⭐️USA Today Bestseller⭐️ Ashley Farley writes heartfelt stories about women navigating life’s challenges. Her characters—mothers, daughters, sisters, and wives—face real-life struggles with resilience and grace. Best known for her Sweeney Sisters series, Ashley’s books have touched the hearts of readers far and wide.
A wife and mother of two young adults, for more than two decades, Ashley has split her time between Richmond and the Northern Neck of Virginia. Yet, a piece of her heart will always belong to the South Carolina Lowcountry, where she draws inspiration from the moss-draped oaks, coastal cuisine, and the warm, welcoming spirit of its people.
Breaking the Story shares Scottie Darden’s story as she picks up the pieces of her life and sets to redefine her goals and boost her career. What she needs is a standout picture and story to gain notice. Instead she unknowingly gets much more than she bargained for. The tale that unfolded was suspenseful with a light romance and humor.
I struggled a little with Scottie in Merry Mary. While I understood her, she did not have enough backbone and her decisions were not the best. In Breaking the Story, Scottie really comes into her own. She let’s go of the toxins in her life, makes peace with her losses and sets out to attain the goals that got muddled in all the mess and mundane of daily life. We witness a stronger more confident Scottie. I loved the way she pursued this case and the integrity she displayed. She is feisty, seems to have a renewed confidence and is determined not to settle.
The suspense thread takes on an air of mystery as Scottie works to discover to identify one of the parties in a photo he takes. Aside from rocking the political campaign, someone desperately wants to keep Scottie from publishing those photos. I found this thread to be intense and fascinating giving the story a little edge as Scottie finds herself in danger.
Breaking the Story plot surrounds the 2016 Campaign elections and introduces Guy Jordan. Scottie first meets him when he comes to her aid and while there is chemistry she is not in the position to act on it. Thinking he might be with the secret service on the campaign trail, she enlists his help when it becomes obvious that she stumbled on a story that might have her in danger. Guy is an all around nice guy, and I loved his back story. He added a little humor, loosened Scottie up and showed her possibilities. I enjoyed their banter and watching their relationship develop. There was some drama when Scottie discovers what Guy really does, but it felt realistic, as did their feelings. The romance is light with a little closed-door heat that acted as a side dish to the suspenseful/mystery thread.
I liked the book. I liked the characters. I think Ashley Farley is a decent writer and I've enjoyed this book enough to finish it. My only problem with her books is that they tend to be open ended. To fast a cleanup up and finish at the end. That costs a star in the ratings for me.
Think I've found a new author! Read the Sweeney Sisters series and really enjoyed each of them. Had the flu so I read all while I Was under the weather.
A follow up to the novella I reviewed yesterday. I was worried after not enjoying the novella that I wouldn't love this one much either, I am glad to say that is not the case. To spoil a little, a lot of what I didn't love about the first book was the husband and everything about him, I was so so thankful that her husband is gone REAL quick and the book continues beyond that.
I loved Scottie Darden so much more in this book when she is off on an adventure that seems a little more plausible and is worth true consequences. This book felt more full and real and like a great adventure. I read this one so quickly in basically one sitting, it was the perfect one to sit down and enjoy during the crazy holiday season.
After reading this one, I wouldn't mind more from this author in this series and may need to try out another series of hers.
She truly did it again! Ashley Farley delivers a great story every.dang.time!! How does she write so well and know how to get the story just right? Scottie is a photojournalist and always seems to get herself into a predicament, her life isn't what or where she'd like it to be and she'd love a family. After taking a photo of a political candidate, her life takes some really dangerous twists In this read. I loved it and I highly recommend everyone reading all of her books! If you have kindle unlimited or even if you don't, go get this book and let me know what ya think! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow The fast lane of the Washington political arena.
If you are going to only read one book before the end of the year, make sure it is this one. Ashley really out did herself with this one. She did a good job mixing all the different aspects of the story. She kept the story moving right along. Another book you couldn't put down. You had to see what was happening on the next washing's
I start to read her book and like the rest of her books I'm obsessed with being unable to put them down! And when I finish one I find myself thinking about the story for days after! Ms Farley has the ability to submerge the reader into the story. Kudos to you Ashley Farley. Keep them coming!
I enjoyed this book. It’s the second in a series about a young photojournalist. The first book-actually a novella-seemed too fanciful and irrational to me. However, I enjoy the author and was willing to see where this character would go. I’m glad I did. A quick read and interesting plot—politics-betrayal-criminals ! I’d recommend it.
Tantalizing love story entwined with excitement! Cannot wait for a Book #3!
Love Ashley Farley's writing! She writes with a good knowledge of varied professions; and just enough mystique to make for great reading. Very hard to put book down!
I absolutely love every book I've read by Ashley Farley. I'm hooked from the first page. She always mixes in some drama and intrigue with the stories of love, romance and family.
I give Ashley's book another 5 stars. You won't regret reading any of her books. I get lost in them and lose motivation for anything else. I wish these stories would just continue, never end..
Just finished another book by Ashley Farley. Although this one was not my favorite of her books, it was still an enjoyable story . She has become one of my favorite writers and I read a lot.
The author writes books to women about women. This particular one had sex, adventure, and thrills. I enjoyed each of the characters a few of which I had read about in ",Merry Mary". So enjoy the ride!
I read this book by accident and fell in love. I couldn't wait to have a chance to read it throughout the day. Fun book to read. It has romance, adventure and very real characters.
I loved this book! Characters are engaging, story is non stop action, and you won,t be able to put it down. I just wish there was a next book to this series.
Ashley Farley has done it again....just when you think you know what is going to happen, BAM!!!....the plot thickens and the twist and turns turn into a roller coaster. Another AMAZING book to read.
The book keeps you wondering what will happen next. Ashley can really write stories that keep you guessing what will happen on the next page. She has characters that are likable as well as some that aren't.
I truly enjoyed reading this novel. Once Scottie and Guy began to follow the Caine campaign I couldn’t put this story away. I do wish there was more into the miscarriage at the beginning,
I couldn't finish. I had to force myself to finish the first book. And didnt even reach the half point of this one. The main character alone got to me. Her selfish ways...ugh. I'm even annoying myself trying to describe why I dislike these two.
I love Ashley Farley's writing. I like the way she makes her characters' minds work. The situations her characters get into are honest & able to happen as any I can see happening.
Enjoyed reading about Scottie and her adventures. If you like exciting fiction, drama, you'll love this book. Thanks for sharing your imagination with us.
