Keys for Coaching and Parenting ADHD Affected Athletes, with suggestions, tips and techniques for understanding, communicating with, coaching and parenting ADHD affected athletes.
The title sounds a bit more formal than the nature of the content. This was a quick and casual, yet inspiring read...geared mostly towards parents and coaches of elementary through high school sports.
This book was written with the ADHDer in mind in all aspects as a primer for ADHD and sports. It has a large font, plenty of short paragraphs, and doesn’t get bogged down in any distractions.
If you’re looking for an in depth book, full of detailed and rambling discourse, or length scientific explanations and coaching methods, this isn’t it.
For the parent or coach who wants to inspire a new way of thinking about and seeing ADHD, and a launch point for the types of strategies that would help...this is perfect. It will give you a fresh perspective and some general ideas to begin building effective coaching strategies.
I think it would be particularly useful for parents with a child that has been newly diagnosed ADHD, or ones considering how sports could play a part as an outlet for all that energy!
It would also suit busy coaches (particularly on the recreational level) with a very quick pep talk about some overall strategies to focus on for the greatest success. Since there’s not a lot of details, you’ll still need to have existing coaching knowledge or do much more research into the suggested methods. But, if you already have a grasp of this—it will help you align where you’re on track in a brief summary, or a starting point to learn more.
