Dragons of Eternity #2

Scorched by Darkness

Rate this book
Book 2 in the USA Today Bestselling series, The Dragons of Eternity

As a half-breed dragon, Torque never had the luxury of choosing his future. Not only did his father barter him to the highest bidder, but a rare Shinto fey claimed to see him in a vision that involved recovering a lost treasure for the powerful dragon, Synge. A destiny that might have been bearable if the vision hadn’t included a mating with Rya, Synge’s half-breed daughter. Who could blame him for being resigned rather than thrilled with his fate?

Rya had enough of being treated like an unwanted burden by her betrothed. So when she learns her mother is missing, she doesn’t hesitate to leave the harem to try to find her. The last thing she expects is Torque to track her down. Or the explosive chemistry that ignites between them. Now they must work together to discover the dark threat that not only traps her mother, but has the potential to spread evil throughout the world.

I'm not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother's knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library. Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I'm not admitting how many) I'm still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.

I liked this one much more than the first book in the series. There is more than one romance blossoming in this book. Certain elements from Guardians of Eternity was used in this book and even Tane & Laylah from Devoured by Darkness helped with the rescue.

I love these dragons. They are so arrogant. Some of the best romances come from those overly confidant guys being brought to heel by their females. Torque may be a half-breed but he is all dragon at heart. He is loyal to his master Baine. He thrives on being the fiercest warrior possible. He has also accepted his fate as a bartered piece of his dragon father’s horde. As part of that bargain he has been forced to prepare for his duty as betrothed to Synge’s half-breed daughter Rya.

Rya hasn’t been in the presence of her intended since their formal betrothal ceremony fifty years ago. His attitude then and his lack of contact since has more than shown her all she needs to know about his feeling towards her. She knows that he isn’t even remotely interested in their mating. Her Shinto mother’s vision is the only reason that she even has an intended mate. Her father is very interested in finding his missing horde. Synge is willing to barter his daughter to see that it is returned. Needless to say when the opportunity for Rya to leave her father’s harem she doesn’t even have to give it much thought, she’s gone.

A dangerous mixing of magic and a power hungry evil foe keep Rya and Torque in constant perilous danger. It also keeps them in close proximity, something they’ve never had before now. That closeness forces them to realize that there is something for them to explore going on between them. Those sexy discoveries will have to wait though as the trap they have been caught in is volatile and on the verge of collapsing. Scorched by Darkness is sexy, packed with action, and the mystery of what is beneath the ice keeps the pages turning. I’m looking forward to the next Dragons of Eternity book. I’m fascinated by the possibility of who the next couple most likely is.

Meinung:

Enjoyable as always. But it bothered me that Baine and Rya never acknowledged they were half siblings. No one brought it up or even thought it about it.... Thought that was weird.

So weit, so gut. Doch was macht diesen Band so anders als „Flammenküsse“?

„Flammenliebe“ verkörpert nämlich alles, was man an Alexandra Ivys vorangegangenen Romanen geliebt hat.

I felt like Alice from Alice and Wonderland reading this book.

description

So bizzarre. Well constructed madness… I think? I mean none of it really made sense…. But I don’t think it was supposed to? They were in Dragon Dreams… no in-between worlds…. No another world…. No another dimension…. with Ice labyrinths…. and mental Imprints….

description

But again, it was… good. Just bizarre.

I enjoyed Torque… more so than Rya. I didn’t dislike her per se. She could be rather dense sometimes, always running off in a way that was almost callous towards Torque and his feelings. I mean, seriously, RIGHT after they have their HEA moment and Torque is all steam and stern saying, “I want you, forced betrothal or not,” she tries to just run off and play hero without really telling him (b*tch writing a note is not sufficient and we all know it). It just felt weird to have more story... after what would have been a perfectly good end to the story. However, Torque sorting out his mommy issues was a pretty cute moment and it did provide some conclusions to other characters. The general order of it was just a bit off for me.

As expected, Levet was his usual flamboyant, hilarious self causing all sorts of mischief. And I loved it. I also loved seeing more of Tayla & Baine. All the feelings.

“BFF?” the dragon demanded. Levet spread his wings that were not only as delicate as a dew fairy, but shimmered in shades of blue and crimson and gold. “Best friends forever,” he told the mind-boggling powerful dragon. Baine looks momentarily horrified. “We are not friends.”

Im on the fence about this one. Not which plot other than mates trapped in ice together taking way too to get out. Ray and Torque were betrothed years ago and now that's she's grown it's time to make it happen. Finn-a frost Sprite prince people go missing in the ice and everyone goes to help. He meets a Sylvermyst Adair-who I guess is his mate- and they try to free his people. There's also some parent/child reunions and of course the setup for book 3. It was just ok for me because I was kind of bored with the plot, but I do like the pairings. Levet added a little spice like always, but not enough for me to give this more *. I will read book 3 because I like Char and his mysterious, cursed full blooded female dragon Blayze.

