A Fine Mess is a passionate romance written with flirty dialogue and complex characters. Throw in some fun in the sun, a touch of angst and real life situations, and you've found yourself a winner! Kelly Siskind is a fresh new voice in the romance genre and is not an author that you'll want to miss.

I love RomComs, I really do, but my heart cannot lie. I'm an angst and sexual tension whore. So when we mix all of the above together, I'm a little firecracker bursting with joy. A Fine Mess is the type of story I love because it mixes all of these elements together. Sawyer's humour made me snort, while during the angsty times I thought my heart might explode. Then there are highs when your heart is so full it could burst and lows when you have no idea how everything could possibly work out. This book has everything a reader could want.

The slapping waves punctuate the moment, then she leans in to kiss my cheek.
I move so she hits my lips.
I kiss her hard, not caring who’s here. Buy a ticket. Take a picture. Videotape the moment. As far as I’m concerned, the people around us don’t exist.
“I’m not sure how I’ll survive you.”

Oh Sawyer, where do I even start with you? How about here: Mine, mine, mine. If you need something to give you a quick understanding of this hero, it's this quote exactly.

“But enough about my first-world problems, why was Sawyer dancing like an extra from High School Musical?”
I unleash my sleep apnea snorting sound. “He was trying to make things less weird between us.”
“Seriously?”
I nod.

I LOVED this guy. Yes he's immature, yes he's hot and he knows it, yes he's cocky. But you know what else? He's sincere, selfless, supportive, and has a much bigger heart than he originally lets on. And he quotes Monty Python! His struggle isn't something that you'd normally see in books, which was fantastic. It also runs so much deeper than you can first imagine. Plus, he calls Lily, Lil, which is the cutest thing ever.

When I was reading this book, one day after work I plugged my iPod into my car for the drive home. One song in particular came on and it hit me like a ton of bricks, I got chills. It's perfect for Sawyer and it's perfect for the story. Be sure when you're reading to have a listen to Beneath Your Beautiful by Labrinth and Emeli Sande. More specifically, Emeli's verse. I could imagine this as Lily singing it about Sawyer.

You let all the girls go
Makes you feel good, don't it?
Behind your Broadway show
I heard a boy say, "Please, don't hurt me"

You've carried on so long
You couldn't stop if you tried it.
You've built your wall so high
That no one could climb it,
But I'm gonna try

Would you let me see beneath your beautiful?
Would you let me see beneath your perfect?
Take it off now, boy, take it off now, boy
I wanna see inside
Would you let me see beneath your beautiful tonight, oh, tonight?

I'm gonna climb on top your ivory tower
I'll hold your hand and then we'll jump right out
We'll be falling, falling but that's OK
'Cause I'll be right here
I just wanna know

Lily is a lot different than I could have possibly imagined after reading the first book in the series. She has a lot that's she's dealing with on the inside and it was incredible being inside of her brain. I actually felt a lot of similarities with her character while reading. She's quite relatable, down to earth and humble, but also can be shy and has some insecurities just like every other woman and girl in this world. It's how she deals with and overcomes these things, all while sticking up for herself and demanding the respect and treatment that she deserves that not only make her a fantastic character, but really shows her development throughout the story.

Something I love about Kelly's stories is that she takes normal issues and faces them head on. She doesn't exaggerate. There's no extra bullshit just to fill space or build plot. She delves deep into each issue and explores the route of the conflict. Why might the characters act this way, what are their reservations and how can they be overcome, etc. The reader gets to experience it all.

Another fantastic point relating to this really has to deal with how deep these issues go. I loved the depth in the first book in the series, My Perfect Mistake, but A Fine Mess felt so much more personal. In some books, you're told about a MC's problem and the significant other helps them work through it. But what happens when each character has reservations about an impending relationship? Clearly, from the synopsis, you know Sawyer is a playboy. But why? His thought process goes so much farther than you might expect, and the exploration of this is so needed. Then what about Lily? Sweet, humble Lily who we met in My Perfect Mistake? She dealt with things that I would have never expected but it was eye opening to read about. I've never read another story even close to something like this. Kelly doesn't do cookie cutter, Kelly does awesome.

Brakes screech, horns honk, and we collide as he grabs me by my ribs and lifts me up, up, up. We’re every ending to every romantic comedy. We’re glitter and roses. We’re love finding its way home.

