenager can block governmental interference with dragonkind. No one exhibits emotion not covered in the brooding, hormonally imbalanced, teenage "in love", teenage "looking for gossip", teenage self-absorption character manual.
It might work for a set of readers but again I'm not sure to whom the book is aimed. In any case, I won't continue the series.

The Heroin became annoying.
The first book was better but this book just turned me off. As the Heroin became stronger the Hero became weaker. It just felt like a book written by an angry woman trying to prove she is better than a man. She didn't seem to have much empathy like the story kept trying to tell you she had. The Hero became pathetic... constantly apologizing and hiding things. Not the type of characters I could respect.

I totally binged this book in one day. I actually wished it was longer - there was a lot of potentially awesome scenes that could have been expanded upon. A tad predictable, but I'm not going to let that stop me from getting #3. No sex, and very little, mild swearing.

I’m not saying my writing is the best, or that my grammar is perfect, but there were quite a few mistakes that were missed in this book. The first in the series had a few as well but no where near as many.
I feel like some parts of the story were rushed while others drug on. I must add that if you are not a cliffhanger lover than you probably should steer clear of these books as I seems to be the authors thing.
With all of that being said, I rather do enjoy the story and look forward to continuing the journey with the third installment.

In this book we see how Aspen manages to earn her place as dragon queen but leaves us with too many questions about the future of the race.
Consider the council's tests exaggerated, they are done so that they are not won by anyone.

The second book in the series was better than the first! We come in not too long after the cliffhanger of book one. Aspen and Sid quickly realize that the dragon killer is still alive and causing chaos. In the meantime, small quests, then larger quests fill the rest of the book. The ease of the quests was probably the worst part of the book. Even when they didn't get what they needed on one quest, what they needed would just fall into their lap at just the opportune time not long after. Then Aspen is trapped in a quest without Sid and is facing certain death. But every single task is ridiculously easy, yet everyone is so impressed... on to book three... there be a war a brewing.

This book feels to explain much more in the dragon world and their ways. We get to learn more on the different species of dragons and what their gifts are. We even get a look into the Queen's position and her test. I liked learning these details as it feels to flesh out the world more.

È un libro sempliciotto.
Peccato perché l'idea è carina, davvero, e forse leggerò il sequel per capire come va a finire, ma sono tre stelle molto molto stiracchiate.

The story line and plot has so much promise but I feel like the author either doesn’t have the capabilities to take the book to its full extent or the book has been rushed in order to be released. Either way the book deserves much more time to develop everything before it was released.
I really like the dragon aspect and the premise of the book.
I wasn’t able to connect with the character as they were very undeveloped and often unfeeling. They recovered from major events very quickly and considering the lives of the main characters weee meant to be at risk for the whole book, they didn’t really act accordingly. Nor did they try and stay hidden very well and shared their secrets very easily.
The book also has no place descriptions. In this book we get to see a few new places and dragons breeds but not much is described about them other then if they’re big or small and what colour they are. This meant the book read quickly which was a positive I suppose but also meant I wasn’t really imagining the places as I should have been and everywhere seemed the same in my imagination.
The tasks that Aspen has to complete are constantly referred to as dangerous and deadly but when the tasks actually came round they seemed a lot easier and I felt like I was just reading the tasks to get through them rather than reading to connect with the tasks and the differulties aspen faced. Also I feel like the author treated the tasks poorly by showing most of them from Sids view point rather than Aspens considering she was the one facing them and we could have had a chance to truly connect and feel for her.
I just feel like a lot of this book and the first book has a lot of telling but not a lot of showing. We’re told often that Aspen is strong, special, different, adventurous etc but this is never really shown apart from every once in a while where she speaks up and is head strong but these are out of place and feel like they’re forced into the story rather than being a natural reaction.
The book also had several grammatical and spelling mistakes. Also the book failed to use proper page breaks which was annoying. This meant that when a character went to sleep or passed out etc on the next line it would start “Aspen awoke..” or similar. It would have been a nicer reading experience if there was a gap, even if it was just a new paragraph or an indent or something to show a gap in time.
Additionally the reveal at the end was very obvious through both the first book and this one. I don’t know if the author meant for the reveal in this book to be shocking but it was so painfully obvious that it’s almost insulting to write it in as a shock attempt factor. The cliff hanger at the end of this book was similar to that at the end of the first one. When I started this one I was somewhat concerned for Aspen due to the first cliffhanger but was annoyed when the first chapter was written to hint she was dead and did a very “sit com” style reveal that she’s actually fine. Due to this I’m not worried at all for the character involved in the cliffhanger as I feel like it’ll probably just happen the same way in the next book.
Overall the idea, plot and storyline is really good but the wiring abilities lacked throughout. The characters need to be more developed, better relationships and more realistic. More descriptions and a better attempt to cover the “bad-guy” so the reveal is better. The book feels more that an early draft Rather than a finished released book. If these things had been worked on more the book could have quite easily have reached 4-5 stars potentially. Alternatively the book should be advertised towards younger readers. I realise it’s a YA book anyway but this is an easy read, especially for a YA.
I will most likely read the next book in the series just to give it one last chance but I expect to be annoyed by these concerns in the next one but I am willing to give it one last chance, we’ll have to see how it goes from there. Hopefully it improves.

