Escape into addictive, sexy, emotional queer M/M romance. A.D. Ellis is an Indiana girl, born and raised. Review of Kendrick, Torey Hope: The Later Years by A.D. Ellis
Review done for Hooked on Books
4 ½ out of 5 stars
Kendrick Jordan has always been a funny, happy guy. He has never wanted to have a steady relationship with a woman, preferring to sleep with as many as he can.
The free-spirit attitude unfortunately is just a mask for all the pain he hides. The loss he suffered as a teenager has scarred him for life. He just seems to keep sinking.
When he meets Jay, he thinks he is going to just be having his first threesome with her and another guy. He is curious about sex with a man. While it was enjoyable he can’t seem to fight his attraction to Jay. They agree to casual sex, but Kendrick has his own plans.
Jay Keller doesn’t know what love is. She has never received real love and never wants to give it either. Everyone always ends up leaving her.
She tries really hard to keep her feelings buried, but the gorgeous guy who is determined to spend time with her is getting under her skin. She just may be ready to take a chance.
Everything spins out of control fast. Painful situations arise causing a lot of grief that just may break them apart.
This story was fantastic. What a great family that Kendrick has. There were many sensitive issues in this book that the author wrote about. I think she did an amazing job making it all very realistic. The story flowed perfectly and there were a lot of things happening throughout the book that kept me interested all the way through.
This is the first book I have read by this author and do I ever feel like I have been missing out. This book was fantastic and the characters were all wonderful. I am going to read all the other books in this series and the ones before.
I definitely recommend this book and series to read.
I really enjoyed this book, it’s not your typical romance novel and it has a few ménage scenes that make it extra interesting. This is the only book I’ve read in the series and I didn’t feel I was missing anything by not having read the previous books.
Kendrick has had a rough past that he’s not been able to get over. His high school sweetheart committed suicide and when the autopsy was completed they discovered that she was pregnant when she died. Kendrick has been living with this knowledge for several years but has never told his family about the pregnancy so they’ve never been able to work through this with him. Now Kendrick is living life a bit lost, and partying all the time. His family has staged an intervention to let him know they’re giving him 1 more week of partying then they expect him to come home, get cleaned up and start seeing a therapist. As his last hoorah he meets a woman, Jay, in a bar who wants Kendrick to join her and her friend Tony for a night. Kendrick develops feelings for Jay and wants to continue a relationship after the one night. When Jay breaks some crazy news to Kendrick she expects him to head for the hills but he stays by her side with promises of never leaving. When Kendrick gets himself into trouble with pain pills his family and Jay do everything they can to help him through but Kendrick fights them tooth and nail and Jay isn’t sure she can stay by his side through it all.
I love Kendrick! Even though he makes the dumbest decisions ever with his pain pills he loves Jay and does everything he can to keep her happy. Kendrick faces the mistakes he’s made and does everything he can to get himself clean for Jay. The writing is great in this book and I enjoyed the storyline as well as the other characters. I’ll definitely be checking out the other books in this series!
I have LOVED LOVED LOVED the Torey Hope and Torey Hope: The Later Years series', swearing that each book is my favorite, but OMG! A.D. Ellis saved the best for last with Kendrick's story! Kendrick Jordan has run away from his family as the demons if his past started to seriously overwhelm him. During his time of space, he meets Jay Keller, who doesn't believe in love, and will not allow herself to get attached to anyone. They hook up, and keep hooking up with no strings attached. Kendrick finally quits running, goes home, and decides he wants more from Jay. When a life altering decision needs to be made, she turns to him, and they decide to give it a go. As it grows into love, a traumatic accident starts an avalanche of events that threatens to destroy everything they have built.
WOW! This author raised the ante with each new book, so I wasn't sure if I wanted to cry, yell, or cuss her out. The character development is perfectly on target, with all the past cast of characters adding that extra sparkle, especially with the hysterically funny, well placed humor that had me spitting out my drink. An intense, emotionally charged, and very well written storyline flows effortlessly. A.D. Ellis' talented writing style always has all the elements for an amazingly well rounded story, and I do feel she took up the hotness factor with SCORCHIN' HOT, ruined panties worthy sexy scene goodness. I LOVE this author, so I definitely HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO EVERYONE!