Belize. The characters go in a freaking trip to Belize. Need I say more? No, I don't, but I will. Who doesn't love a little fun in the sun? And besides, when the temperature rises, so does the steam level! These two are on fire, their chemistry is undeniable. On top of this, were gifted with 'the pact'. There's a deal that whatever you feel like saying, doing or touching (wink wink) you do so without reservations. Um... This is... I guess, kind of freaking genius! I loved it. Not only did it help these two become more comfortable with each other but also with the situation they had found themselves in.

How could I possibly forget the secondary characters? The gang is all back together at different points throughout this story, and trust me, they're still as perfect as before! Every one of them deserves high fives for how fantastic they all are.

Raven slides over, her hip pressed to mine as we squeeze together, and she leans toward the screen. “I’m not talking to you.”
When she doesn’t embellish, Shay says, “If this is about the time I was drunk and mistook your shoes for the toilet, I’m done apologizing. It was an accident. It could’ve happened to anyone.”

I have a big love affair with endings. That last chapter, those last few paragraphs tying everything together, and especially with last lines. I have a serious hard on for last lines, just saying. So it's with the utmost grace and composure that I can say THAT ENDING THOUGH!
Oh.
My.
Gosh.
Damn Saywer! You know how it's done! I'll be honest, I figured out what he was planning and started internally cringing. I kept thinking it's not the right time and doesn't make sense with everything that has happened so far, but then the explanation, the setting, the absolute perfection of dialogue, and I just about died right then and there. Talk about melting in a puddle of swooniness. Even if you're the grinch and don't like puppies, dessert or Kelly's books (see where I'm going with this?) you have to admit that she does endings right. Seriously. First Kolton, now Sawyer. We've been warned that Nico is a big mushy romantic guy so I know that he'll top these two, but I don't know if my little swoon and angst loving heart can take it! Just give me all of the boys.

At its basics, love is a transaction—every kiss and touch a deposit, mutual support a down payment. If you invest wisely, the payoff is tenfold. I plan on going all in and scoring big.

Kelly continues to impress with the newest instalment in the Over The Top series. I have also since decided that I want her to write my life, cause that could be pretty cool, right? Right! But also because she just gets it. She gets what the reader wants, what the characters struggle with, and weaves it all into a tangible piece of art. I don't have many auto buy authors but she is quickly becoming one of them. Congrats Kelly, A Fine Mess is another winner! Mark my words, this is an author to watch.

5 Superhero-sexy-as-sin stars!

description

When I read My Perfect Mistake, the first book in (Over The Top) series I fell in love with the whole package. The story of Shay aka The bitch and Kolton aka The Asshole is still one of my 2016 best reads.

description

A Fine Mess, the second book in the series and another one of my 2016's best reads.

From the blurb and from what I read about these two amazing characters in My Perfect Mistake, I knew that this book would be a success and I wasn't disappointed at all.

With a shopaholic sexy and gorgeous woman and a man as handsome as sin, Sawyer and Lily took us in a journey full of love, lust, angst and hope...

When her beloved nana died, Lily couldn't get over her loss. To save her nana's belongings from donation, she stocked them in a farmhouse she bought secretly.

To ease her stress and anxiety, Lily started to shop a lot but couldn't seem to stop the habit until she met Sawyer, the sexy as sin Moondog owner. The man she works for and the one she wouldn't have because of her loyalty to her boyfriend of eleven years.

When Sawyer first met Lily in Aspen, he knew that she would be the one but with a boyfriend in the way he would take whatever scraps she might offer. However, he wouldn't make it easy on her.

"If I can't have her, she should suffer, too."

When Lily finally broke up with her boyfriend, Sawyer had to make his move and claim the woman he spent a whole year fantasizing about. But how could he take such a dangerous risk and then mess things up like his father did and lose both Lily's designer skills and precious friendship.

But again, he shouldn't have kissed her because...

Both Lily and Sawyer had issues to overcome, but the things they felt together were worth fighting for.

With Kolton and Sawyer and their more than amazing stories, I can't wait to read Nico's story. Kelly Siskind thanks for those amazing journeys with Kolton and Sawyer. Keep on writing those awsome books.