Thoroughly enjoying this series!

Normally I don't like it when a book is about 80% about the romance of the characters and 20% about the accrual storyline. But I have to say this time the way both aspects were woven together was fun and intriguing and definitely captivating.

Alexander Ivy is a wonderful author who is an expert, it seems, at weaving a tale in a way that helps you know the characters intimately while still being involved enough in the storyline to have a difficult time putting the book down. Can't wait to go to the next.

So, conclusion is, Very Well Done! Now I'm of to bury myself in Charred by Darkness!

Their futures bound by a vision, their present bound by danger!

Scorched By Darkness is the second book in the Dragons of Eternity and brings us Torque and Rya. Rya is missing and Torque will need to find her before it is too late. With Levet at his side, not by choice he would add the two will find all is not what it seems and when they find Rya his suspicions are confirmed. Can Rya and Torque work together to find the truth and each other or will who they are stand in the way of what could be.

I loved this book and look forward to reading Charred by Darkness next.

Rya and Torque, both half-dragons, are new characters to the series. While I really enjoyed their story and romance I wasn't invested as I was with Baine's story.

The story was interesting but didn't get a little confusing in parts but not so much where it ruined my enjoyment. Overall, this was a good story with a lovely HEA.

Harems don’t belong in mate stories. Talk about tasteless. I don’t care if he’s a god, if there’s another woman, he doesn’t deserve to have a mate. Or a life.

"Scorched by Darkness" by Alexandra Ivy. Book 2 in the Dragons of Eternity series.

This is the first full book of the Dragons of Eternity series and I liked it. The main romantic characters are Torque and Rya. The story line was interesting and well paced.

Torque is a half-breed dragon, half dragon and half fey. He's been betrothed to Rya, also a half-breed dragon, for 100 years and it's now time to complete the mating ceremony. Because of a prophesy Rya's mother had about them helping Synge (Rya's father) find his missing treasure, Torque's life has been planned for him. But it's his duty to mate with Rya, so that's what he'll do. He just didn't expect her to disappear on him right before the mating.

Rya is on a mission to help her friend Finn, prince of the frost sprites, to rescue his missing people. Her mother tried to help Finn and now she's disappeared as well. She knows she's supposed to mate with Torque but she's sure he won't care what she's doing. He hasn't seen her or spoken to her in 50 years. He obviously doesn't really care for her and she doesn't care for him either....even if he's starred in her fantasies. He is a gorgeous male. Rya can't believe that Torque has found her and is insisting he protect her and help her with her mission.

The overall story line of this book was really good. Lots of adventure. Good twists and turns to the plot. Interesting supporting characters. You can read this book as a stand alone but a few of the supporting characters come from the Guardians of Eternity series and a story line from that series is lightly touched on in this book to give you just enough background to understand who the bad guys are in this book. If you haven't read the Guardians of Eternity, that's OK, you'll understand everything in this book just fine. I also enjoyed the sub-romantic plot between Finn and Adair and I really hope they get a book as well. The chemistry between Torque and Rya is a slow simmer throughout the whole book. I was expecting a little more heat between the two them. I liked the growth of their relationship in that Rya doesn't want to settle for a mating of "duty" and Torque has to learn to open up with his feeling for Rya.

Overall, I liked this book. It ends with a teaser ending of who the next couple will be for the next book. I think I will continue reading this series when I want a light romance to read.

Extraordinary!!!

Torque was a half-breed dragon, he never was giving the opportunity to choose his own destiny. Centuries ago his mate was chosen for him by fate, when his mate's mother saw a vision of him. He was given a tough responsible, to recover the lost treasure for a powerful dragon named, Synge.

Torque was given to Synge as payment for his father, Pyre's debt. Now the half-breed was a soldier and friend to Synge's son, Baine. He wasn't looking forward to the day when he would have to complete the betrothal with Rya.

Rya, daughter of a Shinto and a Dragon, and sister to Baine, was also a half-breed. She didn't blamed Torque for feeling the way he did about their mating. Nonetheless she felt hurt by the way he was treating her, as if she was a burden.

Rya hated feeling like she was a torn in her mate's side. When she got news that her mother was missing, she set out to find her on her own. To her surprise, Torque came looking for Rya even though he was hurt to find out that she ran away from the family harem.

Despite their rocky start, Rya and Torque started growing closer as they worked to find her missing mother. The chemistry between them was off the charts.

Loved how Rya didn't care what she had to do to get her mother back, she was willing to risk her life. But Torque wouldn't allow any harm to come to Rya, seeing such strength in her made Torque love her more.

Loved catching up with some old characters from the previous book and getting to know some very interesting new ones. I.E Finn and Adair those two found love amidst the darkness just as Torque and Rya did.

At the end of his quest, Torque found more than what he was looking for. He found the one person, he thought never wanted nor loved him...his mother. The reunion between mother-son was an emotional and enlightening one.

