Iron Eagle Gym #2

The Perfect Sub

Rate this book
Sequel to The New Boy
An Iron Eagle Gym Novel

While new couple Tide and Lance spend time deepening their relationship and further introducing Lance to the joys and vagaries of being a sub, established couple Tyrone and Bran discover that they still have a thing or two to learn as well.

A new job finds Bran run off his feet, and a visit to the eye doctor leads to the discovery of a brain tumor. Bran is terrified. He strives to be the perfect sub for his beautiful master and sees the tumor as a personal failing as he tries to handle every last phone call, e-mail, and text that comes in, no matter how early or late. When Tyrone finally finds out about the tumor Bran’s been keeping a secret, he realizes he’s been taking his sub for granted, and he works to rediscover his boy and their relationship. Of course, that’s easier said than done given that Bran’s job is taking up all his time and he would rather pretend the tumor just doesn’t exist than actually deal with it.

It's going to take all of Tyrone’s prowess as a master to help guide Bran through these troubled waters.

Often referred to as "Space Cowboy" and "Gangsta of Love" while still striving for the moniker of "Maurice," Sean Michael spends his days surfing, smutting, organizing his immense gourd collection and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs. While collecting vast amounts of vintage gay pulp novels and mood rings, Sean whiles away the hours between dropping the f-bomb and persuing the kama sutra by channeling the long lost spirit of John Wayne and singing along with the soundtrack to "Chicago."

A long-time writer of complicated haiku, currently Sean is attempting to learn the advanced arts of plate spinning and soap carving sex toys.

Barring any of that? He'll stick with writing his stories, thanks, and rubbing pretty bodies together to see if they spark.

It was good to visit with the four men from ‘The New Boy’ again and see how they are doing now that Lance and Tide are as much as couple as Bran and Tyrone have been for a while. Lance and Tide are still learning, but as the story develops it becomes obvious that Bran and Tyrone also have their issues. Spending about equal time with both couples was great, and seeing them interact on different levels added some extra information and details that was interesting and fun. Both couples are insanely hot, they tend to work through their issues during scenes, so the level of naughtiness is high throughout the book.

Since I have first read Sean Michael I have grown in my literary knowledge. I truly believe that a story doesn't need 50 million "I love you's OR Love" every time the characters interact with each other. To me Sean Michael doesn't have a problem coming up with a great storyline but learning how not to ham it up so much where you are like "OMG not again."

A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words Review An Alisa Audiobook Review:

Rating: 2 stars out of 5

I am usually a fan of Sean Michael’s books but this one did not work for me and it was a combination of elements in the story and narration that made it even worse. Bran and Lance both had so much trouble throughout the first part of the book thinking that they weren’t “worthy” of their masters and that is one dynamic that doesn’t work for me along with the focus on perfection and people looks. In the end the focus on being perfect was pushed aside for being partners and perfect for each other which was nicer. Other than that I had a hard time following the timeline in the story but I’m sure if that was from not having the story in front of me to see or not.

Unfortunately I can’t really say that Jeff Gelder did a nice job narrating the story. He used different voices for each character but they would change throughout the story and then the character described as having a “deep sexy voice” had a very feminine lilt and soft voice most of the time. He tried really hard to make it sound sensual but I just got the feeling that I was listening to a bad porno. I think it’s safe to say that this story did not work for me, maybe at some point I can go back and try to read it and see if I don’t have quite the same opinion of it but it won’t be anytime soon.

Cover art by L.C. Chase is nice and goes with the series.

The Perfect Sub (Iron Eagle Gym #2) by Sean Michael
4 stars
M/M BDSM, Romance
Triggers: Health scare
I was given this book for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.

This was a good story, but not great for me. I really enjoyed the first book and was slightly let down with this one.

Tide and Lance's relationship is a sexual as ever and they are still learning to trust in each other. Despite Lance's reservations, he learns that he can enjoy spending time with Tide at the Iron Eagle Gym. I thought it was so sweet that Tide wanted Lance to feel comfortable with himself, in the knowledge that Tide found Lance's physique appealing, despite Lance feeling like a bean pole.

I wish that we would have gotten more photo sessions in this one, as those were always hot.

Then you have Bran and Tyrone's relationship. They seem to struggle a bit more in this story, despite seeming like the more established relationship. Bran has lost his trust in himself and his Dom. When he finds himself in denial about what's happening around him, it takes a strong, firm, loving Dom - Tyrone, to bring him back to himself. Tyrone questions his ability to care for Bran when he finds out after the fact from Bran, about the health issue he is facing. The scenes of bringing them back together - seriously hot.