I broke my number one rule again and I didn't start this series from book 1. I dived straight into this one since I saw that it focused on a different couple than the first one. I got a few spoilers here and there from book one but it wasn't anybody's fault but mine so it didn't come close to ruining my experience. (To be fair, I looked for it at my library and they didn't have it.)
Anyway, I loved this book! Kelly has been added to my auto-read author list because of it.
This book focused on Sawyer and Lily, two characters who met in book one. We get both of their POV's as they go through hardships that make it hard for them to open up to someone else completely.
Sawyer has family issues that hit close to home for me and Lily was experiencing something I've heard about but never had the opportunity to read about. Sawyer is the type of guy that is aware of his own attractiveness but yet manages to be down to earth and humorous. His intentions are always good and I loved meeting him. Lily is a strong heroine that I grew to be proud of. My respect for her kept multiplying throughout the story.
I absolutely loved seeing them together. They were so genuine with each other even when they weren't. That probably doesn't make any sense but if you read it, it just might. Their attraction to each other was apparent in their every action; It was apparent from the very first page and I never had any doubts about it. Their devotion to each other's well being was beautiful to witness too. They supported each other in every way they could and it was incredible. Both of their character developments were phenomenal. The pace and everything felt as real as life and I couldn't tear my eyes away. Their success and failures felt like my own and I couldn't help but cheer them on every step of the way, as individuals and as a couple. And their chemistry... Oh my. It was on fire, to say the least. It goes without saying that I would love to see where their story goes next! This adventure with them didn't last long enough for me and I doubt it ever will.
This book had me shedding tears from laughing so hard from the very first page. The humor didn't let up from cover to cover and I loved seeing the main hero be funnier than the usual guys I read about. It was definitely a breath of fresh air. This story also felt like I was reading every thought that had passed through my head in many occasions. It spoke to me on so many different levels and my connection to it was something I wasn't expecting but appreciate nonetheless. This was the perfect combination of fluff and heavy and I can't recommend it enough.

This is second in a series and the friend-group background and the relationship back and forth are setup in that first book. Definitely read that one first. Then consider whether you want to continue to this idiocy.

The problem that stalls this story out is evident from the start. I gave it a full 25% before pulling the plug and I really wish that I hadn't. Siskind did the conflict pretty well in My Perfect Mistake giving us some people variously broken figuring out how to heal and come together. They're both broken in this one as well and I'm a little interested in figuring out what's up with Lily even as I'm concerned that the withholding (particularly with her girl friends) is just rote and as out of character as it seems.

But Sawyer is an idiot and I can't stand that loser any more. And this is the fault of the author because Sawyer's hang-up is dumb and not something real people actually believe, let alone act on. To believe that your DNA will make it impossible to be faithful in a relationship is, frankly, stupid. It's superstitious hornswaggle and something even a mildly educated person would be skeptical of before adopting it as his life's motto. And this is even dumber because Sawyer has a brother who is very smitten and apparently faithful (there are hints of cracks there, though, so I suspect Siskind is setting up a stupid setback for later on when some infidelity comes out). At any rate, making himself and Lily so miserable on something that isn't even possible is dumb and hanging the entire conflict in a romance on it is lazy characterization.

So yeah, this is stupid negative motivation* that is, indeed, killing plot dead. Every forward motion is hobbled because Sawyer has the brakes on so hard he's scraping asphalt. So as lovely as Lily is, I just can't take Sawyer jerking her around over and over and over again.

* Negative Motivations: I kind of hate that the term "negative motivation" isn't widespread, yet. Since it isn't, I'm going to save off this little jag to append to my reviews that feature the term. Jennifer Crusie blogged about it a bit back and it changed how I understand story. The problem with the term is that if you've never heard it before, you'd assume it meant motivations that are harmful or immoral. Not so. What it refers to is motivations not to do something. The thing is that many of us are motivated to not do things for a lot of different, perfectly valid and reasonable, reasons. The problem is that in a story motivations to not do things are a huge drag on the plot—particularly considering the fact that most negative motivations are overcome by the character simply deciding they don't care any more (or, rather, that they do care and are now motivated to do the thing). So not only do you have a counter to action but you also have a situation where to overcome it, all a character has to do is change their mind. Which means eventually, the reader is rooting for the character to get over him/herself already and do the thing we want them to do. Conflict drives story. Conflict between a reader and a main character drives readers away from story.

4.5/5

I have been eagerly awaiting Kelly Siskind's A Fine Mess, having absolutely devoured the first book in this fun companion series. As much as I adored My Perfect Mistake, I knew that this one would topple every expectation that I had for it. And boy did it slay all my expectations and give me one of the swooniest romance novels I have ever read.

