Enter a world were single mothers get a second chance at happily ever after with Book Two in the Cindermama Series!
In this new spin on an old fairytale, Guy Rumpel’s golden touch could put a wrinkle in Midori Miller’s designs.
Former model, Midori Miller, left the fashion world in disgrace and now lives quietly as a small town dressmaker and single mom. When her talented daughter catches the ear of a New York record producer, the last thing Midori wants is to return to the harsh glare of the spotlight. Caught between the producer’s charms, her daughter’s dreams, and her own new chance at success, Midori isn’t sure she can design the right path for herself or her family, especially when the producer makes a play for her heart.
After a string of flops, producer Guy Rumpel believes he’s lost his golden touch. He needs to turn his career around with a hit record, and the young songbird from his hometown just may be the key. But when his family’s gift for finding their one true love shines its light on Midori, he’ll have to convince her to make the deal of a lifetime.

This book was boring and I struggled to get through. I had it on my currently reading list for 4/5 years and I decided I was going to trudge through.
It was unfortunately as boring as I recalled and I just wanted it over and done. The characters were boring and unappealing and I could care less about whether or not they ended up together.
I didn’t feel the chemistry from either of them and Midori was just annoying with her ‘this terrible thing happened to me so I’m going to control my child’s life and keep her guarded from opportunities that could benefit her.’ Reading about how she doesn’t want herself or her daughter being thrusted into the spotlight became so repetitive and exhausted. I actually started rolling my eyes when it was mentioned… for the 50-11 time for the story. We get it.
Guy was supposedly this hot shot A&E for some big time NY company with women throwing themselves at him; but I just couldn’t see it. He never once gave me the hots for his character.
I hate that completing this book felt more like a chore than anything because I like the cover. Now that it’s over, I sigh with relief.
Midori had her dream job, a man she loved, who she thought loved her, until she told him she was pregnant and found out he was married, leaving her industry in disgrace, broken hearted, but now knowing men can't be trusted. Guy had the gift, not completely like him other family members, he hadn't seen the glow of love, but he had a gift for talent, and until a year ago when he was cursed, he could pick them all, but now, since the curse, he'd made a lot of mistakes, until he met Midori and her daughter Kimmei. Every time he sees Midori, her glow grows, and Guy is starting to realize, it's not just talent, he's in love, but he's been outwardly dating one of his stars, Agave, to protect her.
I had loved Pumpkin, and was wondering how Ines was going to do a better job, but she exceeded my expectations, I loved Rumpled, once again the characters were brilliantly written, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who lived to hate Phancy. I can't wait for Beau.
This is one of my favorite authors. I love her and for one, the way she employs humor in her books and secondly, for her ability to deliver a riveting fairy tale with a modern twist. She's just the best. I will say however that I enjoyed the first book in this series a bit more than I did this one although I still recommend it highly.
Adequate, but missed a spark for me. Wedding dress designer meets magic man with limp dick. Must admit, it took courage to do a romance novel featuring a male hero with erectile dysfunction due to diabetes. Did like how the author approached his problem, but some of the other deus ex machina was just too contrived.
Rumpeled is book 2 in Ines Johnson's Cindermama series, which is the story of Guy Rumpel, a music producer with a golden touch, who sees musical talent beyond what other eyes can see. However, his third eye seems to be failing him recently. It all changes when he finds an "under-dressed" Midori Miller in his hotel room. This chance encounter rekindles not only his 'sight' but his libido!
But Midori runs and they both think that's the end of it. However, a family reunion leads to another chance--no, fated--encounter. Guy hears Midori's daughter sing, and knows she has true talent, but convincing Midori isn't a walk in the park.
As a single mother who's been hurt by life and love, Midori is determined to protect her heart and shield her daughter from the world. Her safe existence is threatened when Guy becomes interested in representing her daughter professionally and seeing Midori privately ;-)
I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Guy and Midori - both cautious, for their own reasons, about taking a chance at love/relationship. Ines Johnson makes a daring move by giving her hero a weakness most authors wouldn't approach with a ten-foot pole, but she does it, and it makes her hero so darn likable!
I want to clap for Ms. Johnson. This is the second book I have read from her and I’m in love with her writing style. Funny, touching, romantic, and realistic (for a paranormal- fairy tale). I could really relate to the characters. She makes the concept of happily-ever-after seem possible and that’s always a good thing when it comes to romance.
Guy isn’t your typical romance hero, and my mouth gaped open when he was described by one of the other characters. The description flowed with the story line and in the end it made things even clearer about him. Midori is an amazing character. She’s strong, a great mother (her daughter is fantastic in her own right), and a talented fashion designer who needs to get her big break. A wonderful heroine all around.
