Only Her

Rate this book
Former SEAL sniper Cody Roberts has returned from Afghanistan with too many demons and a simple to be left alone. Working for K2 Special Services, caring for the war dogs he rescued, playing his guitar—that’s all he wants to do. But Cody is as protective as his nickname, “Dog,” suggests. A man like that can’t sit back when he realizes the beautiful veterinarian next door is being targeted by an unknown enemy.

Riley Austin is desperate to find out who’s poisoning her animal patients, and she’s stunned by her mysterious neighbor’s suggestion that it’s personal. But Cody makes her feel something else, a powerful attraction. He insists he’s no good for her, but those haunted eyes and that chiseled body tell Riley that surrendering to their mutual lust is worth the risk. And despite his conditions—no falling for each other, no regrets once it’s over—she’ll fight to love him just as fiercely as he’ll fight to save her.

Cody Roberts is home from Afghanistan, retiring as a sniper SEAL, but he can’t stop the nightmares that plaque him. He knows he’d better get a handle on them or risk his position with K2, the Security Team he works for with his former SEAL mates. The last thing Cody needs in his life is a woman, but his neighbor across the street is somehow irresistible to him, and clearly in danger.

It takes a while for the obvious to sink in: Riley is being targeted personally. At first she thought the poisoned pets showing up at her clinic were just a coincidence, but when the attacks become more personal, Riley must acknowledge there is someone out to get her. Yet, for the first time in her life, Riley doesn’t feel quite so alone knowing her dark, broody, and gorgeous neighbor, Cody, is on her side.

Cody and Riley’s romance had some bumps, as any relationship does. Cody thinking he was too screwed up to be worthy of Riley long-term, but his protests were pretty weak when you considered his actions. Riley didn’t let his reluctance stop her from taking whatever Cody could offer, and I was pleased that their setbacks were short lived and nothing over-the-top. They had a mature relationship, talking things through instead of letting hurt drive a permanent wedge between them.

I’m a huge animal lover, so really enjoyed the animals featured. Cats and dogs; each given a distinct, cute personality. Their reactions to each other were too adorable!

What kind of evil person would poison helpless pets? The villain was quite deranged and horrid, and made this story a nail biter at times. The situation only became more dangerous and sinister for Riley as the story progresses. By the end, I was on the edge of my seat with worry! Fortunately, Riley had Cody, as well as the K2 team at her back!

This is the first Sandra Owens story I’ve read, but I’d like to go back and read the other books in this series. I’m a big fan of romantic suspense and I’m always excited to find an author that can find the right balance between a thrilling, action-filled plot, and romance. Ms. Owens achieved that along with making Riley and Cody feel real and relatable.

Great ending

Great ending to the series.

Cody was so sweet yet so damaged. I really liked his character he touched my heart. It is a shame that veterans try to deal with their problems alone, feeling it is weakness to ask for help. Everyone needs help and you need to reach out and take it. I am glad Riley and the team were there for him.

You can tell the author loves animal we had some kind in all the books. My cousin trains dogs for the secret service and he was in the Air Force and trained dogs. Cody's relationship to the dogs reminded me of him. The dogs seeing action are vets too and I am glad Cody was honoring them by taking care of them.

Riley was tough and I really enjoyed her character too.

Great ending enjoyed them all. They all were similar yet original too.

Again tried to listen to it all, but had to find out what was going to happen and to wait till tomorrow....read the end again!

I’ve been a fan of Sandra Owens for quite some time. I fell in love with her Regency novel, The Letter and I have now read all her books. Only Her is an awesome end to the K2 Team series. I’m going to miss these characters! I was fortunate to receive an invitation from the publisher via Net-Galley, to read this book in exchange for an honest review. Of course, I eagerly accepted.

Cody Roberts is plagued by a horrific nightmare about events he has no memory, but he believes it may have actually happened. When he meets the neighbor across the street, he is immediately drawn to her. Although he longs for her to the depths of his soul, he feels he is unworthy of her.

