The books in the Boy Vs Beast series all follow the same lines; beast makes trouble, boy and robot dog pick weapons/tools, then go fight the beast, conquer it and go home. Isolus follows this same formula.
It's a bit repetitive for me, but my six year old loves them! They are quite simple chapter books with big writing and some illustrations scattered throughout. Even though I'm not enamoured with them, I do feel that they have a place for emergent readers. My boy is capable of reading them himself, though he prefers to share the reading with me, which also gives us extra time to snuggle!
