Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts #1

When a Laird Loves a Lady

Rate this book
A need to belong drives her. A longing to forget compels him. Fate may send them into each other’s arms, but only love can mend their hearts.

An Outlander

Raised by a tyrannical father, Marion de Lacy yearns for the comfort of belonging to a loving family. So when her father announces her betrothal to an evil knight in exchange for his help to overthrow the king, she concocts a desperate scheme to avoid the marriage: feigning her own death and then fleeing England. But when her plan goes terribly awry and she’s captured by the knight, not even her careful preparations could ready her for the Scottish barbarian who rescues her and then informs her that he’s to marry her by edict of her king. Certain her father will defy the king’s orders and wed her to the knight if she refuses the Highlander’s hand, Marion agrees to marry the strangely compelling but obstinate laird of the MacLeod clan.

A Highlander

After the death of his beloved wife, Iain MacLeod has no desire to marry ever again. Yet when he finds himself obliged to do so to secure the freedom of his childhood friend and king, he reluctantly travels across England to collect his unwanted bride, expecting to find a cold Englishwoman. Instead, he discovers a fiery, bold beauty who is fiercely loyal, protective of those she loves, and defies him at every turn, challenging his certainty that his heart is dead.

Ensnared

Following a hasty marriage and perilous journey to Scotland, Marion harbors no illusions that her new husband loves her. Still, her heart cannot resist the noble, brave warrior, and she cannot suppress the hope that she has finally found where she belongs. However, the harder she tries to fit in with the clan and gain Iain’s love, the farther away her dreams drift. Iain is more than willing to give his respect to his courageous wife—her kisses and caresses even ignite his blood and demand his passion—but he refuses to give up his heart. That is, until enemies near and far threaten to take Marion from him. Now the demons that haunt him can only be conquered by surrendering body and soul to Marion, if only it’s not too late…

An enjoyable hr read that held my interest for almost most of the pages.
I would have preferred less references to Iain’s dead wife and the heroine’s hardships...

Quick review here. Loved the characters in this romance. Strong, multi dementional characters with wonderful story line. A romance that was sweet, spicy and rich in feeling.

Marion was a determined yet gentle and kind heroine who wanted to be loved and have a family. Iain was a strong (with a hidden sweet side) Scott who lost the wife he loved and swore he'd never love again. The two are forced/made to marry. The romance is a lovely thing to behold in that it builds and grows from attraction, respect, friendship and then a deep abiding love. The relationship has spice, wonderful dialogue and deep emotions that leaves you with a great appreciation of there HEA.

Looking forward to Bridgette (I loved her and her sassy/spunky self)and Lachlens romance.

Well written and steady pacing!!

marion and Iain (and his dead wife, Catriona... roll my eyes)
I will admit to skimming the first half a fair bit. (I am a chicken shit sometimes... but not as much as Iain is a chicken shit for the first half of the book!)
Not nearly the worst stubborn widower story I've read, and in the middle third he moves on. He also just couldn't resist Marion (and not just sexually (about 1/3 in)) in the beginning either. OTT possessive and protective all the while he tells himself he will never love her. Those actions speaking louder than words (well his words were kinda hurtful though). Iain was a twit to hold on to Catriona for so long just because of an oath he gave at the worst of his grieving, and a fear of loving and losing again, blah blah blah. You know the drill.
But he does grovel well and I was convinced that he loved Marion, well before the end of the story.
I know I will revisit the last 3rd of the story more in the future.
To be honest, I was more annoyed by the OTT villain in the story. But then I don't enjoy those sneaky kinds of villains...

Anyway, I plan to read more by this author!

I am sorry to say I did not like When A Laird Loves A Lady!! The storyline was not appealing to me at all.

Lady Mairon de Lacy has been order by her father Baron deLacy to marry Sir William Froste. A man she can't abide. After pleading with her father and he ruthlessly beating her Marion fakes her death.

Iain MacLeod has tried in vain to gain the release of the Scottish King David from his imprisonment in England. King Edward of England has demanded that Iain marry Baron de Lacy's daughter Marion. Kind Edward believes that de Lacy and Froste are planning to take over the throne. So he must stop the marriage that will forge and alliance between de Lacy and Froste.