Someone is poisoning pets in the neighborhood around Riley Austin’s Vet Clinic, and she is determined to save other animals from this maniac. When her new neighbor suggests it’s personal, she can’t imagine who it could be.

When attraction burns hot between them, Cody insists on rules before they start their affair. While she doesn’t like restrictions, she wonders if, for once in her life, she could go along for the chance to find a love of a lifetime.

This story is fast-paced and pulled me in from the first page and kept my interest through the entire book. I thoroughly enjoyed the tidbits about Pensacola. I actually lived there for seven years, and Ms. Owens descriptions brought back many fond memories for me.

I fell in love with Riley from the beginning. She is a truly endearing character. She had such a tragic childhood and has raised above what a lesser woman would not be able to handle. Her love of animals and her loyalty to her friends stole my heart. I could feel her pain and desperation when one of her dear cats is taken. Her ability to see Cody’s heart of gold, even when he is pushing her away touched me greatly.

Cody Roberts is a great hero. He is one of the good guys, but because he went through something while on his last mission, he fears he caused a young girl to lose her life. When he experiences the nightmare involving her, I could feel his panic and the heart-wrenching fear. I loved his honorable intentions to do what is right for Riley, even though it goes against his personal desires.

While the chemistry between Riley and Cody is blazing hot, what I truly loved was their budding friendship. Don’t misunderstand, the sensual scenes in this book are as always well-written and filled with a great mix of physicality and emotion.

If you enjoy a moving love story with a good bit of action and suspense, then you will enjoy Only Her as much as I. While this book is the end of this incredible series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone. Happy reading!

Last book in series by Sandra Owens K2
Cody Roberts (Dog) is suffering from ptsd after his last mission went terribly wrong. He leaves military and starts working for K2. His neighbours is a sexy vet that has everything he would want in a women but with his mental health as it is he doesn't want to commit to anything and then hurt her or himself.
He has dogs and the vet has cats so that's an issue before they even get started.
Loved this book especially as I'm in veterinary myself.
Absolutely gutted this series has finished really enjoyed every book.

3.5 RATING- Overall, I liked this book. The writing was very readable, the characters likable, and I liked the chemistry between them. I do think the suspense portion of the book was a bit over the top, even for me. Funny enough, I went back and looked at my review for the first book in this series and I mentioned an OTT suspense line too. Maybe that's just how the author writes her suspense. Since I only read book one and book five in this series, I'm not sure. Still, even while I rolled my eyes at some things that happened, especially at the latter half, I still enjoyed it.

Final book of the series. That makes me sad but this story had me captured from the start and crying throughout, especially toward the end...couldn't read through the tears. Cody and Riley are perfection - two broken psyches reaching out to each other. I loved this one so much.

Cody Roberts has joined the K2 Team at a time in his life when he needs purpose but he worries that his past will destroy him before he can become a true member of the team. Nightmares from his last deployment plague him nightly even though he tries to ward them off with liquor. Constant worry over his missing dog, Layla, doesn’t help even though he has the comfort of Sally and Pretty Girl. His natural talent with dogs earned him the nickname Dog. When his ability to control his dogs is questioned by the beautiful and intriguing woman living across the street, he can’t resist getting to know her, even though having a relationship with her is not in her best interest.

Riley Austin has a past that keeps her from getting too close to anyone. She has her own ghosts to deal with so when she quickly surmises that her sexy new neighbor has his too, she tries to resist his magnetic pull but can’t. With more than enough on her plate dealing with her animal patients being poisoned, she tries to put the sexy guitar playing man out of her head—without much luck.

When Riley is assaulted, her home invaded, and her cats attacked, Cody goes into full force protective mode despite his own troubles. With the help of the K2 Team, he is determined to make sure Riley is protected at all times, and solve the question of who is trying to hurt her and why. Pulling together, Cody and Riley discover that as a team they are comforting, calming, and good for each other in more ways than either expected.

