“Scout Steele is the country music star People magazine just voted “sexiest bachelor”. More than that, he’s my best friend forever, my bff. OK, not quite my lingo - I’m almost thirty. We’ve shared everything, and then some. Even crossed the line a few times, but not too far. Well, mostly…. He’ll go to the end of the world to make me happy; he knows me inside and out. Except, that is, my most intimate and darkest defect; this he must never know. It would ruin us, and ‘us’ is the only thing that matters. So I’m marrying someone who doesn’t care about the truth or, frankly, even me.”
“She’s twisted and sexy as all get out. Brilliant and beautiful, Tess Harlow is my best friend and my forbidden fruit - the woman I’ve always known and loved the best but can never have. Between my tours (and sexy groupies) and her man-juggling, we’ve never found “our time”. I love her to pieces but she’s about to marry the bane of my existence, rocker Creed Luce. He’s a walking cliché and he treats my Tess like hell - why she stays with him I still haven’t figured out. I am always there for her…but not this time. Tess deserves better, way better, my better. The door is half-open and I have my ways. Her best friend is about to become her best lover.”

She describes herself as a passionately-obsessive, balance-seeking, oxymoron-living, modern-day dirty-minded woman. She lives on a ranch on the west coast with her husband, four boys and about enough animals to sink an ark.

So! I picked up this beauty and was just reading a few pages. An hour later I was in deep. I love this Author. Her story telling is amazing. I have read her other stories and was very happy. This story is one hot, funny and extremely sexy read about Soulmates who fight the pull of attraction. The banter between the two main characters is hilarious and will have you not wanting to put it down. This is not your average best friends who end up together, this is so much more. I cried and laughed so many times I forgot I was reading and felt like I was living in the story. Perfect reading. I did however find a bit of missing or misspelled words. So be warned for those who get a bit bothered. I still give 5 stars because it is a great story. No cliffhanger. I am a true fan of this Author. She is an automatic buy for me.
Scout and Tess. Not your average couple. NOT AT ALL. Even their friendship is on another plane of existence.
Evan is a country music star. He also happens to be one of the sexiest men alive. His relationship with Tess is one of friendship, even though he has always loved her and wanted to be with her. What he doesn’t expect is to ever act on those feelings. Until he does…
Tess is engaged to be married to another man. She has always loved Scout, but has never told him. To her, he is not the safe option as she will have to reveal her secret and stop hiding behind the wall she has kept up for so long.
I was not expecting to be so surprised by the secret! To say my jaw was on the floor was an understatement! Nowadays, it seems like books have become more predictable, so to be blown away is an awesome experience!
This is the first book I have read by this author, but I will be back for more and more! The emotions written in make you feel like you are experiencing it all first hand. Every fear, every tingle, and every ounce of love pours off the pages. ~ Devlynn, 4.5 stars
Arc provided for an honest review 3*** stars (I'm being generous)
When I requested this book, I pretty much had just skimmed the write up and thought it sounded good, then I started the book and after reading this.....
''I hear the swell of her sexy, gap-toothed smile kissing the width of her face. I hear the sway of her hips as though the devil himself has his hands on her flesh, taunting me with her fire.''
My first thought was oh great I'm gonna hate this one, and honestly I did the first at least 40% of this book I couldn't tell you how many times I rolled my eyes, I disliked the two main character straight away, the way they acted together, the things the said to eachother, I was just like, no no no! If I wasn't rolling my eyes I was cringing it just wasn't for me, and don't get me wrong I love banter and flirting but not the way this was wrote.
Then there was parts like this...
''I lay a devilish kiss on her velvety lips, holding her captive like a thief…until she halves us, though she stays in my embrace for what feels like forever. I cage her, overruling my better judgment. This is all I have—can you blame me for nursing my heart with her sensuous balm?''
Really?? Who talks like that :-/
This writing style was not my cup of tea at all! But after the big 'secret' it did get better to the point of, to me it felt like it was being written by a different person, I pretty much felt like I was reading about totally different characters, they were easier to like than at the beginning. I won't say I loved the rest of the book tho, it was better than the first half but still not great.
Overall, this was a nice story with a fantastic take away message, but I found it difficult to connect with the characters. Was a little slow in some places too.
