When love is a gamble, Vegas is the best place to be when you roll the dice.
Lucifer
When you’re born into one of the most powerful mafia families in Chicago, it’s almost impossible to leave that life behind, but I thought I had done it. I had a new life in Vegas, filled with all the money and women a man could want. I was the king of my world.
But then the past caught up with me. An old debt had to be repaid, and the only way out of it was to either be married or engaged to be married. Finding a woman willing to play the part was easy. Remembering that this was all just make-believe was a lot harder than I expected it to be, but it could never be real. I had done things, evil things that she wouldn’t understand.
Krista
I was on the run from a dangerous past, looking to start over, definitely not looking for a relationship. I had way too much baggage for something like that.
And then a wild one-night stand turned into the offer of a lifetime – $2000 to pretend to be his fiancée for a couple of days. It was a dream come true but it was a nightmare, too. I had seen the darkness within him. He lived up to his name and enjoyed dishing out punishment to those who had wronged him. What would he do to me if he discovered I was keeping something from him?
Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18. No cliffhanger, no cheating, and a guaranteed HEA.
I recieved an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Lucifer started off with a BANG! Well actually it started with a juicy, steamy, sexy sex scene but hey that's like a bang right? Anyhow, true to Jessi Talbots form, this book packed a lot into its small size. The book Lucifer was filled with sex thoughts, talk and the deed itself. The plot was believable and storyline flowed well. The story was told in the POV of both characters, Krista and Lucifer, which helped me become more invested in each character. I always find that happens when you get the intimate thoughts and wishes of the character. This book also moved quickly, as in characters get to know each other and develop strong feeling quickly, which is also a Jessi Talbot trait in her books and not a bad thing at all. Just helps get the story where it needs to be quickly skipping unneeded filler story. In this story Lucifer needs a temporary fiancé and the hot body he can't seem to get off his mind, might end up being too good for the job. I can't wait for the next book to the series as I now can't wait to know what happens after her bold actions under the table.
This story had waaaaaaay more potential than it actually achieved.
The writing style was so, so bad not to mention everything was cliched and just not well done- events happened way too fast so as to be ridiculous. The story had no time to set up character OR plot development. Lucifer and Krista's first meeting was absolutely ludicrous and laughable; his speech to the other guy shouldn't have made Krista jump him in the bar bathroom, it should have made her laugh in his face and slap him on behalf of women everywhere!! While the plot was promising and sounded intriguing, it was poorly executed and written, not to mention that the story had no real ending or resolution! What the author gave us was completely 2-D 1940s cartoon where I was expecting 4-D HD, and had it been it would've worked great; as it is, it fell so completely short.
I am being generous to give this two stars, and that's only because I forced myself to finish the story since it was so short.