Poor Marion has been unloved and beaten by her father all her life and now she must marry Iain Laird of Clan MacLeod. Iain vows to be kind to her but he will never love her. Iain loves his dead wife Caitriona and has vowed never to forget her. I don't like 3rd party marriages and Catriona is a constant character between Iain an Marion. He never lets Marion forget he loves his dead wife. This pre occupation with a dead women and the constant reminder of her went on way to far in the story, to the end. Marion suffers untold amounts of physical abuse through the story first at the hands of her father, then at the hands of Froste, and then at the hands of his men. Oh and lets not forget the abuse she suffers once she and Iain get to his castle. She is poisoned and treated badly by Catriona's sisters.

Come on how much Abuse was the heroine suppose to endure? This was not a happy story. I hated Iain for most of the story and Marion was just a weak women who accepted her abuse by everyone around her. I Cannot Recommend When A Laird Loves A Lady!! Sorry!!

Freaking amazing!!
From starting till the end the book has so so so many different aspects.

▪️We're taken to different places for better understanding of the plot. We were introduced to so many characters and each one of them were unique and different in their own way!!

▪️MCs are too good. A perfect match for each other, their complimenting nature was good to read.

▪️ Writing style of this authoress is fab! This is my first book by Julie Johnstone but she has already trapped me in the web of all of her characters. Now I have to read everyone's story!!

A beautiful story presented in an equally beautiful way.

After reading some 'not so good' CR in a row, I decided it was high time I picked up a HR. And I cannot say how glad I am that I did.

Originally, I had planned for something by Julie Garwood but this was one high on the Amazon recommendation, so I decided to give this a try and I'm happy to say that I enjoyed the hell out of this one.

Though very similar to The Bride by JG, this book was unique in its own way. I'm planning on binge reading the series soon! :-)

When I heard that author, Julie Johnstone was writing a medieval tale with a brooding Scottish rogue, I was elated. I truly enjoy everything Ms. Johnstone has written and consider her a go-to author.

When a Laird Loves A Lady is a fabulous first in the Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts series. Two very different people not so different in their wants and desires. Marion de Lacey is being used by her father for a means to his misguided ends and Marion wants no part of it. Her traitorous father has betrothed her to an odious knight who would align himself with Marion's father to overthrow their king. This knight is the last man on earth who she wishes to marry. Along with some of her loyal friends, she comes up with a plan to seek refuge in Scotland but plans go awry and Marion finds herself in danger.

Highlander Iain MacLeod has been through much in his life and after losing his beloved wife he never wanted to go down the marriage route again, but duty calls and when Iain attempts to retrieve the bride his king decrees he marry, Iain discovers there are many dark dealings going on with de Lacey and his underlings. On his journey home, he comes upon Marion de Lacey and so their tale of adventure begins. A quick wedding ceremony ensues in hopes to thwart any of her father's plans, but it will take more than that for Iain and Marion to come to terms with their unstable future ahead.

I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this book! When a Laird Loves a Lady is a sweeping story with a beautiful backdrop. In this unsteady time these two amazing people will do what they must to assure good over evil prevails. Both Iain and Marion are brilliant characters with determination and for as much as Iain would like to keep Marion at arms length, that task is impossible with a lady with as much pluck and courage. Their desire for one another is evident and adds so much to this wonderful story. It is a page-turner and I applaud Julie Johnstone for her first foray into a new era... I want the next one NOW!

This is the first book I've read by this author and it won't be the last. I give 5 stars when the book is well written, very minor grammar or editing errors, and when the story holds my attention and I want to read it all in one sitting.

Marion de Lacy, 1/2 English, 1/2 Scot, is ordered by King Edward to marry Scottish Laird Iain MacLeod as her father plots to take Edward's throne. Iain agrees to marry her in the hope that Edward will release King David of Scotland. Iain is a widower and has sworn never to love again, but is very attracted to Marion. This is nowhere near all that is going on but I don't like or write plot spoilers.

Of course, there is a villain intent on marrying Marion for her lands and happy to kill Iain for them. Also, jealous clan women who hoped to marry the widowed laird themselves. There are several sub-plots going on. Iain has 3 brothers and I'm hoping they get their own stories as I really enjoyed this book.

Highlander sensuality, protectiveness, intensity. . .
There are some reading material that I will drop everything for. It just so happen that When a Laird Loves a Lady was one of them. Hot, hunky, highland lover tops the charts for reads that I have to have. And let us not for get the sexy brogue. I have this one on my must read again and again. I look forward to each new addition to this series. I will keep a look out.

Two people with different in the make up and similar in the needs and desires. I found that the road each traveled to make it to that point where their needs and desires were each other.