Sawyer and Lily met in the first book in Aspen. Despite the crackling chemistry between the two, they never acted on their lust because of Lily being in a long-term relationship. But they remain very good friends and even work together. One of my concerns going into A Fine Mess was that Lily would take forever to break up with her boyfriend, but I was pleasantly surprised that they broke up very early on in the book, realizing that she wasn't in love with him and that they both deserved better.

I loved loved loved Lily's character so much. She was quirky, sweet and so gentle. She's the kind of main character who seems quiet when she's surrounded by her loud and vibrant friends, but who is internally one of the brightest and strongest people out there. Lily is also a compulsive shopper and hoarder, not in a cute way, but in a serious and unhealthy way. It's something she started doing after her nana passed. Every time she is stressed, she goes on a thrift-shopping spree and makes up back-stories about the things she buys. She is also dealing with this all by herself. I really appreciated Kelly Siskind shedding light into this form of OCD and doing so with care. It's always nice when you can learn something from a book.

Sawyer was easily able to woo me too as did Lily. He had that playboy status going around him that I wasn't entirely sure about, but it was so very obvious that he was head over heels in love with Lily. He does everything he can to make her smile and he's just always there for her. His family life hasn't been the easiest and he's afraid that he'll turn out to be a cheater just as the rest of his family members, so he is very reluctant to start an intimate relationship with Lily. Sawyer could be very bull-headed at times, but I fell hard for this guy. His thinking might have been flawed, but I thought it was incredibly sweet that he wanted to protect Lily. I loved it even more when he went after her and chased her and made her feel special. Sawyer was everything that I love in a romantic hero.

The romance was everything that I wanted it to be. I loved that it started off with friendship. And when Sawyer chases after Lily to Belize? Oh my heart! The chemistry between them was intense and so very achy. I couldn't help but cheer on for these to kiss and find their way to their happily ever after together. What's also terrific about the romance between Sawyer and Lily was how openly they communicated with each other. They were a couple that gave equal attention to the talking and physical aspects of their relationship. And the fact that they are supportive of each other and just how much they encourage each other to be better versions of themselves made me believe in their romance fiercely. And oh my goodness! The ending scenes of them reuniting were so so romantic. There's no doubt about it, Sawyer and Lily are one of my all-time favorite OTPs!

The female friendship in the Over the Top series is also great. I love the bond between Lily, Raven and Shay. They are the kind of girl friends who would spread rumors about your ex having an STD or burn their car, if you asked them too. They were that solid and they always brought a smile on my face when they interacted together. It was nice getting to see Shay and Kolton going strong as ever and being horny as ever! ;) I'm also ridiculously excited for Raven and Nico's story. I NEED to know what happened between them in Aspen.

A Fine Mess is the perfect book to read if you want a romance book to leave you with all the feels. It's funny, sweet and oh so romantic. Kelly Siskind is a literary forced to be reckoned with in the contemporary romance genre and I can't wait to see what else she has to offer.

Humour? Check

Angst? Check

Bad boy hero? Check

Sexual Tension? Check check

Is there anything better than an angsty romance filled to overflowing with sexual tension between two friends trying desperately to fight the attraction between them? No, I don’t think there is.

Well, maybe if you add in a semi-bad-boy-man-whore who is just ever so slightly obsessed with a girl who belongs to another man. If you make him impossibly sweet with a bit of a dirty streak you’ll get very close to a perfect version of my ultimate book boyfriend. Make him a little jealous and slightly possessive and then mix in some reason why he can’t be with our girl and you’re there, solidly inside the circle of YUM!

I loved that the fact that Siskind didn’t rush the romance between these two characters. There was no denying the sexual tension between these two. Their attraction towards each other was tangible and so perfectly described it left me breathless at times. Even though their attraction was instant, their romance was more of a delicious slow burn that sometimes erupted into some very heated moments. Their story also doesn’t follow a straight line and there are many obstacles they will have to overcome if they ever hope to be together.

Kelly Siskind is an author that continues to surprise me. She writes some amazing characters that all feel so unique and weaves them inside a deliciously angsty story. This time however, she managed to add in some pretty heavy emotional issues without it becoming in the least bit overbearing or stifling. All in all this book was extremely difficult to put down. I fed off of their tension and angst and though I was frustrated with both of these characters at times, I finished it with a giant smile on my face!

I cannot wait to read Nico’s book!

It feels a little bit like Kelly Siskind stumbled upon a file folder of all the things I like and is writing books specifically tailored to me. If that is the case, I should probably be a little concerned but frankly, I just hope it never stops. A Fine Mess is everything—everything—that I love in books and I don't really even know where to begin fangirling.