SCORCHED BY DARKNESS was sensational. Alexandra Ivy never fails, she keeps you hooked even after the book ends. You can't helped but wonder when will the next installment be.

Thumbs up and a heck yeah to grabbing yourselves a copy!

The second book in the Dragons of Eternity series will leave you wanting more.

Torque may be a half-breed dragon but that doesn’t make him less dangerous. He is a fierce warrior and loyal to his master, Baine. However, he’s still his father’s property and as such his already lost his value. His father has already “given” him as a mate to Synge’s half-breed dragon daughter, Rya.

Rya is not delusional. She knows that the only reason Torque agreed to be her betrothed is because he had no other choice, but neither did she. They actually never had one. Even before they were born, Rya’s mother had a vision that Rya and Torque would be mated and together they would find Synge’s greatest treasure. Well, since Synge wants his “greatest treasure” to be found, he knew he had to put them together. However, if Torque’s behavior towards her gives any indication regarding his feelings for her, then Rya knows he couldn’t care less. Torque has made no effort to approach her after since their betrothal ceremony fifty years ago.

Rya’s mother has gone missing and since nobody seems to have noticed, Rya takes it upon herself to find her. She’s on a mission and no one can stop her. Not even the stubborn dragon who insists it’s his duty (DUTY?) to protect her.

Scorched by darkness was amazing! There is action, mystery, suspense, and even doses of Levet! I had so much fun following their journey as they tried to uncover a century of mysteries and, quite literally, get to the bottom of the “ice” just to see what treasure or monster is hidden underneath. You will never expect the turn things get. You will never guess what could possible be Synge’s greatest treasure but once you find out you will know it was worth it!

I really liked Torque and Rya. They worked so amazingly together! I’m really looking forward to either Synge or Char’s story!

I can’t wait!

This book is interesting because it was told from more than 2 point of views. It lets you to know the characters better, but I felt that it cut the story short.

Rya and Torque were engaged before they know each other. Arranged marriage? But it just seem laughable that Torque agree to go through with it. But fire erupts whenever they see each other. I guess for their case, arranged marriage is not a terrible thing after all.

And they arranged marriage brought Synge's first wife and daughter back to him. The so called 'treasure' that he coveted and missed for so long. But i wonder, after he assumed his first wife and daughter died, he go on and married or get himself a few lovers that results in children? It felt weird and Rya's mother don't even lived with her father or her. I need more explanation here. Because I thought Synge has a harem and all his woman live there with him? How come Rya's mother is an exception? @.@

But still, Alexandra Ivy does managed to construct a good storyline with all those prophecies.

“Scorched by Darkness” is book two in the Dragons of Eternity series and it doesn't disappoint. I loved it right from the start. Torque is a soldier and doesn't have time for his betrothed Rya, he has always kept himself busy with training or fighting never letting himself think about his future because it was never his choice to mate with Rya. Torque is all alpha and goes to find his mate Rya who has disappeared. I loved it when Torque and Rya found one another because they are perfect for one another, she doesn't let him push her around and he realizes she is his mate and is stronger than he realizes. I loved that we get to see Levet again, the KISA, he is hilarious as usual, and we get to see not just dragons, half dragons, fey, but frost sprites, jinn, vampires, and slyvermyst. I can't wait for the next book featuring Char and Blayze because that ending. I highly recommend this series if you love any of the above mentioned, especially alpha dragons even half dragons.

Ms. Ivy I love you but Damn this ending

Spoiler alert. This book was like a maze which is what the were in with no way out. I love it. There was no way to guess how the story was going to end I loved trying to predict it. So much fun Rya and Torque I loved them dearly the way they met the way they learned that even though they were promised a future together love was never thought about it was just something to endure and try to get through. Torque was an assassin a trained killer for Baine the most knowledgeable Dragon around. Rya was a beloved daughter of Baines father who was missing, alone with her mother and since she was Torque soon to be mate he's on a search to find them. I love that the story will be continued but Damn that ending. Love this series

This was great. Torque is a half-breed dragon. His father bartered him off to pay off a debt to Synge..who wants him mated to Rya, Synge's half breed daughter. He wants Rya and Torque to look for his lost treasure. Rya doesn't want to be mated to Torque and her mother is missing so she takes off to find her leaving Torque behind and he is not happy!..The story goes from there and its was so good. Loved it. This is the 2nd book in Ivy's Dragon's of Eternity series. Highly recommend. If you have read any of Ivy's other series you will be happy to know that Levet shows up in this one along with Tane and Tayla for a short scene. They are from her Vampire series. Good Reading~!

Phew, Torque and Rya are HOT! and their story takes off in a setting that is the complete opposite. The one thing I found missing in the first book was the elaborate mating ritual. But in this book I loved the betrothal marking. Rya's dragon tattoo is especially gorgeous in my imagination. I also loved how complementary they are to each other's characters seeing as to they really started off on the wrong foot. Synge's treasure turned out to be a real surprise but now explains why he is so mean. So looking forward to Char and Blayze's story.