This book was not what I expected. It started and ended in a manner I never thought it would. That said it was a little difficult for me to get into the book, probably because I haven't read the rest of the series.
Kendrick was definitely an angsty read. Both Kendrick and Jay had a difficult past, but I felt neither really wanted to move forward. They were quite glad to stick in their own personal hell, which was a little immature. That said I loved the chemistry between the two characters. At first it was only physical, it was quite clear soon enough that they were in love with each other. I loved how Jay stayed with Kendrick through all his highs and lows. Kendrick too on his part, tried to do the best he could for Jay. But I absolutely loved how the book ended and the one decision that Kendrick made that made me love him so much.
I loved the second characters. I would definitely go back and read their books. Kendrick was an overall well-written and emotional book.
Oh my...Kendrick. I love the whole Torey Hope series but yep Kendrick is my favorite. the ups and downs, the oh's and ah's wow. Kendrick and Jay's story is a wonderful story about falling in love when you think it not in the cards, overcoming some problems and being there for each other.
⭐ ⭐ ARC Provided by Author in Exchange for an Honest Review ⭐ ⭐
Judging a Book by it's Cover: Not a fan of the cover composition. The pose and shadow play leave the model looking distorted. His shoulder looks dislocated. Thankfully, the synopsis is intriguing enough to give it a try. Looking Deeper: Third person POV narrative. First, I'd like to say that I've not read any previous Torey Hope or A.D. Ellis book and my review will be based solely on the content of KENDRICK as a stand-alone. As a newbie to the series, I found it difficult to get into the story. The lead characters start off extremely aloof and vague. I did not feel any chemistry between them at the beginning. Meeting all of the secondaries, even after reading the author's note and family tree, I felt like a stranger at a family reunion. It's quite evident that there is a ton of back-stories and even more history that I am missing by reading this book first. It is my opinion that I should not have read this book until I'd read the others to gain the most optimal reading experience. I was not fond of our Hero and Heroine's back stories, as they tend to live in the past and let the things that happened back then effect their daily lives still today. I know that not everyone can adapt and overcome these obstacles, but the forty percent or so of the book was not very likeable to me. Luckily, when I rate a book, it's based more on the writer's quality than my actual opinion. So, I'll conclude this review a little differently to explain why the book rates much higher than my personal opinion. We know that an author cannot please all readers every time. That said: While I did not care for the lead characters much, I loved the cast of secondary characters and wish I'd had time to read them first. The chemistry between the leads felt more physical than emotional from much of the book and it was hard to buy into a romantic element - however, I enjoyed the dialogue and interaction between them and the lesser cast quite a bit. The plot was filled with angst and drama, with a undercurrent of guilt and anger seeping throughout, but I've discovered that A.D. Ellis's writing flow is smooth and easy to read. Little to no errors were noted, which is a wonderful surprise on ARC copies. There were plenty of conflicts, all were resolved by believable methods. The predictability was moderate for me. Kendrick and Jay get their solid ending, but there's enough of an opening to allow for the next book(s) to slip in a peek. The very last scene, at the park, was the absolute best part of the book - to me. It's the first time I felt emotion towards any of the characters. So, while I wish I'd read the other books first to have a better grasp on the family background and I'd prefer stronger overall characters, the book was well-written and I know others will enjoy it much more than I did. I thank Ms. Ellis for the opportunity to read and review it and to be allowed to provide an honest review in exchange.
I have found in both The Torey Hope and Torey Hope: The Later Years series, that A.D. Ellis gives us stories of survival, hope, family, and love. In Kendrick: Torey Hope, The Later Years, she piles it all on in a story that grabs you and clenches your heart until the very end.
