Your Heart is Mine
Isaiah Barker is a deputy in a small town in Southern California. For the past few months, the town has been plagued by a serial killer. Another serial killer. The Ripper, as the locals call him. Isaiah is far less sloppy than this new killer in town. The new killer makes a habit of killing young women and harvesting their organs before leaving the bodies on display for the townspeople to find.
The case was going slow until Rocelyn Blum moved to town. Isaiah takes a liking to her instant-ly, and it forces him into a situation where his only option is to set up his latest kill to make it look like The Ripper did it. The killer doesn’t take too kindly to being blamed for someone else’s work, so he decides to take it out on Rocelyn. Isaiah has to find The Ripper before his game ends and he takes away the only person in Isaiah’s life that can make him feel human.

*** 3.5 Cranky Stars ***
This was an unusual and enjoyable read. Unusual, in that the story brings romance to horror, and strangely, it works.

When reading this work, I thought it was influenced by the behemoth hits, Dexter and Twilight. Dexter - in that our main male lead, Isaiah, is a man with a particular pathology. He’s adopted an ethical framework to contain his urges, and works for law enforcement.

Twilight, in that it answers the question of what is worse than a vampire falling in love with you? Yeah, well, possibly a serial killer.

Filled with snark and dark humor, and a horror backdrop, Your Heart is Mine is the story of Isaiah and Lynnie. He’s a Dexter type Deputy and she’s a recently arrived high school student in a town where a serial killer is in the area.

Their paths cross: the predator and a vulnerable girl, bringing out something in each other. Lynnie has a penchant for getting into trouble and as Isaiah tries to protect her in the only way he knows how, the eyes of the Ripper type serial killer who has been terrorizing neighboring areas are drawn toward our duo.

I actually enjoyed this book, but it is a slow burn. It took until nearly 30 percent to get into the action and I felt that the set up and pace were too slow. I’m glad, however, that I persevered because it ended up being a thoroughly engrossing read.

At times, I wanted more suspense and an encounter or two – a face off, if you will – between serial killers would have added tension to the story.

There are more threads and revelations to come in this series and I look forward to the next one.

And… that ending. Recommended.

Written by Nicole Thorn
This is a horror story that also crosses a number of genres for me. A serial killer who is very analytical and in control of his urges makes up the main character whom reminded me of “Dexter” from the cable tv shows. This character is strong in his make up as a person who is smart, introspective and thinks his need and desires out thoroughly. His world is regimented, he is a public servant who has daily interaction with colleagues and the public and he has a control over his daily life that is very ingrained as an interesting character can be. So what follows is upheaval the main characters life represented by a young woman in conjunction with another serial killer who is killing in his small town. An innocent young woman who brings the main character peace and clarity and even helps him to get passed his social broken identity. A love affair that starts off innocently unfolds that I absolutely loved envisioning while reading each chapter. The writer portrays teen angst, young love and flirtatious dialogue that makes up a lot of how both characters emerge into more than just friends into full blown love affair. While this relationship builds another serial killer is making his/her presence felt not just for the two main characters but the entire township. The story takes the reader into a realistic setting that has the plot soon focusing on the main characters love interest and that means everything he holds dear such as the inner peace, sanity and most importantly this young woman he loves so much. Plenty of blood, violence and mayhem is scattered throughout the story that only adds to an even more compelling read. This story is my first full length novel I read by this author. I eagerly look forward to the next book in this series because of how captivating the writers description, character depth and flowing storyline impressed me to such a large extent.

This story has everything...mystery, suspense, murder, blood, gore, angst, humour, and forbidden romance.
Isaiah is like Jekyll and Hyde. He's a Deputy, the good guy, but he's also a monster. Rocelyn (Lynnie) is a sweet, rich high school kid whose parents care more about work than her. Isaiah soon realizes that the beast within him is calmed by her, that all he wants to do is protect her, doesn't mind being touched by her, wants to spend time with her because she makes him feel human. She only sees the best in him, she's attracted to him and takes every opportunity to flirt and spend time with him. They are mutually obsessed with one another. Where Isaiah normally has no morals, with her he refuses to give in to his attraction because of her age, however, once she turns 18 things definitely heat up! I didn't think I'd like Isaiah, but I definitely ended up cheering for them to get their HEA.
Then there's a worse monster than him, The Ripper...who wants revenge on Isaiah and he's going after Rocelyn. Two killers, both obsessed with the same girl and for completely different reasons. And just when you think everyone's safe, BAM..."Close, but no cigar." This cliffhanger won't having you throwing your book or Kindle across the room, but it will leave you wanting more.

Damn you cliffhanger!
I have mixed feelings about this book. It was an easy read and although, at times, the characters bugged me...it had me to the end. I thought I had it all figured out, but WHAM! I was so wrong. There were moments that I felt that Lynnie was very immature, which goes along with her being only eighteen, but she talked more grown up, so sometimes I didn't think it fit. I rolled my eyes a few times with her behavior.
At the beginning of this book, when Isaiah's age had still not been given, I was seriously cringing with how these two connected. It was inappropriate and a bit disturbing. However, their age gap really wasn't that drastic after all, and so it worked out. These two are awkward, but somehow they fit perfectly together.
I bought this book on a one-click impulse when I saw the cover, which is bloody brilliant by the way, and I'm glad I did.