Maybe the emotional layers?
I wasn't really expecting those. At the 10% mark my heart broke for the first time—and it broke a couple more times after that because Lily and Sawyer? Oof. These are not one-dimensional characters. This is not a fluffy little love story. Ms. Siskind strikes this balance between heartbreakingly emotional and laugh out loud funny—with generous heaps of white hot heat and endearing girl power (with a little bit of adorable bromance on the side) and the end result is that, basically, this book is everything. Including wonderful.

How about the pop culture references?
LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. These hit me in my sweet spots and relate directly back to that file folder full of all the things I like. Including some thinly veiled and much-appreciated nerdiness . Whatever pieces of my heart that Sawyer and Lily didn't manage to steal, were snatched up by these little nuggets of awesome laced throughout the book.

And, of course, the love story.
The chemistry between Lily and Sawyer wasn't a surprise. If you read My Perfect Mistake, you already knew that something was boiling here—and that build-up did not disappoint. I adored Lily and Sawyer together. I loved their honesty, their playfulness, and their affection. My heart opened itself right up to these two beautiful, flawed, amazing characters and it was rewarded for that openness. There are bumps in the road, but everything is treated with such care, and resolved so beautifully, that I even loved the bumps.

I feel like I'm just scratching the surface of all the reasons this book—and this series—is so fantastic. I loved the chance to catch up with Kolton and Shay, and the teasers for Raven and Nico (*grabby hands go wild*) and, most of all, I loved the time I just spent falling in love with Lily and Sawyer.

These books are the best. If you're not reading them yet, you need to remedy that immediately. I promise you will not be disappointed! ~ Shelly, 5 stars

RECENSIONE QUI: https://thereadingslove.blogspot.com/...

description

:: 4.5 Pretty Little Stars ::

I LOVE Kelly Siskind's stories. She brings about the best characters, amazing plotlines, and truly captivating stories that will leave you hooked. A Fine Mess, while can be read as a standalone, is the second book in the Over The Top series. It features Sawyer and Lily (who you first meet as secondary characters in My Perfect Mistake) and their blossoming relationship. These two, OMG talk about SWOON. They totally melted my heart into a puddle. I loved their banter and they way the two grew together. Gah, it is utter perfection! This is definitely one of those stories (and series) that all fans of romance need to read. Kelly knows what her readers want in a story and she gives it to them! Obviously, I highly recommend this one. In fact, I recommend all her books!

4 stelline e mezzo!

Sensualità: tensione sessuale e scene hot presenti
Caratteristiche: romantico, emotivo, sexy

Sawyer likes to show his emotions through actions, "two soft kisses later, he pulls away. “That about covers it. Anything you’d like to add?” More like subtract: his shirt, his shorts, his boxers." I really liked Sawyer, I mean the man had a way about him, “keep that up, babe, and I’ll come in my swimsuit. I’d rather not find out if sharks are attracted to semen.” I really liked this book, I loved Sawyer.

Review: Ever since I read My Perfect Mistake, the first book in the Over The Top series, I've been waiting for Lily and Sawyer's story in A Fine Mess. And I'm glad to tell you it was definitely worth the wait. All books in this series can be read as standalones, but give them all a chance as each book is very good! :)
We had a glimpse of Lily and Sawyer's friendship in My Perfect Mistake. There is a connection and attraction between them. They get each other. But, Lily has a long-term boyfriend and Sawyer doesn't do relationships. In the beginning we see Lily finally break up with Kevin. She had tried to do so many times before, but could never fully do it.There wasn't really any passion left in the relationship and they hadn't been intimate for a long time.Lily also acknowledges the fact that she is attracted to Sawyer. And though she isn't breaking up with Kevin for him, it definitely would be great if they could give things between them a chance.

Sawyer has always been Mr.One Night Stand.Even though Lily makes him long for a relationship, he isn't confident that he will make her happy due to his personal issues. In the West family, everyone has cheated on their respective others and things always end in divorce. He doesn't want Lily to end up the way his mother did-heartbroken and depressed. So he avoids relationships.

When Lily lets him know that she has broken up with Kevin, he doesn't know how to respond and ends up behaving as an asshole.Lily doesn't know what to make of this as Sawyer has always shown interest in her.Lily also has her own set of anxiety issues. She is also a compulsive shopper and a hoarder. But, noone knows about this as she doesn't want to be seen as crazy.Even her BFF's Shay adn Raven are unaware. But, Sawyer always brings out the best in her.He sees through her lies and excuses and always accepts her as she is.

