A number of excellent accounts from Theodore's experience as a naturalist, conservationist and, of course, hunter. My favorite was "A Colorado Bear Hunt" where he recounts a number of bear tales but waxes poetic about the bird life he encounters on the trip. I didn't like the use of dogs to harry and assault the bears before shooting which occurred on a number of these adventures. TR himself had misgivings about it too if I recall correctly. I did like the reference to Skip, the "black and tan" (coonhound?) who Roosevelt fell in love with and the affection was returned to the point that " I took him home with me as a playmate for the children." Those lucky kids at Sagamore Hill. A worthy read for the outdoor types out there and fans of a truly "Renaissance Man."