We pick up with Kendrick having run away from life as his past has finally caught up to him. He is hiding away and having fun living it up as only Kendrick can. Going from one girl to the next without thought or care. In the previous books we came to love Kendrick and his smart mouth and jokester ways, but we also came to see he has been deeply troubled. And he has reached a point where he is no longer able to run away from what has plagued him for years.
I found Kendrick heartbreaking in this book. The depth of his pain was transparent in every word you read and just broke my heart. We see him fall to depths that challenged him and reach points where I thought he may just not make it.
Then Kendrick meets Jay Keller in the most unexpected way. It was supposed to be a fun, no strings attached hookup and no more. But the more time Kendrick spends with Jay, the more he is drawn to her and wants her for himself.
As we get to know Jay, we come to see she may be more broken than Kendrick. She is afraid to open up, live life and find love. Love is fairy tales that happen to others, not people like her. She is unlovable and unwanted. Then life throws her a life-changing curveball.
Jay, though broken and lost, was a very strong heroine. She knew what she wanted and always pushed for what she wanted. I loved this about her. Even as she begins to open up to Kendrick and his family, she guarded her heart fiercely.
I loved seeing the interaction between these two. Jay trying to keep Kendrick at arm’s length and Kendrick fighting to keep her in his life without scaring away. It was so much fun watching these two face off and come together time and time again.
Once we learn what has plagued him for years, we realize how much pain and loss Kendrick was dealt with. But in true fashion of this series, The Morgan’s, Decker’s, Jordan’s and Martin’s pull together and stand by Kendrick. We would expect nothing less from this bunch.
As the story progresses and we see Kendrick and Jay trying to move forward, another curveball is thrown at them that may just tear them apart. Will they survive? Will everything be lost over choices made? It’s so worth reading this story to find out.
It was great to see a story that deals with such issues in true life fashion and how a family who loves each other so strongly stands together no matter what. This is what A.D. Ellis gives us with this series. Though each series, The Torey Hope and Torey Hope: The Later Years could be read on their own, it is so worth reading them in order to experience how this family came to be.
Kendrick: Torey Hope, The Later Years was a great end to this series. The struggles were heartbreaking, but seeing how family and loved ones can come together and stand by you, lifted your spirit and heart.
Definitely worth the read and I would highly recommend both series.
I was given this book in turn for an honest review
Kendrick has been hiding his demons for years; as time has passed, the pain has only got worse. Ready to face his demons and make a future for himself; Kendrick has to fight and the fight ahead won’t be easy. Has he the strength to succeed? Will the one person he can’t live without stand by him?
A.D. Ellis has pulled out all the stops with Kendrick’s story. I was really looking forward to reading the last book in the Torey Hope: The Later Years series, Kendrick was always the fun loving one, the one with a heart of gold and always there for his family and friends when they needed love and support, now he needed them and he needed them in ways none of them had imagined he ever would. I never expected his story to be as gut wrenching and emotionally charged as it was. My heart was breaking for him with every page turn, I wanted to crawl into my kindle, hug him and help him to see what was in front of him, to help him heal and to help him live the life he deserved.
Kendrick was a strong, open minded, independent and loyal young man. He made mistakes and he faced the devastation and consequences they brought with them. At a young age, he suffered loss and pain that we as adults struggle to face and heal from. He struggled to keep the past a secret, to be true to his word and keep the secret locked inside his mind. Only this secret hurt him too and he deserved to find solace and peace, to heal from the devastation. Before even reading Kendrick’s story, I already loved his character. What I never expected was to find a whole new love and appreciation for the strong and inspiring young man.
Jay was an interesting and intriguing character. At first I was unsure of her and didn’t fully trust her, however I was pleasantly surprised and found myself feeling empathy for a young woman who had had a very unsettled upbringing, yet she had determination to enjoy life and make something of herself one day. It was clear how much she loved Kendrick and how much they had changed each other.
A.D Ellis wrote about some very delicate and emotionally charged issues in this book with consideration and love; it was clear she had done her research.