**This book was provided by the author to Nerd Girl in exchange for an honest review**
If you are a hopeless romantic AND a horror buff like I am then this book is totally for you!! Filled with forbidden romance, mystery, suspense, love, blood, gore and so much more. This book definitely catches your attention and catches you off guard.
In this story we follow Rocelyn. (Lynnie) She is an innocent, sweet rich high school girl. On the verge of being 18 she meets a man Isaiah who she immediately pines for. Taking every opportunity to flirt and entice him as only a teenager can do. Isaiah is a deputy an all around good guy, except for the fact that he's a closet serial killer!!! These two are completely obsessed with each other. Lynnie calms the monster within Isaiah and he finds himself wanting to do nothing more than protect her and be with her. Lynnie of course only sees the best in Isaiah because well let's face it that's how teenage girls are. You get a sense of the whole broken puppy syndrome.
With Isaiah being older and Lynnie not even legal yet, he keeps his distance in a romantic way. BUT once she turned 18 all bets were off and their forbidden romance heats up! At first I was bothered a little by that aspect of the book. Although as I continued further into the story it became clear as to why the storyline started that way and I was no longer bothered. In the midst of all this forbidden attraction and blooming romance we endure ANOTHER serial killer. One who is hell bent on revenge against Isaiah and becomes obsessed with getting to him through Lynnie.
WARNING MAJOR CLIFF HANGER THAT WILL LEAVE YOU STUNNED AND WANTING MORE
I feel I have given away to much already so I will finish with this. The author did a stupendous job at portraying a love story within a serial killing horror mystery. The characters were enticing, intriguing and superbly rendered. This author also lacks predictability which I absolutely LOVE! I'm usually good at figuring out the mysteries, but even I was shocked and blown away at who the second killer was. I did NOT see that coming.
With amazing characters and a completely unique and captivating storyline filled with twists and turns, this book is a must read for horror lovers. As well as romance lovers. Absolutely loved it and I can not wait to read more! Amazing Job! Highly recommend this book. 5 stars!!

Wow. Who knew a horror romance could work…but Nicole Thorn sure makes this one work! And, do I ever love me a good forbidden romance?? Yes, yes I do!
I was immediately pulled into this story, like first sentence. It’s told from both Isaiah and Rocelyn’s (Lynn) point of view, which I really liked. Shortly after she moves to town with her family, she finds out there’s a serial killer on the loose. She’s terrified, as she should be, when she finds out about it. Listen, I grew up in Southern California, in the LA area, in the mid-80’s, when the Night Stalker aka Richard Ramirez, was terrorizing the city. It was horrifying! I could barely sleep at night. So I understand how Lynn was feeling. Little does she know the man she’s going to fall for is just that.
Isaiah is a really interesting character and he’s far more human than he gives himself credit for. He feels an immediate pull towards Lynnie and that creeped me out a tiny bit at first because I wasn’t sure about his age, but I knew he was older than 22 and Lynn is 17 and in high school, so I was apprehensive about any type of relationship forming.
You do eventually find out his age and it’s not as bad as I thought. Plus, nothing happens between them until after she turns 18, so that was good. I would’ve stopped reading if anything had happened prior to that.
I really enjoyed their romance, it was unusual and they really did bring out the best in each other. And that cliffhanger!!! Can’t wait for the next book. I was very pleasantly surprised at how well the two genres meshed. It’s really down to Nicole Thorn’s writing. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who loves to read romance and/or horror. Fabulous read!

This was an interesting read. Two lonely souls thrown together. One cooks to ease the loneliness while the other kills people to satisfy the hunger inside of him in order to feel human afterwards. Then add a new serial killer in the mix and you get yourself an intriguing read.

The suspense was good. The build up was great. The plot moved at a steady pace. I was still none-the-wiser until the end who the killer was and yes, it ended in a cliffhanger so be ready to bite your nails in the end.

One thing I realised while reading this book was that I give a heck of a lot of political license to my preferred genre: Paranormal/Fantasy/Sci-Fi. I found that I expected a degree or sense of realism to murder/mystery type stories hence why I caught myself frowning a few times throughout the book. But that’s just me and nothing to do with the story itself.

One of those issues is that there’s a surprising lack of nosy neighbours or nosy people who seem to take photos or selfies of everything. The killer was dropping bodies after bodies in broad daylight in a small town. Somebody was bound to see him/her. The others I’m not going to bother mentioning as they are quite minor and more of a personal issue than anything else.

Still I found it very entertaining and quite a good read. I also heard that this is a series of 3 books. The question now is: Who did it?

I have a major case of book hangover after reading your heart is mine! I can’t stop thinking about what happened, I loved this book!
I loved that although there was romance, the romance took a bit of a back seat in the story, the storyline was mainly focused on the killings.
At one point I thought I had figured who the killer was,. I were wrong. If I am totally honest, I am the type of person that figures out who the bad guy is straight away, so for ‘’Your heart is mine” to blindside me into not knowing who it were was brilliant!
I found a connection with Isaiah, which I wasn’t expecting to. I was expecting to absolutely hate him and not want a killer to have a happy ending but with Isaiah I was cheering him on, I wanted him and his Lynnie to get together! I loved the connection between them, his insecurities and some of the stuff Roclynn said had me in stitches! I was literally on the edge of my seat the whole way through, wanting a romance between Lynn and Isaiah and wanting the killer to be revealed and caught!
And as for the ending? I was literally shouting at the book when it ended on a cliffhanger! I NEED and I repeat NEED the second book now! I don’t know what to do with myself because,Your heart is mine is still stuck in my head and I don’t think I can move on! I finished reading it at 6am this morning and I haven’t even opened another book since! ( which is very unusual for me).