This is the first book that I've had the opportunity to read by Wells and I was pretty impressed. I enjoyed a lot of what was going on with this book. Can you imagine being in love with your best friend but afraid to tell them because it might change the relationship and you're sure that your bestie doesn't love you like that but then your bestie is thinking the SAME EXACT thing about you?!? Crazy and perfect premise for a book. I wasn't due to read this one for quite a few weeks but I bumped it up in the schedule because I couldn't get this book out of my mind until I picked it up. Man, I'm glad that I did!
I enjoyed the way that the author created Scout and Tess. I admired Tess because of her spunkiness (totally not a word but it should be!) but at the same time, I absolutely despised her because of her fiance Creed. What a douche! I could not stand that guy and while I could understand why Tess was with him, it just irritated the shit out of me the whole time. I wanted to just shake her and make her realize that Scout was the man for her but hey, whatever. Scout ... he was interesting. I think that the thing I liked most about him was his playfulness and sweet demeanor. I found myself saying "AWWW" quite a bit and I just couldn't help myself. Such a sweet guy.
Now, this is one of those rocker/celebrity stories but the number one thing I appreciated about this book was it didn't push that fact into your face constantly. There are some rocker books that I've read where it just waxes poetic about how much money the characters have and how famous they are but that wasn't the case for this one. It's understated and most of the time like a gentle current pushing the story along but it's nothing that would be in your face. It was great.
The story bumped along at a great pace, I didn't feel like it lagged or slowed down in any parts. But. BUT. It was a bit sugary sweet sometimes. There was a lot of lovey-dovey stuff that just became tiring every once in a while. It was like watching your best friend make out with their new girlfriend every 5 seconds and while Tess and Scout didn't use baby talk, it was kind of the same in my mind. It was eye-roll worthy at times. That was really the only downside to the novel. And get ready, it's an emotional roller coaster that you're going to go on with A Mess of Reason. It yanked at my heartstrings and then made me laugh. Great book, I would be more than willing to read another one by this author.
* I received this novel in exchange for an honest review *
Excuse me while I change my pants!! Holy smokes was I on fire!! Or more my panties!!
Good grief to one of my fave author A. Wilding Wells! This is another melting, swoon, dirty talking, sex on a stick hero who has a mouth of my dream lover.
Without giving too much away, this story will lead us to a pair a best friends from childhood and how they develop feelings through the years for another. They deny all their feelings in sacred of their friendship. But how long is too long?! Will Scout pull all the stops and reveal his feelings or will he let his best friend go and get married to an undeserving guy who Tess is only choosing because it's a "safe" choice.
Sometimes we have do what's safe and protect ourselves right?!? Or do we pick the one we love and who has been there through the good, bad, and ugly?
This is a story of self worth, deep friendship and fighting the inevitable. If you love best friend-into lover romance you don't want to miss this!!
A.Wilding Wells. I love you dearly and you've become one of my fave author of 2016. Such great talent and dirty mind. (I love it) It was an honor writing this review and thank you for the ARC!!! Muah :-*
So you may know I love best friends = lovers. In that case we know how it ends. I can recommend these types, some of my favorites if you ever want. This was amazing IMO! This is not filled with sex either and I was going nuts! Scout has got to be one of the hottest best friends! The history between him and Tess was what I dream of in these types of books! Don't get me wrong, my husband is my best friend of 24 years but damn what I wouldn't give for this type of best friend!

I could have done without "sweetheart" thousands of times yet it was just how he was with her. That sweetheart thing is deceiving because Scout has quite the dirty mouth. These two were destined to be together but there is one secret that Tess held... NO ONE knew and when Scout accidently discovered that secret, I never would have guessed what she had been keeping all along that kept her all those years from a relationship with Scout. But of course because he's so dreamy ... he loved her so deeply it was amazing, unconditional love. He melted my panties right off! IT. DID. NOT. MATTER. TO. HIM. This secret of hers.
They were playful back and forth, almost crossing the line but there was something keeping this amazing man from doing it. Oh it was such a tease I could hardly stand it!
Once the unforgiveable happened in Tess's life, who was there to pick her up??
"Pity sex, sympathy slam', mercy fuck. Call it what you will. I'll help you get your love on... take your mind off matters."
I was about ready to die with some of the things I learned during this read, a bachelorette:party...