ONLY HER by Sandra Owens is the final book in the K2 Team series and I am very sad to see it end…not only the series, but this book. I have loved every one in this series and after reading each one, thought Sandra couldn’t get any better but I was wrong. ONLY HER is amazing from page one straight to the end which will have you clutching tissues just as you will too many times throughout—especially if you’re an animal lover like me.

Cody and Riley are two damaged people, drawn to each other by lust and need but fall in love with a passion that you feel emanating from the pages. They become a family with their pets. It’s natural, it’s real, and the emotion is strong with this one. Cody is a romantic at heart and Riley has a hard time accepting attention or acquiescing control so he has his work cut out for him, but he succeeds where none has before with her.

ONLY HER, book five in the K2 Team series by Sandra Owens is filled with intrigue, lots of good guys, and one really off the wall crazy bad guy. There are adorable animals, angst galore, heart-wrenching scenes, steamy sexual tension plus more sexy action, plus an abundance of romantic gestures that will have you grabbing for more tissues so make sure you have them available. I highly, highly recommend ONLY HER by Sandra Owens, along with the previous four books in the K2 Team series, because this one, as well as the others, is story about falling in love, friendship, brotherhood, compassion, healing, and fun. This group is always fun. Perfect couple stories.

If you haven’t read any yet—do, and then I dare you to pick your truly absolute favorite. I can’t.

Review:
This is the fifth book of the K2 Team Novel. I have not read the other books in the series that seem to revolve around different members of a former Navy Seal team. They are now members of a special ops team that gets the job done. Plot-This book is Riley’s and Cody’s story. Riley is the veterinarian with a heart of gold that has captured the attention of former Navy Seal Cody. Cody has no intentions of starting a relationship with his new neighbor, but her feisty personality has him changing his mind. When animals start getting poisoned, and Riley is attacked. Cody seeks the aid of his team to help protect Riley. There is a sweet chemistry between the main characters even if Cody doesn’t want to get involved. The story moves along quickly and the author did a good job of keeping me interested. Good HEA ending, with good character development. This book had some humor, drama and suspense. I give it a solid 4 star rating.

Great read..

This was soooo much better than books 3 and 4. Every bit as good as 1 and 2 were. I absolutely loved Cody and Riley, and I’m glad they didn’t call him “Dog” too much in the story. That’s not a good nickname for a man.

A great story intertwining Cody’s memory loss with whoever was after Riley. And I liked their secrets and that they didn’t carry them around for the whole book. AND it was so great that the others were there, too: Logan and Dani, Jake and Maria, Saint and Sugar, and Ryan and Charlene. This has been a good series overall and I’ll miss them all.

(((One thing I’d like to say about Ms. Owens is that she has beautiful women and drop-dead gorgeous men. Unlike a lot of readers I read to get out of the real world so I don’t want to read about someone too thin, too fat, too unattractive, red hair that looks like a Brillo pad, whatever. And we’re supposed to believe a god-like guy is going to fall for them? I like fantasy but not that kind of fantasy. That’s MHO. And, yeah, I know I’m shallow because I want beautiful characters in my books.)))

I did like Sally and Pretty Girl, Cody’s dogs, and his simple verbal commands, as well as his hand signals, and how well they obeyed. AND I couldn’t wait to see what happened with Layla. His love for all three of his dogs was just amazing. LOL, since I’m not a cat person I can only say that Riley’s affection for her three cats was touching.

There is explicit sex in this book as well as swearing and the F-bomb is released 18 times.

Honestly, I wish Sandra Owens wouldn’t stop writing this series. I loved those 5 heroes!

As to the narration: Again, Amy McFadden should have done the entire book. As nice as Sebastian York’s reading voice is he didn’t do women’s voices worth a damn. A woman’s manly voice is just not a good listen.

Don't be put off by the fact that this is the last book in the series, it works well as a stand alone. I had read the first book but not the intervening ones and it was fine.