What I didn't enjoy about this story as much, and I can't believe I am going to say this, is that there was almost too many sex scenes. It seemed like they were scattered all over and that was the majority of the book. I wish the story had been more in-depth - less about their pleasure and more about real life.

However, it was a good story and I always enjoy books by Sean Michael.

Wow......What can I say about The Perfect Sub...but damn I cried through parts of this.....A first by Sean for me.....I loved getting back to Tide and Lance they are so perfect together....Lance is really coming out of his shell.....Tyrone and Bran.....now these two broke my heart...Bran wants to be the perfect sub but he doesn't realise that no one is perfect but trying your best is just about perfect....When Tyrone found out about his tumour...omg.....tears.....This was done really well but it was still tense and stressful waiting to find out if Bran was going to be ok....Tyrone just didn't want to lose his man.....This was a perfect read appropriately named The Perfect Sub x

This book was not for me!
Did not like Tyrone personality in this book, it was not the same impression I got from him in the first book, and I found myself wanting Bran to tell him to fuck of!

The only reason I give it 3 stars is the Tide and Lance have such a big role in the book.
LOVE Tide and Lance ;-)

By mistake I have read first the third book of series and then The Perfect Sub and while I loved The Luckiest Master ,less this. I can understand why the story of Lance and Tide is parallel to that of Bram and Tyron , in inverse sense though, I would preffered more space for Bram and Tyron. Needless , tell as the Tyron's behavior is bad and insensitive toward Bram : love, mine, yours, we, are only words told without significance, because he didn't saw the distress in Bram. So also the great sex scenes are seem cold .

All that talk about perfect got on my nerves. Everyone was so obsessed about being perfect. Having the perfect body, perfect life, perfect job, perfect everything. It was a bit too cold and off putting for me. There were nice moments as well, but those were in the shadow of all the perfect stuff...

Had to skim a lot. I was looking forward to Bran and Tyrone’s story so I wasn’t sure why Lance and Tide received almost half the page time. I was bored with them from book one and it didn’t enhance the story at all. Would have enjoyed this more if it stayed focused on Bran and Tyrone.

Continuing on where The New Boy left off, The Perfect Sub is centered around established pair Tyrone and Branan, with TNB’s Tide and Lance serving as the primary peripheral characters. Ty and Bran are happily in love, and Bran’s ability to organize the world around him has garnered him a position of authority in the Iron Eagle Gym. The pair also acts as ambassadors for the gym at various events, and they must follow strict eating habits in order to maintain their physiques, something that causes some struggles. Unfortunately, Bran has horrific headaches that send him to the doctor with his new best friend Lance, where he learns he has a tumor pressing on his optic nerve. Swearing Lance to secrecy, Bran’s options regarding treatment are shoved aside so that he can continue to be The Perfect Sub. Even though Ty knows something is going on, Bran’s refusal to share could have catastrophic results.

This story touched me in a multitude of ways. Tyrone’s love for and devotion to Bran are palpable, as are Bran’s for Ty. However, Bran’s insecurities about his physical appearance and resultant overall attraction as he ages , as well as the potential fallout if the other subs’ gossip mongering proves to be true, are an accurate representation of the inner feelings a lot of people have about getting older. Will I still be loveable? Will he still want me? Will he think he can do better? Will I be left alone and heartbroken? My heart wept for Bran for not being able to fully embrace Ty’s love, as well as for Ty in that he was completely unaware of his sub’s devastating inner monologue.

The premise of the story is solid – Bran trying to be everything for his Master to the point of ignoring his own physical conditions, and the struggles of the two men who, even after having had a solid relationship, are still learning about each other. The pacing drove me bonkers, but that is due to my own impatience, and is absolutely no reflection on the author – it is written beautifully. I really enjoyed how strong the chemistry between the pair was even though it was an established relationship. There was zero doubt of their attraction to each other, and the physical scenes were smoking hot!

Watching the growth of this pair into a stronger whole while getting sneak peeks into the continuation of Tide and Lance’s relationship was a wonderful experience. 4.5 stars of you must read this!

This book is a really hard one for me to write up a review for. I actually finished the book a few weeks ago, but trying to figure out how to put into words what I thought about it is the tough part.

I really enjoyed book 1 in the series, and so I couldn’t wait to start reading this one.

First off, I loved that the author kept Tide and Lance in this story! It was great to be able to catch up with them and see as they are still learning the limits on their new relationship. I was also excited to get to know more about Bran and Tyrone because they really caught my attention in book 1.

Tide and Lance are a great couple and watching them grow in this book was great. Lance was still over-coming his fears of not being good enough for Tide. Bran is a GREAT friend to Lance. The two of them together were great to read and you could tell it was they wanted to be friends, not just felt like they had to be because of their boyfriends.