Ahhhhhh you guys! If you've come here right after reading Obsidian, I won't be spoiling anything for you, so never fear!
But holy SMOKES. What a freaking crazy wild ride with this book. I obviously don't want to give anything away but I'm pretty sure I read this faster than I did Obsidian, lol, and that's saying something! Normally if I'm reading a series, I don't read the next book until I've already finished writing my review for the previous one. You know, I don't want to confuse either book and I definitely don't want to give anything away.
Well..I didn't wait to do that. I wasn't able to stop myself. And while I had every intention to write this review BEFORE starting book #3 (which is titled Valentine) I just couldn't do it! Valentine was calling to me and well..yeah I just answered that call and started it immediately! I already know that I'm going to be burning the midnight oil to finish this series because it feels like I won't be able to take a full deep breath until I've completed it. It's killing me! I have to know everything. I HAVE TO! Lol Okay that's a touch dramatic, but it is what it is! ;)
Anyway. Okay, hmm. What can I say that won't give anything away..not much really..because SO much happens.
Side note - UGH how much do we all love Rowan? I freaking love his face! I hope we get to see more of him soon. And by see, I mean things from his POV (obviously!)

But holy SMOKES. What a freaking crazy wild ride with this book. I obviously don't want to give anything away but I'm pretty sure I read this faster than I did Obsidian, lol, and that's saying something! Normally if I'm reading a series, I don't read the next book until I've already finished writing my review for the previous one. You know, I don't want to confuse either book and I definitely don't want to give anything away.
Well..I didn't wait to do that. I wasn't able to stop myself. And while I had every intention to write this review BEFORE starting book #3 (which is titled Valentine) I just couldn't do it! Valentine was calling to me and well..yeah I just answered that call and started it immediately! I already know that I'm going to be burning the midnight oil to finish this series because it feels like I won't be able to take a full deep breath until I've completed it. It's killing me! I have to know everything. I HAVE TO! Lol Okay that's a touch dramatic, but it is what it is! ;)
Anyway. Okay, hmm. What can I say that won't give anything away..not much really..because SO much happens.
Side note - UGH how much do we all love Rowan? I freaking love his face! I hope we get to see more of him soon. And by see, I mean things from his POV (obviously!)