Cody and Riley were sweet together and I liked that there was no big drama or misunderstanding, just the ordinary difficulties of two people getting together romantically and sexually. Yes, Cody has PTSD and it affects his life, and yes someone is after Riley, and yes, Cody did put conditions on their relationship, but those are complications that add texture to the story and bumps, and a few gulleys, to their relationship. Cody and Riley take care of each other, respect each other, and have fun together. They accept each other while also encouraging each other. I liked the portrayal of Cody and his PTSD; it seemed realistic. Cody had PTSD but could function, albeit with difficulty. And Cody's relationship with his dogs was sweet. He could work magic with them.

Cody realizes before Riley does that she's being stalked and attacked. He tries to keep her safe and that means calling in the K2 team as he realizes he can't do it alone. I missed the clues as to the identity of the person but when it was revealed, it seemed obvious and I couldn't believe I missed it. To be honest, there were times I was more worried about the safety of Riley's cats than of Riley. What can I say, I'm a cat person. The interaction between Cody and his teammates was fun but also strong. They are there for each other whether it's a kick in the butt or a unquestioned help in a crisis.

"Only Her" was a sweet, mildly steamy, romance that kept me smiling, and I sniffled a little too.

I got this book from net gallery for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed Riley and Cody's love story.

Cody, suffers from PTSD, and his life pretty much centres around his job, drinking and his dogs. He genuinely doesn't want to drag a good woman down with his baggage but meeting Riley changes everything.

Riley, is a vet and when she sees her neighbours dogs playing outside, worried that the dogs will go into the road she shouts her concerns. Unimpressed by Cody's responses and shocked at the dogs following commands, she goes back into her house, but gives him the finger before closing the door. Their first meeting was definitely entertaining: and both felt attraction for one another.

Riley's is worried about the number of animals that have come to her practise after being poisoned. Why would someone poison random pets? To her surprise, her practise is the only one treating poisoning pets. Is she being targeted on purpose?

This was a beautiful story about a man overcoming his demons and allowing himself to be loved. I sympathised with Riley, her life had been turned upside down with all the events that occur. I loved all the familiar characters, and how easy it was to connect to them. Fantastic book and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

**** I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for a honest review*****

OMG this book was so good. I loved Cody, who doesn't love a man who is very good with animals? He is a former Navy SEAL....

Cody leaves the Navy, and he joins K2 but thing is Cody was a Sniper he has PTSD I mean who wouldn't if they served in combat? We see Cody with his two amazing dogs, his nickname is Dog. Like the Dog whisper.

Then we have Riley who is a veterinarian, who lives next store to him. Well they meet and sparks fly between them.... Some one is out to get Riley, so Cody is their for her and will do anything to protect her....

Cody, doesn't think he is good enough for Riley due to his PTSD, however when someone starts poisoning her patients dogs, and someone goes after her he sticks to her side.

He is really a sweet man, he helps her, he takes care of her, he falls for her..... Riley has her own issues, but they are prefect for each other.... They help each other, they find love together. This was just a perfect book for them two..... She helps him also, they are a great match......

There is plenty of action, suspense and the romance is off the charts.... We also see the rest of the K2 team, when Cody call's for his buddy's to help protect her....

We get caught up with their lives........

This was just a GREAT read....... You must read this, if you love this series!

4.5 Stars! Only Her is the 5th book in Sandra Owen's K2 Series but can be read as a stand alone. I'd only read the first book in the series and while I enjoyed it I wasn't driven to read the next one anytime soon. I thought I'd get around to it eventually but it wasn't a must read. I'm so glad I read this book because now I'm driven to go back and read books 2-4. I really loved this book. I'm a sucker for a books with dogs and I loved Cody and his dogs. I thought he was the perfect mix of alpha military hero with just the right amount of vulnerability and angst. The author did a great job of handling PTSD and it fit with the story instead of being something thrown in. I also loved Riley and thought she was a wonderful heroine. She was strong, tough, compassionate and most important while independent she never did anything TSTL. The romance was sweet and while there were a few sexy moments the sex was understated in this book but still enjoyable. Although I felt the villain was obvious I still enjoyed the story and enjoyed that aspect as well.

This book wasn't an edge of your seat suspense but it was an enjoyable romance with some suspense. The characters were well developed and the romance was sweet and took front and center. A truly engaging and well written book that has me looking forward to going back and reading the rest of the series.

Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for gifting me this book in return for an honest review.

¨¨Arc provided by the publisher via NetGalley for an honest review¨¨

This book was recommended by a friend and I enjoyed it.
I liked the characters and appreciated having the hero’s POV. I preferred the first part of the story, where hero and heroine are getting to know each other and dealing with the attraction –that was very well done. I specially enjoyed the kissing phase that delayed the sex: after the instantaneous attraction that was a very good strategy, it kept me interested.
The characters were wonderful: damaged people that learn to deal with their problems and act like adults. The handling of the hero’s PTSD was very good.
I also liked the supporting characters, even if sometimes the story tends to be a little cheesy with all those happily-in-love couples.
Sometimes the writing gets too detailed – I remember, for instance, telling the heroine washes her hands between procedures (she’s a veterinarian), something really not necessary.
And the animals are great side characters.
I’m grateful to the author, Sandra Owens, Montlake Romance and NetGalley for providing a free copy.

Cody Roberts is an ex SEAL sniper with PTSD. He has been offered a new job working with his old SEAL team in civvy street. So he needs to climb out of the bottle that the nightmares have driven him into. If it hadn't been for his dogs he would not have even wanted to survive.
Dr Riley Austin is a veterinarian who has worked very hard to get where she is. Brought up in the foster care system if it hadn't been for her last set of foster parents she would have not made it.
Now however someone is poisoning animals in her neighbourhood.
Cody is not looking to get involved in anyone's life, but it seems someone is out to hurt the beautiful vet. That can't be allowed to happen.
Two emotionally damaged, lonely people who pour all their love into the animals who depend on them.
This is the last of the K2 Team series, but easily read on it's own. You will meet the rest of the team with their ladies, but this book doesn't have spoilers. You could very happily read the others after this. I will. A really good romantic suspense that will pull you in on the first page and keep you glued to it all the way through. I loved it.

Only Her by Sandra Owens may be the last in a series but can be read as a stand-alone without missing out on anything. It’s a nice, light, quick romantic suspense novel. Tough guys, smart women, damaged people, a mystery and threat…all the things you want in a romantic suspense.

Cody and Riley have an instant attraction and both are somewhat damaged from their pasts. Thankfully they don’t waste a lot of time with denying their feelings for one another and they’re actually fairly forthcoming with their darkest secrets and what has left them damaged.

It’s also refreshing that the subject of Cody’s PTSD is handled swiftly because he has a support system, no one thinks less of him and he gets competent professional help.

Sally and Pretty Girl may be my favorite characters, there should be actual people that are that loyal and protective. Bonus points for naming them after Clapton songs!

This is the first time I have read a book by Sandra Owens and I will admit that I liked the story. I thought that Cody was a wonderfully broken and loveable hero and Riley was a spunky, intelligent heroine.

I will be honest, about 60% I figured out the villain, I mean its pretty obvious...but that didn't sway me from enjoying the book. Sometimes the ride is just as important as the destination, and I did enjoy this ride. I like to see our military hero's overcome their obstacles and find love. It just makes me all warm and tingly inside. Oh and my heroines, I always do a happy dance when there is a head strong, intelligent heroine in a book. Boy is Riley a handful.

The sexy times are mild and not frequent. The romance is heart warming, It is a PG13 (in my opinion) romance. There is romance and sexy times to make a point without being over the top (which can be good too sometimes!).

I enjoyed all the characters enough that I will look for more books in the K2 Team series. I thought this was an entertaining read and I will read more by Ms. Owens.

Out standing

This book was my favorite in the series. There was less push pull push pull and more flirting in this book. The connection between the characters was believable and I really enjoyed reading from both POV.

Once again I found myself laughing and crying. The storyline was well thought out.

My favorite part was the epilogue. I loved how the author summed up all five books and all their characters.

This was a wonderful series and I recommend Reading all five books in order. Even though book one and two weren't as good as books three through five, still in amazing series.