1. Pin the junk on the hunk. 2. Penis-colada Jello-o shot 3. pecker pin~ata and then some
"Fuck me with your words."~~Tess
And you know what? I'm going to. I'm going to fuck her so hard with my words that she won't be able to walk. She thinks she's gonna get a little feather tease, I'll bet, but no. I've got her blueprint- I've had it for fifteen years, remember? And since I can't slay her with my actual cock, I'll do it verbally, like a jackhammer. "Come here Tessie girl."
This book was a hot mess express. I didn’t know what to expect going into this story and I don’t know if the final product fully met my expectations, but it was an interesting read. Very interesting. The first thing you should know about A. Wilding Wells is her writing style is a unique, one-of-a-kind, bohemian, modern-day hippie driven voice. Her style is her own.
AMOR was a friends-to-lovers romance between singer Scout Steele and Tess Harlow. These two have been best friends for years, they’ve had crushes on each other but the timing has never been right between them, and now Tess is about to marry Creed Luce, rocker extraordinaire.
Right off the bat, I didn’t buy the engagement/wedding aspect of Tess’s character. She had a fat rock on her hand, a dress fitting and her bachelorette party planned but that was it. No emotional connection, whatsoever, was displayed for Creed. Perhaps the lack of Creed’s presence within the story is where my disconnect is from. I’m fairly certain he said less than 20 words.
This ‘friendship’ between Scout and Tess was a bit...interesting. Between the physical affection, terms of endearment, and that wild game they played together at the cabin....interesting is the best I can come up with. Their friendship felt much more intimate than any friendship I’ve ever had in my life. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, I’m sure 60’s youth acted the same way.
Scout, as soft and pussy whipped as you are, you can dirty talk, text or eye-fuck me whenever you want. The words that came out of this man’s mouth had me in a pool of lust. (I’m pretty sure Man Friend is jealous and needs to take notes.) Tess didn’t always deserve the kindness you bestowed upon her but bravo for not giving up and following your heart.
Tess, your insecurities do not give you the right to be selfish with love. You cannot have the best of both worlds and, though I can’t judge, you should have made a decision when Scout first laid his claim out on the table. Love involves trust and when you trust others with your deepest, darkest secrets you need to respect their reactions. Don’t shy away from the truth and pick the easy way out. (I could continue my personal rant to her but I’ll spare y’all.)
This story was all over the place. I felt certain aspects should have been expanded upon to make the emotions more genuine. I also will advise that spell/grammar check and proof-reading are an absolute must. They help the story flow and eliminate my level of frustration.
Genre: Romance. Well, this read has a slew of great reviews but...I should have read a sample first. I was drawn in though by the rock star leads – not just one but two! Throw in the chance of some Jealous rivals scenes and I was pressing the request button without my usual research. Big mistake – huge – as for me this was just a Mess of a Read. :-( Its told in alternate POV chapters, but seemed to be almost a monologue of ramblings and regrets from both of them that could be summed up as “he/she is my best friend. If I act on my feelings we’ll lose that.” I didn’t really like either of them, so after forcing myself to about 40% and finding it was still the same conundrum being dragged out “ I fancy her/him but...I wish I’d...What if I kiss him/her?” along with both of them doing everything but actual sex, regardless of the feelings of her soon to be husband I was ready to abandon it. Guilt – they didn’t seem to feel any. How would she feel if her fiancé was doing that with his best female friend - or male for that matter ;-) ? I was so bored I skim read, coasting through to see what happened. Its a book for me that was a bad choice on my part. I was looking for action, for plot development, for something – anything – to happen but there’s very little. It really just covers a few events in the couple of weeks prior to the wedding. Tess is hiding a big secret too and when it comes out I kept thinking “ how? How did she hide that from her best friends and her fiancé ?” It just didn’t seem plausible the explanation given. Still....maybe if I’d liked the characters and story better I’d have gone along with it – who knows? Sadly this read was a Fail for me.
Stars: Two, just didn’t work for me. As ever though reading taste is subjective, this is just my view and there will be others that love this book. ARC supplied by Netgalley and publishers. If you enjoyed my review I'd love it if you would please click “Like” and if you didn't I'd love to know why, in case I've inadvertently added a spoiler and need to edit.
I loved Scout! Who wouldn't love a dirty talking, hot man that just won't give up. This could have been a 5 star read but unfortunately the editing has let it down. Normally I don't worry about the odd few but missing words and spelling were scattered throughout the whole book. It's distracting and disappointing. The story and characters were great.