Buongiorno, oggi il blog partecipa al review per il secondo libro della serie The Dragons Kings, Aspen di Kimberly Loth, edito dalla casa editrice Queen Edizioni.
Il libro è il secondo di una serie composta da:
1. Obsidian, 25 febbraio 2021
2. Aspen, 22 luglio 2021.
e spero ardentemente che la casa editrice traduca e pubblichi il resto dei libri legati a questi.
Ma iniziamo come sempre dalla trama.
TRAMA - Giunse la morte con uno scatto delle fauci… e di colpo tutto cambiò.
Sid pensava che, con la morte di Marcellus, le uccisioni sarebbero terminate.
Ma si sbagliava.
Sconvolto dalla perdita di chi lo circonda, Sid parte, non soltanto per vendicare la morte dei propri cari, ma anche per trovare il modo di mettersi in salvo.
Ma più si avvicina alle risposte, più mette in pericolo altre persone.
Soltanto Sid ha il potere di porre fine al regno dell’uccisore. Anche se potrebbe dover rinunciare alla sola cosa a cui tiene.
Ma c’è una domanda che necessita una risposta, un quesito che tutti continuano a porsi: Aspen è ancora viva?
Questo secondo volume inizia dalla fine del primo: la città è nuovamente riunita intorno al dolore scatenato dall’ennesima morte provocata da un drago nel parco di Yellowstone.
Ha un ritmo incalzante che cresce velocemente e mantiene con il fiato sospeso il lettore fino alla fine. È complicato riuscire a fare una recensione senza spoilerare, perciò ho pensato di dirvi qualcosina solo per farvi ingolosire, ma mi concentrerò soprattutto su quello che mi ha lasciato Aspen.
Come già sapete, si tratta di uno urban fantasy YA. Rispetto a Obsidian ho trovato la parte dello young adult meno predominante rispetto al fantasy dato dal mondo dei draghi. Le loro usanze, le leggende, i tradimenti, gli amori, il loro codice di comportamento qui viene spiegato in modo più approfondito
“[...] due metà di un tutto. Un rapporto unisce due draghi, affinché diventino letteralmente la stessa anima.”
Il re dei draghi, riprende la ricerca spasmodica dell’assassino e nel frattempo nelle sembianze di umano continua a frequentare la scuola.
La coppia deve proteggere il loro amore e cercare di correre contro il tempo per evitare di essere uccisi dal consiglio in quanto Sid e Aspen si sono innamorati e legati prima ancora che lei si dimostri la regina
“Un re è tanto forte in proporzione alla forza della sua regina.”
Così Aspen decide di affrontare il consiglio dei draghi (uno per ogni specie) affermando di voler stare al fianco del suo Obsidian. Per dimostrare ciò deve affrontare sotto agli occhi del suo amato delle prove dure e crudeli che colpiscono sia a livello fisico che mentale. A voi scoprire il tutto perdendovi tra le pagine di questa storia.
Non ho usato a caso il termine ‘perdervi’, perché è questo che ho provato. Fin dalle prime battute l’autrice mi ha riportata in mezzo al verde lussureggiante, in volo sulla schiena di Obsidian sentendo il suo calore sprigionarsi e propagarsi, al cospetto di draghi diversi – ognuno con le proprie caratteristiche – che raccontano le proprie storie.
L’umanità donata a questi esseri ha qualcosa che ti trascina, coinvolge.
Ho percepito lo scorrere del tempo, i pericoli, l’ansia. Lo smarrimento e il dolore della madre di Obsidian.
Altra cosa che mi piace da morire è il legame eterno che unisce due draghi per l’eternità, il modo in cui viene descritto, in cui viene vissuto: sentirsi fondere con l’anima dell’altro, sentire i suoi pensieri, le emozioni
“I ricordi di lui divennero anche i suoi.”
Il conoscere l’altro e diventare una cosa unica non è un modo di dire, ma reale quasi tangibile.
In questo secondo volume i personaggi mostrano una crescita interiore fatta di scelte, di sacrifici. Si donano l’un l’altro. Una è la forza dell’altro, pronti a combattere pur di sopravvivere e poter vivere quell’amore profondo che li unisce. Qui troviamo un Sid/Obsidian consapevole del dover governare, dei suoi doveri ereditati, e una Aspen che mostra la sua forza e determinazione.
L’ingresso dei personaggi secondari che diventano parte non più marginale della narrazione chiarendo alcuni aspetti del mondo dei draghi – bella l’idea della leggenda dei tre re narrata come favola della buonanotte – e dando vita a una storia intensa.
Cosa mi ha lasciato Aspen? Beh, oltre alla voglia di leggere gli altri volumi – sono pronta a pregare la Queen per portarli in Italia –, mi sono rimasti i sentimenti provati dai personaggi: il loro amore travolgente, il loro far squadra contro chi li vuole vedere divisi, ma anche il dolore – intenso, sconvolgente della perdita di chi si ama –, il coraggio, l’essere esiliato lontano dalla propria famiglia. E tanto, tanto altro.
Nota di colore, in tutti i sensi, è il drago sotterraneo Runa, la amerete: lei così fresca, travolgente, posa sulle labbra del lettore un sorriso che rimane impresso ad ogni scena che la vede protagonista. Un drago caratterizzato dal suo mutare colore ogni volta che si posa o osserva un colore. Lei è un po’ una bambina, il suo buttarsi in picchiata nella metrata di neve perché si diverte e non l’ha mai vista, ti fa ridere.
Ringrazio la Queen Edizioni che mi ha dato la possibilità di leggere anche questo capitolo e avviso che sono pronta al prossimo.

I enjoyed the series, but the first book was definitely my favorite. The third book felt like a lot of repeat from the first book, just with different characters.