Love in the Highlands with a Reluctant Laird

Set in 1357 in Scotland, this is the story of Marion de Lacy, a woman who is half Scot but raised by her English father who paid her little attention. When he attempts to force a marriage upon her to an evil knight, she escapes with the help of her friend, Angus, who wants her to join the MacLeods of Skye. Before she can reach them, she’s captured by the knight.

Iain, laird of the MacLeods was married to a woman he loved. With her death, he wants never to marry again. Yet he’s agreed to marry Marion by order of the English king, Edward, to save the Scottish king, David.

In this well-written story, we meet some delightful characters and see how an arranged marriage can lead to love. Great dialog adds to the characters’ interchanges and there are some exciting scenes.

The hero, Iain, is an unusual man. He apologizes frequently and is unselfish and caring to the woman he was forced to marry, considering her in all he does. Marion is a saint, kind to her enemies and wanting only to win her husband’s love. Iain’s clan mostly accepts her but the sisters of his former wife are not pleased at their laird’s new marriage.

The path to love has many twists and turns, including treachery, betrayal and, for good measure, a seer. And enjoyable Scottish historical read.

I’m actually writing this review 4 1/2 years after I first read the book.
I’ve learned in my many readings of it that i never tire of it. It just improves every reading.

The characters are full of passionate chemistry and have wonderful personalities that endear them to you.

Marion and Iain are made for each other.
Lachlan, Cameron, Graham and Bridget make you long for future books that are planned and now written in this series.

Excellent book can’t recommend it enough.

When A Laird Loves A Lady is #1 in the exciting new "Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts" series. WOW! What a fast paced, set on the edge of your seat, passion filled, adventuous, dangerous and romantic story. With betrayal, treason, treachery and amidst it all hopefully, love. What more could a Medevial Romance fan wish? Can love find it's way into the heart of a unyielding Highlander, Lain MacLeod, who has lost so much, including his frail but beloved wife? Then, he's commanded to marry an English Lass, in order to start negotiations to free the Scottish King, David from the English. What he finds is no pampered, scared, English Lady, but a feisty, determined and independent Lady, who is in grave danger. English Lady, Marion de Lacy, raised by very tyrannical father, looking for love, acceptance, family and home find it among the MacLeod clan? If only they can survive the hardships they and the MacLeod clan face.
From the first page to the last, readers will be captivated, ensnared and held in awe of the well developed characters and the magnificent storyline. Ms. Johnstone can definitely woo her readers!
I can not recommend this story enough. A most delicious, emotional, heartwarming and an absolute must read. Fans of Scottish Highland Romance with danger and action will definitely want this one on their TBR list. A sensual but compassionate read. I loved the interaction between Lain and Marion, as well as the other characters. What an honor to watch their relationship and special bond grow. Readers will find a few surprises, and many twists and turns along the way. I was guessing who the traitor was right up to the very end. WOW! Awesome storytelling! A definite keeper! Please pick up "When a Laird Loves a Lady", you won't be able to put it down. Ms. Johnstone has brought the Highlands to life through the pages of her story. I absolutely loved this story! More, please and hopefully, soon, very soon. Very talented author, who knows how to bring her readers to tears. I questioned rather Lain and Marion would find their HEA or will evil prevail, right up to the very end. Can light replace darkness and fill hearts with an undeniably love? You MUST read to learn more. A powerful, emotional, and compelling story of Scottish hardships, turmoil, and how quickly they can be betrayed and how precious life is in the Highlands.
One of my Favorite Medieval Romance authors and I can't wait to read more of this series.

This was a gritty and intriguing story. Because of the lack of love in her home life, Marion wanted only to marry for love. Her father has other plans. Iain lost the love of his life and is determined to never love again. The fates do not again. To rescue his King, Iain must marry Marion as part of a strategic alliance. Marion and Iain fight their feelings through their adventures until there is no question. At points throughout the story, I felt so connected to some of the characters and I look forward to more stories. I recommend this book.

This actually turned out to be quite the delightful little historical romance. I downloaded it free from Kindle about a two month's back. I was in the mood for something new and decided to try this one. I'm glad I did because I really ended up liking the book.

Our hero, Iain, has vowed to never love anyone again or marry anyone again, but when he has to marry someone to help free his king David, from captivity, he agrees. He doesn't think anyone can touch his heart again, and swears no one will. However, Marion does find her way into his heart.

Although Marion has to compete with a ghost, it actually isn't constantly in your face while reading. I don't feel as if Marion was second best to Iain's first wife. Iain's gradually falling in love with Marion was very sweet and finally just hits him square in the face, or the heart, if you will. It was very well done.