Kendrick’s story I feel will give hope and inspiration to not only those suffering the same problems as he and Jay but to those who know people who are suffering the same devastations.
If you have read the previous books in the Torey Hope: The Later Years series you will without a doubt want to read Kendrick’s story. If you love young adult romances with suspense and storylines true to life, you will absolutely love this series by A.D. Ellis.
WOW this book started with a BANG !! I knew it was going to be a great book yet not an easy story to read. Kendrick has ALWAYS been the jokester , the fun loving , rowdy and crazy cousin of the group. Side jokes , sexual innuendos and the fear and excitement of never knowing what he may be thinking or about to say. OMG when Sawyer came out , Kendrick's curiosity made that so amazing , on top of all his winning qualities he also became bi-curious !! A lot of the humor that stays with me in these series come from either Nicky or Kendrick !! I adore them. BUT towards the end of Zach's book we find Kendrick not himself , everyone is worried and he is needing time and space. What the heck is Kendrick holding in and how long will he make us wait to finally get his story...
When this story starts we find Kendrick doing what he does best - drinking and planning his conquest for the night. Much to his surprise this newest conquest comes as a package deal !! Not only do we get to meet the wild and free Jay but Kendrick also gets to fulfill some of his curiosity - it is pretty heated and fun to read about this !! Something about Jay had Kendrick hooked and despite her rules they find themselves getting closer and closer despite neither looking for love. Kendrick is forced to face his family , his past and his fears for the future all at once. As we know this family is amazing so regardless I had hope everything would be fine. Of course Jay fit right in and their future plans had both Jay and Kendrick reaching for goals they ever thought they would have. Sadly in Torey Hope we always have some heartache and devastation before we get that amazing HEA. Will Kendrick overcome his problems or will he leave Jay alone as so many others have done ??
Jay is very closed off and besides Tony and her cafe job she has yet to make many roots in this small town. BUT something about Kendrick makes it easy to feel and open up. One event drives Jay to open up her dark past and share with Kendrick. Once we know her story it makes the next set of events heartbreaking to see her go through. Jay is strong no doubt , but is she strong enough to actually help someone choose right ??
This story does get REAL - but it has an amazing ending and of course during the good we get some real amazing hotness and fun !!
I have to say that I fell in love with the Torey Hope “gang”, starting with the very first book. Each and every one of these men that Ms. Ellis has gifted us with their stories, has touched my heart in their own way. Each of the characters have faced many difficult and painful times in their lives that have made them stronger and even more grateful for the wonderful love that they share with their families. In the Later Years part of the series, we have had the pleasure of hearing the struggles of six cousins, each sharing their story, which many of us can relate to, having either shared a similar trouble, or that we have a special person in our lives that have experienced something close to it, and Kendrick is certainly no different in that sense. What are the chances of finding the person you may want to spend the rest of your life with, not only in a bar, but with someone else and looking for a little “extra” fun for the night? And of course, as the saying goes, you may stumble upon love when you least expect it, and maybe even when you don’t want it. Jay isn’t looking for a serious relationship. She’s quite happy having a “friend with sexy benefits” and even the odd addition, but only as a temporary thing. She’s never known what love of a family feels like, and thinks she can live quite well without that pretence….that is, until she meets Kendrick. Then all hell breaks loose and the bottom of that plan falls to pieces. Kendrick has accepted Jay’s rules of “temporary” weekend fling…for now. He knows she is his future, but has to buy time to be able to convince her. This book is a must read, as we follow Kendrick and Jay as they travel the very rough road to their happy ever after. There is so much pain and suffering, as well as the overabundance of love that shines through it all, in this tale, that you will want to make sure you have lots of tissues handy, especially nearer the end. Even though I think this is the end of this series, I am saddened, as I don’t feel like I am ready to give up the folks in this “messed up, perfect and extremely full of loving” family. A series worth reading that will make you fall in love over and over again. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Which I was happy to accept because I have enjoyed my previous visits to Torey hope.