Ho iniziato a leggere questa saga non sapendo bene cosa aspettarmi ma con molta aspettativa. In quel periodo, e sinceramente ce l'ho ancora un po' anche adesso, avevo voglia di lupi mannari e/o mutaforma e questa saga mi sembrava adatta.
I protagonisti sono Obsidian, conosciuto anche come Sid, e Aspen. Lui sarà il prossimo re dei draghi lei ama i draghi e non è terrorizzata come tutti. Perché ebbene sì, il mondo è a conoscenza dell'esistenza dei draghi ma non è a conoscenza del fatto che siano mutaforma.
Sia Sid che aspen mi sono piaciuti molto. Hanno entrambi un carattere molto forte, anche se alcune volte ho pensato che più che coraggiosa Aspen, alcune volte, fosse un po' folle. Proprio per questo però lo amata anche di più.
Leggendo il primo capitolo ho provato pena per Sid perché si vede che lui non la vuole quella vita e mi spiace anche di più per lui quando conosce Aspen e vede l'odio che ha nei suoi confronti, anche se all'inizio sembra senza senso. Beh, sembra un odio senza senso, almeno per lui, perché noi leggendo il punto di vista di Aspen capiamo che viene tutto dal passato. Un passato che scopriamo poco a poco. Un passato che si può intuire ma che comunque quando viene rivelato sconvolge.
La loro storia mi è piaciuta molto. Inizia con molto odio e piano piano, grazie all'impegno di Sid, le cose tra loro migliorano. Certo Sid si deve impegnare moltissimo perché Aspen inizi a dargli un minimo di fiducia. Però quando finalmente vede sono davvero bello insieme. Si completano e si appoggiano, anche quando la situazione è molto difficile.
Oltre alla parte romance ho apprezzato molto la storia che c'è intorno. Il fatto che ci sia un drago che sta seminando panico mi ha tenuta con il fiato sospeso. Anche se ammetto che avevo i miei sospetti, che sono aumentati nel secondo volume, e nell'epilogo hanno trovato conferma. Quindi non so se sono stata molto brava a capire, anche se non credo, o se fosse facilmente intuibile, cosa che ritengo più probabile.
Ma ciò che mi è piaciuto di più è il fatto che Sid sia il futuro re e che Aspen non sia contemplata nel suo futuro e ciò che fanno per evitare il destino di Sid. Ciò che poi viene fatto nel secondo volume, oltre ad essermi piaciuto molto perché rende più eccitante la storia, ci permette di conoscere meglio i draghi e come si suddividono, perché non sono tutti uguali. E dimostra come Obsidian lotti per le persone che ama.
Ho apprezzato anche gli altri personaggi della storia, ovviamente non tutti ma la maggior parte sì.
Rowan, il fratello di Aspen, all'inizio non sono riuscita a inquadrarlo ma poi mi è piaciuto moltissimo. È una persona molto tenera e dolce, merita tutta la felicità del mondo. Soprattutto perché è una persona molto più forte e coraggiosa di quanto pensi.
Theo, l'amico e guardia di Sid, mi è piaciuto ma in lui c'è sempre stato qualcosa che non mi convinceva e sinceramente ho bisogno del terzo volume perché vorrei davvero capire cosa gli passi per il cervello. Le sue scelte non mi sono affatto chiare.
Skye mi ha fatto pena, poi l'ho odiata e poi l'ho amata. È una amica meravigliosa da avere accanto. Riesce a far sentire a proprio agio chiunque e farebbe qualunque cosa per le persone a cui tiene. Però c’è stato un momento in cui avrei voluto staccarle la testa.
Pearl, la sorella di Sid, è stata molto difficile da accettare. Il suo modo di fare mi ha dato sui nervi e praticamente solo verso la fine del secondo volume sono riuscita a farmela piacere. Tutto quello che fa lo fa per il bene del fratello ma anche della "corona".
L'autrice è molto brava a creare suspense e colpi di scena, soprattuto con i finali. Il finale del primo volume mi ha sconvolta, per questo ho iniziato subito il secondo volume. Il primo capitolo del secondo volume è anche stato più sconvolgente. L'autrice è stata bravissima a giocare con le parole e con la scena per non farmi capire nulla fino all'ultimo.
Lo stile è molto scorrevole e il mondo da lei creato è ricco di dettagli e mi hanno incuriosita molto. Il secondo volume mi è piaciuto più del primo perché l'ho trovato più approfondito e con più dettagli. Ho trovato anche ci fosse più azione e suspense.
Spero che la casa editrice decida di tradurre anche i seguiti perché sono molto curiosa di scoprire cosa accadrà dato il finale del secondo volume.

