I received an eARC, from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. This is book two in the "Urban Dwellers" series. I have read the previous book but didn't feel that it was necessary to read that book to enjoy this one. Although I was glad I did as I have enjoyed the stories. Wolf shifter Anthony Atwood is expert on shifter psychological behavior, writes books and has appeared in courts for some cases. Maggie O’Hara is a prosecutor who has seen Tony in court before. Now she has been sent a file on him that she goes to confront him with. Her boss finds out the next day and puts her on leave but she ends up just leaving her job. Tony offers her a job and they start working on a issue he and his friends had several years ago when they were young. While working on the case Tony has to fight his feelings that Maggie is his 'mate". He knows right now she wouldn't be opened to that. This does in with a cliffhanger to proceed into the next book.
This story focuses on; ANTHONY ATWOOD {Tony}, a lady magnet, blue-eyed powerful charismatic wolf-shifter, and expert Psychologist for shifters. MAGGIE O’HARA, a sassy, fiery red-head, intelligent human; attorney/prosecutor.
What you’ll find in the story: a cast of remarkably impressive and engaging characters; spectacular story-line, picturesque and powerful scene descriptions, superb banter, camaraderie, action, gripping suspense, mystery, horrific danger, life threatening incident, gut-wrenching moments, abduction, magic, earth-shattering toe curling sensual romance, and a shocking conclusion that has you on the edge of your seat craving answers.....
Anthony Atwood has the world at his feet, everything going well for him, beautiful women chase him, has his pick of psychological cases, talk shows and the like, but of late he has been ill-tempered and bored. Maggie O’Hara lost a case due to Anthony’s psychological winning testimony so when a cold case regarding him is dropped in her lap, she cannot resist the temptation to check it out on her own. After several failed attempts of trying to set up an appointment with him, Maggie tracks him down at a benefit dinner. When Tony meets Maggie an unfamiliar desire washes over him bringing his wolf to attention. Maggie catches him off guard when she asks questions about the year of the cold case. He is astonished, eager to learn how she knows about the past that has haunted him for years. Horrid danger lurks in the shadows so Tony comes up with a plan to keep Maggie by his side protected as they set out to learn the truth.
WOW/SPECTACULAR creative read by a truly gifted author. Spine-chilling suspense, breathtaking scene descriptions, and intriguing plot keep you glued to the story. I was so amazed at the shocking reveal, I screamed. The chemistry between Tony and Maggie is more than convincing; their romance is passionate and steamy. Maggie’s feisty persona is just what Tony needed to keep is ill-temper and boredom at bay. I relished this story, a most exhilarating read, and eagerly await the next book. If you treasure shifter romance this is a terrific book for your library. {I was gifted this book, and this is my completely honest review} In the world of shifter romance the possibilities are endless and always fascinating. Without reservation I recommend this book.

Thoughts: After reading the first book in this series, Silence That Sizzles, I simply had to read book two – if for no other reason than to have at least found out the truth of what happened regarding the ‘secret’ that bind the three Urban Dwellers together. Oddly enough, I was a bit conflicted between books one and two….there were a number of things about book one that I liked better, but some things that I liked better when it came to book two. In book one, I really liked the characters and the story, but I felt like so much background was missing that kept me from really and truly connecting with the characters the way I wanted to. Book two seemed a bit stronger in that area, and did a really good job fitting in bits and pieces of the history surrounding their ‘mysterious secret’, but it left off on a big cliffhanger! Obviously, the story will continue with book three, but for a lot of readers this is going to be one of those cliffhangers that really bug you and leave you feeling dissatisfied. Luckily there is only about a week in between book release dates, so you don’t have to be tortured for very long!
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Secrets that Simmer by Ivy Sinclair is Book 2 of the Urban Dwellers Series. This is my first time reading Ms. Sinclair’s work; even though this is part of a series and I haven’t yet read Book 1, I didn’t feel at a disadvantage in starting out on this book first. I will be going back and reading Book 1 just so I am all caught up and in the know.
This particular book is Tony and Maggie’s story. Ms. Sinclair gives us strong characters, a defined world and a great chemistry between the romantic couple while also supplying us with thrills, chills, and mystery surrounding an occurrence that happened in Tony’s past, of which he has no recollection. Maggie is brought into the thick of things when she receives an anonymous package from a courier that raises questions in Maggie’s eyes, and fuels her need to make sure responsible parties for any and all wrongdoings are held accountable. Is Tony a killer? Who is supplying Maggie with the packages of info, and who is now stalking Maggie? Many strange things are taking place; could all this possibly be tangled up together or are these two separate happenings?
The reason I didn’t rate this a 5 star is that there were a few spots that I felt details got all twisted up in the telling and were more confusing then they should have been for the readers which causes the unclear writing to take away from the flow and full enjoyment of the story. Also, I found that Tony’s name was mistakenly switched to Eric and made for a bit more confusion. The last thing that tipped the scales was the cliffhanger ending…not a fan of them. In this instance it works well and I can appreciate why the author ended the book this way while still banging my head on my desk and yelling, “Nooooooooo!!!” While minor, these things all add up. So overall, I found this to be an intriguing read, and I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.
Tony was thirty-four an author, as well as a psychologist, and wolf shifter. Tony’s family was rich his father was in politics and had wanted Tony to follow in his footsteps but that isn’t what Tony wanted to do with his life. Tony also testified in shifter cases of his choice. Maggie O’Hara was a assistant D A on the rise. Maggie received an envelope from a courier rather late on a Friday night. It had a picture of Tony and an article about a cold case that happened in Virginia from 1999 of a suspected homicide of three young women but no bodies were found. Maggie went to an engagement she knew Tony was to speak at and stopped him and asked him what he knew about October twenty-third, 1999.Tony also found out that night that Maggie was his fated mate. But he was shocked that Maggie was questioning about that date. I really loved this story until the last couple of chapters then it was a whole other story and to top it off ended in a cliffhanger which i hate and is happening more and more. Otherwise this would have been a five. But I think the ending should have been a different story, the next part to this. Anyway i did love the characters and all the twists and turns other than Jullian. I recommend just know the cliffhanger part and change in story. I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.
Tony and Maggie seem to be on opposites sides of the courtroom. But when Maggie starts getting threats and Tony finds out that Maggie is his mate, his only option is to stick by her side to protect her. As they start to uncover what's behind the threats, they realize it's more than just Maggie life that's on the line. Cliffhanger ending. You won't want to wait for the next installment! 5 stars!!
I was very excited to read this book after seeing the description, and I was not disappointed. I really enjoyed how this story came together and the plot flowed and was understandable. The characters were intense but each held their own to build a independence on their own. This series has so much going for it and I'm excited to see where it leads. Must read.