A. D. Ellis did an amazing job with the final book in her series! The main male character Kendrick is a dirty talker, funny, and tries to hide a deep pain in his heart. When he meets Jaymison he goes after what he wants and doesn't back down on letting her know he wants her for his future. He has vulnerabilities and struggles that could ruin his desired future with Jay.
Jay protects her heart and hides her past from those around her. Feelings change and she has to decide if the words, and current actions can be trusted enough to allow her heart and feelings to be shared with others. She is stronger than she realizes and fights for what she truly desires with the help of secondary characters Jay may have the future she never had allowed herself to dream of.
The secondary characters including Kendrick's entire family are complex and entertaining for the reader. It is not all happy go lucky and not all dark and dismal. Kendrick: Torey Hope, The Later Years provides a wide range of emotional issues for the characters and thereby the reader. Ellis brings psychological issues to the front along with options for dealing with those issues and the possible results based on those decisions. This not only provides for a great read, but an insight for the reader while being entertained.
I am giving Kendrick: Torey Hope, The Later years a 4.7 star rating. I would be happy to recommend this book to friends and read it again and again. I know this is the last book in this series yet I am hoping A. D. Ellis can bring it for her next creation as well as if not better than her Torey Hope, The Later Years!
Check out this review and others at www.Twinsietalk.com www.Facebook.com/Twinsietalk www.Twitter.com/Twinsietalk www.Tsu.co/Twinsietalk Newsletter : http://eepurl.com/brwkPv Kendrick by AD Ellis I received this book from the author for an honest review. OMG was I so excited to read Kendrick. He always cracked me up with his insane and over the top wild behavior with the ones he loved. The last couple books we have seen him struggle and start to spiral downward but had no clue WHY!! Kendrick, at his lowest of lows, finds the light of his life. He certainly didn’t know a night with Jay and her boyfriend Tony would change his world but it does. He sees something about her and needs to know more. Jay is not about the get close. When Tony has to leave she tells Kendrick they can keep having “fun” but no strings. Kendrick finally comes clean about what has been nagging at him for the past 10 years to his amazing family. When he finally comes clean he also gets a chance at a new life with Jay because she spills an epic secret to him about how her life is going to be changing. Kendrick and Jay jump in head first into a relationship. They both fall head over heels in love but then Kendrick has an accident and Jay is a mess. My favorite scene in the whole book is when Kendrick is drugged up at the hospital and she spills her entire deep dark past to him. When she admits her true feelings to him….my heart beat a bit faster. Kendrick makes some epic mistakes but Jay and his family are there to make him get his head outta his butt plus make things right before he lose Jay and any possible future he may have with her.

I have been impatiently waiting for Kendrick's story and I was soooo not prepared for it! Author A.D. Ellis outdid herself with this one - this book left me speechless, breathless and full of emotions. There was no way that the reader could ever predict what was going to happen next in this looping, curving, twisting, turning plot that just when you think you had it figured out - WHAM - she hit the reader with something else.
Kendrick has demons - from his past and from his present. The reader wants Kendrick to be the perfect wisecracking, joking, cousin that they have come to love and they are in no way prepared for meeting the "real" Kendrick. Author A.D. Ellis makes the reader laugh, cry, yell, scream, ugly cry, stare at their kindle in disbelief and then finally just when you think you can't take anymore she brings out the HEA....thank goodness for that! Jay, Bella and Kendrick quickly jump to the top of the list of favorite characters from this amazing small town series. The reader won't be able to just walk away from this one - it is sure to leave you with a massive book hangover that will take several books to overcome.
If you haven't fallen in love with the Torey Hope books, now is the time! You can start with this one, but to get the full effect I would go back to book 1 and start there - they are too good to miss and to start out at the end. Enjoy this visit to Torey Hope and I can guarantee you will be back for more - one story is never enough!!