It was beautiful seeing the way the relationship developed between the two of them.So cute!
Each character had their issues, and the author has handled it in a delicate and wonderful manner.I loved Sawyer's POV a lot this time!It was laugh-out-loud funny.Masturbation Olympics *snorts*
The superhero and superpower references were awesome(my inner geek loved it)!
Lily's character was also amazing! The way she imagines stories behind objects was beautiful. She was such a sweet, loyal character with a hidden store of spunk.

It was great seeing Shay,Kolton,Raven and Nico again. They are such a great set of friends. The additional secondary characters like Sawyer's brother,sister-in-law and parents also added to the story.Though there was a little bit of drama, I enjoyed it a lot!The romance+steam was well done. The ending and the way things were resolved between them was very satisfying.:D
Now, I can't wait for Raven and Nico's story in the next book. They are both such intriguing characters, I'm pretty sure it'll be awesome!
So,what are you waiting for?Go and grab this book and if you haven't read Shay and Kolton's story yet, start with My Perfect Mistake!

This story takes turns being sexy and sweet with two leads you will fall head-over-heels for. I really liked the theme of self-forgiveness that ran throughout the novel; Sawyer and Lily ultimately bring out the best in each other, which I feel all great relationships do. Highly enjoyable read, and highly recommended for fans of romantic fiction!

Love when I find and fall in love with a new author!

So I stumbled across this author and book late at night when I couldn't sleep and thank you insomnia!! This story just sucked me in and didn't let go. Granted,I didn't read the first book but I still enjoyed the story. Sawyer and Lily. They both like each other but they won't act on their attraction. Lily has a boyfriend of 12 years named Kevin who she isn't in love with but is scared to break it off. Sawyer due to rampant family infidelities won't commit to just one woman. Soon all this changes and they take the plunge.

I enjoyed their relationship, their connection and the banter between the both of them. This book had a lot of laugh out loud moments, sexy moments and heartbreaking ones as well. We do hit a rough patch in the book and my heart broke into tiny pieces. Like how could you do this to Lily? After everything she's been through you go and hurt her even more!!!! Man oh man I felt like crying and had to stop reading. Sawyer and Lily do reconnect but I loved how Lily was tough and held her ground. Most books the author glosses over the couples issues but not this author. The main characters knew they both had issues and needed to do a lot of work on their own and together to make this relationship work. I loved seeing that aspect in a story. I truly enjoyed this story and will be reading the first book and continuing with the series. You have a new fan Kelly Siskind.

A Fine Mess

QueenZany 4 Star Review

A Fine Mess
by Kelly Siskind

Another well written humor filled book by Kelly Siskind. She seems to understand what her readers are yearning for. Which she delivers in A “Fine Mess.” Yes and ever tangible novel that is worth geekiness. Who the heck writes books with quotes from “Monty Python”? See that’s why I'm so fond of Kelly Siskind writing. My inner Geek is doing it’s happy dance. Awww good book!!!

RECENSIONE COMPLETA QUI: https://innamoratadiunlibro.blogspot....

Ti odio sempre di più Over the Top Kelly Siskind

After finishing My Perfect Mistake I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Lily and Sawyer’s book to find out just what was going to happen with all that crazy sexual tension that was constantly surrounding them when they were together and I have to say I wasn’t disappointed. I got highly frustrated with certain things and down right pissed at others, but I also laughed and swooned in equal measure and ended up enjoying the way their story played out.

The saying “never judge a book by it’s cover” is the best way to describe both Lily and Sawyer because what’s lurking below the surface for both of them isn’t pretty. Lily is the sweet, shy girl next door type, who I swear has a Libra soul because of how indecisive the woman can be with almost everything non-work related. Though she is shy, she isn’t a doormat and will speak her mind when it matters. But Lily has a secret compulsion that she has hidden from everyone and she barely keeps leashed and I have to admit that my own anxiety over it rose with hers as she fought to keep it at bay and the urge to reach out and hug her was huge.