I found this to be a sweet love story with a semi low steam level. If you're looking for a nice, safe, historical romance, this is for you.

Triggers:

Quotes and Faves:

She was his completely. He took her by the face and covered her mouth with his, sweeping his tongue around her sweet, welcoming caverns. He was greedy for wanting her love when he knew he had none to give in return, but he wanted it anyway. He’d give her other things.
Truly, I felt here that he already loved her. He wanted her love because deep down he was already falling for her.

He’d loved Catriona, but she’d not stirred a storm in him as Marion did.

“Marion!” Iain roared, reason fleeing him as he charged into the icy black water. Before he could dive under, hands grabbed onto him and tugged him back.
And OMG, this scene reminded me so much of a scene from my current obsession Gran Hotel. So, so good!!!

The word hit him like a fist forged of steel. She could not die. She had become like his air. Like water. Like a bright ray of sun that warmed his soul. He loved her. He did.

“I love ye, Marion. I hope ye still want my love because I’m overflowing with it for ye, and if ye dunnae want it, I’ll drown.”

Fascinating heartwarming and emotional story that I simply could not put this book down! This was a first novel I ever read by the talented Julie Johnstone, but it certainly won't be the last as I whole heartedly absolutely loved this book! The author did such impressive and remarkable research on the Clan MacLeod history and as they did reside at Dunvegan Castle which is on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. Now if ever visiting Scotland, they do offer tours to visit this beautiful castle surrounded by water! I just love when authors weave true factual history and an exceptional fictional historical tale. Beautifully done!

England and Scotland 1357

Marion de Lacy, who was born of an English titled father, Baron de Lacy and her Scottish mother who died when she was just a child. It was an arranged marriage which is not unusual for titled royals or for this time period. Her father is as evil power hungry, brutal, abusive, tormenter, and dictator whom has never given Marion any praise, encouragement, love or attention! Well the right kind of attentions anyhow and no love at all, being ignored most of the time in her lonely existence of except by his severe punishments and personal humiliations! He has been both mentally and physically abusive to her and anyone else whoever questions his authority, in his way or he just plain feels like it for no given reason! Beside the beatings, his other specialty is humilation, he is an extremely evil man! He just see's her as a means to use her for his personal greed advantage in status and now has an insane, deceitful and unscrupulous plot to overthrow and take over the English Crown!

All Marion's wants is acceptance, respect, love and a sense of belonging, she feels that will only happen through a love match! The only one who person to ever has treated her like a true daughter is the beloved servant. The elder, Scottish stable-master Angus, who came over with her mother from Scotland when she married and then stayed on to protect Marion. He is the only real father she has ever known and sole person to give her praise has taught her many skills her father would not allow in protecting herself with daggers throwing, horseback and archery. Probably the only reason she turned out to be a good hearted sensitive and caring lass like her Mother had been.Marion has never had any friends her own age living in isolation as everyone is so fearful of her cruel wicked father nor we he allow her any bit of happiness in her twenty years of life.

Now due to for her fathers thirst for greed, power and control he wants to marry her with this monster, the most shameless, wicked and cruelest Knight in England, William Froste! He is known for his severe cruel, violent and dishonorable behavior on the battlefield and enjoys to torture those weaker then himself and wants the title and the land and title he can get through thie match. Plus the fact Marion is extremely beautiful too. Of course this is as they continue with this devious evil plan to overthrow the English government! So desperate times call in for desperate measures! Marion comes up with crazy idea and she decides to fake her own death and return her mother's homeland in Scotland! Angus helps her succeed in this plan until she is caught!

King Edward of England suspects duplicity from Baron de Lacy and Froste and suspects he might try to forge an aliiance with Froste and the last thing he wants is match with de Lacy's daughter . So he issues a summons to Chieftain and Laird Iain MacLeod to marry Marion, a man still grieving his dead wife Catriona who died two years ago. Iain is still heartbroken and hasn't even looked at another women plus making a sacred promise he will never forget her his beloved wife. To say he isn't thrilled is an understatement, but he being the honorable warrior he honors this agreement. It is the only way King Edward will open talks to speak officially of releasing King David's from the English prison, where he is being held. The catch is he must marry and and consummate the marriage before the talks will open.