It's sad but lovely. Cody n Riley were broken, may be they still are but having each other on their side, hope the broken will heal n they will have a happy life that they deserved.

No one wants to be unwanted, especially kids. They were the product of love, they deserve unconditional love, however someone didn't.

Solider who protects his country deserves respect, they were hurt, physical, mentally and....

It's lovely one but my heart still hurt.

Wow, bring it!!

This was a great ending to the series. Can't wait to see what Sandra beings next. Cody has some demons that he needs to face. Riley has had a hard life, but made something from it. That past come back to get her. Does Cody save the day? This book is a fun easy read. I did have the bad guy figured out before the end but still an enjoyable read.

Only Her is a pretty good book. I read it all in one sitting. It's a good thing fiction is fiction and does not necessarily have to be true to life, as some of the scenarios were a bit far-fetched in the believe-ability category. But overall, it held my attention and I enjoyed it from start to finish. The romance story was good, not too graphic and the story line was a good one.

Only Her was a sexy suspense, with lots of appearances from the former couples in the series and the cutest pets.

Riley is a veterinarian whose patients are showing up poisoned. With no clue if it’s intentional or the motive behind it, the police can’t do much about it. She’s completely devoted to her job, her patients and her pets and was almost singled minded in her pursuit of realizing her lifelong dream of opening an animal clinic.

Cody is finally ready to start his job at K2 Special Services after getting his ass kicked into gear by his former commander. Well, as ready as he’ll ever be with all the shit going on in his head after his last tour in Afghanistan. His dogs are the only thing keeping him waking up in the mornings and not completely drowning himself in whiskey.

One look at the sassy neighbor from the house across the street and saving her from being run over will soon give him new reasons to take on the day.

Riddled with nightmares and some family issues makes Cody think himself unsuitable to start anything with Riley. Their chemistry is just too strong to ignore, and she makes him question everything he believes about himself.

“They’d get around to crazy monkey sex soon enough. Tonight, though, he wanted gentle and tender, not only for her, but for himself.”

Riley had a very sad childhood growing up in foster care and jumping from house to house. Being witness to a lot of bad, forced Riley to become almost incapable of trusting and relying on other people. That is why she finds the feelings that Cody awake in her so surprising, and so hard to resist.

Two lost souls that will find in each other exactly what they needed but didn’t know to dream for. Both their relationships with their pets, Cody with his dogs and Riley with her cats, were for me one of the highlights of this story.

I found that some things were repeated throughout the story, be that a thought or explanation, which I found tiresome. I’m not saying I could win an award in those memory competitions thingies, but I don’t need to be reminded of what I just read in the previous chapter 15 minutes ago. The same as with Riley’s thought process whenever a pet would show up poisoned… if I had to read one more time “who would try to harm such helpless, cute creatures” I think I would have gone crazy.

I loved how the team at K2 forced Cody to deal with his issues by supporting him 1000% in everything and reminding him of their brotherhood. I also found it lovely how they all accepted Riley once Cody realizes what he had in her and how all the wives also took to make her feel comfortable instantly.

I enjoyed how the author interwove all the previous couples into this story while not allowing them to overshadow the relationship development between Riley and Cody. Their relationship was really fun and sweet to see it evolve; I liked enormously how they brought out the best in the other and how it made them want to fight at the chance of being happy together, in spite of the risks.

All in all, Only Her was a great love story with precious pets and a bit of suspense and action, hot shenanigans and great friendships.

Only Her is Book 5 in Sandra Owen’s K2 Series. Each book is written about a different couple and each book can be read as a standalone.
Book 1 Crazy for Her-Logan & Dani
Book 2 Someone Like Her-Jake & Maria
Book 3 Falling For Her-Jamie & Sugar
Book 4 Lost In Her-Ryan & Charlie
Book 5 Only Her-Cody & Riley

Cody Roberts is a SEAL sniper who has just started the K2 team. He owns two very well trained dogs, who are helping him deal with nightmares, flash backs and PTSD after serving in Afghanistan.