This book is fabulous! It reads like people actually talk. Just a little predictable how it would end, but still worth the read! I highly recommend it, and will joyfully reread it when I have more time to devote to a M/F couple! Oh yeah, the guy on the cover that I'm seeing on Goodreads? He's on a lot of the M/M Romances that I read! Go figure...
copy received through Netgalley Friends to lovers. Scout and Tess have been best friends for years. They are in love with each other but something is always in the way. They are either in relationships with others or in different points in their lives. Also Tess has a big secret. The writing was a little messy for me. A lot of dialogue and back and forth with the main characters. This was not as good as I thought it would be. It took me a couple of starts to get through the entire book It got to be a little confusing sometimes. I really like Scout after he bared his soul. He was the perfect book boyfriend. Tess was frustrating with her hesitation and lack of trust. I liked the after the fiancee part of the story way better than the should we or shouldn't we part. It was just ok for me. ,
Scout Steele is a drop dead gorgeous country music star, owns an upscale bar and is secretly in love with his best friend. She doesn’t know that though and while he would like nothing more than to tell her how he really feels, her friendship is more important to him than taking a chance on losing her so he doesn’t say a word about it. Oh he tells her all the time that he loves her but then so does she. He shows her all time with the things that he does but then so does she so what’s a guy to do but to hold onto her as long as he can and pray that he doesn’t lose her because his best friend is set to marry another man. A man that doesn’t deserve her, a man that is wrong for her on so many levels but who is he to stand in her way if she loves him.
Tess Harlow is smart, funny, beautiful and taking the world by storm with the new video designs that she has brought to life. You would think that with all the fame and fortune that has been bestowed on her that she would be happy and she is, in a sense. But Tess is living a lie and has been for most of life. See, Tess is also in love with her best friend who just so happens to be the one man that she will never allow to see the real her. If Scout ever saw her without her armor it would kill him, she knows that he would walk on water if he had to get to her, to help her, but she doesn’t want his pity. She has only ever wanted one thing from him and that was his love and since she can’t have that without showing him her true self, she’s marrying another man. A man that she doesn’t love but because he’s a rock star and will rarely be home, it doesn’t matter because if she can’t have the love of the only man that truly wants, she can at least have kids and a family. Living close to the only man that she has ever loved will have to be enough because telling him or rather showing him her secret isn’t an option. It’s not an option for anyone.
This book slayed me!!! Scout is beyond perfect and the way that he loves Tess is so unconditional, it just blew me away. Some of the things that he said to her had me in tears and it damn near broke my heart when they fought because they are so perfect for each other. I loved the writing style and the fact that it was written as if the main characters were often talking directly to you. The whole book was fun to read and some of the things that Tess and Rox would say had me laughing out loud. They were hilarious, rarely had filters and man could they drink.
I was given an ARC from the publisher through Netgalley in return for an honest review.
I am a big Fan of A. Wilding Wells and I read this arse about, but because I loved "How To Tame Beasts And Other Wild Things" I needed (Yes Needed) to get my hands on this. Now right off I knew this book was going to be something special, I fell for Scout, like in that Hard, Swoon worthy way on the first couple of pages.
This book is about 2 Best Friends who would do absolutely anything for each other, except the one thing they both desperately want!! I think after reading this book everyone should have a little bit of Scout in their lives. I mean who can resist a Sexy as hell Country Singer who adores and would do anything for his Best Friend for the past 15 years Tess. Oh and let's not forget his very, very Naughty mouth.
He takes Hotness to a whole new level, he is not only dripping in Sex appeal but he is honourable to a fault, and would go to the end of the earth to make Tess Happy, including weird birthday cakes included. (Cue the Twinkies and Chiclets) I found him to be very endearing and lickable and freaking hot as hell.
Tess loves her best friend but in no way can she divulge her Darkest secret, a secret she has lived with for most of her life, no one knows her secret not even her best friend Scout, it will shatter them both.
Tess is pushing 30 and her biological clock is ticking, she wants to be married and start a family so she sacrifices true happiness and agrees to marry fellow rocker Creed. She believes she will be able to hide herself and her secrets from him for the sake of having a baby. Creed is always out of town touring and has no plans of slowing down anytime soon to her he is a safe option, but at what cost?
Will this come between Scout and Tess, will their friendship remain the same or will they be changed forever.
