The Burdened Air #2

The Dog Particle

Rate this book
The disturbing events of The Seurat Construct are cubed in The Dog Particle as Sandu, having been forced through the Seurat Willow at the end of the last book, is now trapped in Sanat with no way home but to complete the search for the weapon and a final confrontation with Loehr on terms forced upon him by Zephyr and a renegade faction of the Eventyr [factotums to the alien cabal – the Rada]. Dinged in signs on the road to nirvanic buggery—life had never felt so much like this before. In a confused, surprising, phantastic, and bloody run across the heartland of the Nexus—then back on Earth—Sandu is forced to confront the fundamental nature of his rage; the intentions of the cabal known as the Rada; the confusing, duplicitous love of a transmogrifying woman; the existential nature of the weapon and his relationship to this; lastly, the fundamental nature and appearance of redemption—behind the drum and bugle Sandu had stumbled upon down on the docks. In The Dog Particle , Book 2 and the conclusion of The Burdened Air , Sandu’s skip across dimensional frontiers, and then back, takes its toll on the man, planet, and metaverse in ways unexpected and troubling for all. Hope, of sorts, remains, because in this is the only way forward—even if ludicrous, debilitating, and—finally—another episode in the Eternal Return, unless Sandu can break the cycle of violation and violence. Wellhauser's voice is undeniably strong in this conclusion to The Burdened Air. This gripping novel picks up right where we left off from book one and the action doesn't quit. The author's world building will leave readers awestruck and they will feel themselves drawn into the story almost instantaneously. Even though it is best to read the first book to fully grip this bizarre tale, The Dog Particle will be applauded by many as a stand alone novel as well. Sandu has grown as a character and his journey will leave one breathless as he continues his quest to search for answers. Incredibly exciting, satisfying and completely out of this world. Another job extremely well done!