Another great book in the Torey Hope series and Kendrick's much awaited story. And definitely worth it!! Kendrick has his demons and they're finally getting to him in a way that he's going over the top with his behavior. His family has given him a time limit before they're coming after him. During this time he meets Jay and she intrigues him though she tells him this is fun only and she's not into a relationship. When Kendrick finally comes home he's ready to talk and gathers the family to tell them what's going on, what happened in the past. While dealing with the past he continues to spend time with Jay and she finally agrees to try a relationship with him. But when he's in a car accident can their relationship survive?
WOW! Again the author takes you a ride that takes you all over the place emotion wise. I laughed, Kendrick just does that to you, cried, cheered and yelled. I love how even though it was his story the rest of the family was there and weren't just on the sidelines but a big part of the story. A must read but be prepared to feel because you can't read it and not. I received this in exchange for a honest review.
Once again, A.D. Ellis has written a fabulous story. As usual, she has tackled a sensitive issue and treated it with dignity and grace. All 7 of the Torey Hope books bring an important issue "out of the dark" and sheds light on it. She has shown that each of these issues is nothing to be ashamed of and they don't discriminate-- they can happen to absolutely anybody.
Kendrick and Jay make an unusual couple. At first glance, they appear to have nothing in common. As is often the case with love, first impressions can be misleading. These two bring out the best in each other and make each other whole. There is no doubt their love is true and will stand the tests of time.
I am saddened to say goodbye to Torey Hope. I loved all 7 of the stories. I would love to have all the members of this huge, extended family as members of my family. Every person in these stories is someone worth having in your life. I most definitely recommend reading not just Kendrick but all of the books in the Torey Hope Collection. It is truly a fantabulous set of stories.
Out of all of these I do believe this is one that has a lot of depth and pulls on your heart strings alot. Kendrick might be the joking guy but deep down he is the hurting guy. He then encounters Jay who them together will take one roller coaster ride. He finally allows his cousins and family in on some of the cause of the pain and how messed up he is. With counseling he goes step by step. This is one beautifully written that you soon forget that this is a character and it seems larger than life because it is so expertly written. The girl Jay also has her own story and little by little she comes forth and the two of them together make for a emotional read. Love can go a long way with healing too as will be shown in this one once again as in some of the other ones before these two. I think too living in a area that has alot of diversity and people that is another reason that this one fit for me. Sad to say too this hits on subject that has a high number it happens to concerning the age of the suicide victims such as was Kendrick's girl. One that won't be put down once picked up.

With Kendrick, Torey Hope: The Later Years, A.D. Ellis has ended the series. And what an ending. Kendrick Jordan is a fun and family loving young man beginning his adult life while trying to deal with his past. While close to his family, he doesn't share with them, trying to handle the past himself. He meets a pixie-like girl, Jay, who has a mysterious past she won't share with him. Hell, she won't even share her real name with him. Soon real life happens to the two of them and their lives become intertwined. Just when things seem to be getting better between the two of them, several events happen. With lots of help from Kendrick's large, caring family, and lots of growth an angst and love, these two end up beginning a new life. I loved the way the author showed their flaws as well as their strengths. I was involve with them from the very beginning. A.D. Ellis has done it again and you won't be disappointed.
Kendrick Jordan seems to have it all: a loving, supportive family, wonderful friends and a promising career at the family Center. Always fun loving, sarcastic and with a smart ass sense of humor you'd think he's on top of the world. However, he has a secret that he's keeping that causes him to run. He meets Jay Keller and almost instantly feels he's found what's been missing his whole life. Jay is independent and runs from anything that resembles commitment but fate has other plans for her. She finally accepts that perhaps Kendrick will be different from everyone else when tragedy strikes and her past begins to haunt her again. Jay was such a great lead female. I felt so connected to her, and the love she has for Kendrick is beautiful and all encompassing. Kendrick's back story intrigued me and I loved how the author tackled his issues. *Read and reviewed on behalf of Kylie's Fiction Addiction
Yet another of my favorite series is coming to an end, which makes me sad. Kendrick is a great story, tho! Very emotionally gripping, and there is a lot going on with him, and with his ladylove, Jay.