NB I happen to love the Cabin Scenes, Just sayin and what happens at Bachelorette Parties, Stays at Batchelorette Parties.

So what did I think about this book? I'm not really sure. It wasn't a bad book but I didn't love it. I went from like Tess to disliking her to wanting to shaking her to liking her again. She put me through so many emotions with the decisions she made and didn't make. I know she had her own demons and was doing what she honestly thought was best for her. I thought at times she was so selfish with how she was handling Scout. But then I remembered that Scout was a grown man and he could make his own choices. The back and forth with them drove me nuts at times. Mainly Tess though. I like Scout wanted her to make a decision and stick with it. Did she want Scout or not? Was she going to take a leap of faith and reveal all to Scout? Was she going to go ahead and marry her douche of a fiancé? Why exactly was she engaged to him? At times I wanted to skip ahead to get those answers.
So I have mix feelings with this book. I gave 3 solid stars. 3 stars equals good in my book, but not great. Would I reread this book? Probably not, but I would recommend. Maybe you will love it. This book has A LOT of sexual tension until the "act" was completed. This book also has what I consider cheating. Even if the person Tess was cheating on was a jerk and she didn't love him. So all in all, those are my thoughts.
Great story, I enjoyed it from beginning to end. Tess and Scout have been BFF's since they were kids, stuck in the friend zone Scout wants more but does not want to scare Tess, he is not sure that she has the same feelings for him. So they continue on as BFF's, Tess is engaged to marry Creed a touring musician. Tess keeps secrets that she hasn't told anyone not even Scout. Both Scout and Tess have strong feelings for each outer but are afraid that these feelings are not mutually shared. Tess has a very difficult time trusting people completely and has never told anyone about her secret. When Scout discovers what it is will it change his feelings towards Tess? You will have to read the book to find out. This was a steamy, romantic story. I received a free ARC for my honest opinion.

Scout and Tess have been best friends since middle school. They've kissed a couple of times, but its never gone farther than that. Everyone around them sees they belong together, but it's never been the right time for them. When one is single the other is in a relationship and visa versa. Now, after several years of living away, Scout has finally talked Tess into moving back home. They are going to be working on a cutting edge entertainment industry project. Even though they'll be able to spend a lot of time together, a relationship doesn't seem in the cards now either. Tess is engaged and will be married in a few weeks. Scout isn't happy about it, but Tess is his best friend and he'll support her in anything she decides.
Both Scout and Tess have feelings for each other, but neither knows it. Both too afraid of losing their best friend if something goes wrong between them. Eventually Scout can't take it anymore and let's Tess know how he feels. He can tell she wants him, too, but something is holding her back. She has a desperate need to get married and have kids, something Scout isn't opposed to, but she seems committed to marrying a loser like Creed as well. Turns out Creed is a safe choice for Tess. He doesn't require her to bare all, bare her soul, or bare her secrets to him. Scout would and there are things Tess can't even tell him.
Scout decides he is willing to do what it takes to get Tess to let him in - to trust him with the secret she has been keeping since she was a child. Will Tess be willing to share everything for a chance with the love of her life because Scout isn't committing to her until she trusts him with it all.
A MESS OF REASON was another one-sitting read, just like both of A. Wilding Wells other books. FYI - A FIELD GUIDE TO CATCHING CRICKETS isn't available yet so keep checking your book seller of choice. It is scheduled for release on June 7th, 2016. Here is a link to the Goodreads page.
Until then, be sure to order the two that are available.
Now talk about a mess. This book was a war going on ad off between the two main characters. They were two strong unstoppable forces as they ended up colliding causing a big mess.
It’s like Christmas being in her presence. Like capturing the lights of a thousand fireflies in the palm of your hand.
Scout had the patience of a saint. I loved this man. He had so much love inside that it shocked the hell out of me. Like a lot. I never imagined anyone could care and love somebody like he did with Tess. He was the best friend and lover all at once. He took everything Tess through at him like a champ. I didn't feel like it was all just sexual to him, he had more in him. I loved everything about Scout. He was just the perfect mix despite his manwhore ways.
She’s always my starting point when I write, and she’s my middle, and well…I’m sure she’ll be my end, if fate rolls the dice in our favor somewhere along the line. Two people that mesh on this level can’t possibly be kept apart forever…right?