So Iain had no MacLeod choice but to marry Marion de Lacy! There is one wee problem, when he goes to fetch his bride her he finds out out he has another dead wife and he hasn't even married her yet! He suspects foul play and tracks her down. Iain will give his new wife everything protection, clothing, honor, everything but the thing she wants most love. So how will Marion be able to thaw this handsome Lairds cold heart? Danger is at every corner as they are also being chased by Froste and His men as he want those lands and titles and even Iain and Marion's marriage does not stops Froste to go after this couple with a vegence!

Froste just needs to kill Iain and capture and marry Marion and then kill a King easy as that or is it? Will Marion have another twenty years of misery with a man in love with a ghost? Plus even at when they read Dunvegan Castle the MacLeod lands life if not easy for an Outlander and already some clan member are not happy with an Iain's choice of a Sassenach wife! Will Marion ever feel she belongs anywhere? Plus Iain still being in love with his deceased wife will he ever have room for Marion? Will she be able the thaw this Lairds cold heart? Will Froste catch up and murder Iain and make Marion a widow? Will Iain use the Fannie Flag a third time and if so to save his clan or Marion? So many twists and turns in this action packed captivating highland tale ! You will have to read this riveting, emotional break neck speed adventure of these passionate two star crossed lovers whose characters seem so real you can't help but root for this couple and hope they get their happily every after!

The secondary characters in this book were also fascinating too and so much fun to read about that kept this book exciting with such a wonderful flow too! The beautiful neighboring clan, Laird MacLeans's younger sister - Bridgette, who ends up being a very close and protective friend to someone Iain cares about. Also both Iain's brothers Lachlan and Graham are in love with the same woman. I sure hope there is a future book for this trio as I am dying to see how it plays out! I loved old Angus of course and Iain's dearest friend Rory Mac was hilarious! Also my heart went out to earless Neal too, you will have to read to find out MU meaning. Iain has another brother Cameron too I hope to find more about in future books beside being interested in very fast boats. Of course this book has more then one villain in it too! This does not necessarily mean they are all men either which made this novel so interesting and fascinating to read and keeps you on your toes guessing who the villain might be! What will happen next making readers turn the pages that much faster! Lots of shocking surprised and oh no, he or she didn't! Which made "When a Laird Loves a Lady" by Julie Johnstone such an exhilarating read! I can't recommend it enough! Bravo Ms. Johnstone this book had me totally melted my heart, left me breathless and wanting more! Spectacular!

Going into this I knew a hero who still mourns the loss of his deceased wife is not my cup of tea. In the heroine’s own words, she feels she is being forced to marry a man in love with a ghost. With that said, it seems if anyone has a chance at being a ghost buster, it’s the leading lady, Lady Marion. Ian is instantly attracted to her physical beauty, feistiness, dagger yielding ways, compassion, and courage in the face of danger. Yeah, she has his heart right from the beginning, folks, he just doesn’t want to admit to anyone, especially himself. It certainly helps it has been over a year since Catriona’s passing and Marion is her complete polar opposite in every way.

Having wed Catriona, a childhood friend, to help her avoid an unwanted arranged marriage, Ian did eventually fall in love with his sweet but very fragile/frail wife, who died from a long term illness. Having vowed to never open his Scottish heart to such pain again, he is racked with guilt over his immediate heart palpitations and unwanted longing for an English beauty, who from the second he meets her, keeps him on his toes. Unfortunately, Marion’s heart is the one that repeatedly takes a beating, after they marry under a direct order by the king. It’s a good thing she’s resilient and knows how to speak up/defend herself.

With writing that flows, authentic Scottish brogue, great supporting sub-characters, and an engaging storyline with twists and turns, I was able to endure the arrows to Marion’s heart each and every time Ian put his foot in his mouth...but barely. Honestly, someone needs to pull that handsome knucklehead aside and tell him wanting to be open and honest is one thing, but knowing when to keep your trap shut is important, too.

At 30% into it, when they share their first kiss, he’s a goner. But he still continued to remind everyone that no one will ever take Catriona’s place. But not to worry, he eventually comes to his senses. And that, my romance book-loving friends, is precisely why I took a chance on this romantic tale. You see, I was in the mood for a groveling hero and this author did not disappoint. When Marion is almost taken away from him forever, he’s brought to his knees and regrets ever fighting his love for her.

Title: When a Laird Loves a Lady, Series: Highlander Vows, Entangled Hearts (Book 1), Author: Julie Johnstone, Pages: 376, stand-alone, HEA, hero still mourns/loves his deceased wife, reluctant to love hero, hero has been celibate since before wife died, virgin/feisty/sassy/can depend herself with a dagger/caring/a good healer heroine, some VERY steamy scenes that do not highjack the storyline, heroine is abducted/injured, violent/jealous wanna be husband almost rapes her, dead wife sister drama, miscarriage scenario, some violence.