Kendrick's story started out with some things I wasn't expecting & didn't really like. I'm just not into some things & while I understood where they were coming from, from a story/character perspective, still not a fan.
All in all, tho, I loved his story. I loved the way his feelings for Jay (and hers for him) progressed & how he handles certain things - and I did NOT love how he handles some others, but again, understood. It was nice to see the gang again, and to feel like EVERYONE came together to give him the help & support he needed throughout his journey. : )
I absolutly loved this book. I think that it was my favorite one of the Torey Hope: The Later Years books, and that is saying something as they are all great. In this story, you are focusing on Kendrick. Kendrick has always been my favorite. He always had an air of mystery about him that made me want more and to learn more about what was going on in his mind. With this book, I got that. I was heartbroken, excited, and happy. I was laughing and in tears. To me this is how I know the quality of the story that I was reading. I would recommend this book (and series) to everyone that reads. Please read this book if you have read the others. Take a chance on this series if you have not yet, and you will be very happy.
This book picks Kendricks story up where book one left off. We get the rest of the picture of the drugs, other women, his girlfriend suicide and his baby's death. We see the struggles he over came and what he still needs to over come. After the car accident and drug use. Seeing his family come together to help him, and his battle to get better.
This story is written well. I didn't see any errors in the writting, story was solid and you have closure Kendrick gets his happy ever after. The reason I gave this book four stars was due to it not being my normal ready and it took reading the whole book and not getting hooked.
This review is written for Kylie's Fiction Addiction.
I just absolutely loved this book it is my favourite of all the torey hope series if you haven't read them, i highly recommend them this is the story of kendrick who is a typical jack the lad who uses women like water and uses his wit and dirty one liners as a shield to hide from a sad past jay rocks into his life and turns his life upside down they have to fight threw depression and addiction to get to a happy ended this is truly a 5 * read
Kendrick and Jay meet during troubled times for both of them. Neither of them are looking for love or anything but both are running away from life in general. Love the way they meet and hookup. Very emotional book with a lot of rollercoaster feelings in this book. Tissues are needed at points but another awesome book from A.D. Torey Hope is a wonderful town and the families in this book are all awesome. The cousins help Kendrick a lot in this book. Love it.
Yet, another great book by A.D. Ellis. I love reading the books about the kids. I can't believe all the twist and turns that were thrown at us from this book. It made Kendrick seem real and explained so much about him from the other books. I loved that his lover Jay was also a little different then the smiling and sweet all around girl. I can't wait to see what else this group of friends/family have in store for us.
What an emotional Rollercoaster. This was a fantastic book from the beginning. So well written too. I found myself laughing and to the point of tears at different aspects of the book. I think this was a wonderful last book in the series.
After reading A.D. Ellis' ZACH from the Torey Hope series, I jumped at the chance to read KENDRICK when the book was released. A.D. Ellis writes with emotion in her book, set in the fictional town of Torey Hope. The themes of love, family and acceptance are strong as in the previous books with added themes of recovery from loss and addiction. The subjects are dealt with a straight forward manner, including all graphic details. The characters are strong, particularly Jay, who manages to grow as the story progresses. While I didn't see as much growth in Kendrick's character, that didn't seem to be the author's intent. His part of the story was his journey towards the realization that he had to grow up and face the past to have a future. A.D. Ellis accomplishes that well. I do recommend KENDRICK and all the Torey Hope stories if you haven't read. They're a terrific escape and well worth a look.
Of all the books in this series this one is my favorite. For me, this book was so much more relatable. The struggles each of these characters face are heartbreaking and to see how they deal with them makes it seem so real. I love the characters. I give this book a give star review and I am already looking forward to reading it again.
The Torey Hope Series is one of my favorites. There are eight in all. Every one of them is special in its own way. Kendrick is the last. I almost couldn't finish it because it broke my heart. I did though, and it was worth it. Thanks A.D