I have already bought the third book in the series and am looking forward to reading it, even though there is a conflict in there that I’m not sure how Ms. Johnson will resolve it. Intriguing.
I found this book for free on Amazon via Bookbub. Worth 2.5 stars rounded down. Confusing: the last conversation with Pumpkin is about room service and other stuff but they are at home and the doctor being more upset about the TD2 than his stroke?. Predictable; certainly no surprises about Phancy - but that's just one thing. Many aspects are like the previous book (someone else took credit, already in a relationship but not telling - Pumpkin had the gall to say she didn't think he'd be that guy when she did the same to Manny...). No chemistry between the characters - that wet dream should have been hot, it wasn't, it was yuck. A bit too many repeats about what Midori's thoughts, the child's goal in life, and Rumpelstiltskin losing his golden touch. Editing needs another pass- seriously.
The love story of Guy and Midori. Guy Rumpeled could turn brass to gold in the music world. A year ago the meet a woman who curse him because he told her she had no talent and he would not make her a star. Then Guy meet Midori, a single mother and fashion designer who has a daughter that sing like a angle. Guy see the gold aura on Midori and his life change. Can he break the curse with love or will the curse end him? OK story.
I enjoyed this new take on Rumpelstiltskin. I loved the author's ability to develop the characters' backstory. I wish the names were different but once you get passed those ridiculous monikers you find a story of love triumphant over all. I hope she continues the story. It would be good ti see what happens to the golden family.
So it took me FOREVER to get through this book for some odd reason. I started and stopped on multiple occasions but set my mind to sit without distractions finally and found that I enjoyed the read. I especially appreciated that the "drama" between Guy and Midori wasn't actually dragged out like in some novels. Their chemistry was undeniable even if neither was ready for it.
I lived this book it had everything in it man meets woman, woman wants to love man but was hurt, then man convince woman to take a chance on love with him a love story in the making.
It was good. Some of the characters were off the chain. I could not stand Phancy. I loved the development of the relationship between Guy, Midori and the little jazz singer, lol. I like how the author brings to light heart disease, diabetes, and ED, things that need discussion without shame and blame. I always want more though, I'm greedy.
This book was not what I expected coming from Ines Johnson. It was wonderful just the same! This book is what dreams are made of, a modern day fairytale. Just what I needed to lift my spirits. Loved it! I will definitely be reading the rest of this series.
I liked the characters in this serial of the Cindemama series, Midori personality did not send me off on the rector scale on a torrid rant, no hidden agenda or nasty attributes, she was a down to earth woman who made a grave mistake in trusting the wrong people in her early years of growing up and then hid herself from anyone that could harm her or her daughter, which is understandable when you make a mistake of trusting the wrong people, but she got a 2nd chance with love and career. I love Guy the hero in this storyline, Ines Johnson did not make Guy the typical fit abs model body type that you find in these contemporary romance books which is very refreshing and it felt like a realistic love story if you don't take into account of the mushy stuff that rips like a faucet from the two main characters mouth but that's at the end of the book, thank goodness. Enjoyable read and a more realistic pov plot that I have read in a long time. It was good to read about Guy's coyness regarding not taking sexual advantage towards Midori another difference in this plot. Hopefully Ines Johnson will write another instalment of this couple's future escapade, it would be nice to read about their wedding, if they relocated or stayed setting up where the rest of the family is located, if Guy managed to maintain a healthy lifestyle, getting his body back in shape and their careers that has now become self-employed/independent.
This was an interesting way to meet the man that was to be your future. Former model, Midori Miller, was a wedding dress designer and happens to be in the room that Rumpel was to have for the night. Never ever suspecting this man would change her world forever.
Guy Rumpel was the modern day man with the golden touch for the music industry. He luck changed and now he was in needed of the next big thing. He never imagined that it would all hinge on the beauty from the hotel suite.
Sense & Sensuality: Fun to read on many levels, seductive even. A true relationship always surprises both participants, and this leads to the slow reveal that draws the reader into this charming story. I enjoyed the unique and subtle teaching about Type II diabetes - a masterstroke. Paul dragonfly
Branched away from my norm...not sure I will again. Too explicit for me in intimate scenes. Overall, it was an interesting story, though. The idea of seeing auras is interesting.
I recommend this book to those who are looking for a good, quick read without raunchy love scenes. This story was well developed and the chemistry between the two main characters was realistic. Supporting characters didn't overwhelm the plot and each of them fit into the story nicely. Worth your time and money!