Bran — I felt so sorry for him! With everything that he has going on, and he was still trying to do everything else. It really seemed like he was completely on his own with dealing with everything.

Which brings me to Tyrone. He completely ruined this book for me. Even when you could tell that Bran was stressed and wasn’t feeling well, instead of finding out what was wrong or even showing that he cared about Bran in the slightest, he kept pushing Bran to be “perfect”. When Bran was sick because he was hungry, instead of letting him eat, Tyrone just told him to wait a few days and he could eat carbs again. And when it came to the relationship between Tyrone and Lance, it did seem like Tyrone was trying to like Lance, and to be friendly, but his inner thoughts? It showed that he doesn’t care about Lance. When Lance offered to help promote the gym, and Tyrone was thinking that he didn’t want someone like Lance wearing one of the gym shirts? Yeah totally turned me off him.

Will I keep reading this series? Probably because I do want to see what the author has in store for the future of the gym. But for this book and me personally? I just couldn’t enjoy it because of Tyrone.

This book is basically a continuous of book one. It pretty much picks up where book one ended. The only difference is there is more of Bran And Tyrone's point of view through out this book along with Lance and Tide.

In this book I was able to see that Lance and Tide where able to feel more comfortable in their relationship. I feel that theirs is more of a relationship and less based around the BDSM lifestyle. I feel like they practice parts of the BDSM lifestyle but they r definitely not 24/7. I feel like each day that passes Lance was more comfortable in his own skin and that Tide is really good for Lance because Lance feels like he has the freedom to be himself and enjoy his desires because Tide supports him in his choices. They really are a great couple in my opinion.

Tyrone and Bran have been together for a long time in what I would definitely say is a 24/7 Dom/Sub lifestyle. They know each other's wants and needs but I feel like they have gotten complacent in their relationship and do not realize they are not meeting each other's emotional needs any longer but instead only the physical needs. Don't get me wrong they are still a very much strong couple in my opinion but I feel like maybe they are too comfortable with each other and I believe that Brans tumor scare is exactly what they needed even though I wish I could have happened in a better way.

Bran and Tyrone have to reevaluate their relationship and make changes and I believe this is a very good thing we're their relationship is concerned and I have no doubt that hey will continue to be a very strong, loving couple in future books in this series.

I cannot wait till the next one comes out if their is a next one that is. I enjoyed getting to know these two couples and hope to read more about them in the future.

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

I much preferred this second book in the Iron Eagle Gym series to the first. There is still the copious amounts of hot sex that are the norm for a Sean Michael book but there was more story this time round and I felt like I got to know the characters much more.

The Perfect Sub concentrates on the same four men from book 1. Both couples have settled into their respective relationships of Master and Sub. Lance is still seen as the new boy, he is still unsure of himself, still hides behind his camera and out of the four is the least sure of himself. His Master Tide is very aware of how Lance operates and props him up when needed, pushes him when required and the two are forming a deep bond that works well for them both.

The more established couple of Tyrone and Bran isn’t working so well. Bran has this innate need to be the perfect sub and he loses sight of the fact that that isn’t the person Tyrone fell in love with. He pushes himself to unrealistic expectations and when his health becomes a problem his perfect life starts to crumble. It takes a long time for Bran to be honest with the people in his life that are the most important and it hits Tyrone hard, he believes that he has failed in his role as Master and it causes them to both pause and evaluate their life together.

This is a fun read for the most part with a good dose of kink and a lot of hot sex. I have to admit to being curious about the elusive boss and I wonder whether he will make an appearance at some point in the series.

When you read a Sean Michael book you always know there’s going to be some serious steamy sex! It’s a guarantee! And Sean is quite creative with the sex. You kind of have to be when there’s so much of it. I did find there was a bit too much in this book. Normally I love it in Sean Michael’s books. I felt with the situation what it was with Bran and his health issue and the fragility of his relationship with his Dom Tyrone, some of the sex was misplaced. Like it was sex for the sake of sex and it just sort of didn’t fit for me. But that is really my only problem. The characters are fabulous! Tide and Landon are as perfect as ever for each other. I love how they complement each other in all aspects of their relationship. Tide’s constant building of Landon’s ego is breathtaking and it always makes me smile.

Sex is very hot and as I said before, creative. Sean knows how to right the lusty parts very well. This is a BDSM story and it’s got very serious situations within the tale. Tyrone and Bran’s relationship is established and showing how stability can fracture and crumble and in the end rebuild is really wonderful. Commitment, marriage, whatever you do to solidify your relationship doesn’t mean it’s always happily ever after and in The Perfect Sub, Sean shows that very well.