Aspen Di Kimberly Loth è un romanzo dai ritmi molto veloci. Aspen e suo fratello Rowan sono ospiti a casa di Sid dato che gli attacchi del drago assassino sono troppo frequenti e il parco nazionale è chiuso. I due non sono voluti partire ma abilmente si sono rifugiati a casa del re dei draghi anche perché Aspen e Sid devono risolvere il casino in cui si sono cacciati. I due infatti sono legati e il marchio che hanno addosso conferma la loro unione ma se il consiglio lo venisse a scoprire sarebbe morte certa.
I problemi quindi sono davvero tanti per la giovane e frizzante coppietta, primi fra tutti i genitori di Sid, soprattutto sua madre, che sarebbe capace di staccare la testa in un baleno alla povera Aspen che gli ha portato via il suo bambino!
In Aspen effettivamente è lei la protagonista del capitolo, è lei che si ritrova ad affrontare varie situazioni scomode e pericolosissime per salvare Sid e per onorare i draghi che sin da piccola l’hanno affascinata.
Il cammino che Sid e Aspen fanno insieme è davvero tortuoso ma porta i due a fare delle scelte mature e consapevoli, per un destino comune, pericoloso ma allo stesso tempo l’unico che potrebbero avere insieme.
Nonostante la sua giovane età Aspen si rivela davvero speciale, la sua vita è in procinto di cambiare radicalmente ma lei sa bene che quello è il suo destino e lo accetta nonostante Sid si opponga totalmente a questa scelta estrema e quando tutto sembra finalmente avere un senso…
I problemi quindi sono davvero tanti per la giovane e frizzante coppietta, primi fra tutti i genitori di Sid, soprattutto sua madre, che sarebbe capace di staccare la testa in un baleno alla povera Aspen che gli ha portato via il suo bambino!

Secondo volume della serie edito Queen Edizioni.
Mentre nel primo abbiamo Obsidian, re dei draghi, che nelle vesti umane di Sid, si integra nella quotidianità di Aspen, ora troviamo la giovane ragazza che al contrario conoscerà meglio il mondo di lui.
Molte risposte sul Consiglio dei draghi e le loro culture. Inoltre ci sono varie razze, con vari poteri e abitudini differenti. Una lotta contro al tempo e nel mondo, per incontrare ognuno di loro, se vogliono salvare la vita dei due innamorati.
Oltre a questo, non dimentichiamo che esiste sempre un drago che va in giro ad ammazzare umani e altri draghi. Chi è?
Gli umani sono già pronti a schierare le forze armate per difendersi… basta un cenno e saranno pronti ad agire.
Ovviamente vi sto raccontando a grandi linee, perché gli spoiler sono dietro l’angolo e non posso rivelare molto.
Un romanzo veloce, con una scrittura incalzante. Non è difficile entrare nella storia e nelle abitudini dei draghi, che tanto affascinano e tanto spaventano. Eppure sono molto simili a noi…
Non finirà qui. Ancora ne avremo da vedere e da vivere con il prossimo volume.
Sono molto belli anche i personaggi secondari. Così come nel primo sono ben descritti psicologicamente. Anche il fratello di Aspen, Rowan, ora inizierà a uscire dal suo guscio e cercherà di affrontare le sue paure. Ci riuscirà?

Mentre nel primo abbiamo Obsidian, re dei draghi, che nelle vesti umane di Sid, si integra nella quotidianità di Aspen, ora troviamo la giovane ragazza che al contrario conoscerà meglio il mondo di lui.
Molte risposte sul Consiglio dei draghi e le loro culture. Inoltre ci sono varie razze, con vari poteri e abitudini differenti. Una lotta contro al tempo e nel mondo, per incontrare ognuno di loro, se vogliono salvare la vita dei due innamorati.
Oltre a questo, non dimentichiamo che esiste sempre un drago che va in giro ad ammazzare umani e altri draghi. Chi è?
Gli umani sono già pronti a schierare le forze armate per difendersi… basta un cenno e saranno pronti ad agire.
Ovviamente vi sto raccontando a grandi linee, perché gli spoiler sono dietro l’angolo e non posso rivelare molto.
Un romanzo veloce, con una scrittura incalzante. Non è difficile entrare nella storia e nelle abitudini dei draghi, che tanto affascinano e tanto spaventano. Eppure sono molto simili a noi…
Non finirà qui. Ancora ne avremo da vedere e da vivere con il prossimo volume.
Sono molto belli anche i personaggi secondari. Così come nel primo sono ben descritti psicologicamente. Anche il fratello di Aspen, Rowan, ora inizierà a uscire dal suo guscio e cercherà di affrontare le sue paure. Ci riuscirà?