Oh Tess. What can I say about her? The queen of bad choices and decisions. I didn't like Tess. She wasn't my favourite character at all. I hated how whiny she was. She cried at every single thing. She got on my nerves throughout the entire book. I just wanted her to calm the hell down. Still, I can't imagine going through what she went through as a kid and how much she suffered. She was strong despite how she never mentioned the truth but she was. I didn't love her, but she earned my respect at some points.
Love takes courage and a willingness to let go. Love’s a free fall, baby.
Tess and Scout were beautifully explosive together. They were meant to be from the start and they were too scared to take the damn leap!!
A. Wilding Wells has a gift of writing complicated yet simple characters with a twist that will change your course while reading. I love reading her books. So going back to an old book of hers, showed me how she developed and improved as a writer. I couldn't help myself from reading her first book ever. It made me love her new books even more.
The cover is nothing less than amazing.
“I knew time would discover us, our story. Time always unearths the truth, baby.”
Scout and Tess will make you mad, sad and swoony. They will give you hell. You will hate them most of the book, but you can't help feeling happy when they get together. They were a mess, a mess of reason.

Judging a Book by it's Cover: Naked male lying in bed with sheet strategically placed to cover the essential parts. Diagonal cut into cover creates opaque half for no apparent reason. Looking Deeper: Alternating first-person POVs, clearly defined and easy to follow. The writing style of this book is, however, more unique than just simply being from one's POV. It's done more as if the character is narrating to the reader as a confidante; on familiar terms, conversing in that almost-shorthand type of speaking that we tend to do when we are comfortable with a person. Her thoughts and narratives feel a little more structured and articulate, whereas his are - for a lack of better terms - slouchy. Scout and Tess have been lifelong best friends and the level of intimacy between them already borders on inappropriate. But with Tess marrying soon, Scout's desperation mounts... both are in love with the other but communication, while flirty and often honest, the one BIG truth is often omitted. They begin crossing lines and boundaries, millimeters at a time but more often than not. Secondary characters are varied and add depth and conflict to the story without trying to take over the plot. The plot can be a little slow at times, concentrating on too many details of an event or encounter, but the witty and unusual narration keeps things entertaining. The writing flow feels much smoother once you approach the book with a conversational outlook. The conflicts probably would have been nearly non-existent if they'd have learned to communicate and trust in one another better. The conclusion very good; solid and satisfying. There were a few fun surprises and some minor predictability. Despite the lower scores that I see this book getting from others, I'd like to note that this really is not that bad of a story. Scout is lovable and seeing Tess transform and her journey in getting there is wonderful. I would have loved to have seen what became of Creed, although he really did not deserve further thought, I'd have loved to have seen him suffer somehow.

Scout and Tess have been best friends for years. Scout is a country music star and Tess is a success in her own right, recently hired to work behind the scenes producing Scout’s holographic virtual concerts. The have unknowingly longed for each other as long as they can remember, never having an opportunity to explore a relationship when they are both single.
Tess is engaged to Creed, a well-known rocker and pretty much all-around douchebag. Scout loathes the guy and knows that he and Tess are a bad fit, but there is little he can do to convince Tess not to take the plunge. It isn’t until Creed shows his true colors that he’s finally able to make a play for Tess, but when Scout learns that she has been harboring a major secret for her entire life, he’s unsure of whether they can even give the relationship a chance. Tess is so afraid of giving all of herself to someone, even if it is her best friend, further complicating matters.
Told in a first person, dual POV, A Mess of Reason gets inside the heads of both of the characters, exploring their strengths and vulnerabilities. The banter between the two and ease they have with each other makes them easy to love and the storyline is engaging.
The issues I had with the book is that Scout was so over the top with the things that he does for Tess that it because hard to believe at some points. Huge birthday present complete with vintage outfit, other gifts bought at auction that had always belonged to some idol of hers (Janis Joplin, etc), and on and on. We get it that Scout is thoughtful and always has Tess at the forefront of his mind, but it became excessive. Also excessive were the amount of sex scenes. By the end of the book I had started to skim because there was just too much. They started to lose their steam simply because I felt like I was reading the same thing over and over.
I’m a huge sucker for the friends to lover trope and this fit the bill, I just wish that things had been just slightly more realistic in order to make it a bit easier to relate to the characters. This is the first book I have read by the author and will definitely check out others!