Sawyer is the resident no strings attached manwhore with an immature streak and the go to guy when you need a laugh, even when you don’t want to laugh. But though he appears to be happy with his life, he has scars from an incident that occurred when he was a child and has colored his view on ever being in a committed relationship. I have to admit that I spent a good portion of the book irritated with Sawyer, even when his sweet and compassionate side came out ~ which was pretty damn swoon worthy, because his “I’m not good for you” thing got really old. But after finding out what the incident was and how those apart of it handled it, or didn’t handle it as the case may be, and I ended up being pissed off FOR him and quite honestly that feeling hasn’t faded yet and it’s almost 24 hrs since I finished the book. But, I will say that once Sawyer got his head on straight I ended up loving him.

The question of how Lily and Sawyer’s HEA would finally begin and playout was one of the questions that I had upon finishing My Perfect Mistake because the chemistry between them on all levels was explosive and though I figured it would be a rocky road, I didn’t expect it to be this rocky. The roller coaster ride with Lily and Sawyer went on was intense and though the angst was high because of the demons that are nipping at both their heels it was tempered by sweet moments that had me swooning. Lily and Sawyer KNOW each other. They know how to interpret a smile as well as understand what a certain tick means. They see the other better than they see themselves and regardless of their reasons for their actions, or inaction, they want the best for each other. But though the ride was a rough one, I really like where they were when the book ended and thought it was perfect for them.

This book brought out all the feels even if it they tended to be more of the violent type, it still had me reacting above and beyond my norm. I loved catching up with Shay and Kolton and spending time with Nico and Raven, whom I absolutely ADORE, and I cannot wait to get my hands on their book to find out what happened between the cop and artist in Aspen and see what it’ll take for them to get their HEA

I read A Fine Mess immediately after finishing My Perfect Mistake. It made for a great binge. I was totally into the world and the characters, so jumping right into the second book made perfect sense. I'm glad I did, even though the wait for the third book is going to be kinda brutal. Totally worth it... and it's not like I can't just reread these first books before going into the third one. Both of them are certainly reread worthy.

I was already half in love with Lily and Sawyer before I even picked this book up. I loved their chemistry when they first met in My Perfect Mistake. I loved how close they became after that. Of course, you had the messiness of Lily already having a boyfriend and Sawyer being, well, a manwhore. (Which you all know is NOT my favorite...) But somehow it worked. The more I learned about him, the more I understood where he was coming from. I could defend his manwhoredness. (Yep, just making words up.) Fortunately, once he and Lily decided to give things between them a try – which took some time because they were both afraid that if things went wrong it would ruin the friendship they'd built – his other ways were left (thankfully) behind. While I don't like manwhores, I DO love watching the previously commitment phobic guy go ALL IN for one woman once he's fallen. THAT makes my heart happy.

There was maybe a little more back and forth than I would've liked in this book, but it all worked in the end. I might not've liked some of the back and forth, but I got it. Their friendship was very important to both of them and this attraction/chemistry/lust threatened it, in a way. I'm not sure either of them would've bounced back from it fully. The romance was great. It gave me humor, hot sexy times and feels galore. The characters were far from perfect, but I really liked how their imperfections, pasts and vices were handled and how they helped each other grow into stronger people. I was totally addicted to these characters, the romances and the friendships. I'm more than a little in love with each of the characters in this series and, honestly, with the author for giving me such fresh storylines and amazing, engaging writing.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.

FAVORITE QUOTES
Lily has hijacked my brain. Lily and her white-blond hair and pink lips and hypnotic gray eyes. Lily and her "boyfriend.

"I've seen what happens when a man hurts a woman. I've lived it. And us, this thing we have, it's strong enough that if I hurt you, I could do some real damage. I'm not sure it's worth the risk."

I've stopped frequenting bars. No late-night booty calls. The Masturbation Olympics have returned to Vancouver, Lily the sole sponsor.

"Looks like your dry spell has ended. I predict a rainy season. Monsoons. Hurricanes. I hope you're prepared."

"If I let myself love you, my heart's not yours to throw away. I won't go through that again."

"Thing is, Lil, you're my sun. You're the start of everything. Nothing works without you. I lose you, and the rest is chaos."

Siskind has written herself into my heart with her previous books especially with Chasing Crazy . She has made it on my HAVE to read lists of authors, basically I will read anything of hers I get my hands on.
A Fine Mess just reinforced that status. I love Siskind's writing style and AFM delivered just exactly what I like. Great humor, insight and perfect amount of sizzling. Just like always.

The storyline is sweet and quite realistic- at least most of the time. And while the romance is super cute and fluffy- and sorta what one expects, there are some heavier issues underlying this one, which Siskind tackled brilliantly and gave the book an interesting depth.