Riley Austin is the local vet who has been treating several pets that have been poisoned. The first time Cody and Riley officially meet is quite cute.

“Has it not occurred to you that your dogs might run into the road and get hit?” “Yep, he said. Call them.”

Don’t turn around, Riley. She turned. “What?”

“Call them. The ugly one is Pretty Girl and the black and tan one is Sally. Call them by name.”

“Riley glanced up and down the street to make sure there were no oncoming cars. Okay, she’d show him what an idiot he was by playing his stupid game. “Pretty Girl, Sally, come here.” She clapped and crooned to them. They both ran to the edge of the sidewalk, sat their butts on the ground, and swept their tails across the grass. No matter how much she cajoled, they came no farther. Well, that was embarrassing, and the amusement in the man’s eyes grated.”

“My bad,” she said as she slinked back to her house. At hearing his low chuckle, she lifted her hand and gave him her middle finger.”

There is an extra special relationship between Cody and his dogs. He has to board them with Riley at her clinic and they way in which he spoke to his dogs was heartwarming.

“He squatted in front of them. “I’ll come back for you, I promise,” he said, a hand on each of their heads. ”You be good for Riley, or I’ll take your balls away for a week.” At the word “balls” both dogs’ ears perked up.”
“From the bag, Cody removed four balls, two large bone chews, and a tug rope. The dogs eyed the balls with longing. “Not yet,” Cody said. “We’re not done talking. I for some reason I don’t come back, it doesn’t mean I don’t love you. It just means…” He bowed his head.”

Cody starts to suspect that the poisoned pets and the car that tried to run Riley over are related. After several incidents, Riley starts to realize he may be right. His SEAL training takes over and he enlists the help of the rest of the K2 team to help investigate. Even though I figured out the person responsible early, the story line was still worth reading.

Cody sets two conditions to starting a relationship with Riley. No falling for each other and no regrets once it’s over. What Cody doesn’t realize is Riley hates conditions and rules. She spent her life in foster care going from a bad situation to a bad situation so she has spent her life breaking the rules.

This was a solid 4 star book full of great chemistry, suspense and action. This is the first book I have read in the series but each couple in the previous books makes an appearance so I will be reading the other books to get to know them better. This is a great series.

I've been in a weird reading mood for the last few months. It's not a reading slump, but I've been struggling  with finding books that make me want to read them. Lately, I just end up browsing Audible, or my library's digital ebook selections looking for something new. That's how I discovered Only Her by Sandra Owens. It's a romantic suspense, about a former SEAL who works with dogs and a veterinarian, and one of the narrators was Sebastian York, and we all know how fabulous he is. I thought, this is perfect for me. Unfortunately, even with Sebastian York narrating half the book, Only Her by Sandra Owens was just a "meh" book.

The hero of Only Her is Cody Roberts, who was a SEAL sniper, which has understandably left him with some issues. He worked with dogs while overseas, but one dog went missing, and he's missing this one dog so much. He does still have two other dogs that he loves, but he feels a lot of guilt over leaving the other there, and he's hoping some of his buddies will find her. I did like that about Cody - his love for his dogs. A man who loves his pets and animals in general is pretty attractive. But other than that, Cody just didn't really inspire many feelings in me. I will say that I loved Sebastian York's narrating, though, and through his narration I probably ended up liking Cody more than had I been reading the print version of Only Her.

Cody is Riley's new neighbor, which is how they meet. Riley hasn't had an easy life, having grown up in foster care. But she's gotten her life together, and she's now a vet. Obviously she loves animals, too, which I loved. But I found Riley to be sort of stupid. Even though it's obvious that someone is out to hurt her, she doesn't believe it for the longest time. The narrator for Riley's part of the book, Amy McFadden, wasn't my favorite, and that didn't help me like Riley any more.

The romance was pretty standard, but it wasn't bad, per se. I just didn't care that much about Cody and Riley that much to actually care about whether they got together or not. I did find the suspense angle super easy to figure out, and I did wonder why it took them that long to figure out who the baddie was.