This is book 2 in the Iron Eagle Gym Series. We see the journey of two couples. Ty and Bran are happy and in love. Ty and Bran has authority at the gym and with comes strict habits to keep themselves in check with their body. When Bran gets a new position at the Gym as front manager, he starts to run himself ragged. When he starts to notice that he is getting more and headaches and pain in his eyes. Bran starts to fear that changes are coming and he will let down Ty and maybe not want him anymore. We see the Journey that Bran takes with all his insecure about his eyes. Will Ty love and devotion to their relationship help Bran see the way to get help? Love to see the strength of love we see coming from Bran and Ty. The relationship and bumps that Tide and Lance are going through is off to a wonderful start. Highly recommend this book and series today

This was more than just a BDSM story. The love and respect between these couples was amazing. I enjoyed how the story was multi-person POV. Bran was just adorable and his fears were real. It took Tyrone to go back to basics and show the love of his life, his true love. It was scary knowing the secret Bran was keeping until Tyrone stepped in. I enjoy that these two set of couples are friends and can open and honest and flirtatious with each other. You could feel the continuing developing relationship between Tide and Lance. The sex was not only hot but the compassion for each other could be felt. My only issue was that the actual problem of the brain tumor was identified late in the story and resolved quite quickly. I would have liked to have read more about the conflict and feel Tyrone’s fear of the possibility of losing Bran more than I did. I do hope we get to see more of these fabulous men.

I love that there is another story in the Iron Eagle Gym series! This time we are learning more about Bran and Tyrone. This series should be read in order because people we know and love from the first book are back too. The Perfect Sub by Sean Michael, this one I felt was about learning to trust that things will work out is the theme. Bran is a sub. When he gets a brain tumor, instead of telling his Dom Tyrone. He hides it from him. But in doing so he went against his very nature to submit and let Tyrone handle things. Bran thinks he has to be perfect like all the time. He soon learns no one is perfect all the time.
Tyrone is learning about himself too. What kind of Dom is he really? And is he enough for his boy? I liked that someone as strong as Tyrone can have a really soft compassionate side to him. He also unleashes the best punishments.
Over all this is a heart wrenching read that I could not stop reading. I love the Iron Eagle Gym men and I hope there are many more stories to come with them in it.

This was a really excellent book by Sean Michael. This is far from the first book I’ve read by this author and can’t say I was every disappointed. In this book we focus mainly on Bran and Tyrone but still have time seeing how Tide and Lance are building their relationship. This story didn’t just have BDSM and sex; it was quite clearly a love story. No it was not your typical love story but Sean Michael was able to show you that love can blossom anywhere as long as you nurture it. That obvious became the problem with Bran and Tyrone. It was great to see them work through their problems and overcome them. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves BDSM but HOT sex but you most definitely get both in this book.

Chock full of hot steamy sex, this book also has lots of heart. We met both Bran and Tyrone and Tide and Lance in the first book of the series. This book seems to pick up right at the end of that book. We see Tide and Lance growing closer and closer. Bran and Tyrone who have been together for years seem to drift a little but nothing really noticeable for either of them or really even the reader until Bran gets bad news from the doctor. I just love how these two couples are always so loving and affectionate to each other not only as couples but as friends too. I hope there will be another book in the series, I love these two couples and I am not ready to say goodbye to them yet.

Both couples are learning to have fun and relax together. Lance and Tide are taking their relationship deeper and learning more ways to share. Bran is trying to be perfect that he neglects himself on his quest to please. Tyrone is caring and committed but it takes a scare to make him really open his eyes to all that is happening in their lives. It feels real to see a Dom make mistakes and go to his friend to get help and advise. We also get to see that no matter how dedicated and wrapped up in his master life a sub is he still needs time to connect with his friends and have their own down time. This books is really about how important all kinds of relationships are and everyone has to keep the lines of communication open.

Another Sean Michael wonder

MM masterpiece

I found and fell in love with Sean Michael when he was publishing under Torquere Press. While waiting for him to shift his books over to Amazon I tried out other MM authors but found most to be lacking. Sean has a way of capturing a beautiful snapshot of a couple's journey. Every story is strong in terms of plot and character development but I truly love the consensual sexual relationship Sean writes. He showcases the beauty that is a healthy BDSM relationship that is defined by safe, sane, and consensual.

Anytime I delve into a Sean Michael book I just know there are lots of sexy times ahead and this book was no exception. Anyone who’s read the first book in this series, The New Boy, will recognize the main characters in this next installment as Tide, Lance, Tyrone and Bran all return for a second round of pumping iron…in a variety of ways.