The characters of this one, had me at times exasberated. Because let's face it, Lily and I have not much in common. I would have never been in her situation. In fact I found it annoying in the first book, which made me worry about this book a wee bit, let me assure you I had no reason for it. I just can't relate to not changing your situation, just hanging in there because you wanna be..nice? And here comes Siskinds brilliant writing in- I did get why Lily did it.
In fact I loved her relationship with her ex at the end. The same goes for Lily secret, don't think that would ever happen to me.. but I completely understood her, I love how she tried to overcome her issues- simply put, while Lily has very little in common with me, I could identify with her, feel like I know her and most importantly I really like her.
Sawyer, annoying as he was at times- I mean what more did he want? Felt like hitting him with a sign that said you blind idiot a few times- he is also witty and totally cool. I liked him in My Perfect Mistake and now I simply adore him.
Their relationship goes from attraction to flirty friendship to insta-lust combustion to believable couple. There are moments I found a bit unrealistic (beach story thingy) but there are so many funny and swoony moments I just gobbled up. One of my favorite things is their design collaboration. I absolutely love the way they work together, support and inspire each other.
I love the support cast, Siskind managed to give me more insight into characters we met in the previous book.
So clearly I loved the character building. I think while the storyline is cute and all, the character building is what makes this a great read.

Now all I can do is wait for Siskind's next book, I guess. But let me tell you I CAN NOT get my hands fast enough on Raven's book. She was my favorite character in My Favorite Mistake and I just know it's going to be another good one.
Until then.. if you haven't yet...

Sawyer and Lily work together, but it's not your typical boss-employee situation. Lily is more like Sawyer's design muse and she's a talented designer in her own right. Sawyer has a lot of family baggage that makes him reluctant to settle down, but doesn't stop him from wanting and flirting with Lily. As long as she has a boyfriend, it's pretty harmless, right? Until Lily, who is honestly kind of a wimp, breaks up with her boyfriend and they have to deal with their very real, messy, and inconvenient feelings for each other.

Though I found their issues a little contrived, I still liked both characters and minus the whole *Spoiler Alert* flying to Bali thing, I found their romance to be pretty believable. Their problems were a little too easily resolved for my taste and the whole jumping into a relationship was a bit fast, but I liked them and their story. However, what really intrigues me are Lily's friends. This is the second book in the series and not only do I want to go back and read the first, I really want to read the third. I like angsty and complicated and Lily and Sawyer are just sweet. I think that will appeal to a lot of readers.

A Fine Mess is anything but a mess. It's a completely delightful story of 2 extremely endearing characters that I have fallen in love with.

This book made me so happy! Sawyer and Lily are so perfect together...flaws and all. They remind me of Lily and Randy from Pucked Over, one of my favorite couples ever. Their teasing and flirting, the care they have for each other, the emotions these 2 evoked in me...I adored everything about them and their story. Even though their friendship was so easy, giving and receiving love took a bit more work on both their parts, as they each had to come to term with some deep-seated issues...and at times it was downright difficult. But anything worth having is worth fighting for, and Sawyer and Lily are strong fighters!

You couldn't ask for more when it comes to a friends-to-lovers romance...seeing the love between Lily and Sawyer blossom was incredibly sweet and heartfelt, it hit me right in the feels.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Superhero wish: Memory Manipulation (ability to erase or enhance one's memory)...so I can go back and read this book again and again like the first time--each time getting better and better.

The characters in this book were well developed. Sawyer's immaturity was done so well with the corny jokes, dance moves and how he deals with the tough stuff. Lily's desire to be loved and cherished like the things she "rescues" from antique stores and thrift shops. Friends turned lovers trope is one of my favorites and this one is sweet and delightful.

One of the things I love about this author: her ability to write the male POV. Most authors write male POV and toss in a few swear words and think that's enough. She does a great job with the contrasting voices!

Two thumbs up! Highly recommend.

What can I say every girl needs a Sawyer in her life. I'm a super hero nerd myself so I totally fell for Sawyer. I really liked how lily was down to earth and we all have our secrets so I was definitely drawn to her in more ways than one. I did find myself laughing out loud a lot during this book. It brought me to tears a couple times too. If you're looking for your next book boyfriend I suggest reading this book, start to finish it was amazing. I hope you enjoy Sawyer and Lily as much as I did.

Salve Confine.

Quindi, buona lettura.