Only Her certainly isn't a bad book, but it really isn't great either, in my opinion. There are better romances out there. This review was originally posted on Quinn's Book Nook

There’s nothing like starting a five book series right at the very end. To be honest, I read the blurb, saw ex-SEAL, dogs and veterinarian and I was sold. (Sometimes I am a very simple soul.) And despite this book being the last one out of five, I followed along without any problems. So if, like me, you’ve somehow missed this series until now, don’t worry – if you like the sound of this book, go for it.

I loved Cody. He has a lot going on in his head, some of which he doesn’t understand, but I loved the way he treated his dogs, Pretty Girl and Sally, and the whole tough guy playing his guitar in the dark to express his feelings completely worked for me. He’s also protective, kind, smart and sexy – and not too stubborn to realise he needs help, even if he only agrees because he wants to keep working with his friends. It doesn’t matter why he gets help, only that he does.

I liked Riley too, for the most part. She’s strong and determined and a brilliant vet. I loved her cats and the way she coaxes Cody into her life. Well, coax isn’t entirely right considering how she grabs his attention, but although the chemistry between them is undeniable, I really liked how she drew him closer emotionally as well.

The suspense side of things I wasn’t as fond of, partly because Riley’s obliviousness to what’s going on got on my nerves. Then there is the big obvious answer staring them all in the face. Since Riley has no self-awareness, I can see why she missed it, but Cody should have twigged sooner. It’s so obvious! As for the way Riley reacts to certain things towards the end… it’s not always about you, Riley! Grow up.

Despite my annoyance about that side of things, I really enjoyed this. The romance is a good mix of sweet and mildly sexy, has some good chemistry and plenty of issues on both sides. I also really liked getting to know the other K2 characters. They don’t really play a major role here, which is likely why I could follow along so easily, but it definitely left me wanting to know more about them all.

So if you like your romantic suspense to be heavier on the romance, you will likely enjoy this. Especially if beautifully behaved dogs and cute cats are your thing. True, the last couple of chapters were almost unbearable in their cheesiness, but overall this was a highly enjoyable read. I’ll definitely be checking out the rest of the series some time to catch up on all that I’ve missed.

This poignant, heartbreaking, touching story took my breath away. It was so beautifully written, the story so enticing, I couldn't put it away, until the end. I don't know how this series got past me, and I didn't find out about it until the last book came out, but the fact that it was the series finale, and I hadn't read any of the stories published before, didn't make a difference to how I enjoyed the tale.
Cody and Riley stole my heart. Their brokenness, the shattered souls they both had, the overwhelming sadness from their past experiences could have made them be a completely different kind of people. Yet they thrived to do their best, to hold on to life, to keep on trying, to be honest, loyal, and open, and to try so hard to find peace, happiness, and balance in their lives. Their love for their furry friends was endearing, the way they cared for each other, stood up for each other and were willing to go great lengths to help each other touched my heart. It felt like I was holding my breath through half of the story, just hoping that they could make it, cheering them on, and wishing the best for them.
Because it is not an easy road they are on, the obstacles are humongous, the only way to remove them takes a lot of time, effort, and patience. And if it were just the inner demons they are fighting against for, but the outside forces seem to be against them as well, and aiming for a kill.
The effects of a war on a human soul are expressed vividly. The brotherhood of the team, always there for each other, taking care of their own, was like a beam of light through the tale.
And it wasn't all sadness and inner turmoil, that fueled the story, there was humor, laughs, loving and passion as well. There were moments of bliss and glee, tenderness and joy, fear and danger, utter devastation and silver light of hope.
The character development in the story is so well done, the steps they have to take, the goals they need to achieve, reached with utter determination. I fell for Cody and Riley as they were introduced and just kept falling for them even deeper, as their story advanced. I felt the hope they had for their future and the depth of their feelings for each other.
This is one of those stories that will stay with you for a very long time. I cherished every moment as I was reading it, I adored the characters and felt their anguish and elation, the story flew out of the pages so smoothly, and I didn't want it to end. What an amazing, touching story this is. Highly recommended!