Tess Harlow has had a crush on her best friend Scout Steele for as long as she can remember. Unfortunately every time she built the nerve to try and let him know he always seemed to be with someone else. Now she is engaged and finding that it is not as easy as she thought it would be to walk away from her first true love
Scout Steele has always hid his feelings from Tess by dating other girls. Although he has always wanted her he was afraid that he would scare her away losing not only her love but his best friend.

I received this book as an ARC from Net Galley for my honest review.
I absolutely loved this book, A. Wilding Wells did a great job with this book creating a relationship between Scout and Tess that was completely relatable, funny and filled with passion and raw emotion.
Both Tess and Scout had me at hello, I had a very hard time picking my favorite character. Tess was so strong but extremely vulnerable because of all of the secrets she keeps from everyone including her best buds. Scout always seemed like a play boy but there is one person that always gets him all soft and blue in ways that brings tears not only to Tess's eyes but to every readers eye that touches this book.
Overall this book was really good. What shocked me the most was that it was only selling for 1.99; I definitely think this can be sold for 4.99 or 5.99.
Great job A. Wilding Wells, you took me on a journey that had me laughing, crying, at times frowning with a "oh no he didn't" face and cheering at all the right times. Cant wait for the next book!
I often find the word 'book funk' thrown around by book nerds who just can't find something to read. This has been me recently but I have to say A Mess of Reason had me hooked.
I stumbled upon this book on Instagram and I have to say its new cover 100% caught my eye (I will happily admit to being a cover snob), and I decided to give it a try.
A Mess of Reason is the story of Tess and Scout- they have been best friends since high school and, now as adults, find themselves together again. They have both secretly loved the other for years but there is one big 'elephant in the room'; Tess is just weeks away from marring her fiance and closing the door on the relationship they both secretly want.
But Tess has her reason for not opening that side of her up to Scout; a secret that she has kept from him all of her life and, when discovered, nearly tears them apart.
A Mess of Reason was filled with things I love in a story; time passing without feeling rushed, secondary characters that you get to know well enough that they add dimension to the story and a story line that had me guessing to the very end.
The only reason this isn't a five star read for me is that, even though this story is written from both Tess ad Scouts perspective, we get to know Tess far better. I feel that we could have learned a lot more about Scout then what we did.
This book is perfect for someone looking for a steamier read that keeps you hooked from beginning to end.
Scout is a sexy, single, country music star and best friends with Tess. To Scout, though, she’s more than his best friend. Every time he thought he’d take it further, she was with someone else. Tess has always loved Scout, but she can’t ever let it progress beyond friendship. She has secrets she has to keep, even from him. Now she’s about to get married to someone else and Scout’s going to walk her down the aisle. Will he be able to give her away to another man?
A Mess of Reason is beautifully overwhelming in it’s sexual frustration and varied misunderstandings. A friendship to love relationship like none other I’ve ever read, this is one you absolutely won’t want to miss! When Scout was supposed to talk dirty to Tess, YOWZA, I think that was the hottest thing I’ve EVER read. I have to give A. Wilding Wells credit where credit is due…please give us more dirty talk in other books and you won’t be able to keep me away. Smoking hot, explosive, panty-melting all the way! The relationship between the hero and heroine was all I could ever ask for. There was sexual tension in spades, combative bursts that led to sensual moments, and such erotic, heart-pounding orgasms you’ll darn near burst! One of the most erotic books I’ve ever read and now you won’t be able to keep me away! A. Wilding Wells is an author of all things steamy and wanton, so pick up your copy of A Mess of Reason today! 5 Stars
I fell in love with the idea of best friends falling in love because my husband was my best friend for 2 years and has been my husband/best friend for almost 17 years. So reading about friends who love each other was a no brainier...however I was disappointed to find out that these weren't best friends who fell in love...they were a couple (in every way but sex and actual labels) who decided to cheat on every relational partner they ever had and then decide to call the spade the spade. Kissing, fondling, exceptionally graphic/raunchy language, full out kissing, etc...that is a relationship and it shouldn't be done with a "friend" whether they are male or female.
It is a decently paced, catchy book up until 66% then it becomes a fk fest every other page for about another 20%...then the real story actual starts getting pretty good. Scout decided to grow a spine and put the ball in her court instead of chasing so hard, Tess grows up and is honest with the people she cares about, and the two put labels to what they've been doing for 15 years. I honestly kinda liked Scout and Tess and would have liked it better without the whole wedding thing..also I have no clue how it was physically possible for her to keep her secret for so long...seems impossible. I would say it's going to be a hit or miss kinda book for readers..
