Mysteries of Time and Space

Rate this book
“A little over four decades ago… a monumental literary classic entitled MYSTERIES OF TIME AND SPACE was first published. Its author, the prolific, legendary, not to mention one of the most tireless, pioneering investigative journalists in the ‘truth is out there’ field of all things unexplained, is the one and only Brad Steiger. Steiger has compiled in this book a truly comprehensive catalogue of some of the most perplexing, thought-provoking cases ever documented. Even after all of these years, here is a book that still remains not only an enduring classic but also still a source of valuable and relevant information and insight. This is an extraordinary tome by an extraordinary author who has, through the years, delved deeply into a wide range of some of the most remarkable, chilling and riveting case histories and accounts of the unexplained. There’s nothing obsolete, passé, or ‘old hat’ about MYSTERIES OF TIME AND SPACE. It continues to stand as a thought-provoking landmark classic, and what can you expect from an author who has either authored or co-authored some 181 books to date, with over 17 million copies in print?” — Brent Raynes, Alternate Perceptions

Too real to be strange -- too strange to be forgotten -- the original and still the greatest -- step into the gap between fact and imaginaton with Mr. Dynamite himself, Brad Steiger!!!!!!

I remember the summer of 75, this book was all any 11 year old would talk about. I remember me and my peeps, Double-Loaded and Shooter, how we would stay up late on our front steps finger-popping till 3 AM eveyr morning, talking about the strange, unexplained mysteries like . . .

Ever wonder why torrents of frogs and fish suddenly fall from the sky for no reason?

Why were thousands of car windshields fractured in a single night?

How did man-made iron crosses emerge from a pit millions of years old?

Do the people of Atlantis still live underwater, and do they pull people under to live forever in their fabulous palaces?

I picked this up off a shelf in a Swiss mountain hut while working as a Pastore in 1999. According to my journal it was 20th of July and I read it in one sitting. The cows were behaving and there was little else to do.
It sounded like I enjoyed it. I loved Brad's daring predictions from 1974. I especially liked his writings on how important it is to be childlike and not childish. That it's important to realise you can fashion reality.

I was also pretty stoned on that particular day and this might have assisted in my appreciation of his book. For that reason I have given it 4 stars.

More mysterious happenings to explore
10 February 2012

There is probably little difference to the previous book that I recently commented on, namely Mysteries from Forgotten Worlds. It is similar, but not exactly the same, because in this book we are looking at mysteries that extend beyond the search for an ancient civilisations. However it does look at the standard fare of strange things of our world, including Atlantis (so many people seem to get caught up on this), unidentified flying objects, and pretty much all of the other fabulous mysteries that we have kept us awake for many sleepless nights.
I feel that I have probably already said quite a lot regarding Atlantis elsewhere, so there is probably not much for me to add at this stage. As for UFOs, this really does seem to be a very modern phenomena, though I suspect that in the past the reason that we did not consider UFOs in the same way that we do now is because it is only within the past 150 years that people have begun to take space travel seriously.
I think I might write a bit on UFOs here because this is one of the themes that appears throughout this book; I might also mention these mysterious Men in Black. The truth is we really do not know what exists beyond our planet, let alone our solar system. We has not even scratched the surface of what is actually out there. There could be alien civilisations, and there might not be, we simply do not know. Being a Christian though I do not believe that God does anything without a purpose, and there must be a reason for all of those planets and stars beyond simply creating the necessary balances to make Earth habitable (though the short explanation would be that they are used to tell the time, and for navigation). This is the same position that my Dad, who is a scientist, takes as well.
One of the most convincing arguments that I have read (and yes my beliefs do create a bias) is that these UFOs are not actually alien visitors but rather they are demonic forces sent to deceive us. Some research by Christians (and unfortunately due to the nature of religion, it is generally only Christians who perform this research) have discovered a direct connection between UFO sightings and abductions and participation with the occult. However we must be careful with these results since a lot of these researchers will go out and look for connections that aren't there. However as the human race advances in knowledge, the ways and means that demonic forces act will change to reflect that technology. In an agrarian society they are more likely to masquerade as faeries, ghosts, angels and the like, but once we move away from those roots and become more scientific, faeries and ghosts simply do not work any more (though that is debatable).
Then there are these Men in Black (and I suspect the films that star Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are based on this). Personally, I had never heard of this phenomena prior to reading this book, and in the end, my response is: yeah, whatever. There are an awful lot of secretive government organisations around, even in democracies like America. Truth be told, especially these days, we really do not know whether we are being watched or not. I work in Personal Injury and know that we are always putting claimant's under surveillance. Granted, our operatives are not necessarily suit clad, usually hide in cars, and dress casually, but in my opinion these Men in Black could simply be anybody - not necessarily extra-terrestrial. In short, many of us will want to believe something so badly that we will twist the evidence, and even our own view of reality, to support these beliefs (and I am including myself in that statement).

Just as good today as when published

Brad Steiger's classic book is about reality and much more. It is incredibly hard to put it down once you start, so be forewarned. His writing style is at once accessible and the topics were as varied as they were utterly fascinating. Mr. Steiger covers UFO incidents as well as Bigfoot, poltergeist activity, ghosts, time travel, and a litany of other subjects. It is true that he offers no explanation nor comprehensive or unified theory of what has been happening on this planet of ours for as long as recorded history; however, for those looking for additional pieces of the great puzzle as to who made us and why are we here, it is a must read. I highly recommend this book.

This book is something of a classic in the study of anomalies and "high strangeness." An enjoyable read!