Romance Safety Gang: Hero still always loves/cherishes his deceased wife, but her memory is lessened due to Marion taking over his heart. I despise OW drama, would have preferred an unhappy previous marriage. This was more tolerable only because from their first glance Ian fell for Marion, just was reluctant to love again.

Book 1 - When a Laird Loves a Lady (Ian & Marion), Pages: 376, 3/22/16
Book 2 - Wicked Highland Wishes (Lochlan & Bridgette), Pages: 310, 10/10/16

Oh, the feels from this book. Marion de Lacey is a lovely blend of sweet and feisty, but without acting irrationally. She just wants to be loved for who she is. Why is that so much to ask? I can't fathom living in a time period where women were treated as property, so these stories always fascinate me. When an author takes a woman from these time periods and makes her strong ... ah, a match made in heaven. I love it.

I almost didn't read this book because of a few of the reviews that expressed frustration over the level of brutality Marion endured and the stubborn nature of the hero in coming around to acknowledging his feelings. I'm glad I gave it a try, because watching the relationship between Marion and Iain grow was lovely. There are a few rough scenes, but they aren't graphic and they're quick.

As an author, I tip my hat to Julie Johnstone because the main arc of this book hits on a major taboo in romance writing. I've read countless times from publishers / editors that you can't make the inner conflict of the character his fear of loving again. We're told that arc cannot sustain an entire book. Well, I call bullshit, because I LOVED this story despite the fact that there is nothing in this story keeping the hero and heroine apart (emotionally) other than the hero's pain of having loved and lost his first wife.

What publishers and editors really mean when they tell us "don't do that" is don't do XXXX (you fill in the blank) unless you hit it out of the park like the author does in this story. Well done.

I adore Ms. Johnstone's writing and when I heard she was going to write her first Medieval story, I did a happy dance and was not disappointed.

As with her other books, the scenes are descriptive. The characters are ones you can relate to even when you want to wring their necks. The story has the right blend of emotion and humor. There's treachery and treason at work and I was immediately drawn into this world and didn't want to stop reading until the end. The heroine, Marion, is beaten but not broken after a lifetime of neglect, abuse and belittling, is finally able to shine under the kindness of her new husband and his people. The hero, Iain, is dynamic, intelligent, strong, dangerous and more than able to protect all those in his care, including his new wife who he vows not to love after the loss he has suffered but love will not be denied even when the enemy makes their move.

I received an ARC for an honest review. Medieval stories are my favorite romance sub-genre so I'm stoked to read more from this new series!

I always love Julie Johnstone's books. This time she wrote about my favourite historical genre: medieval romance so I enjoyed it even more than ever! Marion and Ian are two strong characters, full of life, idealists and very afraid to love. He lost her first wife, Catriona and he feels he cannot love again. She tried to win her father's love without any success.

The book is fast -paced, full of action and an amazing plot! I loved it!

The second characters are also amazing and makes me wonder whose story will be next! I cannot wait because I know all the stories to follow will be great as well!
I highly recommend this series to everyone!

Iain could be a sweet man, intimidating, but sweet, “be still a minute, Marion. I’m intent on being slow and tender with ye, but if ye move at all, I’m afraid I’ll take ye like a mindless beast, I want ye that much.” Iain had his moments of crazy man tantrums but for the most part he was sweet, “ye are mine always,” he growled, sweeping her legs up over his arms. “But I’ll be happy to answer yer plea one touch at a time.” I enjoyed this book I liked Iain I can't wait to see if Bridgette gets a book.

DNF @ 20% (with a whole lot of skimming)

Way waaaay too much talking & explaining and very little action. I mean the heroine is supposed to be running away in the dead of night unplanned and not get caught by her abusive psychotic father but we get 10-15 pages worth of her talking to a friend she bumps into during her escape like she has all the time in the world while her father's guards are storming the ground looking for her and did I mention a fire has also broken out? -_- Didn't seem to phase Ms. Chatty Kathy during her escape. The urgency was completely lacking.

I loved this book. It has an arrogant Scot and a headstrong english lass who are ordered to wed. The dynamic between the two is fantastic and the situations Marion gets herself into while Iain thinks she is safe somewhere because 'he told her to' are really funny.
