This is a rather handsome, large sized compendium of Dr. Strange lore. If you fancy yourself a fan then this is a must have.
Filled to the brim with illustrations from various comics and with side notes explaining the individual issues, this book is the Encylopedia of Dr. Strange. Divided into seven sections it goes over the following:
Strange Magic- Details the birth and powers of Dr. Strange
Side by Side- gives us an in-depth look at the various allies of Dr. Strange from Spiderman and Wong to The Defenders and Daimon Hellstrom.
Enemy Mine- Looks at the various enemies of Dr. Strange from Dormammu and Nightmare to Baron Mordo and Morgan Le Fay.
The All-Powerful- You learn about Strange's interactions with the cosmic powers like the Vishanti and Eternity to The Living Tribunal and the Beyonder.
Mystic Realms- Everything from the Sanctum Sanctorum to the Dark Dimension
Spellbound- a description of his spells from the crimson bands of Cyttorak to telepathy
Objects of Enchanment- a look at his powerful mystical objects such as the Eye of Agamotto and The Book of the Vishanti.
All in all? I really enjoyed the beautifully illustrated volume of Dr. Strange lore. If you are a fan you will find a treasure trove of cool information and art. If you are not? Well this might make you a fan and is a great introduction to the world of Dr. Strange.
Wow - DK's outdone themselves! What a lovely book! I really totally love this DK books on Marvel/DC universes. I got to start collecting them. They're great for beginners; even I can learn something from them and I've been reading comics for 50 years.
Beautiful reference guide on all things Doctor Strange. The illustrations are wonderfully done and range from the earliest artwork to the current representations of Doctor Strange. A kind of hardcover encyclopedia that touches on all aspects of the Sorcerer Supreme's life. Topics such as friends, villains, spells, group affiliations, other worlds/dimensions, etc .... The information contained is short and to the point, making for easy and quick reading. Very well done and it is an over sized edition. One of the overall standouts in my book collection.
Entertaining and surprisingly thorough guide through the comic book world of Doctor Strange. With bold graphics (lots of splash pages and highly-detailed art) it covers his allies and enemies, magical artifacts, fellow sorcerers, and cosmic beings. Especially useful are the parts that describe all the magical entities he battles, draws power from, or (in many cases) both -- not glossing over the darker periods in his career when he's called upon dark forces in his role as Sorcerer Supreme. I wish that the book had gone into a bit more depth about his character; his ego and his difficulty with personal relationships are key parts of his character, but they are glossed over here, even when discussing his relationship with his ex-wife, Clea.
Fun encyclopedia type book of Dr. Strange. Lots of information but not too much that my head explodes like those Annotated books. I'm not a huge Dr Strange fan but this did make me want to go back and read some more of his comics. At times, his is a complicated world so it is great to have this as a reference when I read some more DS. It's a great looking book too. Large illustrations of the Doc doing his thing.
Nice compilation of artifacts, villains, friends, team ups and universes in the world of Doctor Strange. Would have been nice if each item would have referenced issue numbers.
The BEST Dr. Strange reference book so far. I have always been waiting for something like this and kudos to DK Publishing for making this possible. From a brief history to his array of spells, magical arsenal and a listing of the gods that Strange invokes, this book is a must for all Doctor Strange fans and new initiates into the world of the Vishanti and our own Sorcerer Supreme
Great reference guide for all things Doctor Strange...whether you are diving into the comics or checking out the movie. (The book has nothing to do with the movie universe, but still great history)