Cari lettori, tempo fa vi avevo parlato di "Obsidian", il primo volume della serie "The Dragon Kings' di Kimberly Loth, oggi sono qui per parlarvi del secondo volume, "Aspen".
L'amore tra Aspen e Obsidian continua, nonostante lui le nasconda dei segreti riguardanti le tradizioni e la magia dei draghi. La loro storia non potrebbe mai essere accettata dal consiglio e trovare una scappatoia potrebbe essere la soluzione.
Un drago e un'umana, un legame che rischia di indebolire Obsidian nel suo ruolo di re, e un re debole non potrebbe mai governare.
Ma mentre loro cercano di far funzionare il tutto, qualcuno trama vendetta ed è sempre un passo avanti a loro, qualunque cosa facciano.
Il primo volume mi aveva entusiasmata in modo pazzesco, perciò avevo aspettative davvero alte su questo secondo volume che mi è piaciuto moltissimo, anche se non ai livelli di "Obsidian", forse perché stavolta qualche dettaglio mi ha un po' confusa. Ma nel complesso la storia è davvero bella e non vedo l'ora di leggere i prossimi volumi.
Tra le cose che mi sono piaciute in modo particolare c'è sicuramente l'evoluzione del personaggio di Aspen che è diventata più consapevole, prende in mano le situazioni, ed è impavida e coraggiosa.
Lo stile dell'autrice è accattivante, magnetico e travolgente.
Non so quando potremo scoprire come continua la serie, ma nel frattempo vi consiglio di tuffarvi in questa avventura.

I still don't love the the main characters, though they are growing on me a little. On the other hand, I do actually like most the supporting characters and it was nice to get that a few got more page time in this one. I am getting pretty tired of Theo but that's to be expected.
It's still a YA and they're still moody Mary Sues, but I will get a tiny bit defensive of them after reading some other reviews - they may be teenagers and college kids, but I don't agree that they aren't up to snuff being put in charge of some of pretty big decisions - read even a little history and you will see exactly what a group of young adults are capable of. They have fought in wars and started activist movements. They have marched, they have protested, and many have given their lives for what they believe in - and thats coming from a jaded, 40 year old spinster who doesn't have patience for teenage dramas; I never once believed they weren't a force to be reckoned with when they put their mind to something.
In my opinion, if anyone showed incompetence on the leadership front, it was the brief scene with the President of the United States... Anyone who needs a TEENAGER to tell her not to make rash or impulsive decisions is not really someone I would want running the county.

I don’t think I have it in me to continue the series, unfortunately. There just wasn’t a lot there that hooked me in and kept me engaged. The dragon / shifter shenanigans was interesting, definitely, and I love me a good dragon / shifter storyline, but the rest was lacking that even the dragon / shifter storyline couldn’t keep me going with the rest of the books.
Practically zero spice. If you were lured in by some FB/Instagram ad that had the odd “steamy” line, it was a lie.
Dialogue felt clunky and didn’t read right a lot of the time. There was also little respect toward the PTSD aspect of the MFC being r*ped.
I saw another review for the first book that said the dragon character is 500 and some years old and yet he acts like a teenager.
Honestly, I just wish a lot of the authors of these genres would stop writing lead female characters who are 17-21 that read as mary sues. Break away from that age group, break away from the whole they’re in their last year of high school and inexperienced blah blah and suddenly they’re in the middle of a prophecy, suddenly they know and can do everything blahblah.

I didn’t like it as much as the first one. Some parts of the dialogue felt childish and the teenage drama was over the top for me. The story was a little rush and things seems way too easy for Aspen.
Pearl, Sid older sister decide that him & Aspen should not be together since this is a death sentence for the Dragon King. Skye, Sid ex came to school as a human and create trouble. Aspen, as a perfect annoying YA heroine, overreact without letting her boyfriend a chance to explain himself. They finally come up with a arrangement and pretend to break up, to keep their seal connection a secret.
There is also the problem of the golden dragon who eat people that is still not resolve and pending in the background. There are things more important happening, like Sid trying to create his own dragon Council since he commit treason against the original one.
There is a bunch of new characters throw in there, who are not well develop.
End with a cliffhanger, again…. Not great literature but still a fun series and quite enjoyable. I want more dragons and less teen drama please !