I recieved a copy of the book from Netgalley and the publishers in exchange for an honest review.
Omg my heart #sigh...this is my second book from this author and what I love is that she creates one hell of a sexy hunk of a character that is so sensitive..strong..capable of so much love but is not a pussy either...a man that can put you in your place when you're being a shithead but loving the hell out of you all at the same time lol!!! Scout and Tess have been BFF's since they were kids...both are insanely in love with each other but neither of them know and are to chickenshit to say anything..but when they start getting closer romantically and finally admit they are in love Tess still decides she is gonna go thru with it and get married to her rocker fiancé Creed. Now let's talk about Scout Steele for a second...this man is everything lord!!! He worships the ground Tess walks on..he's so sweet and loving and caring from the grand gestures to the little things he does for her like making her Mac and Cheese and getting little toys in those plastic bubbles to making her cakes from different mashed up hostess cakes...I mean come on!!! #SwoonCity there's nothing he won't do for her not even give up when he discovers a secret she's been hiding from him that prevents her from truly trusting and giving herself to him completely. This book was amazing..loved every word from start to finish!!
Amazing book!! Bellissimo!! I am so happy that I finally started (and finished this book)! It is truly a great book! I have never loved books in which the main characters start their love story as best friends, but this one, OMG, I loved every word of this story! Tess and Scout have been best friends since forever and they have deep feelings for each other but none of them know about it! Tess is engaged to a man who doesn't care of her (and I personally hate him), but she is with him because he never forced her to reveal her BIG SECRET. I loved so much the relationship between Scout and Tess, the strong chemistry and deep love between them and of course I adore when in a book there is humor! Moreover this book is sooo SEXY and when I am looking for a new book to read, it must have hot and sexy scenes! The story is told from both their point of view and I really liked Scout's POV ! I love this man, I want a male best friend like him!! I really hope Italian publisher will translate and publish this amazing book, because in Italy we need a beautiful love story like this one! I STRONGLY recommend this book!
Tess and Scout. Best friends forever on the outside, totally in love with each other on the inside. Tess is a holographic concert maker for Scout and Scout is the sexy bachelor country star. They flirt “innocently” and have harmless fun until the day Scout seen Tess try on her wedding dress, then shit got real. Scout knows he needs to make his move before she marries the douchebag. Tess is marrying Creed because it’s safe and simple. She’ll have kids and a family and won’t have to reveal her darkest secret. What do these bed friends do?! Now I’m not really going to describe the details of the book any further (it’s time for you to pick up a copy and read). The novel is written well. It kept me on my toes a few times. Scout could take it down a notch when speaking his mind. Spit it out, don’t use every sensual word in the dictionary haha! The sec scenes are yummy, by the way. Anyway, well done with this novel!
Tess & Scout have been best friends for years. However they have been in love with one another pretty much the whole time and neither of them knows how the other one feels but now Tess is engaged to be married soon. You can see where this could create some problems, right? Let the craziness begin!
These two characters had the quirkiest friendship that I have ever come across. Their banter was downright naughty and hilarious all at the same time. Their friendship was definitely a “special kind of friendship.”
“Maybe we should get a room, sweetheart.”
While this was a very humorous read, there was also a serious emotional side to it as well that I found very heartbreaking.
“I’m afraid, you know. I’m so scared that if you touch me…”
To know what that means you will just have to take a chance on this book.
This was a cute, funny, hot little read that was pretty entertaining.
This story is about timing and trust.... Tess and Scout have been best friends for a really long time. However, the timing has never been right for them to be a couple. Either he was in a relationship with someone else or she was.
At almost 30 years old Tess moves back home because of Scout. He's a singer, as well as owns a bar in town. She's doing work for his singing career. When they get together it's like they haven't been apart and are still best friends. But, once again, the timing isn't right. He's dating a singer and Tess is engaged.
Will the timing ever be right for these two to finally be together, after being in love for so long? If Tess, marries then where does that leave Scout, broken because her "husband" won't tolerate their "friendship". Tess has a HUGE secret that she's kept from everyone! Will Scout be able to deal with her lies?
